Shiloh

Rate this book
*** Standalone Novel***

Here’s what I know about Shiloh Jenson:
She is up to no good.
Every word out of her mouth is a lie.
And I'm madly in love with her.

The call of the sea had always been deafening for Mitchell Tate, which is why Kaimte, a small coastal town in West Africa, was the perfect place for him.
Brilliant surf conditions conjured up by the South Atlantic Ocean was the drawcard, and the laid-back lifestyle suited him to a tee.
But even paradise has a dark side.
When fellow Australian Shiloh Jenson arrives in town, his eyes are opened to a much seedier side of village life.
Shiloh has a hidden agenda, and whether he likes it or not, Mitchell is along for the ride.

Mitchell Tate had been missing the company of his best friend Charli since she had headed back to New York and Adam. He had lived the dream in the West African coastal town of Kaimte for seven years and still resisted his family’s pleas for him to return home to Tasmania and Piper’s Point. Mitchell’s love of surfing and the casual, relaxed lifestyle meant everything to him, and he believed he’d probably be there for a long time to come.

The day he arrived back at his little village shack after a surf to find fellow Aussie Shiloh Jenson had taken up residence was the day Mitchell’s life changed forever. Shiloh had been transferred to Kaimte with her job – not one she was looking forward to, but she was hopeful it wouldn’t last long. But that was before she met Mitchell. The sparks between the two of them were immediate – but Shiloh knew there was no future for anyone with her. Her job was important, but it was also dangerous. She would be walking a fine line and it was one she wasn’t sure she would end up on the right side of…

The threat of violence was terrifying. Shiloh knew the seedy, evil side of village life was starting to wrap itself around her, but could she stay on top of the danger? Would the job she had been sent to do be too much for her? And what would happen with Mitchell?

Shiloh by Aussie author G.J. Walker-Smith is the 6th in the Wishes series, but it can be read as a standalone novel. It’s different from the rest of the series in that there is much more suspense and mystery in this one, and has very little mention of Charli – it’s Mitchell’s story, and I hope there’ll be more along these lines. Another great read from this author – she doesn’t disappoint. Highly recommended.

GJ Walker-Smith is a favourite contemporary author of mine and her latest book Shiloh is a bit of a departure from the Wishes series style. It's characters are more mature, the plot has suspense, it's a tad hotter than her previous books but it keeps all the elements that I rely on in a Walker-Smith book. The humour is en pointe, the writing flows beautifully and the characters have depth. I didn't just like it, I loved it.

Remember Mitchell, Charli's surfing buddy? Yeah, he's still catching waves and living in one of the beach huts in Africa. He has matured though. Fate throws Shiloh and Mitchell, these two Aussies together in Kiamte but the nature of Shiloh's work means she's living a lie. As their friendship grows, the lies become walls.

This book has vivid description that paints the scenes perfectly, many 'snicker' moments, but the things I love most about GJ Walker-Smith's writing are the poignant, punch-packing lines. I drew in breath over quite a number of them, reveled in the 'feels' and whilst it made me laugh numerous times, it also gave me heart ache.

"At that point I was only certain of one thing: I was going to get my heart broken, and because I could see it coming, it was my fault, not hers."

This book filled a missing bit that I've wanted ever since Mitchell was introduced in Saving Wishes and more so in Second Hearts. He's a wonderful main character and he stands equally alongside these great men that GJ writes. I know that Mitchell is physically attractive but its his soul I'm magnetised to. Shiloh is a strong, interesting woman, courageous but with hidden vulnerabilities that make her so believable. I want to be 'kick-arse' like Shiloh one day too.

This book can be read as a stand alone. There are a small number of references to past wishes series characters, however, if you've not read them, it won't leave you mystified.

This was a superb read and it reminds me that good quality literature isn't everyday, this one sparkles like the diamonds discussed within it's pages.

I don't know where to begin with this review...
I have followed this author since i first downloaded The Wishes Series, AND she is one of three authors that i will pre-order for!!

