One year ago, David Church kissed a beautiful, brilliant woman on an airfield in Iraq—and hasn't stopped thinking about her ever since. Now, the military veteran gets a chance to rekindle that fire when he sees his lost love again—looking sexier than ever—at an international conference in Athens. David yearns to take her in his arms, to hold her close and never let go. But when the bullets begin to fly, it's not just his heart on the line. It's his life.
When Molly Solent agreed to deliver intelligence for the U.S. government, she didn't realize she'd be caught in the crossfire of a surprise ambush—and underneath the hard-muscled body of David Church. Shielding her from harm and swearing to protect her, the elite bodyguard reignites a searing passion that Molly can't resist. But with unforeseen danger around every corner—and unquenchable desire in every embrace—falling in love could be the greatest risk of all...
Emmy Curtis is a Romance author. An ex-pat Brit, she quells her homesickness with Cadbury Flakes and Fray Bentos pies. She's lived in London, Paris and New York, and has settled for the time being, in Tokyo. When not writing, Emmy loves to travel with her military husband and take long walks with their dogs. All things considered, her life is chock full of hoot, just a little bit of nanny. And if you get that reference...well, she already considers you kin.
Well, not really a stage, though David and Molly certainly aren’t shy when they open the curtains to invite the world in... But it’s not all passionate kisses and hot sex, though there is plenty of that. This isn’t the first time David and Molly have met with bullets firing around them but this time the enemy is not as obvious and even more deadly.
Set in the beautiful backdrop of Athens, Greece, an archaeologist and a bodyguard seem unlikely participants in starting a global war but that’s what they find themselves as they barely escape a G20 party with their lives. Keeping low, they try to piece the puzzle together using their combined strength and intelligence to figure out all the clues while staying one step ahead of the bad guys.
“Basically, it’s a bad karma blowback of epic proportions.”
This is the first book in the series I’ve read but even knowing this wasn’t the very beginning of their relationship, the book read and felt like a complete story. And what a story! From the opening pages to the very last there was non-stop action, non-stop sex and bullets and emotions flying every which way. David was still recovering from his military service and the bender that followed as he was still picking up the pieces of his career and his life.
“She had haunted his days and nights with her eyes that were full of promise, full of a future that he couldn’t see.”
Molly had suffered a setback in her professional life that she was also digging herself out of and seeing David again reminded her of all the time she’d wasted dreaming and yearning for him in the last year.
“They were in trouble unless something happened, but all she could think about was David and his talented tongue, dick, and fingers.
This story read so fast the words seemed to have a mind of their own as they raced along the pages at a fever pitch. Just when you thought you could take a breath the story took another unexpected turn. This reminded me of the best of James Bond intrigue and the warmth and humor of True Lies as these spies were oh, so very human. Things fell very neatly together, perhaps a bit too neatly at times, but this was a roller coaster ride of espionage and love set in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. A jolly good time! ~ Diane, 4 stars
This fourth entry in the Alpha Ops series can be read as a standalone, but events in the third story, Pushing the Limit, led to David and Molly meeting and this one takes place a year after that. The details of how they met and why they weren’t together yet are explained well, so it’s easy to jump into this one if it’s your first time reading a book by this author.
Molly is in Athens for business, her reputation as a well-known and respected archeologist resulting in several planned speeches at some industry events. While there, she’s also been tasked with a little innocent spy duty on the side. It seems simple enough – pass on a verbal message to the Russian Antiquities minister at a fancy cocktail party. Only, as she’s about to do so, the bullets start flying! David, a retired military man (now an elite bodyguard) and the man she thought would contact her after the fallout in Iraq the previous year, is on site for other reasons and comes to Molly’s rescue. Suddenly Molly is thrust in the middle of international intrigue – The Russians and the Greeks want her, the upcoming G20 meeting is threatened, and David is determined to protect her and find out who’s behind what’s happening and why. In the middle of running for their lives, will they get the chance to act on the attraction between them?
I enjoyed this story. Molly comes across as a smart and educated woman though sometimes a bit naive. She makes friends easily (not always to her advantage) and took her assignment, to pass a message on to the Russian antiquities minister perhaps a bit too trustingly. When David comes to her rescue, she goes with him despite her hurt feelings that he never contacted her in the past year. To her credit, she doesn’t hold it against him. David comes across as a strong and determined man, one who is no longer relying on alcohol the way he did when he first met Molly, his PTSD issues from that time more firmly under control now. He still doesn’t think he is worthy of her, but it doesn’t stop him from being committed to protecting her. Though they were attracted to each other when they met, they never acted on this attraction for several reasons. Now that they’re in close quarters again, the sexual chemistry between them won’t be denied, and leads to several steamy scenes. Molly and David are definitely not shy, and once they’ve gotten that first bedroom encounter out of the way, there isn’t much stopping them from continuing an affair, even if they don’t quite trust each other enough yet to tell all their secrets.
