Blossom Peak #3

Test of Time

Rate this book
Falling for the single dad next door wasn’t part of my plan when I moved to Blossom Peak.

I accepted the teaching job for a fresh start, far away from the controlling ex I left behind.

But Rhonan Hart is everything you could ask for in a man. Strong, dependable, helpful, an amazing father to his daughter, Ellis… and looks beyond sinful in his sheriff’s uniform.

Except his daughter is my student, and he’s determined to pretend like our connection doesn’t exist.

(I’m determined to pretend he didn’t see me naked when my shower blew up, and he tried to save me.)

But soon, he’s sneaking over to my house at night—warming my bed, tearing down his walls, and making me want something I knew I couldn’t have.

My life is a mess, one I’m still trying to clean up.

But this man and his child give me a glimpse of a future I want, no matter what the cost.

Just when I think I’m on the path to moving on, fate decides to give us the test of time.

I just hope this is a test we both survive.

I fully lost myself in this one.

Rhonan and Vienna pulled me in right away, and that chaotic first meeting set the tone perfectly. Add in the neighbor and daughter’s teacher dynamic, and the tension builds so naturally. They’re both carrying grief and complicated pasts, but the way they slowly open up and find comfort in each other felt really genuine.

Rhonan is such a standout single dad, protective and a little guarded, but completely soft when it comes to Ellis, who easily steals the show. Vienna brings so much warmth, even while dealing with her own struggles, and watching her settle into their lives felt effortless in the best way. The slow burn, the banter, and the found family vibes make everything feel cozy while still hitting those emotional moments.

There’s a great balance of sweetness, spice, and a touch of suspense that keeps things engaging without taking away from the romance. It’s heartfelt, easy to get invested in, and leaves you with that satisfied, slightly emotional feeling by the end.

It’s the kind of story that leaves you feeling really content, and I’m really looking forward to what comes next.

Huge thank you to Harlow James & The Smuthood for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨

2.5. I was sooooo close to DNF this book because it has two of my least favorite tropes- dead wife and cheating. 😩
(Possible spoilers ahead) I skimmed.

so…the cheating is because h is married to a senator. He’s not a nice guy. Emotionally abusive and controlling. She leaves him and assumes a fake name. She does file for divorce, BUT she is still married throughout this whole book. Yes, she has smex with H multiple times. He does NOT find out she’s married until 88% in. He’s like 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ “You’re mine” so he’s okay with it.

H is a cop. His beloved wife died 5 years ago during childbirth. During those 5 years, he’s only had 2 ONS but he felt guilty afterwards. Sarah (dead wife) her name is only said 38 times by a quick count from kindle.

The first half of this book is H letting go of his dead wife and connecting with h aka eventually having smex (he does have a filthy mouth)
The second half is the showdown with the husband. He’s insane and kidnaps h and H’s kid. (I don’t understand why they decided to walk around the neighborhood when she knew she was probably being stalked? TSTL)
It’s quickly resolved. H had a tracking device in his kid’s bracelet.

I did LOL that H ONLY aimed and shot the husband in the leg. I thought cops aimed for ☠️?
h jumped in front of her husband’s bullet aimed at the kid. h was shot. She survived.
At the hospital, H/h found out they were pregnant.

The next book will be Elliot and Dilyanne (ugh such a terrible name. Dylan or Dilly Anne? 🤦‍♀️) Tori, Elliot’s cheating ex from the first book is back, so Elliot and Dilyanne pretend to be engaged. Okayyyyyy.

The characters were written so realistic. I loved that they were a little older and that they weren't perfect people. They had personalities that pull you in and make you want both of them in your life. The two narrators were superb too! They made the story just fly by. Oh and the ending?! Yes please, I now need the next book!

Rhonan was such a great dad to his little girl and I loved his bond with not only his family but his friends. When Vienna came into the picture, she had an instant girl gang and the chemistry was palpable with Rhonan. I loved that she didn't take any crap from him, painted rocks with Ellis, baked cupcakes for her friends birthday that passed, had a wild puppy, and more. The cast was just 🤌🏽.

