Good start. Young mains, well possibly young adult and their conversation gives a flavour of that without like being every third word.
Can’t believe I got emotional at the 5k!
I wouldn't usually choose new adult and can't say how authentic the mains were but they felt real to me. I can say their speech patterns didn't irritate so that's good.
I like Root's turn of phrase and as expected there were some lol lines. This is a to be continued but could be left as a happy for now novel but I look forward to reading more. 3.5 rounded up because of the 5K.

I don’t really read YA/NA anymore, but it’s the first book of a trilogy following Eden and Sloane through the years, and you have to start at the beginning. That being said, I REALLY enjoyed this much more than I thought I would…I should have known since Alyson wrote it.
I can’t wait to read book two!

Eden is the school’s anti-exercise queen. She finds every excuse not to take a full part in the gym class, doing the minimum to not get into trouble. At seventeen years old, her talent is art, being one of the best artists in Holbrook school. Three years previously the family moved from the UK to Colorado, and since joining the school, Eden has had a crush on the openly gay Cheerleading Captain, Sloane, but thinks she is way out of her league.
Sloane is the best cheer captain the school has had, and she knows that. But since the very quiet and nerdy Eden joined the school, she has had a crush on her. Many other girls have asked her out, including the forceful soccer captain Kiera, but Sloane has rejected them all, trying to gather enough courage to ask Eden.
When Sloane is tasked with getting Eden to take more part in gym class, it is the catalyst that pushes them together, and slowly unites their friend groups too.
This is a lovely coming-of-age story, both Sloane and Eden are lovely people, as are most of their friends too. There is the mandatory house party, the drunk students, and a summer of love, but in a surprisingly low angst story. The school is a good environment, better than most, with a relaxed attitude to same sex relationships, and both girls’ families are positive about everything.
Normally I don’t like stories that span several books, but this one has a very good ‘happy for now’ ending, as they both go off to college. With the next book in the series due soon, it’s really one I would love to read, but I will be expecting more angst.

Eden, a transplant from the UK, quiet punk artist, who hates exercise with a passion has been teamed up with Sloane by the gym teacher…. Two cruel situations as far as Eden is concerned!
Sloane, pure sunshine, has her life in order, jumps at the chance to help Eden pass gym!
When she puts forward the idea that they walk to school each morning, she soon finds herself even more captivated by the grumpy Brit, who has a pout that makes her swoon!
Sloane manages to coax Eden out of her shell without being too pushy. Although, to be fair, Eden can’t seem to say NO to her.
Eden slowly learns to enjoy exercise, mainly because she gets time alone with Sloane.
As we watch them navigate their way through the last year of school & parties, the story also centres around the fact they’ll both be going off to college, do they take the chance on dating and seeing where their relationship will go? Or stop it in its tracks.
Soon enough the whole school becomes invested in Eden's new healthier lifestyle and suddenly we have a charity 5k to train for!
We get some of the BEST BFFs in this series and I don’t mean that lightly…. Pink hair devil Bella is probably my fav, but Pia comes a close second lol.
We also got topics of anxiety, and burnout.
I loved the fact both sets of parents are super supportive and open with their kids!
Just like they should be.
All in all, this is my favourite book so far from Alyson!

This was enjoyable enough, but there isn't much conflict, and the bit there is stays off-stage for most of the book, and so it really does feel like a romance book on easy mode, but not because it's trying to be cozy. It is always a bit strange to me when we have YA romances with explicit sex scenes, but overall a fairly decent, high school love story that will most certainly be completely out of mind for me a day or so later because nothing really stands out or sparks.

I’ll be honest, the only reason this isn’t five stars is because of my expectations. Here’s the thing: it’s a NA book, really right in that YA age range of 17-18. And the characters are Just. So. Mature. They have feelings, they say so. They want to date somebody, they just ask them on a date. They have great and open relationships with their parents. When they have issues with anybody, they talk through them. Somebody makes trouble, they de-escalate. One time they even dig down to find the root of the person’s issue and resolve it, totally turning the person’s attitude around.
And in some sense, all that is wonderful! Fantastic! Why can’t more main characters be like that?!? No secrets or miscommunications or assumptions biting them in the ass.
But it just doesn’t feel right for YA/NA to me. Not that no teenager is allowed to be mature, but I feel like the core principle of YA/NA books is that the characters are emotionally immature and make unforced errors and blow things way out of proportion and aggravate every small slight and so on. So this ended up feeling a little like a pair of 40-year-old souls inserted into high school bodies.
If I could convince myself it was just a regular love story, like I said, easy five stars. But for all my enjoyment, my mind is still screaming in the background that something just doesn’t fit here. And that’s on me, but also, it is what it is.
Anyway, I’m still invested in the story and looking forward to (I presume) the college years in the next installment.

Eden Sawyer is a average student with one problem: she hates gym and does the bare minimum. Mr Porter, the teacher, has a solution, pair her up with cheerleader Sloane Bishop and threaten to flunk Sloane if she doesn't improve. Eden is 90% sure its bull, but what if he does?
It IS actually bull, as Sloane has been interested in Eden forever, but because she's a cheerleader and Eden is kinda grunge they never talked. Now she's hoping to use this to get to know her and, eventually, ask her out.
(Sloane's Mom and Dad are not only pro LGBTQIA, but are aware of the crush and ship them. Its adorable.)
Eden reluctantly agrees to let Sloane train her to eventually do a five K run, in exchange for Sloane doing art with her. Sloane's friend group also reaches out to her...
(Dragging Eden to a all night party with lots of drunk teens and not telling her in advance is kind of a dick move.)
Eden saves a drunken Sloane from Kiera and they sleep together platonically. Sloane asks her out officially, Eden accepts.
Training, dating, and school drama follow. They fo the 5 k, and Kiera trips Eden, but she still finishes.
3.5 stars, looking forward to book two.