I really liked the setting of this story and some of my favorite scenes involved David and Molly on the run through the streets of Athens. I would say this is more of an espionage thriller type story than a military suspense one, as it’s the whole international spy scene and those dratted Russians (!) that give the story the action and edge. The idea of Russian spies is (to me) a bit dated, but still made for a fun romp. Some parts were fairly predictable, and some things were a surprise right up until the end. Of course everything turns out okay and Molly and David get their happy ending. It was an entertaining story, and I’m looking forward to reading more of the series. 3.5 stars.

A damaged hero and an idealistic heroine get caught up in an espionage plot with far-reaching consequences in this exciting new installment of the Alpha Ops series! BLOWBACK is an exciting combination of danger, intrigue and sexy interludes with a bold, fearless heroine and a flawed hero looking to redeem himself.
I have enjoyed this series immensely and could not wait to get my hands on this book and honestly, because of how much time has passed since the previous book, I had to go back and re-read it to refresh my memory of Molly and David's meeting.
Archaeologist Molly Solent is in Athens, Greece for a professional event and accepts a request to deliver a message from a government official to a Russian colleague who would also be attending the event, a decision which leads to murder and sparks an international incident, threatening US-Russia relations and she finds help from a very unexpected source - the one man who has been on her mind for the last year.
David Church met Molly the previous year under very dangerous circumstances and hasn't forgotten her for one second, but he broke his promise to come look for her because he didn't think he could offer her anything more than a damaged and broken man. Seeing her in Athens is one highlight of his trip but when Molly narrowly escapes a bullet, David jumps in to get her to safety. Unfortunately, Molly has been named as a person of interest in a spy plot and is being hunted by both Russian intelligence and Greek law enforcement agencies and David is the only thing standing between her and an uncertain future and he is determined to protect her, even when she refuses to confide in him.
Their bid to stay alive takes them from the busy streets of Athens to revered national monuments and everything in between as they find themselves exploring the steamy, sizzling chemistry between them.
I really enjoyed both characters. Molly is gutsy and determined and does not give up on what she wants. One forehead kiss from David was all it took and she isn't going to give up on him now after having waited for a year. David is still ravaged by the losses in Afghanistan but for the first time in a long while, he has something to live for and it's amazing how he puts his military training to use, evading their pursuers. I love that Molly did not wait on David to do everything by himself, but was an equal participant in their escape from the authorities, even if she made a foolish choice that almost cost them dearly in her desire to protect David.
I've said it before and will again: Ms. Curtis's writing is so rich and detailed and sucks you into the action and intrigue alongside the characters, which is why she is on my auto-buy list and this series is a must read!

Yet another disappointment in this series that hasn't had a "hit" since the first novella.
Bland characters thinking with their reproductive organs instead of using their brains, a very flimsy excuse for a romance, mediocre suspense...The whole "story" was just one long sex scene (with changing setting) with a few action scenes and a little (bland) mystery thrown in.
Hole-y plot, slow pacing, uninteresting characters...A poor excuse of a story.
The 1st three books in this series were very good, which is why I am disappointed in this one. Hard to like Molly; for someone who was supposed to be really smart, she did some incredibly stupid things (pretending to be some kind of 'spy'?). The story has quite a convoluted plot, which I don't care about at all. Instead of getting immediately out of Greece, nooo, she has to stay to deliver a speech. So dumb. Skimming to get finish this book.
Liked the concept, good characters, surprise villain , happy ending. The love scenes were graphic, frequent and seemed to suit the character's personalities and desire for one another.
Molly Solent, an archaeologist, is getting ready for her trip to Athens where she will be serving as a guest speaker at a convention when she's contacted to deliver a message to a Russian colleague. She's not a spy and has never done this kind of thing before, but how hard can it be to pass a piece of paper to an acquaintance? Molly soon finds out that losing her luggage is not her biggest problem when shots start firing and she comes face to face with the man she hasn't stopped thinking about in the past year.
