Broken Pride is the second book in the Texas Pride series by Kindle Alexander. I adored the first book in this series which I read years ago. I was so excited that they decided to add a book two. But I have to be honest and admit that I struggled a bit with it. The dialogue didn’t flow well for me. But, I did love the two characters.

Slade Whitaker is twenty nine years old. He is an “A” list Hollywood actor. He starred in movies and also was the star of a current, very popular series. He is wealthy beyond measure. Because of his career, he keeps his sexuality a well concealed secret. He owns a ranch in Texas and every summer when filming for the series finishes, he spends two glorious months hidden away on his land, resting and remembering who he is without all the glitz and glamour.

He had just arrived along with his friends who spend a weekend with him every summer. They were picking up their liquor order when he saw “HIM!” Their eyes met, his breath hitched, his mouth went dry, and he fell in love.

Mason “Mace” Sutton is twenty six years old. Mace has always known he was gay but he has also, always kept his sexuality a secret. He lives in a tiny Texas town and is convinced he would never be accepted. His family owns the town bar/restaurant/liquor store which has been in his family for generations. Mace works for his family but years ago, he rode in the rodeo. But after a life changing accident, he left everything behind. When the group of guys pulled up for their liquor order, he felt it too. He had no idea who the man was. Mace didn’t watch TV or movies. He has never reacted to a man like this before and he has no interest in pursuing it. He needs to stay as far away from Slade as possible. But Slade’s friends and Mace’s evil sister have other ideas!!

As these two move forward, what started out as a one time thing turned into more, and feelings grew fast. Mace tries to keep his heart locked down because he knows Slade is leaving at the end of his vacation. His heart, though, has other ideas.

With Slade’s support, Mace slowly is able to let go of the pain of his past. His dream of starting an animal refuge on his own ranch start to look possible. Slade is all in with Mace and insists they will figure things out but Mace is convinced their lives are too different to ever be able to mesh together.

As I said before, I did love these two. They were so sweet and cute together. Slade was so overwhelming with his feelings. Poor Mace didn’t stand a chance. But things are never easy and they definitely had challenges to face. If you enjoy cowboy romance, then give this a try. It just wasn’t one of my favorites from this writing duo.

I tried but gave up at 35%. It’s been quite awhile since I read a Kindle Alexander book, all of them at least 4 stars, but this one wasn’t working for me. The way Slade and his friends initially approached Mason was so gross and trashy. “I call dibs on that hot ass.” kinda stuff. I feel Slade is pushing Mason too hard and I don’t want to read the angst.

Kindle Alexander is one of my favorite authors and Texas Pride an all-time-favorite book. I was looking forward to a sequel, but unfortunately was utterly disappointed. It is nearly the same plot - Hollywood actor buys spacious estate to spend his time-off free of paparazzi, meets cowboy, falls in love and has a security breach that leads to his being outed as gay. So why didn't meet this book my expectations?
- I had trouble to get into the story because the names were so similar Mace and Slate, the same vowels, both monosyllabic. I often had to think about who was who. It is easier for me when the names differ like Kitt and Austin, Colt and Jace, Cody and Mitch which the author used in other books.
-the first chapter set 7 years ago left me puzzled, why do we meet a drunken Mace?
- there is not much going on. Slate wants to get Mace into his bed, Mace still suffers from a trauma of an accident, wrongful being hold responsible and having lost his beloved horse, is deep in the closet and dreaming of opening a sanctuary for maltreated horses. I was waiting for action to begin.
- interesting chapter in the middle: they visit Kitt and Austin who made their dreams come true. Mace and Slate listen and learn and on return slowly work towards opening a sanctuary.
- the security breach happens, but again we don't see the impact it has on the small village, Slate releases a statement and is fired from his TV-series.
-several inconsistencies and loose ends, a pet peeve of mine
- suddenly Slate has to count his pennies, in one of the first chapters I remember reading that he and his offsprings were set for life, what is it?
- the person responsible for the blackmail is never named just suspected, the investigation of Mace's accident is never really explained just the result, excuse and 2 Million dollars for the sanctuary. We learn nothing about the public's reaction to the excuse nor the name of the blackmailer.
- It is mentioned that Slate buys cattle for his vast pastures, what about foreman, stablehands, and barns?
- the epilogue is kind of boring, Slate is filming with Austin, Mace is hinting at inseminating a horse with the egg of his late Wildflower. Why not describe that process like the author did in Texas Pride with Kitt's breeding program and the detailed birth of a foal?

It is a bit overwhelming in the first chapters to get straight the names of Slate's five friends and his staff (5 names), Mace's family (4 names), and later Kitt, Austin and family.

If you enjoy spicy cowboy romance with instant attraction, plenty of chemistry, and a slow-burn emotional connection, then this is definitely one to check out.

