We got a serial fish killer A marriage contract A girl who’s delusional and shows no accountability for her stupid actions A ball player whose hotheaded with a good heart A fool with a hand problem and thinks money is the solution A sister who is FOUL = a good time. This is a new to me author and I flew through this book because I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I’m looking forward to Landon’s story next.
I wanted to like "The Game Between Us" more than I actually did because on paper it had a lot of things I usually enjoy. I love a sports romance. I love a hidden baby trope. I even enjoy some mess when it is done well. But this one just did not come together for me the way I wanted it to.
The story follows Brianna, now going by Blaise, who reconnects with Devin years after their brief college encounter. By then, she is married to Garrett, working as a sports reporter, raising a daughter, and hiding a major secret that Devin absolutely should have known. That setup had potential, but the execution made Blaise really hard for me to deal with.
My biggest issue was her decision making. I could not get past how much of this book depended on her continuing to go along with a ridiculous situation. I understood that Garrett had power, money, and control over her career, but at a certain point it stopped feeling layered and started feeling foolish. The NDA, the cheating husband, the hidden child, the constant silence… it was just too much for me to believe she would keep letting it ride the way she did. Instead of feeling torn, she mostly felt frustrating.
That said, the book did make me laugh. Mila was easily the best part of the story for me and honestly the main reason Blaise stayed even a little redeemable in my eyes. Landon was another standout, and Devin’s relationship with both Landon and his mother gave him more heart than I expected at first. Those side dynamics carried a lot of the emotional weight for me.
I also thought the twist involving Garrett’s mistress was messy in a way that actually worked. Once it clicked, I had to give the author that. And while Devin did not fully stand out to me as a love interest the way I wanted him to, I did appreciate that there were glimpses of depth underneath his public persona.
Overall, this was a quick read with some funny moments and a few lovable side characters, but the romance felt rushed, the character development was thin, and Blaise’s choices wore me out. I finished it more annoyed than satisfied.
This was quite the surprise - I laughed so much. Mila, Twin and Landon definitely were great side characters. Baby Devon didn’t waist any time jumping into things with Blaise and my girl was the only analyst who didn’t sugar coat things regarding Devon. Yes, he was impulsive and had the bad boy persona, but he was also generous and kind - I loved the way he gave back and served his community! It’s all about actions 🥰Blaise should have left Garrett behind because she was clearly the star; I couldn’t stand him at all! Very entertaining story, lowkey wanted Garrett’s mama to give his $$ to Mila and Blaise you know for pain and suffering and stuff lol smh 🌝😂
No accountability on Blaise’s decisions. If it wasn’t for Mila, Juicy the fish, and Landon I’d give this a one lmaooo. RIP Juicy. Tyla was annoying. Denise was dumb. Blaise was dumb too. No real character development.
Good read. I enjoyed the banter. Hateeeee a secret baby trope, almost DNF when I figured out that was the direction it was going in. Mila's dialogue read a bit forced (yes I read the author's note). The reasoning for her going along with that contract was stupid to me and even worse to date dude yet not tell him about his child. Even her expectation of him to come after her, after ONE random encounter was wild. But, overall it was a quick, decent read.
Now we all know Latoya Nicole is gonna give us a story that makes you laugh, stress, and wanna throw your Kindle all at the same time and this one is no different.
We start with Blaise, a quiet, studious girl that the “cool crowd” never paid any attention to. But the night before graduation, she decides to step outside her comfort zone and go to a party… and baby, that one decision? Changed EVERYTHING.
Because that was the night Devin Mercer finally noticed her.
Fast forward a few years, and Blaise has made a life decision that looks good on paper great for her career but maybe not so great for her heart. As things start to unravel, she begins to realize she might’ve flown a little too close to the sun with the choices she made.
And then Devin re-enters her life.
Now Devin? He’s made a name for himself in the NBA talented, highly rated, but known as the league’s “bad boy.” His on-court antics keep him in the spotlight, and people can’t seem to figure out how he’s still that guy despite all the controversy.
