Parents work hard to protect their children from danger. But are we helping to guard them in the spiritual battle that already rages around them?
Whether he consciously takes sides or not, every person is in the middle of spiritual warfare. None of us can choose to sit on the sidelines and even our children are not exempt! So rather than trying to shield them from the very real war around them, why not equip them, as early as possible, to take an active role and fight back?
Sally Michael provides the framework for parents to train their children in the fight of faith. In this full-color, illustrated "battle plan," she uses the gospel message to introduce children to the state of their hearts, then awakens them to the many battlegrounds that surround us both from our own sinful hearts and from the enemy’s attacks. She then encourages children to be fighters, giving them a biblical battle strategy to depend on God, resist the enemy, and stand strong!
Sally is a co-founder of Truth78 and has authored curricula and books that are all marked by a passion for developing God-centered resources for the spiritual development of children. For 16 years, Sally served as Minister for Children at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, under the leadership of John Piper and her husband, David. Sally and David live in Indianapolis where they serve families at College Park Church. They enjoy spending time with their daughter Kristi, daughter Amy and her husband Gary, and three grandchildren.
My favorite of this series so far. It's on persevering in the faith, and was of definite interest to the boys as this is how to "fight" to keep the faith. I think plenty of adults could find this book helpful too, though it's written at a kid's level, the concepts are what all of us struggle with. The majority of verbal illustrations to make it more relatable to children was really good, very appropriate and understandable for the elementary age set, and yet impressed me with demonstrating a concept in a way I'd not heard before--and I've read, heard, led plenty of kids' Bible story times.
This is my second book by Sally Michael and once again I am thoroughly impressed. I would recommend this and will probably hang on to it to help me prepare for children's Bible lessons in the future.