This is a lovely read filled with yearning and young love. It was beautifully written and I cannot wait to read more!
The story follows Sloane and Eden who are two polar opposite students. Sloane is cheerleading captain and Eden actively avoids exercise. They get paired together in their gym class and sparks fly.
This book felt like a real representation of young people navigating their sexuality and first love and I just adored it. It’s refreshing. Also, as someone who struggles with exercise due to health conditions, it felt realistic and gives me hope and makes me want to go for a walk 😂
I’m excited to see where this series takes us. I am ready to follow Sloane and Edens journey even further!
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a beautifully written sapphic read that’ll have you kicking your feet and giggling!

Walk with me is the first part of The Love in Motion series, but the books are written in such a way that they don't lose their charm if you read them in a jumble, because... well, Alyson Root knows how 😉. The series follows the adventures of two soulmates from high school to college and beyond. What I like about the plot is that it presents the stages of a very real relationship and the problems of some very real fictional people, with very real emotion all sprinkled with humor... Plenty. I guarantee you won't get bored with this pack of friends and their families by blood, fate and choice.
Sloane and Eden overcome their obstacles and grow before your eyes. Beautiful, sad, funny, cruel, tender and passionate - Alyson doesn't leave a blank page, she draws it in colour, sweat, tears and funny noises. My advice - jump headfirst into their world. Part 3 is lurking around the corner so get ready now 😁

This was my first new adult sapphic read and I absolutely loved it, it took me back years (don’t judge) 🫣.
That feeling of trying to navigate emotions, wondering what’s expected of you, and never quite knowing when the right time is for anything intimate or to say something.
Walk With Me by Alyson Root gave me all the beautiful reminders of how it all started!
It’s the kind of story that brings back those first-crush feelings, the lingering glances, the accidental touches, the chemistry you’re trying to understand and the way your heart races over the smallest moments. Freezing in front of that first crush, losing the words on your tongue because gosh how can I ever dream of speaking to her!
Another thing that stands out is how supportive their parents are, such a beautiful thing to witness!
I loved it, now @a.root_author how long before we see the entire series because how can I not want to see where Eden and Sloane end up? 📸📚

I'm not usually a fan of YA/NA type stuff but I loved this.
A grumpy British teen in an American school having to work with the friendly, American cheer leader in class - was actually fun to read. Mind you - I don't remember being as emotionally mature and communicative at their age. My wife will probably tell you I still have not achieved it.
There are of course miscommunications - but they figure them out and discuss them - as they understand that they are not experienced in life and need to figure out stuff.
Modern parenting would not have suited me as a teenager - I would have died on the spot if my parents had needed to take my sister out for ice cream at 11pm!
In short, I loved this book, it kept me engaged, made me laugh and it is the beginning of a new series - so there will be more.

I love when a book surprises me and this was no exception. I don’t normally read new adult books but I’m so glad this one found its way to me! Sloane and Eden’s romance is so sweet and was like escaping into a fairytale. The author did an amazing job giving each character in this group of friends their own personality and quirks and it was fun to get lost in their world for a little while.
I love how Eden really found more of herself throughout this story, and really is an excellent partner for Sloane. I also loved that while Sloane is the one who is supposed to have it all “together” in her school, she struggles with anxiety and I think the way the author addressed that was done very well. Great book with fun characters, supportive parents, and a sweet sapphic romance. Looking forward to book 2!

First love
What a refreshing book! Young romance books are often about the same subject: coming out, family drama, or high school drama. But this one is really just about 2 people having a mutual crush and going out of their comfort zone to be theirs first love.
It is absolutely adorable, theirs every inner thought, gay panic, and overthinking. Sloane and Eden both have the best family and friends. They were hilarious and heartwarming.
Totally recommend! And I'm eager to see the next book in the series

Walk With Me was my very first New Adult read, and honestly, it was exactly what my reading mood needed. 💙 Funny, warm, sweet, and full of heart, Alyson Root has created two characters who are impossible not to root for! Their chemistry felt genuine, the banter kept me smiling, and the romance unfolded at just the right pace to leave me completely invested.
Beautifully written and packed with charm, this was such a cute listen from start to finish. It left me with that lovely feeling of not wanting to say goodbye just yet, and I can’t wait to see where Eden and Sloane’s story goes next! 🫶🏼

Hoorah for this very nice YA first love for high school seniors Sloane and Eden. I love love. I have to admit I'm of an age that made being different hard. So I moon over all the young lovers with accepting parents and ability to live out their true lives. I gotta say all these well put together words made me smile. I heartily give 4 stop watch stars. This was good, but a little too cringe for me once the MCs got together (which was fairly quick). Considering the title and summary, I had hoped we’d get to see a little more of the girls getting to know each other on their walks.
Why was the entire school so invested in Eden’s exercising journey? And why were the girls so comfortable letting their parents know when they were having sex? Maybe the author was trying to show a healthy relationship with the parents, but it just weirded me out.

I really enjoy Alyson Root’s stories. This story is sweet with low angst main characters and a delightful supporting crew of friends and family. Looking forward to the next instalment.