But when Blaise gets a chance to see beyond the game… beyond the headlines… she starts to understand who Devin really is. And that only makes it harder and harder to stay away from him.
I’m not even gonna say too much more because this is one you really need to experience for yourself. Just know… once you get into these pages, you’re gonna have a TIME 😌📚🔥
Ngl this book stressed me out lol. This was so messy. The way I was side eyeing the fmc. I don’t promote domestic but I would’ve had to yoke her up. Loved Mila. She was too much lol. I loved her addition to the story. If you’re looking for a messy good time with laughs and cursing out the characters, this is for you.
This book has a dialog that needs to be studied. The banter is unmatched, and Latoya knows her way around a story. If you don't fall out laughing with tears, you need to check your funny meter
Mila, Landon & Twin got me out of my slump by themselves. I need more. I’m ready for Landon even though I wish it was longer. Genetics are hilarious because Mila is Twin!!!
I like how the author bring the story altogether and keep u entertained. Devin was a different breed when he loved he loved hard and Brianna was the only woman he loved. His kids acted just like him. Mila and his mama was hilarious.
Latoya going to keep us laughing, I enjoyed this story so much. I’m so happy Devin & Blaise got there happily ever after reconnecting with each other. This will definitely draw you in from the first page read it if you like sports romance & a good laugh.
well. One thing for sure and two things for certain Latoya Nicole is going to have you laughing out loud from start to finish! When I say every single page was a kee-kee, I mean it delivered nonstop humor with heart. And let’s talk about little Mila… baby, she stole the entire show! Her honesty and unapologetic openness brought such a refreshing, feel-good energy you couldn’t help but smile every time she showed up.
But what truly grounded this story was the beautiful bond between Devin and Landon. Their connection gave us real, tender father-son moments that felt genuine, heartfelt, and full of love. I also really loved the dynamic between Devin and Braise it added another layer to his character that made him even more relatable and well-rounded.
And let’s not overlook Devin’s relationship with his mom. That connection was special in its own way and showed just how much love and foundation shaped the man he became. Speaking of Devin, the things he did to uplift and support the less fortunate were truly beautiful moments. It wasn’t just about who he loved it was about how he showed up for others, and that spoke volumes.
This story perfectly balances laughter, love, and purpose, making it one that lingers with you long after the last page.
As always, Latoya Nicole doesn't disappoint. This book had me crying laughing at Mila and her antics as well as wanting to square up with Garrett. I absolutely loved Devin with his mean self. He didn't mince words and didn't play about his loved ones. The relationship he had with Landon was beautiful. I loved the banter between them. They stayed roasting each other.
Brianna AKA Blaise was nothing to play with. She was weak in the knees for Devin, but everyone else could get the business. The way she handled Garrett and Shaq once she put 2 and 2 together had me tickled. They both got exactly what they deserved. Garrett was the worst, and I wish he ending was slower. I'm excited for Landon's book.
This book really surprised me in the best way. The story overall was great….
But……….
The little girl had me in tears but from laughter. Her one-liners completely took me out. What made it even funnier was the way the author wrote her character; you can just picture her delivering these lines with a completely straight face, which made every moment hit even harder.
This was my first time reading anything by this author, and I was genuinely impressed. The writing felt natural and engaging, and the humor was perfectly timed. The characters, especially the little Mila, who was unforgettable and brought so much personality to the story.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this read and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves humor mixed with strong character moments. I’ll definitely be checking out more from this author.
Thank you Latoya. This story is filled with laughter and love but not every moment is a laughing matter. Betrayal, abuse, secrets and lies cost some their lives and others precious moments. Devin is no filter ever. OG, Mila and Landon are absolutely hilarious. Now when you talk about handling business, Brianna reminds me of me and probably is Latoya too with those hands for anybody and about our kids. I loved how he loved her and you couldn’t help but love on Mila’s lil pretty self. But please be mindful of what animals you get her. Poor Juicey.!C’mon Landon because he’s older and I know they’re all with the shenanigans and laughter. Loved this totally!
