Glenn Cooper's The Bookbinder's Agreement is a tightly paced historical crime-thriller set in late 19th-century London. Combining a threat to the British royal lineage, missing documents, and a ticking-clock investigation, it offers a thoroughly engaging and suspenseful read.

The narrative never really drags. Cooper uses the pressure of an impending ransom and the vulnerability of the monarchy to maintain an excellent, suspenseful momentum.

The late Victorian era is vividly brought to life. Cooper does a fantastic job of integrating the social and political tension of the time into the motivation for the crimes.

The idea of hidden lineages and lost documentation is a classic and Cooper executes it in a way that keeps you guessing about who will outsmart whom.

The Bookbinder's Agreement is a thoroughly enjoyable detective thriller that will easily satisfy fans of historical fiction and classic whodunits. With its compelling cast, London setting, and high-stakes cat-and-mouse game, it's a solid debut in Cooper's new series.

Congratulations Glenn ! Looking forward to your next book.

I just finished reading The Bookbinder's Agreement by Glenn Cooper and I am still reeling from the experience. I absolute devoured this page-turner, reading it in just 3 days because I simply could not put it down.

Set in the atmospheric backdrop of late Victorian London, the premise revolves around an alternate line of ascension to the British throne, threatening the entire monarchy. The Bookbinder Andrews is unwillingly drawn into the criminals dealings with a status seeking ex-arms dealer, the plot reaching its peak and surprising readers with what’s next (don’t want to spoil it). Cooper handles the historical details flawlessly, drawing you deep into a world of ransom, secret documentation, and detective drama. Truly loveable characters, led by the investigative pairing of Renwick and Mason. For fans of detective fiction, their dynamic feels instantly nostalgic yet entirely fresh. They mirror the best traits of classic inspector duos: Like Inspector Morse and Sergeant Lewis, they perfectly contrast intellectual, brooding mystery-solving with a grounded, practical perspective. The father-son deep bond between Renwick and Mason drive the emotional heart of this thriller. If you love fast-paced historical mysteries with brilliant character dynamics, buy this book immediately. It is an absolute triumph!
