Briar Bennett has always been my best friend, nothing more.
I’ve had a crush on her since high school, but we’ve never crossed that line.
Except when she transfers to Hollis U and asks me for a wild favor: Take her V-card and show her the ropes in the bedroom.
I agree to show her all the steamy stuff she wants. We promise to stay best friends, despite all the dirty things we do.
But the more time I spend in my bed with Briar, the more the lines blur…
Soon she’s sleeping in my bed every night. She’s wearing my jersey and cheering me on the ice.
And when I tell her about my secret sexy social media account outside of hockey, she helps me turn it into a life-changing opportunity.
When she confesses that she’s always had a crush on me too, my whole world turns upside down.
I’m falling hard for Briar…I think she’s falling for me too…
Maybe my beautiful best friend isn’t off limits after all.

Sarah Smith is a copywriter-turned-author who wants to make the world a lovelier place, one kissing story at a time. Her love of romance began when she was eight and she discovered her auntie's stash of romance novels. She's been hooked ever since. When she's not writing, you can find her hiking, eating chocolate, and perfecting her lumpia recipe. She is also one half of the romance writing duo Sarah Skye. Sarah also writes tearjerker fiction under the name Sarah Echavarre
Blair and Blake were sweet. They’ve been best friends since high school but hiding their feelings for each other.
Not much happens, the spicy lessons were fun but Blair goes from 0-100 in the bedroom which didn’t make much sense to me. She’s this shy, introverted timid girl then has one spicy lesson with her best friend and all of a sudden she’s this vixen in the bedroom.
One thing I don’t enjoy with friends to lovers is when the MMC has apparently always been obsessed with the FMC and had a crush on them for years. But then you find out how many girls he’s slept with, when he lost his virginity and how he’s helped two other women lose their virginity 🙃 I don’t wanna know all that.
Despite the few issues I had, I still liked their story.
Thank you to author Sarah Smith for the arc! Childhood friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and if it ends up being best friends to lovers as it was in this book, it made it even better. Briar and Blake were meant to be even if it takes some time for them to reveal their true feelings. I love that their relationship starts to change to something more because Briar initiated the flirting which eventually led to the spicy lessons. I also loved that Briar was so supportive of Blake’s secret social media account and even jumped in to help him with some of her ideas. This book like all of Sarah’s books is spicy and it definitely works because Briar and Blake are such a perfect match in the bedroom. I can’t wait to see what Sarah writes next!
A cute little hockey romance. Briar and Blake have been best friends forever; and when she calls he runs. When she transfer to his school he hopes this is his chance to show her how good they can be together. But little does Blake know Briar likes him too. And she makes a proposal he cannot refuse. And hopes it doesn’t destroy them both.
This is a sweet friends to lovers romance that gives you all the feels.
I loved how sweet Blake was, especially with how skittish she was after her ex.
“That’s my girl wearing my name and my number on her body.”
I felt like the reason it wasn’t a four star was because I felt like it wrapped up certain dramas too quickly. It didn’t feel real enough for me. But I did enjoy the world and the tropes within it.
Ohh I love a best friends to lovers book and Blair and Blake where perfect!!!!
I like how protective Blake is over Blair and how he does not pressure her to say or do anything she is not ready for. Especially when he knows something bad has happened to her.
I always love a friends to lovers book. See the amazing friendship between Briar and Blake really set the stage for the deep feelings they were holding for one another. I really liked how this novel made me feel like they were about to confess their feelings but then they wouldn’t really took my for a ride. I really liked how protective Blake was. I loved seeing the previous book characters.
Friends-to-lovers romances will always be one of my favorite tropes, but they only work when you genuinely believe the friendship first. Sarah Smith absolutely nailed that with Blake and Briar. Their years of history, inside jokes, unwavering trust, and effortless comfort with each other made every step from friendship to romance feel natural. There wasn't a moment where I questioned why these two belonged together—it honestly felt inevitable.
Blake is everything I want in a romance hero. He's the kind of man who shows up without being asked, quietly puts the person he loves first, and never makes Briar question where she stands with him. After everything she went through before coming to Hollis U, watching someone love her with so much patience, kindness, and unwavering support was incredibly satisfying. He's basically the definition of "if he wanted to, he would," and I was completely obsessed with him.
One thing I have to highlight is how thoughtfully Sarah Smith handled Briar's first sexual experience. It was probably one of the best-written "I'll talk you through it" scenes I've ever read—not because of the heat, but because of the care behind it. Blake never rushes her. He checks in constantly, asks for consent, encourages her to speak up about what she wants, and creates a space where she feels completely safe. Their years of friendship made those moments feel even more meaningful because the trust between them was already there. It wasn't just romantic; it was incredibly intimate in all the right ways.
And speaking of Blake... can we normalize more heroes like him? He's respectful, emotionally available, endlessly patient, and somehow still manages to have an incredibly filthy mouth once the bedroom door closes. The contrast between his sweet golden retriever personality and his confidence when the romance heats up was perfection.
