Seventeen-year-old Wystan works in a forge, where his untrained magical fire-wielding abilities are easier to hide. Because in Orriven, magic isn’t a gift. It’s a death sentence. Yet when Wystan’s abilities are exposed by the army’s captain, the captain decides to graciously spare him. Because obedience is more useful than death. The captain sends Wystan on a quest to find a particular stone—one that can turn the tide of hunting magic wielders in his favor. Only someone born from flame can awaken the power trapped in the sacred relic. Caught between execution and annihilation, he must decide to let the fire burn him…or to let it burn the world.
Fantasy done right! Such a riveting and engaging YA fantasy read with memorable characters, imaginative world-building, and plenty of adventure! A fun, fast-paced read for fantasy fans. Definitely recommend!!
I enjoy the world being created here. Bas provided levity and humor to an otherwise serious book. I hate what the author did to Liora and I despise Vana.