Sooo i thought I would take some time to read this but as I always say I love this author. She is funny, she talks about real life and most things are relatable. Now I wanted to knock out Garrett from the beginning but you know Brianna knew what she signed up for. Now who needs enemies when you have a Shaq but the way Brianna beat her up and locked her in that closet had me on the floor. That fish funeral was Hella funny but baby Mila was super serious. You know I liked how Devin always saw her even when they were college. Now they both had their issues but definitely loved their relationship. I definitely can't wait to read about Landon!!
This book was so freaking good from beginning to end I picked it up and didn’t put it down until it was the end. I laughed so hard because Landon and Twin was hysterically funny and I loved that right along with Ms. Mila. I’m so glad that Brianna got her happily ever after with Devin because that sister of her and the other dude was so freaking trash and got their just deserts. I am definitely excited for what’s next and to catch up with the entire family
I haven’t read a LaToya Nicole book in a while, but as expected, I got my laugh on. Mila and Devin’s mom were the actual stars of this book and they kept the book interesting at all times. Every time that Mila said something, I thought about the things that she said things that her daughter did. Brianna was wrong for keeping Mila from Devin, but I could understand her reasoning. The book was well written, flowed well and quite entertaining. I can’t wait to read Landon’s book.
Latoya is one of my absolute favorite authors on Earth. She know how to hide a baby and keep it messy but also the humor is top tier and the romance be romancing! She doesn’t miss for me and this book was no exception. Devin and Brianna took me through it! Mila was absolutely perfect and Landon - just tug on my heart strings, ok? This was a perfect read for a cozy night at home!
Ooo I loved this and I can’t wait to read Landon’s story. Devin did not play with anyone but he has a soft spot for people he loves. I loved how he looked out for Landon and the relationship he had with his mom. This gave me a the feels. It felt good to read about a dude that didn’t really come with trauma. I do wonder what happens with Shaq and if we gon read more of Tyla.
Once you pick up a Latoya Nicole book you can't put it down!!! Oh how i love her work!!!! I thought I would literally have a stroke when that baby asked what a prostitute was!!! Then she around here killing fishes and having funerals!!! Latoya always makes it humorous and realistic!!! If her daughter is like Mila I would love to be around her!!! Exceptionally well done!!!! Waiting on. Landon's story!!!
Latoya I like you girl! This book was funny! Brianna pissed me off how she did Devin about his child. Did I expect the sister to be the other woman nooooo. That threw me all the way off. If my sister would have slept with my husband I would have dragged her too. My favorite part was when Brianna beat her husband up and her sister up the same day.
I felt bad knowing Brianna was given this other persona by Garret. She took his mess to keep her job and have the support for Mila. Mila is the cutest little girl. She had me laughing out loud literally. I knew Shaq was the one. She was straight 🗑️! Wonder what happened with her and her baby. Twin and Landon kept me laughing. I love the bond Devin had with Landon. They were each other’s peace. Can’t wait for his story. Great read!
First book to read from this author - trust me when I say I’m reading more of her books! This book was messy I cringed and was livid buttttttt this is a comedy cuz I laughed tooo much. Love the bond that Brianna and Landon formed. Warmed my heart that Landon was also adopted by them. Looking forward to read about Landon’s story.
I was rooting for the FMC & MMC. When she finally raised up, I cheered. It was an honor to be named a character in this book. I had some great one liners. The funeral scene was hysterical. I was glad to see the people that annoyed me get their just due. Looking forward to the next book.
This urban sports romance gave you everything you didn't know you needed. A changed identity, secrets that will knock you off you square, expected and unexpected drama, and a howlin' good time! This was my first read from her, but it certainly will not be the last. I am a fan for sure.
I started reading this book one hour before bedtime and next thing I know it’s 3 AM and I’m finishing up the book. I kept telling myself one more chapter. Listen this book was a great read and I loved all the plot twists. I loved how Briana wasn’t an insecure pushover and didn’t allow nobody to play in her face! I highly recommend reading this book.