Briar was just as easy to love. Watching her slowly heal, find her confidence again, and finally believe she deserved to be loved made her journey feel incredibly rewarding. I found myself rooting for her every step of the way.
One of my favorite parts of this series continues to be the Hollis U friend group. Nick, Poppy, Travis, Anna, and Leo feel like one big chaotic family, and every scene with them brought something extra to the story. I especially loved seeing Briar's friendships with Poppy and Anna develop. Those relationships gave her the support system she desperately needed, and they added so much heart beyond the romance itself.
I also appreciated that Sarah Smith skipped the unnecessary third-act breakup. Instead of creating conflict through miscommunication, Blake and Briar chose each other. They communicated, supported one another, and kept showing up, which made the ending feel even more satisfying.
Hot Mother Pucker is sweet, funny, comforting, incredibly romantic, and undeniably spicy. It's built on years of friendship, unwavering trust, found family, and two people finally realizing they've been each other's person all along. If you love friends-to-lovers romances, golden retriever heroes, hockey romance, found family, slow burns, and an "it's always been you" love story, this one absolutely deserves a spot on your TBR.
💚 Sometimes Your Best Friend Has Been Your Forever Person All Along 💚 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Hot Mother Pucker was a fun, easy-to-binge friends-to-lovers romance that had me smiling from beginning to end. Sarah Smith created two genuinely lovable characters whose friendship felt authentic long before romance entered the picture. While a few personal preferences kept this from becoming a five-star read for me, Blake and Briar's story was sweet, comforting, and packed with plenty of chemistry.
Blake completely stole this book for me. He's the ultimate golden retriever hero: patient, thoughtful, endlessly supportive, and so in tune with Briar's needs that it was impossible not to fall for him. I loved how naturally enthusiastic consent was woven into every step of their relationship. He constantly checked in with Briar, encouraged her to move at her own pace, and never made her feel pressured. Outside the bedroom, he was simply a genuinely kind person who wanted everyone around him to succeed. Inside the bedroom, though... let's just say his confident dirty talk was a very welcome surprise. That contrast between sweet hockey player and unexpectedly spicy boyfriend made him unforgettable.
Briar was equally easy to root for. After experiencing a difficult situation that led her to transfer schools, she was simply trying to rebuild her confidence and feel comfortable in her own skin again. Watching her slowly heal while rediscovering herself alongside the person she trusted most made her journey feel genuine. Her friendship with Blake gave their romance such a strong emotional foundation, and I appreciated that their relationship grew naturally instead of feeling rushed.
Their transition from lifelong best friends to something more was filled with sweet moments, playful tension, and undeniable chemistry. I especially loved that there was no unnecessary third-act breakup. Instead, this story focused on two people choosing each other, communicating openly, and supporting one another every step of the way. My biggest hesitation came from a couple of personal preferences. I would have liked Briar's confidence in the bedroom to develop a little more gradually, and I struggled with Blake's romantic history given how long he'd supposedly been in love with Briar. Neither issue ruined the story, but they did keep it from becoming a full five-star read for me.
The supporting cast was another highlight. The hockey team brought so much humor and personality to every scene that I immediately wanted to go back and read the first two books. Their friendships felt authentic, the banter was entertaining, and I can already tell this is a series I'll happily continue.
Hot Mother Pucker is a sweet, low-angst romance with lovable characters, plenty of steam, and one of the biggest green-flag heroes I've read in a long time. If you enjoy friends-to-lovers romances with a patient golden retriever hockey player, excellent communication, and all the comforting feels, this one is definitely worth adding to your TBR.
Thank you to Sarah Smith and The Smuthood for the gifted advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I don't think Sarah Smith understands what she's done to my heart because I am STILL smiling over Blake and Briar. 😭🤍
Friends-to-lovers will forever have my heart, and Hot Mother Pucker reminded me exactly why. Blake and Briar's years of friendship made every glance, every touch, and every little moment between them feel so much more meaningful. There wasn't a single second where I doubted how deeply they cared about each other, and that made their love story even sweeter.
Can we PLEASE talk about Blake?? This man is the definition of "if he wanted to, he would." The way he stood by Briar, supported her without hesitation, and never stopped showing up for her had me absolutely melting. Golden retriever book boyfriends truly never miss, and Blake has officially earned a spot on my favorites list. 🥹
And Briar? I loved her so much. Watching her heal, grow, and finally let herself accept the love she deserved was beautiful. Her journey felt so real, and I couldn't help but root for her from beginning to end.
One of my favorite things about this series will always be the Hollis U crew. Every time Nick, Poppy, Travis, Anna, and Leo appeared on the page, I was grinning like an idiot. Their friendships, banter, and found-family dynamic make these books so addictive. They genuinely feel like one big chaotic family, and I never wanted to leave them.
