Piper Putnam's coffee shop serves the best lattes in Caramel-by-the-Sea... and maybe a little magic on the side.
Piper has perfected the art of keeping people at arm's length. Running Magical Mornings Café in the witchy coastal town of Caramel-by-the-Sea, she's built a life that's safe, successful, and completely hers. No messy relationships. No vulnerability. No risk of being abandoned again.
Then Drake Bishop starts showing up every morning with his stormy eyes and that infuriating smile, and suddenly her protection spells aren't working anymore.
When the town's festival money disappears, Piper agrees to help Drake investigate. Just committee business. Nothing personal. Except their minds start connecting in ways that shouldn't be possible, and she can feel his emotions like they're her own.
Now Piper must solve two mysteries. Who stole from her beloved town... and whether the feelings blazing between her and Drake are real, or just an ancient spell finally coming due.
The festival deadline is closing in. The thief is still out there. And Piper's about to discover that the biggest mystery in Caramel-by-the-Sea has always been her.
Returning to Caramel-by-the-Sea feels a bit like coming home. A charming little town where magic quietly weaves through everyday life: enchanted lanterns light up the streets at night, magical vines offer comfort, and witches live side by side with ordinary humans.
This second installment follows Piper, owner of the Magical Morning Café, a place she has poured her heart into building. Every morning, veterinarian and sorcerer Drake stops by for his usual coffee, a slice of cake... and a chance to admire Piper from afar.
The attraction is mutual, but Piper has spent her whole life protecting her heart. Abandoned by her father when she was five, orphaned soon after, and raised without much affection, she has convinced herself that love only leads to pain. She even wears a cursed bracelet designed to prevent her from falling in love.
When the town's Fourth of July celebration is threatened by missing funds, Drake begins investigating the mystery. Piper can't help but join him, insisting it's only to help the town... definitely not because she wants to spend time with him.
As they unravel the mystery together, their relationship slowly blossoms, and we also discover more about the origins of the first witches and the magic surrounding Caramel-by-the-Sea.
I really enjoyed returning to this magical world. The writing remains cozy and atmospheric, making Caramel-by-the-Sea a place I'd happily visit again.
That said, this installment felt a little more rushed than the first. A few continuity and proofreading errors pulled me out of the story—for example, a customer entering the café twice in the same scene, or Piper putting on a dress before smoothing her hands over her jeans. Nothing major, but enough to momentarily break the immersion.
I also felt that the secondary characters weren't as developed as they were in the first book. There are still many unanswered questions and open storylines, though I suspect they'll be explored in the next installment.
Overall, I enjoyed this sequel, even if I found it slightly weaker than the first book. I'm still looking forward to seeing where the series goes next.