Slade is a Hollywood actor who escapes to his Texas ranch whenever he has downtime. During his annual guys' trip, a liquor run in town leads him to Mason Sutton, and from the moment they meet, Slade decides he's going to get Mace into his bed. Used to people falling all over him, Slade is caught off guard when Mace refuses to give him the attention he expects and instead makes him work for it. I really enjoyed that push-and-pull dynamic between them, and their chemistry was undeniable from the start.

Mace was the more layered of the two characters. He's guarded, closeted, and still carrying the weight of past trauma. At first, he's only interested in a physical relationship, but the more time he spends with Slade, the harder it becomes to keep his emotions out of it. Even after he starts falling for him, Mace struggles to believe he belongs in Slade's glamorous Hollywood world, which creates plenty of emotional tension between them.

Where the book lost me a bit was in the pacing and overall structure. The story felt somewhat choppy, and the frequent time jumps made it difficult for the narrative to flow smoothly. A few plot points felt rushed or underdeveloped, and I found myself wanting more depth and clarity. Slade's decision to suddenly pull away near the end also felt a little abrupt and didn't quite line up with the character I'd come to know, which made it harder for me to fully connect with that part of the story.

Even with those issues, I still found this to be an entertaining read. The chemistry was strong, the spice delivered, and it was fun getting to see characters from the Texas Pride series again. While I think the story had the potential to be even stronger with a more cohesive structure and a little more development in certain areas, I still enjoyed my time with it and think fans of steamy cowboy romances will have a good time with this one.

I love this author and everything they write. Most I have in multiple formats as well so when I saw this was book 2 I reread book one and dove into this one. I have now read this one 3 times cause I would get side tracked with a character name... plus I did not want to leave the farm.

Mason is a cowboy in his soul, who used to run in the rodeo circuit. He had a fiance who was pregnant. and the horse of his heart, Wildflower. But on the way home from a rodeo he was involved in an accident with another vehicle and a group of cyclists along with his fiance and horse. Mason was the only one who survived and somehow he was blamed for the accident. It ruined him emotionally and his once good life was gone. Now he works in the family bar/liquor store, he does some woodworking and is building his own home. Mostly he drinks, works and drinks some more. Then he has a customer picking up an order and his life will never be the same again.

Slade is on his annual break from his hit character of Poseidon. Since he bought the property on the advice of another actor who lives nearby he looks forward to these few weeks every year. It starts with his childhood friends coming to town for a week and drinking and eating and just enjoying each other's company. Slade to the outside world is straight, his friends know the truth. Once a few show up they make the trip out for breakfast and to pick up what will hopefully be a week's worth of alcohol. But they have trouble finding the liquor store and once they do find it Slade is in awe of the man sweeping and then loading their car up with all their wares. While one of his buddies makes the first move, Slade is claiming Mason all for himself.

Will Mason allow himself some fun after all these years? Will Slade and his friends open their vacation to Mason joining in with them? Will Slade come out in public to spend time with Mason? Does Slade learn from Mason's brother in law about the accident? How fast will Slade be all in with whatever he can get from Mason? Will Mason agree to a relationship? Will the public find out that Slade is gay? Will he lose his job? Will Slade find a new outlet with Austin? Will Mason find his calling that he wanted all along?

I wish this book had another dozen chapters! I could continue to read about these two and their friends and family and business they are growing.

Kindle Alexander delivers a masterclass in hurt/comfort and opposites attract with Broken Pride.

With Mason's overwhelming grief and his journey to rebuild his life after a shattering tragedy, I was hooked, and it felt incredibly raw and grounded. The chemistry was there from the start, as was the contrast between Slade's carefully guarded high-profile lifestyle and Mason's quiet life on the ranch. This created a believable, intense romance, and I particularly loved how out of his depth Slade feels when Mason shows no interest in him at the beginning.

The hurt/comfort was also top tier, with Slade becoming a sanctuary for Mason, offering the right balance of emotional tenderness and healing.

As for the West Texas setting, it almost seemed like its own character, contrasting the peaceful countryside with the looming threat of the paparazzi.

Beyond the emotion, the spice perfectly reflects how deeply Slade and Mason connect physically as they recover emotionally.

So, if you love high-stakes secret romances, celebrity-cowboy dynamics, open-door heat, and deeply healing love stories, you'll absolutely devour Broken Pride.

My thanks to TAA for the chance to read an early copy of Broken Pride. All thoughts expressed are my own. 😊

It has been a hot minute since we got a new book from Kindle Alexander, and it was absolutely worth the wait. This book is incredible!