THE CHEMISTRY. THE TENSION. THE FLIRTING. The spice was perfectly balanced with so much emotion that every romantic moment felt earned. And don't even get me started on Blake talking Briar through it... Sarah Smith knew EXACTLY what she was doing. 🌶️🤭
And THAT teaser for Leo's book??? Sarah... respectfully... HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT?? I already know his story is going to emotionally destroy me, and I will be first in line.
Sarah Smith has once again delivered a romance full of heart, laughter, healing, and characters that feel impossible not to love. If you're looking for a romance that will make you laugh, swoon, kick your feet, and hug the book when you're done... Hot Mother Pucker needs to be on your TBR immediately. What to Expect:

Sometimes secrets can do more damage and other times secrets are meant to protect but what happens when the truth comes out? Blake and Briar have been best friends for a very long time and know each other better than anyone else but that doesn't mean that they know everything! They both have secrets even from each other.
Briar transferred to Hollis U for two reasons, one to be with her best friend, and two to get away from a traumatic event caused by her ex boyfriend. Though she didn't tell anyone, including her parents and Blake, the entire story. She was a double major in languages, wanting to study abroad and share her love of foreign languages with others. She is quiet and sweet and has made friends with the Hollis U hockey team and their girlfriends. She works at the library to help cover the cost of her tuition and expenses.
Blake is a Hollis U hockey player, drafted to the NHL with the understanding that he will finish his degree first. He didn't come from a wealthy background and feels guilty that his parents spent so much money over the years on equipment and hockey fees. He has a secret social media account that he earns money to provide for them. He is very protective of his best friends and would do anything for Briar.
With Blake and Briar both at Hollis U they have grown closer. When Briar needs help will Blake be able to help without revealing all his secrets including how he truly feels about her? Will Briar have to tell Blake the entire truth about why she came to Hollis U forfeiting her scholarship at her old university. Slowly some of the secrets are revealed but those actually bring them closer instead of scaring the other away. Blake even goes up against Briar's parents when he hears them criticizing her choices knowing that the move was her way of protecting herself from the trauma. The only secret still left between the two was how they really felt about the other. Everyone in their friends group could see it but they were blinded by their friendship. Who would make the first move past best friends?
I loved Blake and Briar because they accepted each other without hesitation and supported each other unconditionally. They had each other’s backs and protected the other when needed. When Blake learned Briar's truth he made sure she felt safe, reinforced the need for consent, and made her ex pay. When Briar learned Blake's secret, she gave him suggestions and even participated. Her participation increased revenue and he would help him help his parents sooner. They helped each other once again. The unconditional love they share is strong and will last a lifetime. These two are sweet and adorable together in public but in private they reveal parts of themselves they never shared with anyone else. They truly are soulmates!
Thank you Sarah Smith and the Smuthood for the ARC and the opportunity to review this wonderful book and entire series!
A friendship that’s been solid since high school. A love that’s been growing for that same amount of time, but unknown to the other. Wanting to be everything for said person and being willing to change everything in order to win them over. If this fits your vibes, Hot Mother Pucker, by Sarah Smith is for you. Book 3 in the Hollis U series is a story about two people finally being honest with each other. Sarah gives her readers a sweet, yet sensual, story that will have you smiling, blushing, and giggling throughout.
Briar and Blake have been best friends since high school. Now in college, Briar is transferring to the school Blake attends and he feels like it is finally his chance. He wants to finally let Briar know how he feels about her and show her how good they would be together. Briar has a plan of her own and it does involve Blake, but this could make or break their friendship. Briar wants to become more experienced in the bedroom and asks Blake to help teach her.
It is obvious that Blake has it bad for Briar. Granted, he is a total playboy before she is at the same school as him and while this isn’t my favorite, I understand the role it plays in the story. He is willing to become what Briar needs him to be and if Briar chooses him, so be it. All this time he thinks his feelings are one sided, but we come to learn they are not. Briar has loved him for years but never believed she was enough. These two definitely made this a fun read. With every step of their journey together, they learn new things about each other, and realize that their feelings run deep. I loved getting to know them both in this book and Sarah wrote their story perfectly.
Sarah knows how to write friends to lovers. The chemistry is obvious from the beginning and just keeps getting hotter and hotter as the story continues. The confidence that Briar finds in herself is amazing, Blake realizing what he could lose if he isn’t honest, and the romance that takes place is all perfection. A definite must read, in my book. I highly recommend this book, the whole series, and Sarah as an author. You will not be disappointed.
As always, review any author notes before reading.

Thank you to Sarah Smith for the ARC. I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
After reading Grumpy Mother Pucker, I immediately signed up for Blake and Briar's ARC because I knew their story was going to be something special, and it absolutely delivered.
Blake and Briar are everything I love in a friends-to-lovers romance. Their relationship is built on years of trust, friendship, and unwavering support, so when things finally shift into something more, it feels completely natural. Watching them navigate those changing feelings without losing the foundation of their friendship was one of my favorite parts of the book.