This story, although it features some of the characters from The Wishes Series, branches out in a totally different direction. I didn't read the sample that was put up, because if i did, i would want more, and it definitely left me wanting more.

Its been so well written, it contains all those quirky lines, sentences that is so GJ Walker-Smith! (and you will get my meaning of this, because you would have read The Wishes Series)

This book will keep you guessing, it gives you the unexpected.. and boy did my jaw drop when it all came out.

I love Mitchell and Shiloh, they have great chemistry, perfectly matched...

What a great story GJ Walker-Smith, once again you nailed it!!

Over the time I've been reading her books, I've come to adore GJ Walker-Smith's characters and writing style. When we first met Mitchell as a side character in Saving Wishes I knew he was going to be one to steal a little place in my heart. I've waiting rather impatiently for more from him and it was so worth the wait.
Even though we met Mitchell in a previous book this book can be read as a standalone, I can't guarantee you won't be left wanting more of GJ Walker-Smith's heart touching writing and feel the need to go back and read the earlier books of the series.
Shiloh is a kick arse female and I love strong female characters. In fact I'm thinking my New Years resolution will be - to be kick arse like Shiloh.
This book had heaps of suspense and actually had me guessing right to the end, which is not easily done as I often find Who-Dun-It's predictable.
I don't know what GJ Walker-Smith plans to write next but I do know I'll be first in line to buy it.

A must for any Saving Wishes fans, and for any one who's not read any of GJ Walker-Smith's books yet "what are you doing with your life?" I think this is the first time I've cried because I've finished a book, and I did cry, I was not ready for Mitchell's story to end. A wonderful mix of romance, humour, intrigue and shock. Yes I was shocked! Didn't see the twist. Lovely story that also taught me a little about African beliefs and traditions, very quirky. Mitchell might well be my number one perfect book boyfriend, hell, who am I kidding, he is my number one perfect boyfriend, full stop! Loved that we got to catch up with Adam and Charlie, a lovely touch from GJ Walker-Smith. If I could I give a book 10 stars, I'd give them all to Shiloh. I loved falling in love with Mitchell

GJ Walker-Smith had done it again, another wonderful book that made me chuckle in parts and in others made my eyes fill.
This book is different to GJ's others - a deeper plot and more suspense but it still retains her unique style of writing.
Mitch is a gorgeous surfer/pub owner who comes home to his shack on the beach to find Shiloh asleep on a bean bag. She has been sent to work at the diamond mine, undercover, so their relationship begins on lies.

How long will I love this book? Until I can't <3

It's definitely my least favourite in the series so far. My main problems were Shiloh's character, who I liked but couldn't identify/connect with & the plot, which still ended up surprising me at some point!
I definitely enjoyed the read but the book didn't remotely reach the emotional level of the others in my opinion.

Shiloh by GJ Walker-Smith

I have been on tenterhooks waiting for this latest release from GJ Walker-Smith and Shiloh does not disappoint.

This book has EVERYTHING you could possibly want from a story, from characters, from an author.

Shiloh, a small-town girl, is looking for some excitement and adventure and she gets that in spades when she heads to Kaimte, Africa. Enter Mitchell. Laid-back publican who is just happy to surf and let life cruise along.

From the moment these two met, I could feel the chemistry between them and I couldn't stand to put the book down - I had to know what was happening! There were so many times that I couldn't hold my bursts of laughter in, and these moments were perfectly balanced by the elements of suspense. Add in the swoony moments that made me fall in love with Mitchell and this book is the complete package.

I read so many books a week and while I know I love an author's writing style and they're an automatic one-click for me, I do tend to forget the minute details until a new book comes out. Having read Shiloh, I am reminded of why I am in absolute awe of the beautiful words and artistry that make me fall in love with Walker-Smith's works.

While Shiloh is Book 6 of the Wishes series, it can be read as a standalone. However, it truly is a beautiful series that you should consider reading. Unequivocally recommend this book and the whole Wishes series.