The events that took place a year ago, served as a wake-up call for David Church. Ever since, he's been trying to get his life back together, not once forgetting the woman he made a promise to and failed to keep. Although he only met her briefly, David can't seem to get Molly out of his mind. He regrets not fulfilling his promise and knows that he probably lost his chance with her, but he must focus on the mission at hand and leave his past behind if he wants to continue moving forward in his life. So of course, seeing Molly in Athens and having her in harm's way puts him off kilter. Now he must try to keep her safe while dealing with all the emotions he has kept contained for the past year.
I admit, I didn't remember much of David or Molly from the previous book so I had to go back and re-read to refresh my memory and quite frankly I can't believe how I managed to forget those two. It was apparent there was something there for me to latch on, but I guess my focus was elsewhere in the story. However, as soon as I started Blowback I was all in.
Danger. Sexual tension. Intrigue. Uncertainty. Emmy Curtis certainly has a knack for bringing the right mixture of elements to capture a reader's attention. These elements and more were present and brought to the page to impact the reader and entice them to keep on reading. I was curious to see what the hell was going to happen and how David and Molly were going to get out of the mess alive so they could finally get the chance to be together.
I loved David. He was strong and protective and yet still had a vulnerable air to him because of his past. He kept his emotions tightly reined in, so it was a treat to see how much Molly's presence affected him. I admired his determination to keep her safe, but wanted to throttle him so hard when his insecurities made him keep his distance from her.
I truly didn't think much of Molly initially, but as the story progressed I admired the way she stepped up to the plate. I enjoyed watching her confidence grow and admired her determination to go after David once and for all--regardless of what would or wouldn't happen in the future. In end, I thought she complemented David very well.
Although I re-read Pushing the Limit before starting, Blowback can be read as a stand alone. The author does a great job in setting up David and Molly's story so the reader won't have a problem following along.

I wish I had had the chance to read the first books of the series; maybe then I would have had a better understanding of the backgrounds of the characters. Not only of David and Molly, but of the previous main characters as well; I would have had the opportunity to meet them, see their previous work (by this fourth novel, David is a military veteran, but when he first met Molly, that wasn’t the case) and even find out their previous relationships. Albeit all that, I have to quite honest: this is the first time I had read a novel written by Emmy Curtis, and she knows how to write an excellent military novel! From the little written on her amazon biography, where it states that her husband is military, it shows she has taken the time to research and double check her information! Now on with the story itself! It was hot. And I do mean hot! The chemistry between David and Molly was, what I could only describe as combustible, tangible and incredibly hot for lack of a better word. The action was nonstop and an edge of your seat thriller; the perfect novel for any reader wanting to add something new to their library. . **Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. Read and reviewed by Kathleen for Alpha Book Club**
Molly is about to leave for a speaking engagement in Athens when she is asked to pass a secret message to someone who will be at the same conference. How hard can it be, she gets to attend a cocktail party and do something for her country at the same time. That was until she heard the gunshot, and then she was on the floor, David shielding her with is body. David, the man she has not seen in a year and has dreamed about since he kissed her forehead in the airport when he said goodbye.
I think I held my breath most of this book.
I didn't remember much of David and Molly from the previous book, however it didn't take long for me to realize Molly has been in David's mind and heart since he kissed her forehead in the airport. David is the beating himself up for his past mistakes type of hero. In his mind he will never be worthy of Molly. They never shared more than that forehead kiss but Molly has thought of and waited for David every day since. Most will think Molly would be a shy reserved character. She may have a career as an archeologist and spends her time looking at things from the past, but Molly is all about taking charge of her future; and she sees David as a part of it.
This couple is HOT - as in you might need someone close by or a cold shower HOT. Their connection is more than physical. Some of their dialog just melted my heart too.
Blowback is a great installment in the Alpha Ops series. While it could be read as a standalone I think readers who are familiar with the series will enjoy the slight glimpses we get of previous characters. You might also notice an update on a past couple that will make you smile.
The only bad part - I have MONTHS to wait until the next installment.
I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest review.
As an avid reader and one who loves Emmy Curtis’s books, I do recommend her latest; BLOWBACK. From the first chapter it is filled with action, snipers, conspiracy, spies, and David and Molly on the run.
The main characters are David Church and Molly Solent who we met in Book 3 PUSHING THE LIMIT. Molly is an archaeologist and she met David 1 year ago in Iraq. He kissed her on the tarmac and both David and Molly have thought of each every since.
But, David said he would look her up and never did. Suddenly they meet again at a cocktail party in Athens where she is a guest speaker. Molly had agreed to pass a message to a Russian colleague for the CIA. As she is attempts to pass the message to him, he is taken out by a sniper. David is a body guard for one of the high level attendees and immediately took action to protect Molly and get her out of harm’s way.