Blake is the definition of golden retriever boyfriend energy. He's patient, thoughtful, encouraging, and somehow manages to be both incredibly sweet and incredibly dirty when the moment calls for it. His secret social media side hustle added a fun twist, and I loved how completely comfortable he became letting Briar into every part of his life.
Briar was just as wonderful. I loved that she wasn't afraid to ask for what she wanted, but she also stayed true to herself throughout the story. One of my favorite things about these two was their communication. They actually talked to each other, respected each other's boundaries, knew when to give one another space, and always found their way back together. The relationship felt healthy while still delivering all the tension and chemistry I wanted.
The spice was fantastic without overshadowing the emotional connection. The spice coaching, dirty talk, "good girl" moments, and all the sweetness in between made this one incredibly fun to read. And can we please appreciate a romance that gives us all the feels without relying on a frustrating third-act breakup?
Sarah Smith continues to make me fall in love with the Hollis U world. Every book leaves me wanting to spend more time with these characters, and I already can't wait to see whose story comes next.
If you love: 🏒 Friends to lovers 🏒 Golden retriever MMC 🏒 Slow burn 🏒 Virgin heroine 🏒 Spice coaching 🏒 "It's always been you" 🏒 Excellent communication 🏒 College hockey romance 🏒 No third-act breakup
I received an ARC of this book and am leaving my honest, voluntary review.
3.5 stars. Blake and Briar, best friends since they were 14, maintain to each other that they just want to be friends... but that may not be the case. They find themselves sharing an apartment and a room when Briar unexpectedly leaves college in Chicago and transfers to Blake's school in Colorado after a traumatic night with her ex that breaks down her whole life. Briar is inexperienced and nervous about intimacy and thinks her hockey stud best friend might just be the right person to teach her.
There were several things I really liked about this book. I instantly liked the MMC and FMC. They were both sweet and kind and felt like people I'd want to be friends. Briar's good girl in the streets and maybe a little freaky in the sheets personality was relatable. Blake, or should I call him, Mr Consent King, was a respectful and swoon-worthy man. He also happened to run a secret, drool worthy insta for the female gaze and let me just say, we love a man who is comfortable flaunting what he's got. There was really great representation of consent at every step which is awesome to read especially when his partner has trauma in those areas. The spice scenes were very enjoyable and it was refreshing to see the FMC clearly saying what she wanted and not shying away from that.
There were some parts I didn't love as much. The dialogue felt a little repetitive in parts and could have been pared back in some instances. I know these characters are college aged, but this is a very adult story and the writing came across as somewhat immature at times. I was also hoping for some more complex scenes when resolving the major problems that arose in the story for both characters. I felt as if the scenes we got were incomplete or unsatisfying and we kind of just moved on from the issues too easily when the story was focused on a few main challenges as such huge things.
Overall I felt the story was entertaining as a pallet cleanser, easy read.
I’m a big fan of best friends to lovers stories and this one hit nearly all my favorite marks.
The story between Blake and Briar began in high school… but separated by different colleges in different cities, they were both unable to make a move. Until Briar decided to leave the school she was at and enroll at Hollis U with Blake. This story runs through their story of being two people who are finally being honest with each other… even if it took a bit longer and you want to just jump in and scream at them (because I wanted to!).
While it’s obvious to literally everyone else, Blake is down bad for Briar. Of course, he was the playboy in her absence, but upon her return he’s back to the golden retriever hero who swoops in to save the day, let’s her stay in his room because she has no where to live. Their chemistry is off the charts long before they admit it to each other.
Things I really enjoyed that were well written and handled with care include • Consent King, Blake • First time moments • Show me moments • Previous bad relationship
Where I struggled a bit is where Briar went from 0 to 100 in the bedroom. Being sweet, innocent and inexperienced… it went really fast for me.
In the end, their story is almost so sweet it would give you a cavity. I really enjoyed following along with their story and look forward to reading more from Sarah Smith. I had not read the previous stories before this, but I am excited to dig in deeper to more from Sarah as her writing style drew me in and kept me going.
What lead me to my rating? 4/5 characters (only weirded out by the exponential growth sexually in Briar) 4/5 storyline (same as above) 5/5 banter, relationship growth and true love 5/5 relationship between FMC & MMC 5/5 handling tough topics
TL:DR ⭐️ 4/5 🏫 College Setting 🏒 Hockey Romance 😎 Reformed Playboy ❤️🔥 Slow Burn 🏡 Forced Proximity 🔥 Spicy Lessons 💝 Virgin FMC 🫶 It's always been you 🌶️ 3.5/5
Thank you again to Sarah Smith and thesmuthood for the ARC opportunity!
Sarah Smith delivers another hit in Hot Mother Pucker- the Hollis U series somehow keeps getting better. Blake has hovered at the edges of the first two books—steady, loyal, always showing up for Nick and Travis—but this story finally gives him center stage, and he shines brilliantly.