Slade, a famous Hollywood actor, spends his downtime in Texas. While out with friends looking for a liquor store, they end up finding something even better....Mace. The attraction to Mace is instant, and Slade wastes no time pursuing him.

Mace is still lost after everything he's been through. With Slade pursuing him so relentlessly, he decides, why not have some fun for a few months.
The missteps and clumsy moments between Slade and Mace had me laughing so hard it is spit your drink funny. Slade's friends were fantastic, especially Wyatt. Oh my goodness, Wyatt constantly teased Slade about winning Mace over, and I loved every minute of it.

Wyatt definitely needs his own story!

One final thought... I know this story takes place in Texas, but as an Italian, I completely cringed when Slade rinsed his spaghetti! 😂

This is absolutely a must read.

Slade + Mason

Broken Pride centers around movie star Slade and small town Mason. Mason has endured an unimaginable loss and he's pretty much closed off and quiet. Enter Slade... and he is just poking at Mason. & by poking I mean he just wants to get to know him and possibly be with him on an intimate level. Mason has a poker face and gives nothing away. Slade gives without being asked and honestly, these two are perfect for one another.

When you have a single defining moment that changes your course in life or the life you thought you'd have it changes you.. and Mason has been changed by it. Slade does a good job of being the quiet comfort for Mason. The kind of love that Mason needs but hadn't yearned for until Slade.

They both had some growing to do and honestly, I loved how both MCs had support in their decisions and had people to protect them. I cannot wait for the next story and I am hoping that Nico might be getting a book. :)

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.

Broken Pride is the second installment in the Texas Pride Series. While characters from the first book are present, this one can be read as a standalone.

I really enjoyed Slade and Mace's story. The characters are complex, the relationship takes its time to properly develop, and there is more to the story than the simple romance.

While the romance is central to the plot, themes of acceptance, especially in relation to living one's truth, and of getting back to happiness are what makes the story stand out.

This was a great journey in self discovery, self acceptance, and the power of love and affection. Overall, this was a great read, and I hope we'll get to see more stories set in this universe.

I fell hard for both Mason Sutton and Slade Whitaker in Broken Pride. These two men have lived very different lives, but have one big secret in common and have found something special together. The only sad part is they have both been living secret lives because they are afraid they won’t be excepted if they lived out loud. Mason is afraid of the small town gossip and Slade, being a public figure worries about how it will affect his career. However, the best part of their story is the love they found with one another that has given them the strength they needed and allowed them to come clean to live the life that makes them happy and brings them joy.

An emotional, swoon-worthy romance filled with raw emotion, vulnerability and hard-earned love.

This book completely swept me away. What started as a charming celebrity-meets-cowboy romance quickly became an emotional journey about grief, healing, identity, and finding the courage to love despite the risks.

Slade Whitaker may be a world-famous movie star, but beneath the fame and carefully crafted public image is a man longing for peace and authenticity. I loved seeing him step away from the chaos of Hollywood and find refuge on his Texas ranch. His vulnerability made him feel so much more than a celebrity; he felt real.

Mason Sutton captured my heart from the very beginning. After suffering an unimaginable loss, he's left trying to rebuild a life that no longer resembles the one he once knew. His pain, resilience, and quiet strength were beautifully written, and I found myself rooting for him every step of the way.

The connection between Slade and Mason felt natural and deeply emotional. Their relationship wasn't just about attraction; it was about finding comfort in someone who truly sees you. Watching them slowly lower their defenses and learn to trust each other was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. The hurt/comfort elements were especially well done, creating moments that tugged at my emotions and left me completely invested in their happiness.
I absolutely adored the way Slade and Mason's relationship evolved throughout the story. There was something incredibly sweet about watching Slade gently draw Mason out of his shell until he finally shared his dream of opening an animal shelter. What made it even more special was seeing Slade not only listen but actively help bring that dream to life. His love and support showed just how much he cared, making their journey together all the more heartfelt and unforgettable.

The small-town Texas setting added so much warmth and charm to the story. It provided the perfect backdrop for a romance built on stolen moments, genuine connection, and the hope of a future together. The tension surrounding their secret relationship kept me turning pages, wondering whether love could survive the pressures of fame, public scrutiny, and fear.

The supporting cast added so much depth and charm to the story. I especially enjoyed getting to know Mason's close-knit family and the loyal people in Slade's life, from his longtime friends to trusted members of his inner circle like Tommy and Nico. Each character felt well-developed and brought something meaningful to the overall story. They left me wanting to know more about their lives, and I'd love to see some of them get books of their own in the future. Wyatt, in particular, has definitely sparked my curiosity, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his story is next.
After all, we still need definitive proof of the blackmailer’s identity.