As David and Molly try and stay one step ahead of the Russians and the Greek police, they try and figure out what is going on and how can they get out of Athens and back to America. The “pull” that they seem to have will complicate things so they try and keep their focus on staying alive, until it seems impossible avoid the sizzle that burns between them. David knows that he is not right for her. He has to get his life back together and focus on his recovery. But, he decides that he will take one night with Molly if that is all he can get. I highly recommend this book… Don’t miss it.
Issues: The previous 3 books had just the right amount of passion and sex scenes, this book may have gone overboard. I thought that maybe a few less scenes and a little more plot would have made this a 5 star book. You will enjoy this one; it’s just my opinion that a couple less sex scenes would improve the book.
If you enjoy fast paced thrillers, with special agents, an innocent heroine implicated in murder and espionage, a hero fighting his own demons and romance, this is the book for you!
Doctor Molly Solent has made something of a name for herself after accidentally helping reveal the private archaeological company she was working for we actually stealing artefacts! She's been asked to talk about this at the G20 Summit in Athens. She's also been asked by Brandon Peterson, to pass an envelope to Professor Alexandre Doubrov whilst she's there - being told this is important for the security of the US. On the flight to this venue she meets television presenter Victoria Ruskin who is attending the summit to investigate fracking. At the cocktail party where she's planning to give the Russian Professor the envelope she re-encounters David Church and when the Professor is shot and killed whilst she is talking to him, David comes to protect and rescue her. That's the start of a race to save Molly as Russian and Greek intelligence both try to arrest or capture her, suspecting her of being involved directly in the murder.
The story has a superb plot line, fast paced action, double dealers and not everyone is who they say they are! To quote the story, "Basically, it's a bad karma blowback of epic proportions ".... so if you enjoy spy stories, with mysteries, suspense, sex and thrills, you'll probably really enjoy this story.
Thanks to the Author, publisher and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is book # 4, in the Alpha Ops series. Like I have said before, this is a standalone novel. I always recommend reading any series in order as the author intends, for reader understanding and enjoyment. This book can be read alone, but it is so much better in order.
David and Molly met a year prior, and see each other at a cocktail party at a conference she is supposed to speak at. Tragedy strikes, and they are on the run together. David and Molly both wish they could have more time together.
Suspense! Heat! Passion that is enough to ignite even the reader... yes it is in there!
Molly always knew she would not get that much time with David. She takes any time he can give her. Knowing their time is running out, and feeling guilty she has sucked him into her international mess.
David is grateful for every minute he has with Molly. He is sad she cannot trust him like she should to keep them safe. He knows he will keep her safe, or die trying. Which he just might.
They both have a magnetic pull to one another that cannot be ignored. The sexual tension is incredible! The story is fast paced and exciting! I am rooting for them from the beginning and screaming at them as the book progresses. Definitely a keeper for your bookshelf! A real asset to the series. I cannot wait for the next book!
***This ARC copy was given by Netgalley.com and its publisher for an honest review only.
How on earth have I managed to miss this awesome series?!?!? As usual I enter the series after the initial few books but it in no way detracted from a well developed story in an established world.
David Church met Molly Solent just about a year ago in war ravaged Iraq. She had managed to get caught up in an antiquities for sale scam and he managed to get her out of it. He last saw her when he was a shadow of himself, nursing injuries and facing a booze filled, self hating future. She deserved way better then him.
Molly still thinks about David often but now she has been asked by her government to pass a message to a Russian dignitary she vaguely knows. David is on bodyguard duty at the same event and leaves his post when the proverbial &*%^ hits the fan and Molly is caught up in a bullet laden incident!!
But Molly soon realises that she is bringing death and destruction back to David's door and when she tried to save him from her own catastrophic choices, she just gets them in deeper!!!
I loved this!! It was sharp, snappy dialogued, emotive when need be and dealt with PTSD in all its forms with a loving hand. Well developed character help this fast paced read fly by and I read it in one sitting, I just could not put it down!!!
David and Molly met a year ago. He said he'd come back for her.....
Molly is an archaeologist and is in Greece to give a speech and is asked to pass a note to a Dr. at the same event. She has two envelopes in her pocket and is awaiting instructions as to which note she'll pass to him. She has no idea what either note says. She drops the note and BAM...gunshots ring out!!
David works for an security company and is in Greece, just like Molly. He thinks he sees her at this cocktail party but, doesn't believe for one minute it's her. Who knew that the simple kiss on the forehead that he gave her would have him missing her for a year! Then gunshots ring out and he protects her with his own body.
David and Molly go through so much trying to get out of Greece and the people that they think are their friends show their true colors.