His dynamic with his best friend, Briar is instantly compelling: they’ve had feelings for each other since freshman year of high school, both quietly convinced their feelings were one‑sided, both too afraid to risk the friendship that shaped their lives thus far.
By the time senior year of college rolls around, Briar’s transfer to Hollis U due to a bad breakup (no spoilers) brings them back under the same roof, literally. Her vulnerability, paired with Blake’s gentle steadiness, sets the tone for their shift from friendship into something deeper. When she confides that she’s still a v1rgin and asks Blake to teach her about s*x, Smith handles those moments with care—focusing on communication, consent, and emotional safety. Blake’s tenderness, patience, and genuine prioritization of Briar’s needs make their connection feel earned and heartfelt. Everyone should have this experience for their first time. And his frequent taco‑buying devotion to her is a charming bonus.
The story leans into the fun of the friends‑to‑lovers trope without relying on a dramatic third‑act breakup. I finished this novel in under a day because I couldn’t put it down. The anonymous thirst‑trap insta account adds a playful thread, and the spice factor is the spiciest of the series so far without sacrificing the safe connection they’ve established. Although this isn’t the first Hollis U book, it can be read as a stand‑alone; but reading books 1 and 2 first will provide added depth from knowing the wider cast (who feature prevalently in this book).
If you love character‑driven college romance and supportive cinnamon roll partners, this installment is a standout. Looking forward to Leo’s story next!
Hot Mother Pucker is book 3 of the Hollis U series. It’s a friends to lovers, slow burn romance with spicy lessons. Ever since Briar was first introduced as Blake’s best friend in Grumpy Mother Pucker, I’ve been so excited for their book and it did not disappoint!
Blake and Briar have been best friends since high school. And since high school, they’ve had feelings for one another, but never acted on them. Briar transfers to Hollis U after a bad breakup with her ex and ends up rooming with Blake. Shortly after they’re back in each other’s orbit, do they both start to realize that they can’t harbor those feelings any longer.
Briar and Blake are so cute and sweet together. They are constantly flirting and steeling glances at one another. It’s pretty obvious to everyone that it’ll only become a matter of time until the line gets crossed. That line gets crossed once Briar asks Blake for spicy lessons, and those were some pretty spicy scenes.
Blake has a secret social media account, where he post thirst traps of himself. It also happens to be Briar favorite thirst trap account. Once Blake shares his secret with her, she ends up helping him out with his account.
Like all the other MMCs in this series, Blake is fiercely protective of Briar. He’s so patient with her, doesn’t push and he always shows up (both in and out of the bedroom). Briar has him wrapped around her finger and he can’t tell her no. He’s definitely the definition of “if he wanted to, he would”.
So far I am loving the Hollis U series, especially the friend group. Nick, Poppy, Travis, Anna, and Leo are so supportive of one another and each scene with them in it, was so sweet. I loved how accepting they were of Briar and how she fit into the friend group perfectly.
Overall, Hot Mother Pucker was a fun and sweet friends to lovers and “it’s always been you” romance. I cant wait to see what’s next in the Hollis U series!!
I absolutely love a good friends-to-lovers romance, and this one delivered everything I was hoping for and more. Blake and Briar spent years firmly in the friend zone, which made the foundation of their relationship feel so authentic and meaningful. Their history together created a connection that was impossible not to root for.
Blake was the kind of hero who showed up when it mattered most, especially after everything fell apart for Briar in Chicago. His unwavering support, loyalty, and patience made their journey from friends to something more incredibly rewarding to watch unfold.
One of my favorite parts of this book was getting to spend more time with Nick, Poppy, Travis, Anna, and Leo. These characters feel like family, and their friendships add so much heart to the story. Hockey romances always hit differently for me because the found-family dynamic is unmatched, and this book was no exception. The camaraderie, support, and banter among the group made every scene even more enjoyable.
The chemistry between Blake and Briar was sweet, heartfelt, and built on years of trust, making every romantic moment feel earned. I found myself smiling through so many of their interactions and cheering for them every step of the way.
And can we talk about that sneak peek for Leo's story.....If that's any indication of what's coming next, we're in for drama, tension, and emotional chaos on a whole new level and I am absolutely here for it. I cannot wait to dive into his book!

Well friends, book 3 is coming to you soon, and it was as delightful as C0cky and Grumpy Mother Pucker. We get the story of Blake and Briar - two best friends, who refused to ruin the friendship. As always, just ruin the friendship guys... or at least say something. Don't wait 10 years... or however long these two chuckleheads waited. This book brings you some fun tropes...
Tropes 🔥 Friends to Lovers 🔥 Sxy Lessons 🔥 Protective MMC 🔥 Virgin FMC 🔥 "Good Girl" 🔥 No 3rd Act breakup 🔥 Dirty Talk
So what's the sitch, what's the 411? Well, our two friends find themselves in a cohabitation situation after Briar ran from Chicago due to a bad ex. Blake was her safe landing and he provided a bed and his friendship while she gathered herself. Sarah wrote us a fluffy story where the couple doesn't break up for added conflict. The two characters yearned in silence for years (maybe it wouldn't have been years if she didn't tell him he was like a brother to her... but that's none of my business).