The only flaw I can find (and it's seriously a me problem, not a book problem), is that I felt like the dirty talk just didn't match the tempo to the scene. Like a bit forced or fake? I don't know, but it was def a me thing....because they are fire together.

Test of Time is the 3rd book in the Blossom Peak series, and the first book I’ve listened to from it. Vienna has made her way to Blossom Peak trying to hide and start a new life away from her abusive ex. So after adopting a puppy, finding a teaching job at an elementary school, and securing a nice house to rent, she is doing pretty well for herself. Roman is a widowed single father who is still haunted by his wife’s death and too busy working and raising a child to think about dating, but a chance encounter with the clumsy new blonde girl at the local bar has made him take notice 👀

The romance was a semi slow burn since both of them weren’t ready to start a relationship, but they gave in fairly quick to their feelings 😂 I adored the friendships between the guys and the way the girls welcomed Vienna into their little girl group 🥰 The relationship Vienna had with Rowan’s daughter Ellis was so sweet and something both of them needed in their lives.

The audiobook was duet narrated by Aiden Snow and Ava Erickson, and both of them were perfect choices for their characters. I enjoyed this story of new beginnings in the small town of Blossom Peak and want to check out the other books in this series ❤️

Thank you so much to Harlow James and The Smuthood for this ARC! I have been waiting for Rhonan’s story since we met him in All This Time and let me tell you that the wait was definitely worth it. From the prologue I was completely HOOKED and needed to know what was going to happen! This story was so sweet & swoony while also being so spicy. I absolutely loved the single dad aspect of it and of course the found family with all the witty banter. I was not expecting there to be suspense in this story, but it had me on the edge of my seat at times.

I absolutely adored Rhonan and Vienna from the beginning. Their meet cute was great and I also love how they met the second time. You could feel their chemistry from the start and then to find out that she is his daughter’s teacher AND their neighbor… It doesn’t get much better than that. They were both dealing with grief, but they were able to help each other with that and Vienna fit into their lives perfectly right away.

Rhonan is a top-tier single dad MMC who has the sweetest relationship with his daughter, Ellis. He was so protective of her, and you could tell he would do absolutely anything for her. Vienna was the perfect FMC for him. She was a ray of sunshine (while also dealing with her own struggles) but was so great with Ellis and even Rhonan when he was a grump.

I love how close Vienna became with the other girls of this series. After her best friend passed away, she needed a really good support system, and they were perfect for her.

And of course, Ellis was the cutest little five-year-old. She had such a sweet relationship with her dad and then with Vienna. And I loved seeing her interact with all her aunts & uncles.

This was such a fun read and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

The audio was fantastic and the story was Harlow James perfection. Test Of Time packs an emotional punch, but does it with grace, humor, love and spice. This story adds to the Blossom Peak series and is Lainey’s brother’s story, Rhonan Hart. Healing from losing his wife, he thought he was destined to a life of solitude that consisted of work and raising his daughter Ellis. When Elliot convinces him to a night out at the Charming Bull, everything changes. He keeps bumping into Vienna, who, somehow keeps ending up on the floor in funny ways. She is the first connection he’s felt in years. But afterwards, he is left ghosted and disappointed, until he finds out she is his new neighbor. And oh boy do the sparks fly! Do yourself a favor and grab this book from Harlow James!

I both read and listened to this one, and the duet‑style audio worked so well, it just made the whole story feel a bit more real.

Rhonan is a widowed sheriff doing his best for his daughter, and Vienna is the new neighbour trying to start fresh… with a very chaotic puppy causing problems along the way. She also ends up being Ellis’ new teacher, which adds a really sweet layer to the story and brings them into each other’s lives even more.

Their connection builds quite quietly, which I really liked. They keep getting pulled into each other’s orbit, and it all feels very natural. There’s that underlying tension from him holding back and her trying not to overstep, but the chemistry is there from the start.

One of my favourite parts was Rhonan with his daughter.