I rarely write reviews when I can't honestly give the author five stars, but I loved Willow & Wisp and I've pre-ordered the next two books in the series, but if they turn out like this one, I will be very disappointed.
I hope the author doesn't mind a little con crit. This book felt like it did not get the attention Willow & Wisp received in the writing and editing process. The 4th of July plot (as it turns out, the secondary plot line) felt like a contrivance to bring together the protagonists every other day; filler that had a lot of repetition without consequential results. At the end of the book, in the 'after' notes, the reader is told that the actual witch royalty plot line will play out through the remaining books. As the reader, I don't mind that the overall plot line will eventually resolve in the next four books, but giving it a more substantial set up in this book would have been far more enjoyable than the 4th of July that 'wasn't' for two and half weeks, then planned and produced in 3 days, especially since there was much wibbling at the beginning of the story regarding how short a time they had to plan the festival to begin with.
Initially, when the story began, I assumed Piper's archaic language (the infrequent use of contractions) was character driven, but as the story progressed, all of the characters were written in this rather stilted style. I was enchanted with Willow & Wisp and actually went back it to see if I'd completely overlooked this kind of language in the first book. W&W did not suffer from a lack of contractions, creating fluid dialogue and easy reading that, sadly, didn't make its way into this book.
I'm not a professional author, but I've done a lot of editing for myself and other writers. Early in my writing journey someone gave me a jewel of a suggestion - read your story out loud and listen for repetitive words and phrasing. If you don't have 1st readers or an editor, reading it aloud to oneself can make a world of difference in a story.
Please know that if I didn't love the whole idea and framework of Caramel-by-the-Sea, I wouldn't bother to take the time to leave a review at all. There's so much potential in this series, I'd love to see the remaining books live up to the promise Willow & Wisp gave us.
𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘊𝘢𝘧é is Jackie Vest's second novel set in Caramel-by-the-Sea, a charming small town on the California coast populated by witches and artisans. The cobblestone streets are lit by magical lanterns every evening, and secret passages wind in between the shops.
The world-building in this series is detailed and beautiful, and you definitely need to read with a cozy drink and snack in hand because all of the delicious food in the story will give you cravings! There are also a couple of recipes included in the book that I'm excited to try!
Piper Putnam is excited to join the committee planning the community's annual Fourth of July celebration, but the festival might have to be cancelled when the funds go missing. Piper teams up with veterinarian and fellow witch, Drake Bishop, to get to the bottom of the theft. Yet they soon discover there's another mystery to solve that links their families together for generations.
One of the real strengths of this story is the cast of characters and how they show up for one another, whether it's to celebrate a personal victory or to lend a shoulder to cry on. The first book in the series, 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 & 𝘞𝘪𝘴𝘱 𝘗𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘚𝘩𝘰𝘱, introduced this delightful circle of witches, and we get to know them even better in 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘊𝘢𝘧é. I'd love to hang out with these folks in their magical town!
This story is perfect for readers who enjoy stories about:

I'm looking forward to reading more stories in this cozy, witchy, magical series. 🌊🌟
"Magical Mornings Cafe" by Jackie Vest was a cozy mystery and cute romance wrapped in one book. The story is told from Piper's point of view, she is the owner of the cafe, a business she inherited from her aunt and made successful through her hard work. She joins the Fourth of July Festival committee and spends more time with Drake, the town's veterinarian. Mysteries are discovered and uncovered, but not all! After being hurt in the past, Piper is very guarded with her feelings but she is tempted to let Drake into her small circle, along with her 5 friends, who you meet in the first book. Overall, I thought the book was well written. I like the touches of magic and whimsy throughout, I like the concept of Piper's found family with all their familiars. My only gripes with the book were 1. it seemed very long. I felt like the same story could have been told in a shorter book, that maybe had fewer repeated descriptions of dust motes, and enchanted lanterns, and jewelry pulsing, and things being brilliant. And 2. there were some inconsistencies that drove me crazy. She met Drake at 4pm in June but the sun is going down? Nope. She restored a vintage VW Bug but it has a key fob? Nope. I still kept reading, and will probably continue the series, but those small things bugged me!
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This was my first time reading this author and I am pleasantly surprised. This was my first time reading this author, and I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s a perfect cozy, slow-burn mystery. I didn’t mind coming into the second book without having read the first in the series. I enjoyed getting to know the friend group and the other people in town. The love story was definitely good. I was impatient for the first kiss, but it was worth the wait. I’m excited to see what happens in the next book and will probably go back and read the first one of the series.
The only negative I have is that the story spends a lot of time talking about light and food. I’m on a diet and reading about every little thing, in detail, the main characters eat, make, and share was hard. Even the lighting and the atmosphere of places were described with phrases like “honey golden light” or such. I know that might not be an issue for most people, but when 40% of the book has this, it can be hard. I just ended up skipping most descriptions by the mid to end of the book. Overall, though, it’s a great book! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Let's talk about "Magical Mornings Cafe" by Jackie Vest.
This is the second book in the Caramel-by-the Sea Series, focusing on Piper Putnam, our feisty, yet guarded witch who runs the Magical Mornings Cafe. With her familiar Biscuit, Piper is ready to take on the world - focusing on the Fourth of July Committee she is now a part of as well as maneuvering through the obstacle of one Drake Bishop, the local veterinarian in town.
Vest's writing is quaint, wholesome, and pulls you in like a warm cup of coffee. Focusing on small town vibes, a cozy mystery, and romance, she weaves a spell upon you as you spend the day with Piper and Biscuit.
There were times though I felt that Vest was repeating herself, almost as if there was a desire to make sure that the reader understood what the main character was thinking, but it didn't take away from the story.
Thank you to Jackie Vest and Book Sirens for the advanced readers copy for my open and honest review.