Anyway, I enjoyed this story. She had parental drama - which checks out, because college... though chill out mom and dad, she's an adult. He had personal drama - maybe he's the next big internet sensation, who knows?
These two were obviously endgame. And they made good partners in this story. This was a fluffy little love story with a satisfying ending. Definitely, give this a read.
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25 Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I received this ARC from the Smuthood. The opinions I have about this are my own.
3.7 stars ..... Hot Mother Pucker is the 3rd book in the Hollis U series, and a fun read! I've read all three books and while I enjoyed the first two storylines more than this one, it's a solid read and a good time.
This is a light, easy read about college life and love. I like this series because although they do have some drama to make the story more interesting, it's nothing too heavy and the issues are resolved relatively easily. Good palate cleaners between darker or heavier reads.
I also really like the characters and the plots in these books. They are college age and feel like it, or at least what I remember of college life. Struggling through trying to figure out the college environment, friends and social times, figuring out what you want to do for the rest of your life and of course love. And it's done in a way that gives these characters control of figuring out their lives without it turning into major miscommunication, or 3rd act breakups etc. They figure out their stuff in a natural, organic, mature way. I love that.
The main characters are Blake and Briar (cutteee) who have been friends since high school, and each has had a crush on the other, but didn't know how the other felt and have just been best friends for a long time. Both are going to different colleges, but Briar has an ugly incident at her school and decides to leave and ends up at the same college as Blake.
And that's all I'm going to say. If you like the Friends to Lovers trope you will like this. It's super cute. But, major FYI .... it is spicccyyyy. I think this might be the spiciest of the series yet. I was here for it, but if that is not your cup of tea, then you might not want to read this, because it is liberally sprinkled throughout the story.
You definitely get a clue about who's book is coming next and I will definitely be reading it!
Eeeee! In true style, another month and another return to Hollis U and I might not have too much more to say about this series, or this author....but it doesn't stop these books getting better and better - I am officially a firm fan!
Having said that, friends to lovers is possibly my least favourite romance trope - I mean, you've been 'close' forever, how are you only just noticing that you like like each other! Well, I'm being proven wrong (yet again) because this really works for Briar and Blake.
Having seen them in brief snatches through the series, I was so happy that they were finally getting their story out there and what better story than our hot and sexy hockey star stepping up to the line and helping out his best friend.
To everyone else out there, it's been pretty obvious that both Briar and Blake have had more than a friendship, but both also dare not spoil that close bond they have by venturing into anything extra - that is until Briar began bLake to take her v-card. I mean, I kind of get it ...he's hot and she trusts him to take care of her ....I can't think of a better way to take that first step really!?
Having read a fair few books now by this author, I can confirm that the spice is great. Here, we see everything we'd expect from a spicy read, but with so many great additions - Blake was such a cutie and totally there for making her experience the best for his girl.
I loved the whole side story and of course the drama with family too - but this just shows that family is much more than blood and I absolutely love that the team (with extras) is all about loyalty, support and compassion when needed.
A brilliant read and as much as I can't wait to bring on book 4 - I'm not sure I really want this series to end either!
🏒 That's my girl wearing my name and my number on her body. 🏒
"Knowing that I can trust you with my heart as my friend means you'll never break it as my lover." 🤍
Another book by Sarah Smith, another great read! 💜✨📚 I have to admit, I still prefer her books with slightly older main characters, like "So Pucking Good", but I really enjoyed this one too 🤩
Blake completely stole my heart 🫠 He's confident, kind, protective, supportive... and let's be honest, he's seriously hot, so he really is the whole package 🥵🤤 And Briar? I adored her 🩷 She's smart, strong, sweet, and knows exactly what she wants. I loved how she always believed in Blake, cheered him on, and supported him no matter what 😍 They truly bring out the best in each other 🫶🏻
My favorite part was watching their relationship grow from such a solid friendship 🥹 They know each other inside and out, trust each other completely, have no secrets, and always feel safe together. Their connection felt so genuine, and I couldn't help but root for them from the very beginning 🥰
I also loved how Blake's friends welcomed Briar into their group without hesitation. They made her feel like she belonged, and I honestly adored their entire friend group 💚
This is a fun, sexy, and spicy friends to lovers romance 🔥 Where the FMC discovers herself — and her sexuality — with the help of her best friend, who's been secretly in love with her for years 🫠 The chemistry is amazing, the friendship is everything, and the romance is incredibly satisfying 😍❤️🔥
If you love friends to lovers, slow burn, golden retriever MMC, sunshine FMC, dirty talk, "it's always been you", and plenty of spice, definitely add this one to your TBR! ✨💕
I would've loved if this book was a 5⭐. I love Hollis U series and this universe and its characters. I really liked Blake, I think he was great in this book. He was charismatic, loving, an absolute consent king. He was an incredible friend and really patient with Briar's needs.