It's always a wonderful time being back in Texas with two sexy af men. Kindle Alexander does not disappoint in this second book in the Texas Pride Series, this time featuring Mace Sutton and Slade Whitaker. Two guys who live vastly different lives, yet from that first time their eyes met, I couldn't blame Slade for wanting to claim Mace in front of his crazy friends. And I'm happy to report that the very successful actor didn't waste any time trying his best to be the only man the loner cowboy would ever want.

The chemistry was electric whenever Mace and Slade were near one another. And although both thought their time together would be for sex only, there was no doubt to both of them and to reader, for that matter, that what they found was much more than simply physical attraction. Mace, with all of his baggage from what occurred in a horrific car accident years before, was truly a shell of what he once was. Loyal to a fault, the way he is always there for his family's business is something to be admired. And definitely showed Slade just how down-to-earth a man Mace was. The loneliness rolled off of Mace, with his pushy but adorable sister, always wanting more for him and the life he could and should still have. I felt for him and was thrilled that someone like Slade truly listened, even when Mace took his time to give him short answers to various random questions. He just had to convince his cowboy that, although the passion was unlike anything else he had ever experienced, it was Mace's soul that called out to him.

Both men are still in the closet, with Slade extremely hesitant to offend his midwestern fanbase. And Mace doesn't want to rock the boat with his close-knit family or his small town that rallied behind him when he was in the hospital after the accident. But they find the strength in what they found with one another and although they both have to walk on eggshells more than once before they lay their cards on the table for good, it's their unique bond that ultimately sees them through any obstacle that wants to threaten their happiness.

The steam is first-rate, as usual, since this author knows great sex. There are unexpected deep feelings that emerge even when Slade and Mace first agree to keep things casual. But, honestly, with how this author writes love, there was no doubt these two would and could work out anything that presented itself, no matter how much it might hurt. They are fantastic together and push one another when necessary while always knowing when the other needs them. Especially towards the end, when a surprise grand gesture had me smiling huge despite a huge lump in my throat.

Broken Pride is a great mix of love, lust and sweet humor that will undoubtedly make your day that much better. I am hopeful more is to come in this well-written series since Slade's friends were definite standouts and gave him the kick in the pants when needed. I also have to make mention of the way Kindle Alexander always gives us a glimpse of previous couples from prior books and I'm here to say I was beyond pleased a few favorites were back for a bit more fun.

When looking for a master of the m/m genre, look no further than Kindle Alexander. You'll fall hard for her words and will always be clamoring for more.

4 huge stars!

In this tender M&M romance, the author crafts a compelling story of opposites attracting, centered on Mace and Slade’s journey toward love and self-acceptance. Slade, a famous actor, and Mace, a quiet man working at his family’s small-town bar, come from very different worlds. Their chemistry ignites immediately, and through the highs and lows of their relationship, the plot explores themes of vulnerability, identity, and the extraordinary power of connection. This story earned our attention for its heartfelt emotions and richly developed characters, making it both engaging and memorable.

One of the book’s greatest strengths lies in its cast of vibrant, lovable characters. Mace’s reserved nature and guarded past contrast beautifully with Slade’s confident, somewhat possessive demeanor, creating a dynamic ripe for tension and growth. Slade’s genuine devotion is evident in how he affectionately calls Mace “my guy” or “my cowboy,” terms that never fail to bring a smile and add layers of charm. The families and friends surrounding the couple add warmth and humor, especially through witty banter and supportive camaraderie that feel authentic and enhance the story’s emotional depth.

What stood out most was the delicate handling of the characters’ vulnerabilities. Both men are not fully out, carrying personal secrets and pains that color their interactions and their world. This nuance gives the romance a realistic dimension rarely found in more conventional love stories. The plot doesn’t shy away from the difficulties that come with fame, past trauma, or coming to terms with one’s true self, making their eventual growth and mutual understanding all the more satisfying. The pacing allows us to witness significant transformations, not only in their relationship but in their individual journeys, emphasizing hope and resilience.

That said, the plot occasionally leans on some predictable romance tropes—instant attraction, possessive declarations, and protective instincts—that fans of the genre will appreciate but might feel familiar to others. However, these elements are balanced by the authentic emotional resonance and the subtle, tender moments of connection, giving the story a freshness that feels genuine rather than formulaic. Mace’s unique response to challenges adds a refreshing twist, diverging from what one might expect and keeping the reader invested.

This is a romance that will make readers both laugh and reach for a tissue, seamlessly blending lighthearted moments with deeply moving ones. The chemistry between Slade and Mace is electric, their obstacles relatable, and their growth inspiring. If you enjoy heartfelt stories of love that push beyond stereotypes, with strong supporting characters and emotional richness, this book is definitely worth your time. It reminds us that love isn’t always straightforward, but with patience and courage, it can be transformative.