What can I say but, Bloody Fantastic!

GJ Walker-Smith has a way with words, that is for sure. There is no better way to end the year out with reading one of her books. I am never, ever disappointed which is why she is my one click go to.

We have a boy from Tassie, and a girl from WA who meet in Africa. Mitchell Tate is a character we have met before and love, but Shiloh Brannan is new to The Wishes Series. She is one bad arse chick! And she has to be for her job as well as catching Mitchell's heart and soul. Mitch has been in Kaimte for seven years now, earning a living running the local pub - or bar - or shed! It is all so laid back for Mitch. Shiloh is on an assignment to work at the nearby diamond mine, and can't reveal her cover to anyone. Not the best start to a relationship but these two are destined to be together - no witch or bad juju is going to stop them.

This story is a standalone from The Wishes Series that brings it all full circle. I have read in discussion groups that this is different to GJ's other books. I am not too sure about that. For me, it is still perfectly written, it had me on the edge of my seat, staying up late not wanting to put it down. I was laughing, giggling and at times had a few tears with the goings on. So, it is classic GJ at her best!

Accordingly my recommendation, you'd be a fool not to read this book but a bigger fool if you don't read the entire Wishes Series which is just brilliant.

There are many levels of writing and in my opinion G.J. Walker-Smith's is extraordinary! I don't know how she does it but it is addictive and sets the bar in my mind for other books.

This is the 6th book in the Wishes Series but could be read as a standalone; although I would highly recommend reading the entire series.

Mitchell you meet briefly in the first book, Saving Wishes and then several more times throughout the series. I wanted more Mitchell and was extremely excited to hear that G.J. was giving him his own story.

Mitchell helped Charli through some difficult times and was a great friend to her during times she needed to escape. She returned to New York and Adam but Mitchell stayed in Kaimte living his life on the beach in his shack. He has been there about 7 years when he unexpectedly meets Shiloh.

Shiloh, a fellow Australian, arrives in Kaimte with a mission that didn't include Mitchell. But fate and magic have a way of intervening.
It wouldn't be a Walker-Smith book without a bit of magic; and I don't mean the hocus pocus kind, I mean the universe kind.

Shiloh is a bit different than the other Wishes books but is brilliant nonetheless. When you read any of her books you feel like you know the characters as real people and are invested in their story. All of Walker-Smith's male characters are all wonderful and handsome but each have their own flaw. Be it arrogance, self-centered or naive. Her leading female characters are strong and witty.

I don't know what the difference is because I am no author, but there is something about G.J.'s books that reach inside me and take hold. The plot timelines are realistic and never rushed. I am a sucker for the Australian accent and their terminology has given me a giggle more than once.

If your looking for suspense, angst, romance, a laugh and brilliant writing this is the book for you.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

Big thanks to G.J. for an ARC copy for review.

I have been eagerly awaiting Mitchell Tate's story ever since G.J. had announced he was getting his own book. Like always G.J. Walker-Smith has struck literary gold once again. Her storytelling is positively fabulous and this book proves to be another wonderful addition to the enchanting Wishes Series. It just makes me so happy!

despicable me photo: Super excited! tumblr_m70ge6Kgbf1rqi3bx.gif

I have enjoyed Mitchell throughout the series. He is such a great guy. Still good looking, charming and laid back, but in Shiloh the reader sees so much more to his character. He is protective, loyal, honest and has the greatest heart.

"It's here, Shiloh," he assured me, breathing the words against my shoulder. "Every part of me is here." ~ Mitchell and Shiloh

Seriously, any girl would be lucky to have him. And as it turns out Shiloh Jenson is just that girl. She is strong willed, independent, vibrant girl and the perfect match for Mitchell. I loved watching this couple slowly fall in love. Of course not everything is smooth sailing, especially when it comes to secrets and lies. There were times when I wasn't sure how it would work out, but with a little guidance from Charli, a visit to Crazy Edna and the magic of the universe my fears were put aside. I should know better than to worry.