This is the second book in the Caramel-by-the Sea Series, with Piper Putnam, the sweet yet guarded witch who runs the Magical Mornings Cafe, her little dog Biscuit, and Drake Bishop the local veterinarian in town. Magic, mystery, binding friendships, and romance … what more could I ask for?
I felt drawn in from the start, a lovely, magical story woven through the author’s apparent love of the subject and the enchanting Caramel-by-the-Sea, a haven for witches. Through the masterful painting of her words, I often found myself wanting to live there, spend some time at the coffee shop and walk through the town and down to the beach. (I’ve been to several coastal California towns and they are lovely!)
I didn’t want it to end - I enjoyed it that much - but yet stayed up late last night to finish. I absolutely love this series! I am already anxiously waiting for the next.

With Magical Mornings Cafe, you jump back into the world of the quaint and cozy coastal town of Caramel by the Sea.
For this book, you follow the journey of Piper, one of the witches in town who is part of a group of friends all with magical abilities. Piper owns a coffee shop, and often finds herself closed off to connection and has trust issues. However, a town mystery brings her closer to a particular vet in town which brings to light secrets about her own life.
I wish we heard more at the end about Piper’s family history since that seemed to be left unresolved, but overall the story was cute, cozy, and easy to read.
I look forward to the stories left to come in the series.
Absolutely adored this book it was sweet and magical the romance between Piper and Drake was adorable the town sounds amazing I just want to move there now and every time they discussed food it made me hungry (please don't miss the recipes at the back of the book they are absolutely amazing and the hearthstone buns are the best thing I've ever tasted 🤩) to If you love a cozy witchy mystery with the cutest familiars and found family this is without doubt the book for you 5***** I received an advance copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily
I really enjoyed this book! The descriptions were amazing and so detailed, making Caramel-by-the-Sea feel cozy, magical, and easy to picture. I loved the mix of romance, mystery, and witchy magic between Piper and Drake. The story pulled me in, and I cannot wait to read more from this series!

I was chosen as a ARC reader for this book, a book that I could not put down once I started. Seeing the characters develop, the storyline between Piper and Drake, the lovely town and its mysteries. What can I say other than, I cannot wait to start book 3 and 4!!! You have to add this wonderfully written series to your shelf!
This book is a cozy mystery including fated bonds, whimsical magic and cozy atmosphere. Reading this book will certainly give you a few magical mornings of your own.
Absolutely loved the first book in the series. For some reason, this one fell a little flat to me. I was excited about the prospect of a coffee shop setting and loved the dog familiars.

This is the second book in the Caramel-by-the-Sea series. While it can absolutely be read as a standalone, I always recommend starting from the beginning - especially with a series this good, you won't want to miss the first one!
I absolutely loved Piper and Drake's story. Piper's taste in music and her style? A solid 10/10! This is a book about magic, found family, the fear of falling in love, and ultimately, finding the courage to open your heart. The plot is beautifully elevated by a mysterious disappearance of money, which brings Piper and Drake closer together and slowly unravels a deeper secret connecting their pasts.
It's a beautifully detailed, cozy slow-burn where magic seamlessly blends into everyday life. Honestly, Piper’s story felt even more magical than Ally's, and I was completely enchanted by that. This isn't a story about epic battles with demons. It’s a story about conquering everyday fears, with a perfect touch of magic.