This was an action packed book and the sex scenes were off the chart! However, I had a hard time understanding what exactly was going on until about middle of the book.
This was a hard book to get into, despite its relatively short length. It was all too soon before it felt as though like a chunk of the backstory had been clipped away despite some context being provided in both the H/hr's internal ruminations. The only real thing I got after trying to piece things together was that both have been pining away for each other for a year - the hero has loads of issues of his own - and that there's some international gunpowder plot cooking in the meantime. Thrown straight into the action (and the fast sex), I felt like I was always trying to play catch up. It did get better as I got along, but by then, half the book had already passed in a muddled blur for me. This might be called a standalone, but reading those previous books (the plots of which I've already forgotten) would definitely go a long way to plug those holes there.
Blowback is book #4 in the Alpha Ops series by Emmy Curtis. Although part of a series, Blowback can be read as a stand-alone....but I recommend reading the entire series.
David has been thinking about Molly since he kissed her 1 year ago, he cannot get that kiss and Molly off of his mind. He has been through a lot in that one year and now that his life has turned around he has the chance to "run into her" while working in Greece. Molly has settled down into a quiet life since her last meeting with David, but a simple request from an Intelligence operator and a chance meeting with the guy who knows how to really kiss a girl, puts her life in a tailspin. Intrigue, covert ops, a super sexy story with lots of twists & turns!
If you enjoy reading fast-paced, edge of your seat, super sexy stories...then you need to check out Blowback and the entire Alpha Ops series.
Blowback is the latest book in the incredible Alpha Ops series. Full of suspense, packed with action, and containing more a little steam, this book kept me flipping pages from the very beginning straight through the end. I loved that David was not the perfect hero - the chinks in his armor made him more realistic to me. I enjoyed Molly but often wanted to shake her for the choices that she was making and the innocence that she should have known better for. I do wish that I had read the other books in the series (will be rectifying that immediately), as some of the nuisances of the story were lost on me. I do recommend this book for anyone that enjoys military romance or suspense, but also recommend that you read the first books in the series first.
Heat: 4 POV: 3rd Molly is an archeologist and David is a private security guy. They met a year ago but haven't spoken since. The meet again at a cocktail party where the Russian Minister of Antiquities is murdered (is that even a real job?) Sparks fly instantly again and between dodging Russian thugs trying to shake them down info info things get real hot and heavy. I liked the suspense in the book but the sex thrown in just felt off. There was no build up-they just started going at each other in the middle of all this drama and it was weird. However, the book is fast paced and full of spy drama so if you enjoy that, you will like this book! If you liked... Kaylea Cross books, Maya Banks books
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway and this is my review of Blowback. This is the love story of David and Molly who meet again in Greece. They had originally met briefly one year earlier in Iraq. David is a military veteran and Molly is an antiquities archaeologist who may be involved in a covert operation. She is almost assassinated with the Russian Dr. Doubrov at a convention. Molly was seen handing him something right before he was shot. Thankfully, David was working security and was able to get her out of the room. So what is Molly really up to? Will David and her have a chance to fall in love this time around?
This book is so good and I now want to read the books I missed in this series! It has as much action as a movie and at times I was on the edge of my seat not knowing what was coming next! David is beyond a dream and Molly is incredible. Their first meeting had them flirting with each other but their next meeting had them thrown back together in an incredible fashion. The characters are so well put together and the story flows throughout. I loved how they act with each other and their chemistry is off the charts! You need to read this to see just what they do with their second chance because you will definitely not regret it!!
If you like James Bond your going to love this book. It's the fourth one in the series but you can read it as a standalone. Molly is a intelligent archeologist that was just helping a friend. David was a Sergeant. A great love story about two people that hoped to get back together. The story had suspense that made me want to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. The book also had scorching hot sex scenes. A must read. I will definitely will be reading more by this author. Review on behalf of Once Upon An Alpha.
Blowback continued the story with Molly and David who met during the third installment of this series. I enjoyed their story but I felt we could have learned a little more about David's struggles during the past year. He never really opened up to Molly about his doubts. Much of the emotional reveal was internal for both characters. I found the underlying conflict a little difficult to follow at times. It may have just been my fuzzy brain, but I couldn't keep the story straight.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley. This is an action packed story from page 1. David can't get the beautiful Molly out of his head. Molly has the same issues keeping David out of hers. Both drawn to each other but when fate throws them back together the chemistry they once flirted with comes raging back. This story has action and suspense. Surprise around every corner. As the danger they face escalates so does the call consuming passion between them.