Ultimately, this story invites reflection on what it means to truly see someone beyond their surface and to fight for love despite life’s challenges. It’s a celebration of finding your person in the most unexpected places—and doing so without losing yourself in the process. As you close the book, you might find yourself wondering: what secret parts of ourselves do we keep hidden, and who is brave enough to love them anyway?

Heading back to the Texas Pride series was like heading back home, into a warm hug from your family.

Broken Pride gives us everything we expect from a Kindle Alexander story.

Beautiful settings, men that we can't help falling for, a wonderful love - but also we hit harder, darker times as well.

Slade Whitaker is the movie start trying to set himself up with a quieter lifestyle - a la Austin in Texas Pride. Mason is the small town guy who has been hiding away for too long. I loved how Slade called "dibs" on Mace in front of his friends hahaha. Oh the way he was with Wyatt was funny.

Whilst Slade is trying to keep of the public eye because of his celebrity, my heart heart for Mace as we learn why he has become so insular with his life. He is the more complex of the pair, and I love how Slade slowly opens the door of the box Mace has built around himself.

I did find the pacing off a little bit in the middle, but that is probably just a me problem.

I adored seeing more of Austin and Kitt, the banter between Slade and his friends, and the family that Slade and Mace form around them, blood and found family.

I am hoping we get more in the Texas Pride series in the future.

Slade & Mace ... secrets & desires

Kindle Alexander has always been a favourite of mine when it comes to MM romances. Their stories always have emotional depth and wonderful characters. , Texas Pride #2, is another one of these stories. A small town, opposites attract, Holywood star/country cowboy, secret relationship romance which made me laugh, get teary eyed, become frustrated, and fall hard for two delicious men.

Slade whitaker loves ecaping to his Texas ranch, his home away from the hustle of the film world. Each summer his closest friends join him for a week of drinking, eating and man time. Only this time everythig changes for Salde. Mason "Mace" Sutton once had dreams of rodeo life, now he works in his family's business. He's a cowboy at heart, but the death of his pregnant fiance and his beloved horse in an accident have turned him into a broken man who hides from the world. Never did he think one customer would change his life.

The attraction between Slade and Mace is instant, lustful desires roll through them as soon as they see each other. Slade is a confident, take charge, protective, and possessive man, while Mace is quiet, a loner, emotionally broken, believing life was taken from him years ago. Both men are in the closet regarding their sexuality, Slade because of his career, Mace because he doesn't want the town to hate him even more than he believes they do. The pull to each other is undeniable. They share their emotions, vulnerabilities, passions, dreams, and secrets, but will they be able to share their lives? Their journey is filled with numerous hurdles, especially when a mysterious person threatens to expose their relationship.

BROKEN PRIDE is a heartfelt story from start to finish, I didn't want to put it down ... but adulting interferred. I adored slade and Mace and their many swoonworthy, heartfelt, and passionate moments. The secondary characters were incredible. Slade's friends, especially Wyatt, had me laughing out loud so many times, then there was Mace's family, his sister Lori was an absolute riot. I enjoyed the cameos from Austin and Kitt Texas Pride, and Dash Richmond Friction Gravity Series. Once again Kindle has captured my heart with a romance between two men who shouldn't fit together ... but they do.

I was so excited that Kindle Alexander decided to take us back to the Texas Pride world and Mace and Slade do not disappoint! These are two very different people, super famous actor and reclusive cowboy/bartender but when they meet there is an instant connection neither can deny despite both men being in the closet and definitely not looking for a relationship.

I really liked the chemistry/connection between Mace and Slade – they are hot for sure but they also quickly connect on a deeper level, something neither expected. Slade comes to Texas in the summer to escape his Hollywood life and expectations, it’s a place that he can relax, be his true self and hide away for a bit. Mace is living a part of a life, after an accident years ago left him a shell of who he once was or wanted to be. But these two together really bring the life and passion out in each other. They both start to open up to each other and it really brings Mace out and quickly they are falling hard for each other and making plans to build a life together.

I definitely liked these two together and was rooting for them, loving how they really became the best versions of themselves as their relationship developed. But even though their love is real and genuine it’s not the easiest journey for them. Both men are not out, Slade trying to protect his career and Mace more protecting himself, so their relationship is hidden for the most part. They seem to figuring things out but then someone threatens to expose them and it turns things upside down for them, well for Slade at least and it leads to some difficult times.

I really enjoyed how their story came together, I loved seeing how Mace was able to step up for Slade and their love. Overall, I enjoyed this book and their love story. It felt real and genuine and captured my heart. I also loved seeing Kitt and Austin again and their friendship with Slade and then Mace too. A great love story, a lot of feeling and passion without too much angst and a wonderful ending to make my heart happy!