"Because Shiloh told me," I replied, bewildered. "As far as I know, Mrs. Wilson wasn't there at the time.
Charli gripped me arm just as hard as she'd slapped me. "I told you," she whispered, "It's magic." ~ Mitchell and Charli

Just like with Charli and Adam, fate really does work it's mysterious ways and everything comes full circle. I couldn't have asked for a better ending for Mitchell and Shiloh. Thank you again G.J. for creating this amazing little world that I will always come back to.

Another amazing read! There is just something about GJ Walker Smith and her ability to bring a little magic to each book. I am in awe of this series and am so happy I got to see Mitchell's journey come full circle. I am hoping for another book since everyone is back in the Cove. Maybe Ryan and Benti can go for a visit?? Well, the writing didn't disappoint -it was every bit as wonderful as I've come to expect from Walker-Smith. Unfortunately, though, the story did.

I just didn't love Mitchell and Shiloh, didn't especially connect to either of them, and I couldn't convince myself to buy into their situation.

Good read, but a step or two below the other Wishes books in enjoyability.

Angels and a little magic what more does true love need?

Book six in the Wishes series is Mitchell and Shiloh's story. Mitchell is still in Africa living his surfer dream after Charli's departure.

More intrigue than other titles in this series with diamond smuggling and thugs but there's still a little magic.

I enjoy that each book in this series is linked and we get snapshots of previous characters.

A series for all ages whether you believe is true love and magic or not.

I don't know why I put off reading this for so long (at least 3 months after I bought it).
Oh wait, I do know. Because I knew that once I finished it I'd be devastated at having to wait for however long for the next book by G J Walker-Smith.
Wonderful book. Made a tear up a couple of times. Still wondering what happened to the Crown and Pav.

Poignant. Beautifully crafted. Soul shatteringly amazing.

Another beautiful book constructed from my most dearest author friend, GJ Walker-smith. This woman is a pure magician when it comes to writing books. Not only does she write fabulous books, as readers, she takes us on journeys, that We otherwise would never have ever imagined experiencing. But Walker-smith takes us there. Every time.

I'm usually pretty good at sensing the end of the plot, but not this time. Wham! Right out of left field, Walker-smith knocked it out of the park with her awesome use of aversion and suspense.

This isn't her normal genre, and it was lovely to see another side of her beautiful mind. Whatever task she sets her sights on, she conquers and let's the theme fly so high!

Walker-smith has a gift in chapter ending one liners that always make me want to jump into the next chapter head first. I can never get enough of her humour.

Shiloh was one tough bad-ass chick, and Mitchell stole my heart from the very first chapter. What a beautiful soul he has despite his nick name of being "dumb boy", he's nothing short of spectacular.

Walker-smith never disappoints. She's extremely talented, incredibly funny, bloody brilliant and i feel and see everything she puts on the page. I adore her and this book and I look forward to the next adventure she will take me on.

It's always a welcome addition to see what Charli and company are up to! GJ loves to give us little teasers of previous characters lives, and I'm just so grateful for their updates. Makes me feel like I'm still involved in their lives. Which is where my epic wishes series journey began.

Carry on Mrs. Walker-smith, I'm ready to set sail on your next adventure.

GJ Walker-Smith

5 magical stars

The anticipation for this book was rife, did it disappoint? Absolutely not. To say I enjoyed this book is an understatement. As with all of the other books in the Wishes Series I was sucked in from the first page. In true GJ Walker-Smith style this book is magic, and once again the author has described in vivid detail the scenery so beautifully it felt like I was there.
Mitchell Tate the carefree surfer always had me intrigued and and I'm so happy he got his own book. Shiloh is strong, fearless, sassy and quick witted, a perfect partnership.
This book is clever and engaging, and never in a million years would I have guessed the diamond thief, so sneaky. I love how the book made me reminisce about earlier stories in the series, and how my favourite book couple ever (Adam and Charli) made an appearance.