I think for me, this story fell flat. I wasn't sold on Briar, I still don't understand how can she go from shy to a flirt to a sex goddess in 10 seconds. It seemed she relied too much on others opinions even the positive ones, like Poppy and Anna's. I didn't like how she could be mad or fine with Blake with one sentence when he's constantly going out of his way to be there for her. She complained about Blake never seeing her as more than a friend by constantly calling him her BROTHER, I'm all in for deflection but how can a guy know if you call him your brother. And once they seemed to be on the same page she puts him on the sex teacher category, for me it felt like she was constantly using him and he was just contempt with getting to kiss her. I love yearning, this didn't felt like it.
The dialogues felt weird this time and interactions carried a sense of awkwardness between the mmcs. Except, when they were in the bedroom, things were on fire in there, their sexual chemistry was palpable and very on point. I hate that the same can't be said about their emotional chemistry. It still was easy paced and honestly a fast read book because I finished it in no time.
I loved that we get to see the gang together again, Travis and Anna stole my attention whenever they were mentioned. Nick and Poppy are still cute as ever and I loved that they were rooting for Blake and Briar.
✨✨✨ Thank you to the author Sarah Smith and also Smuthood for sending me this arc. I reviewed Travis and Anna’s story and fell in love with this series!!! I have been so excited for this release!! The little glimpse in the previous book was not enough, and it was worth the wait!!!!!
Blake and Briar 😍😍😍😍😍 their friendship was literal goals, they literally moved as one. Everything they did, it always concerned each other. Like for example Blake would order a salad with olives just because Briar loves them. Or when she got sad he would buy her tacos!!!! They even spoke their own language (well looks and signals)
Everyone knew they wanted each other and their little moments would be so sweet, also how Briar came to the new University and was instantly taken in by everyone. Which is unsurprising because these characters are just 🥹🥹🥹
The whole secret masked thirst accounts on Instagram was a nice touch. It was different but also it paved the way to their relationship after her confession of watching it. Like out of all the accounts???? She had to follow his, I wonder what the other guys thought when they found out their girls also followed 😂😂😂
As always the hockey team and their brotherhood was amazing, and not to give it away but they’re always there to support and stick up for when someone attacks one of their own. So ofc it was needed for the social media post because it linked it to the others and showed no matter who was in trouble, they’re all gonna put their career on the line. It was definitely worth the wait!!! And can’t wait for another instalment of the Hollis U series💚 ✨✨✨
This was such a fun, sweet, and ridiculously spicy surprise from a new-to-me author! Even though this is book three in the series, it works perfectly as a standalone. That said… I immediately downloaded the first two books because I completely fell in love with Nick, Travis, Anna, and Poppy, and now I need their stories too.
The friends-to-lovers romance between Briar and her golden retriever hockey player was everything I wanted. The slow burn made every moment of payoff worth the wait, and I adored how naturally their friendship evolved into something deeper. Their chemistry was undeniable, but what really made this book stand out was the hero himself.
Can we normalize more MMCs like this? He’s patient, respectful, constantly checking in, genuinely attuned to Briar’s feelings, and makes consent feel effortlessly sexy. He’s the definition of a green flag… until he opens his mouth in the bedroom. The dirty talk? Absolutely top tier. That sweet golden boy persona hides a very spicy side, and I was not prepared for the sexy surprises he had tucked away.
I also loved that there was no unnecessary third-act breakup. Watching two best friends choose each other, communicate, and cheer each other on made this romance feel comforting while still delivering plenty of steam.
If you love friends to lovers, golden retriever MMCs, sunshine heroines, slow burns with explosive chemistry, spice coaching, “good girl,” dirty talk, and an “it’s always been you” romance, this one is definitely worth adding to your TBR.
Thank you to The Smuthood and the author for the ARC. This review is only my opinion 🩵
My love for friends to lovers books seriously knows no bounds and Sarah Smith took it to the next level. There is nothing better than tension from years and years of pining and the characters being heartbroken over and over again from seeing their “best friend” date or hook up with someone. But when Briar breaks up with her boyfriend and crashes at Blake’s they can only deny their feelings for so long. Blake is a protective boy and so damn obsessed with her, and every time he comforted her, bought her favourite tacos, and reassured and encouraged her, my heart melted a little more. Briar clearly had loved him for a long time too and their love for each other is the most beautiful thing ever. With a huge part of the plot being the “spicy lessons” the smut was obviously bomb. The virgin fmc trope is very prominent, and I also liked how it addressed the unfortunate shaming around concepts of virginity and celibacy. Although Brair is a virgin, I loved how she excluded the “innocent” part of that because once she got comfortable, she had no problem ordering Blake to do all the dirty things to her. And Blake is so damn hot, like no wonder he had a faceless thirst trap account because wow that man is ripped and good at what he does. He is a pleasure dom at his finest but also loves when Brair gets a little bossy. There’s also a great found family part of this too, and I cried so much when Brair started finding her place with Poppy and Anna after everything she’s been through. This book had literally the perfect plot and romance (with no third act breakup too!), I cried so many times because of how beautiful their romance was and I will be thinking about them for a very long time. I give this a 5/5
I’ve been waiting for Blake and Briar’s story, and it didn’t disappoint!