MY OPINION: I am really glad I read the first book in this series because it added a little bit of back story to the interactions, but overall I think it stands fine on its own. You should read the first one, though, because it’s so good. Already excited about the next one.

Similar to book one, we have a very famous person and a country boy. We meet Slade, a wildly popular working actor who comes to Texas during his hiatus from the series he is in. Because of his career, he isn’t out, but that was a sacrifice he was willing to make. When he runs into Mace at the local bar/liquor store, everything changes for him.

These two men have a visceral attraction to each other. There is no doubt that they would end up in bed together no matter how hard Mace tried to avoid it. The thing was that Mace didn’t know how famous Slade was. He had his own demons, and keeping up with celebrities wasn’t something he cared about. He was too busy drinking and being unhappy.

None of that mattered to Slade because he wanted Mace and was determined. Starting with a good time between the sheets turned into feelings. Both of them are hiding that they are gay from everyone. But real feelings build, and they bring out the best in each other, softening the sharp edges, giving strength to each other.

This is a solid story of two men trying to find themselves, but can only do so if they find what they need in each other. There are a lot of great horse moments, plenty of emotion. Insecurities are a theme throughout, and a family/friends there to hold them together is a constant.

There is spice. Lots of it, but these two have something between them where spice is what underlines what they are doing, saying, planning. It’s a fun relationship, with a good amount of sass.

I loved this one as much as the first one. Pick it up for sure if you like a good rancher/cowboy story. Two great MCs with a lot to give the world, it takes them a hot minute to find their footing, but we do get our HEA.

This small-town romance follows actor Slade and local cowboy Mase, blending hidden identity, secret relationship, pining, and plenty of angst into a cozy small-town setting.

One of my favorite aspects of the story was the chemistry between Slade and Mase. From the very beginning, there was an undeniable spark between them, and I loved watching Slade navigate being completely out of his element. As someone used to attention and a it was entertaining to see him flustered by Mase's initial lack of interest, especially when his friends happily teased him about it. Their growing attraction, conflicted feelings, and evolving commitment to one another made for an engaging romance, and I enjoyed seeing how they brought out the best in each other.

The small-town atmosphere was another highlight. It had that cozy, comforting feel that makes you want to settle in with the characters. The story also included some hurt/comfort moments, heartfelt grand gestures, and enough drama to keep things interesting without overwhelming the romance. While there was spice throughout the book, it wasn't the primary focus, with the emotional connection taking center stage.

That said, I did struggle with the pacing and structure at times. The story often felt choppy, jumping quickly between events without always providing enough explanation or development. There were moments and plot points that seemed rushed or underexplored, leaving me wanting more depth and clarity. Some storylines also felt unresolved by the end, which made certain emotional payoffs feel less satisfying than they could have been.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read with likable characters, strong chemistry, and a charming small-town setting. While the story didn't fully deliver on all of its potential for me due to the pacing and unresolved elements, I still found myself invested in Slade and Mase's journey and appreciated the themes of love, vulnerability, and finding where you truly belong.

Another Absolute Masterpiece in the Texas Pride Series!

Kindle Alexander’s second book in the Texas Pride series is just as outstanding as the first (definitely pick up both if you haven’t started yet!). This is Mace and Slade's story, and they certainly have a rocky road ahead of them.

Slade is a highly successful actor, while Mace works for his family's bar/liquor store and is just trying to get by after a tragic accident left his life shattered. Looking for a place to unwind, Slade buys a ranch near his friends Austin and Kitt (from book 1). He travels back a few times a year just to relax and truly be himself, since he is still in the closet and fears his career wouldn't survive the exposure.

During one particular trip into town—looking for a liquor store his assistant phoned ahead to find—Slade ends up discovering far more than just his favorite drink. Working behind the bar is Mace, a man Slade instantly can’t take his eyes off of. From all appearances, no one in town knows Mace is gay, not even his closest friends or family, but to Slade, he is the most breathtaking man he’s ever seen. (Fun hint: Mace has absolutely no idea who the famous Slade actually is!)

From the moment they meet, the storyline takes readers on a beautiful, bumpy ride. Slade uses everything in his arsenal to convince Mace to give them a real shot. However, Mace is guarded by his own secrets (no spoilers here!) and a deep fear of how his family, friends, and the townsfolk will react.
Their journey is far from easy, but it is incredibly romantic and will leave you swooning the entire time. I can’t recommend this series enough—go grab it, you won't regret it!

2 Thumbs Up and 5 Stars

Some romances are built on longing. Others are built on timing.

Broken Pride felt like both.

