Martina Slajerova is a health and food blogger living in the United Kingdom. She holds a degree in economics and worked in auditing, but has always been passionate about nutrition and healthy living. Martina loves food, science, photography, and creating new recipes. She is a firm believer in low-carb living and regular exercise. As a science geek, she bases her views on valid research and has firsthand experience of what it means to be on a low-carb diet. Both are reflected on her blog, in her KetoDiet apps, and in this book.

The KetoDiet is an ongoing project she started with her partner in 2012 and includes 6 cookbooks, and the KetoDiet apps for the iPad and iPhone. When creating recipes, she doesn’t focus on just the carb content: you won’t find any processed foods, unhealthy vegetable oils, or artificial sweeteners in her recipes. This book and the KetoDiet apps are for people who follow a healthy low-carb lifestyle. Martina’s mission is to help you reach your goals, whether it’s your dream weight or simply eating healthy food.

The title says it all: The KetoDiet Cookbook: More Than 150 Delicious Low-Carb, High-Fat Recipes for Maximum Weight Loss and Improved Health — Grain-Free, Sugar-Free, Starch-Free ... Paleo, Primal, or Ketogenic Lifestyle. Whew! What a mouthful! Martina Šlajerová provides one-stop shopping for anyone looking to move to a low-carb, high-fat diet.

And I’m going to pay Šlajerová the highest compliment I can make: Readers won’t feel they’re eating “diet” food with any of these delicious recipes. She also provides an in-depth explanation of ketosis for newbies. But even long-time keto dieters will find plenty to love, what with so many recipes they won’t have seen anywhere else. Highly, highly recommended.

My husband and I started the Ketogenic Lifestyle this fall due to health concerns. At first I wasn't sure that we would find this cookbook very helpful, as several of the cheap kindle books we had picked up were lackluster in what we needed for recipes or just missing critical nutritional data.

So when I saw that I could view a digital copy of this from our library's Hoopla account we were all over it last month, and after trying the recipes for a week or so we picked up a hardcover copy. We have yet to find a recipe we don't like, the crispy bbq chicken drumsticks, scotch eggs, and keto porridge are recipes we go back to again and again. We are currently sick with the tummy flu and so no one is currently up for cooking but I know we will be trying out more of the recipes in this book soon.

I especially liked the eggnog and hot chocolate recipes and am looking forward to trying the lemon tarts.

I was really excited about trying recipes from this book, particular the bread recipes. Unfortunately they all contain Psyllium Husk Powder which has a very strong, distinctive (and apparently acquired) taste. Both the Ultimate Keto Bread and the 'Fluffy' Grain-Free Sunflower Bread went straight into the trash. I have made and enjoyed the Mayonnaise and Hollandaise Sauce recipes several times.

This is the best Keto LCHF cook book out there so far, IMO. Very tasty fare. I plan on trying every recipe I reasonably can. Some recipes may look a bit daunting, but once you get going...not bad at all. The keto bun recipe is the best out there. The most bread-like texture I've found, and the whole house smells like a roast has been in the crockpot all day after cooking them, strangely enough. And dare I say...no need to take any fiber capsules when you eat these :)

Martina is a genius chef, and not afraid to experiment...these recipes are the cream of that experimentation. Hope she can keep writing these books as it is definitely her cup of tea. Thank you so much for passing on your joys to us.

This book contains recipes from entrees to desserts. I think that if I was more of a foodie and less lazy then I would love some of these recipes. It is a great book but I won't use many of the recipes. I recommend it to people who really enjoy cooking. I may try some of the desserts though. I'm not too lazy for that!

- Well presented, lots of recipes in each category, for every taste (meat lovers or vegetarians).
- The reason I bought the book in the first place was for the cover because the meal in the pan looked delicious but I didn't even find that particular recipe in the book.
- Unfortunately I only found one recipe that appealed to me, even when I went through the book from cover to the very last page when I was hungry.
- The big issue in the recipes is that there are some ingredients that the jury is still out there discussing if they are healthy or not or that not everyone would have in their cupboards, such ghee and psyllium husk powder or ground sumac, erythritol, or whey powder.

Good but particularly cheap or easy recipes

I quite liked this book and it gave me some good ideas.

Unfortunately, many of the recipes are expensive eg frequently-used almond flour is £20 for 1kg. Flax meal (also frequently used)is similarly expensive and impossible to get in Tescos.

The pictures are generally attractive and all recipes are listed in US/imperial and decimal weights although some of the ingredients needed looking up - I didn't know the exotic-sounding "rutabaga" was merely a turnip!

My main gripe is there are often just too many ingredients!

Recipes for breads and desserts that would allow you to indulge yet stay low carb. I am fine without breads and sweet desserts, so this book is not for me. Would be interested in purchasing these as a prepared food - then would decide if the effort to make and secure the unique ingredients required are worth the time and trouble. After a year of low carb eating, if I really want an occasional piece of bread, pie or cake, I enjoy it. So far it has not caused me to abandon sensible eating altogether. Will be glad for the holidays to conclude though - so many tempting treats everywhere...

Lots of recipes!

I was looking for a low carb with added fat to help kick start my metabolism and lose weight. My nutritionist suggested I add far but not eliminate carbs.
There were some useful recipes in here and I am looking forward to making some of these, including Dijon mustard, the different keto breads and the main dishes.

Keto is not my mainstay diet, but I like some of the recipes and also use the book for keto reference. My "Date Finished" date is when I bought it - because if you like any of the recipes in a cookbook, you are constantly reading and learning as you cook.

Loved it!

Very informative and a wonderful resource for living a ketogenic lifestyle. Would recommend buying instead of borrowing from the library.

Doesn't have a lot of pictures, maybe one for every two-three recipes.
Does include nutritional information.
Most of the ingredients are staples, especially if you've been following a ketogenic diet for any length of time.
The recipes themselves are reliable and tasty - I've tried the Ultimate Keto Buns (also available on her blog), Spanish eggs, Chocolate and Orange Spiced Granola, Cinnamon Rolls and Grasshopper Brownies - all of them turned out well and I have made several of the recipes more than once and had the same result.
Many of the recipes are quite labour or time intensive and require a lot of ingredients.

Pros:
Thorough explanations
Nutritional information

Cons:
Recipes are too high in ingredient count and labour. I would have preferred more casseroles, bakes, curries, and basic meat dishes.

Although one never really is done reading a cookbook, I've done enough meals to review. All yummy all easy and ingredients mostly easy to find.

Even if I halved or even cut some of these recipes in thirds, I would have too many leftovers and my freezer would be overflowing. Boo.