There’s also a touch of suspense that comes in later on. The final conflict felt slightly rushed for me, but it didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed the rest.

Overall, I had a really nice time with this one.

Is there anything better than two people who've been knocked around by life, finding love again?

I think not.

Book three in the Blossom Peak series, follows single dad (and cop) Rhonan and substitute teacher Vienna. After meeting at a bar, Rhonan doesn't think he'd ever see the woman who woke him up (he hasn't been attracted to anyone since his wife passed! Big deal!) after she ghosted him. But guess what! She's teaching his daughter for a few months AND is his new neighbor!

Vienna has been hurt by life too. She's trying to make a new start in a new town. To see how brave she is after everything she's gone through...

When Vienna's past rears its ugliness, Rhonan is there to save the day. Or is he?

The friend group is there, still awesome, still thriving. Well... some are. I'm telling you all right now, book 4 is going to be explosive. If its about the couple I think its going to be.

I might have mentioned Rhonan is a single dad? Whew. Is he. Theres no trait better in a single dad romance than one whos loving and being the best dad ever. Swoon worthy he is.

I was so ready for Rhonan to get a happy ending in these past two books. I just KNEW I was going to enjoy every second.

As my first Harlow James book, I can say that I am now seeing what all the hype was. Like wow! It had attraction, found family banter, times I was laughing out loud, swoony moments, heart warming ones too, and enough drama/intense moments where it kept you on your toes. I read this book so fast that I was sad it ended.

I very much loved these characters. Every single one had their unique personality that shined through every page. Rhonan was the perfect gentleman, and the ultimate dad. Being in law enforcement, he was protective and strong. He was fighting his own fear of having those he loves die prematurely, that he was blinded when he caught sight of Vienna one night at a bar. Vienna may be the kind, bubbly, new in town resident, but she was running from her own past. After a night of flirting, just when walls were coming down, Vienna ghosts Rhonan thinking she’d never see him again. Turns out, fate has other plans. Vienna is Rhonan’s daughter, Ellis, new substitute teacher and neighbor. Putting that night at the bar behind them, ignoring the attraction they both share towards each other, they try to keep things friendly. But eventually that attraction and pull wins out. Rhonan has to either accept his fears, or ignore that feeling in his gut that Vienna may be “the one”. And Vienna has to figure out how to keep her past from catching up with her.

These two have some super hot chemistry that you definitely get caught up in. You can feel the tension and the undeniable pull they have. Even their friends and family can sense that these two are just meant to be together. And it definitely is a plus that Ellis is a huge fan of Vienna. She’s a natural with Rhonan’s daughter.

The found family in this book is perfect. The banter these friends have with each other was hilarious. I fish myself laughing out loud multiple times. Truly felt natural.

I definitely will be reading the first two books from this series. This was the third book, and i read it as a standalone. It does give hints at what the next book will be and background of what the previous ones have been.

This was an ARC read for me, and these are my honest opinions.

🌶️🌶️.5

Harlow James has become one of my favorite authors because she just delivers sweet, small town, feel good romances. Test of Time was another adorable romance with so many heartfelt moments.

Rhonan's wife tragically died during childbirth 5 years ago and he has been determined to be the best father to his adorable daughter Ellis. One night he meets a gorgeous woman at a bar and sparks fly, but she disappears on him. She was the first woman he has felt a connection to since his wife, so he was really thrown off when he realized that same woman is his daughter's new teacher and neighbor.

Vienna is trying to find a fresh start in Blossom Peak after leaving an emotionally abusive relationship. She feels so much for Rhonan even though he tried to build walls between them and be the typical grumpy single dad. However, he can't fight his feelings, especially when he sees what a caring woman Vienna is. She was so good with his daughter and they made such a perfect family unit.

This was kind of a slow burn, but it felt perfect with the development of their relationship. I was so happy when Rhonan gets it together and goes all in with her.

Side note: I love her naughty German Shepherd puppy and all the side characters.