Slade is a closeted Hollywood actor who escapes to a quiet Texas town during the off season to catch his breath and remember who he is outside the spotlight. There, he meets Mason—a man who's hiding just as much as Slade, though for very different reasons. While Slade has managed to hold onto the career he loves, Mason seems to have convinced himself that both love and happiness simply aren't meant for him.

The attraction between them is immediate, but what I loved most was that their relationship wasn't. This wasn't a whirlwind romance. It was a love that unfolded as the seasons changed—slowly, intentionally, and with the promise of something lasting.

By the time they were making plans for a future together, I believed every word of it.

The banter was sharp, the chemistry undeniable, and the steam absolutely delivered. But beneath all of that was a romance rooted in kindness, patience, and two men learning that they deserved more than the lives they'd settled for.

As a Texan, I also loved seeing the story set somewhere so familiar. There was something oddly comforting about recognizing pieces of home on the page.

My favorite moment perfectly captured the heart of this book:

"You saved me," I said...

"You saved me right back."

Simple. Earnest. Exactly the kind of love this story was building toward.

Verdict:
Tender, sexy, and deeply hopeful. A beautiful reminder that sometimes the right person doesn't just change your future—they help you believe you're allowed to have one.

If you love cowboy romances with plenty of chemistry, emotional healing, and characters who fall harder than they ever intended to, then Broken Pride is definitely worth picking up.

Slade may be a successful Hollywood actor, but when he's back at his Texas ranch, a chance encounter with local cowboy Mason Sutton changes everything. Used to people falling at his feet, Slade is completely thrown when Mace isn't impressed by his fame and makes him work for every bit of attention. I absolutely loved that dynamic between them.

While the attraction is immediate, it's Mason's story that really stole my heart. Still carrying the weight of a devastating tragedy from his past, he's built walls around himself and convinced himself that he's better off alone. Watching Slade slowly break through those walls with patience, understanding, and genuine care was incredibly rewarding.

The hurt/comfort in this book was top tier. Slade becomes a safe place for Mace, while Mace helps Slade see beyond the image he's spent years maintaining. Their relationship felt both passionate and deeply emotional, with neither man able to keep things casual for very long.

I also loved the Texas setting. The ranch, the small-town atmosphere, and the contrast between Mace's quiet life and Slade's celebrity status added so much depth to the story.

✨ Cowboy romance
✨ Celebrity x cowboy
✨ Hurt/comfort
✨ Small-town Texas
✨ Opposites attract
✨ Emotional healing
✨ Secret relationship

This was a wonderful mix of romance, emotion, humour, and heart. Slade and Mace were fantastic together, and I found myself rooting for them every step of the way.

My first from this author! I feel like it's been a long time coming :)

Mace and Slade's romance has a touch of instalust (I forget exactly how soon the two of them were getting busy in the back room of Mace's bar, but they didn't waste a lot of time beforehand) and a good deal of angst--they're both closeted for a good deal of the book--as well as a healthy amount of steam. They were good together, but kept getting in the way of their own HEA with their individual hangups.

Overall I liked the story--I will undoubtedly read more from the author in the future--but it didn't always flow well for me. The timeline was choppy at times--especially in the second half, when we had a lot of time jumps--and some things that were a pretty big deal (like the aftermath of Mace's accident, for one big example) were resolved without a lot of page time devoted to them. I also (and will fully admit this was probably just a me problem) kept losing track of whose POV we were in (and which secondary character was which, at times), which would momentarily take me out of the story for a minute. I honestly don't know what was going on there--like I said, undoubtedly a me problem, but it's one I don't often have so I'm not sure why I had it here specifically.

I did really love

This was the second book in the series but it worked fine as a standalone...though of course I've already got book 1 on my TBR.

Rating: 4 stars / B+

Broken Pride is book two in the Texas Pride Series but can absolutely be read as a standalone book. A wonderful story full of character growth, swoon worthy moments, soul searching and reaching for what you really want, sizzling chemistry and a love that is stronger than you imagine. Everything I have come to expect from a Kindle Alexander novel.

Slade was looking forward to the relaxation he always gets when he heads back to his haven in Texas while he is on his break between shootings. Life as a gay man in a world where eyes are always looking is very hard. He never expected to find the one man he can't even think about not having in his life.

Mace has spend the past few years trying to rebuild himself and strip the guilt he was left with after the accident. Not doing to good of a job either. Feeling stuck in a cycle as he works at his family business. Living in the small town where everyone knows your business it is hard to find new people and move forward. When pushed toward Slade and his buddies by his sister, he feels completely out of his element.

Can these two opposites find a way forward together. Could it be finding the right person makes it easier to find your way out to the open. Be dammed the consequence.

I was pulled in from the beginning and fell fast and hard for the characters, the side characters adding a great level of humor. Grab your copy and enjoy.