To sum it up Shiloh is another magnificent book from the very talented GJ Walker-Smith. I won't tire of The Wishes Series or the crazy and wonderful characters, and I truly hope there is more to come.

G. J. Walker-Smith never disappoints.
I loved reading this book.
I love the writing style. It just flowed really well.
There were so many witty and humorous moments. All the main characters meshed well together. I especially loved Mimi and her insight throughout the book. She was really hilarious to me and so strong.
I loved Shiloh with Mitchell. It was great to see them both fall in love. It was also great to see how mature Mitchell had become. You can't be a beach bum forever. It was nice to get a more in depth look at Mitchell and learn the qualities that make him who he is. He's protective, loving, caring and smart. There are so many more qualities that can describe him but I just can't think of them right now. Shiloh was definitely the girl that he needed. She was smart and she kept Mitchell on his toes. Their love just flowed well together, which made it a beautiful read.
My only wish was that I could get more. I loved hearing about Charli and the beautifuls. I just really wish there was more. I just can't get enough.

"And how long will you love me, Mitchell Tate?"
"Until I can't."

This was an amazing book! Again, I fell in love with the characters: Mitchell is a handsome guy with a great soul and Shiloh is a beautiful, strong and courageous woman. How their story began and ended put a huge smile on my face. This book was filled with suspense and kept me guessing until the end with the undercover plot line. I was waiting for that magic that is usually filled within the pages of the Wishes series and got it :)

It was very nice to see Mitchell back home in Pipers Cove, getting to know his family and of course, seeing Charli again. I hope that in the future, we will get to see all these characters together - maybe Ryan and Bente should pay a visit to Pipers Cove.

I've pre-ordered Shadow Lily and Stone Roses and can't wait to read them! August and January, please come soon.

I honestly never thought this would happen. Especially not with one of GJ Walker Smiths books. But it did. I didn't finish it. I couldn't. I tried, believe me, i tried. But no.

Sigh. My problem with this book was 1) while i loved her writing in the last few books, I was bored to tears with it this time because 2) I didn't care about the characters she was writing about or their story. At all. I could not find the motivation to read it and had to stop someplace closer towards the beginning.

I think GJ needs to stop. Her first five books were wonderful (I'm still in love with Charli and Adam) but now this series is just tired. She keeps popping out these extra books and nobody is really trying to read them.

Perhaps GJ should start a new series altogether, one that has nothing to do with Pipers Cove or anyone that came from there. Or at the very least, retire this, cause she grasping at straws to keep it going and it's sad.

This was an interesting addition to the series. It took a little dip into thriller territory. It was set in a dangerous world with murder and theft mixed in. Overall it was still just a romance, but the girl involved (Shiloh) was an undercover cop. It was fun to have a closer look at the character of Mitchell and I loved seeing Charli and Adam in the end. It is a presented as a standalone, but it definitely ties into the series. The history and other character lines don't matter in the broad scope of this story, but they do intersect and will perhaps help a little with understanding. Most of the characters are new, but others have backstory flushed out in other installments. I always prefer the Adam and Charli stories, but this was still enjoyable.

I love this author !!! I loved the wishes series and when I saw this I knew I had to get it. I was finding excuses that would give me the opportunity to Read. Love her style of writing and had me laughing out loud in certain parts. Her characters are witty and funny and so loveable. Nice to see them build on Mitchell's character. Shows that there really is more to him than being a beach bum.
Wish that the ending didn't happen so fast. Draw it out a bit perhaps.
I really look forward to reading more from this author. Maybe a story on lily??

A lovely happy ending!

I'm so pleased that Mitchell got his story finished. This series has been amazing and I will miss the characters a lot. All their quirks and especially the magic. Magic is missing from every day life most of the time, these books have encouraged me to look for it again. So thank you.