These two have been best friends since high school. Watching them finally stop dancing around their feelings was so satisfying.
Briar transfers from Chicago University to Hollis after a traumatic experience with her ex-boyfriend, though no one knows the real reason she left. I appreciated that this part of her story was handled with care, and it added an emotional depth to the romance. Of course, things get even more complicated when Hollis has to play Chicago, bringing all of that history back to the surface.
Blake was exactly the hero I hoped he’d be. He was patient, protective, and willing to meet Briar where she was emotionally. I also got a kick out of his secret Instagram account where he makes money posting shirtless pictures. It added some fun, lighthearted moments to balance the heavier parts of the story.
Like the other books in the series, there’s drama and the possibility of players getting kicked off the hockey team, so there was enough happening outside of the romance to keep the story moving.
One thing to know going in: this is a very spicy book. There are multiple chapters dedicated to the spice, so if that’s your thing, you’ll probably love it. For me, I would have preferred a little less spice and a little more hockey and character development, but I still really enjoyed Blake and Briar’s journey.
If you like college hockey romances, best friends to lovers, “he’s loved her all along,” protective heroes, emotional healing, and lots of spice, this is another enjoyable addition to the series.
Two people who have had a secret crush on each other since the beginning, but due to shyness they stayed friends. Now older, Briar had a bad thing happening to her and decide to switch college to Hollis U, where her best friend Blake goes. But, she is tired of feeling so awkward in anything sexual and wants to learn the way around a bedroom, and who better to teach her than the one person she feels the most comfortable with and trust, her best friends and hockey player, Blake.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars because i'm not really a fan when the guy in the bedroom ask if everything is okey, or feels good. But it still goes well with Blakes personality, who by the way i thought would be an arrogant, playboy, not a cinnamon/golden retriever kind.
I am blown away about the kindness of Blake, he makes my heart melt. The way he care so much for the people around him is adorable. And poor Briar, my heart ache for her and i loved how Blake helped her get comfortable in herself and how she grew with the story. And as always, the hockey team guys are funny as hell with their different personalities, sometimes its so strange that the are actually friends. I love the writing of Sarah Smith, its first person and dual POV that gives more connection with the book and the story. Its easy to follow, the plot isnt some huge thing, but aligned good with the story itself. And its always a bonus to get to read a bit from the next book in the series, and i cant wait to read Leo's story!
I can recommend this book to anyone who enjoys an easy going, fun romance.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this ARC!
I really wanted to love Hot Mother Pucker because I genuinely enjoyed the first two books in the Hollis U series. Unfortunately, this one just wasn’t my favorite.
The story follows Briar and Blake, childhood best friends who reconnect when Briar transfers to Blake’s college after a difficult breakup. There were definitely things I enjoyed. Blake is a protective MMC, the chemistry between them is sweet, and there are plenty of spicy moments throughout. I also appreciated the found family dynamic that has become a staple of this series.
That said, the story just never fully clicked for me. It leaned heavily into a rom-com feel, but at times it reminded me of a Hallmark movie with added spice, which wasn’t quite what I was looking for. I also wasn’t completely sold on some of the central conflicts. The storyline surrounding Blake’s anonymous thirst-trap Instagram account felt like it was blown into a much bigger issue than it needed to be, and because of that, some of the later conflict didn’t resonate with me.
Even though this one missed the mark for me personally, I still think fans of lighter hockey romances will enjoy it. Sarah Smith’s writing remains easy to read, and it’s a quick, entertaining romance with lovable characters.
Overall, while it wasn’t my favorite in the series, I’m still looking forward to seeing what comes next from Hollis U.

There is something so special about a bond built on years of history, and watching Blake and Briar finally bridge that gap between best friends and something more was pure magic. Blake is the ultimate green flag, a protective, golden retriever hero who is deeply devoted to Briar. Seeing him support her so tenderly made my heart melt, and their authentic connection made every romantic moment feel completely earned.
The group dynamics and found family elements were just as heartwarming as the main romance. I loved seeing the hockey team and the entire friend group rally around them whenever things got difficult. Their camaraderie adds so much warmth to the story, making it feel like catching up with dear friends. It is refreshing to see a group so genuinely supportive of one another, and their presence makes the journey feel all the more grounded and special.
Ultimately, this was a sweet and steamy read that left me smiling from ear to ear. It hits all the right notes of long standing pining, deep seated trust, and genuine care that make this trope so addictive. I loved how comfortable they remained with each other as their dynamic evolved, and the lack of a forced third-act breakup was a huge relief.
This series has firmly cemented itself as a must read for me.