Kindle write a very good cowboy romance. Coming off of reading Texas Pride, Broken Pride has a similar premise with a celebrity basically hiding out in the wilds of Texas and finding his perfect match in someone who isn't out. Slade is instantly attracted to Mace, but Mace has no intention on being with anyone, struggling just to get through his days, still living with grief of an event that happened several years ago.
Slade is not one to be deterred, however, and breaks down Mace's walls, but everything is still in secret. Neither man is out, and Slade is quite a big name in Hollywood. Mace's family seems to be a conundrum - they don't know but his sister definitely hints at things. Slade is friends with Austin (Texas Pride) and so they have confidants nearby who may also be able to lend a hand with both men's future's. Something that Mace hadn't thought possible, but he hadn't bet on Slade's persistance or stubbornness.
It's a wonderful romance to read as they find their way to their HEA. Slade did confuse me slightly towards the end as he acts completely opposite to what he had done but pressure and your own mind can be a hard battle to face. It's a great community that they have around them and another great read from Kindle Alexander.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarain, I was gifted my copy of this book.

It's been a long LONG time since I read a Kindle Alexander book, and I feel torn about this one.

I liked the plot, it runs a similar one to Texas Pride, book one in this series.

Mace and Slade have chemistry, powerful chemistry, that burns bright and hot throughout the book, even when they are seperated. But I found the emotional connection lacking a bit. I thought Slade knida railroaded Mason into doing what he wanted, rather than talking it out. I get Slade has so much more to lose by keeping things quiet, but I still felt (all the feelings on this one!) Slade could have backed off a little bit, at some points.

It does feel choppy at points as well. Some things were thrown in, and not fully explained before moving on. Little disconnected in places.

I dunno if it's a "me, not you" thing, or what, but I wanted so bad to love this, but I couldn't and I'm sorry for that.

I did like Mason's family and how they all reacted to the news. Slade's group of friends were close, and supportive, while ribbing and joking about everything.

I did love that we caught up with Kitt and Austin from Texas Pride. They play a large part but you don't need to have read their book for this one to make sense. Dash Richmond plays a part too. His name was ringing bells so I went to look, but his book is Friction and I've not read that one. I might go back and read it now, he intrigued me!

A good read, hitting 3.5 stars

Another great release from Kindle Alexander in the Texas Pride series.
Broken Pride features Slade and Mason. Slade, a star in the movie world and on a break at his secret home. Slade meets Mason on a beer run into town with his bros and is instantly smitten But being both in the closet and currently trying to hide his appearance from the locals, it's a tricky situation.

Mason, hiding from life in his families bar, also in the closet and wracked with survivors guilt, barely makes it through day with his sanity still in tact. He can't understand why this beautiful stranger seems determined to crack him wide open and as terrified as he is, he wants it so badly.

The way Slade brings Mason back to life will get you all up in your feels, but prying eyes threaten to pop their perfect bubble and drastic measure are taken before both their lives implode.

I love the opposites attract vibe of both the books in this series and am desperately hoping there will be more to come. The writing style and balance between plot and exceptional spice is perfect 🌶️🔥 Both books keep you totally engaged from the start and what more could you want!

Another amazing MM read from the Kindle Alexander writing duo. I was thrilled to be back in Texas with another cowboy romance as Texas Pride is a favorite of mine. You do NOT need to read Texas Pride first to read this novel but you really should read it... because it's amazing too.

Broken Pride is the love story of Slade, a famous actor coming back to his Texas roots for a bit of time away from the spotlight, and Mace, the cowboy who is fiercely loyal to his family and the family businesses (though his passion is animal husbandry and especially horses). The two are both closeted and have significant reservations about coming out. Slade must deal with his fame while Mace has a closet of skeletons and unresolved trauma. The sexual tension builds until it explodes. When I say these guys are hot, I mean the spice is off the charts between them. BUT does that mean they can be a couple? Will they come out or are they unwillingly outed? What about the huge separation of distance/time apart? All questions are answered in this amazing, sweet, and steamy MM cowboy romance.

I enjoyed the chemistry between Mace and Slade; the sexy time was HOT! This was a nice meaty read with a lot of things going on. Mace and Slade are both gay but neither of them is out. Slade is a well-known actor and feels like his middle-class fans won’t accept him being gay. Mace is also concerned about coming out so this is a great double coming out story.

I was totally onboard with everything happening in this book until the last chapter (which I consider more of an epilogue since it takes place one year later). I’m not sure why but the last chapter confused me a lot. Maybe there was an inside joke that I missed where Mace was supposed to be playing a joke on Austin? Anyway, until that point it was five stars for me.

To end on a completely positive note I enjoyed reading Broken Pride and I enjoyed the cameo appearances by other Kindle Alexander characters.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