A fantastic addition to the Blossom Peak series, and probably the best book from Harlow James to date. Rhonan and Vienna give us a story that I could not put down, sneaking in a chapter here and there when I am supposed to be working!

I love that they meet when Rhonan is supposed to be Elliott's wing man. (love that chapter title). The chemistry is instant, and they do keep running into each other after. Rhonan is a single dad, and I love Ellis, he is one of the best dad’s written.

Vienna is new to Blossom Creek, and could be my best friend. A little wrong place, right time, or wrong time, right place. First meeting at the bar, hot neighbor, or daughters new teacher.

Rhonan is a widow, heart is guarded, and single dad. He is still healing, but Vienna does spark some long buried feelings.

This story is a fun read, add in the suspense and I was hooked. I cannot wait to get back to Blossom Creek.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Oh my gosh!!! I freaking loved Vienna, Rhonan and Ellis!! I really enjoyed how Harlow had Rhonan and Vienna meeting and then the realization of Vienna being Ellis's teacher but their neighbor was probably my favorite part. The easy banter that they had, the grumpyness that was Rhonan and Vienna not taking his crap. Everything in the book had my heart! I had this book devoured in a matter of hours!! This couple truly has been special! I can't praise this book enough!

I loved this one! This was a swoony, sweet, yet deliciously spicy smalltown, single dad romance, full of witty banter, emotion, and some added suspense!

I absolutely fell in love with Vienna & Rhonan from the start! These two had chemistry off the charts & the next door neighbor, daughters teacher aspect made this one such a fun one.

Both of these characters are dealing with a jaded past & grief, while try to navigate their current lives. This one was an emotional rollercoaster, but my heart was so full with this story.

Rhonan is a top tier single dad MMC who has the sweetest & most protective relationship with his daughter Ellis. Vienna is just a sunshine FMC, who even though she’s battling her own struggles, brings so much joy to this story!

I fell so in love with this story, this family/friend group, and all of the characters. This one had me laughing, swooning, and feeling so many emotions!! I absolutely cannot wait to see what comes next from this series!!

I opened this book for the hot single dad sheriff and stayed for the emotional damage. Because why not?

Rhonan is broody, stubborn, and one bad decision away from ruining my life—in a good way. Vienna’s just trying to start over, but instead she gets him as a neighbor, her student’s dad, and a whole lot of bad ideas.

What really got me though was the emotional depth—grief, healing, second chances—it all hits without dragging the story down. Plus, the small-town vibes and found family moments? So good! They really made the story! 🩷

4⭐️ — would 100% ignore my better judgment for this man.

Overall, a good storyline. All of the characters flowed together well and were likable. The story was never boring but once we got to the conflict, it felt rushed. I would’ve liked to see more happen there than just a few short pages of it but it didn’t spoil the rest of the story for me. This was my first Harlow James book but definitely not the last!

ARC/ALC Review

What to say … What to say … Well, for starters, whatever should be said should have been said almost TEN days ago but I am ridiculous so here we are …

I LOVED THIS STORY! It’s actually embarrassing how much love I have for these characters and their journey! I mean they are not real people yet … I felt them and this story from the very beginning! It was really quite an immersive experience for me! It’s possible that 🎧listening🎧 to the story helped in that respect and I didn’t get to read it on its own so I can’t say for sure that audio is the absolute way to go but mayyyyyyyyybe! LOL 🎤Aiden Snow and Ava Erickson🎤 outperformed even themselves with this one, in my humble opinion. I can’t think of a better person than Aiden to bring to life our Sheriff or a better person to capture our sassy Teacher than Ava. These two had me listening for a ridiculous amount of time straight and into the wee hours of the night! It was perfect casting!

The story of Rhonan, Vienna and sweet little Ellis was sexy and flirty, entertaining and captivating, suspenseful and a little mysterious. It was a perfect blend of all the things, and I was hooked from the prologue! Speaking of prologues … I WAS NOT PREPARED! And by not prepared I mean I was so enraptured and “in the moment” with this story that when the prologue became the present, I WAS NOT PREPARED! I know that sounds like a “not good” point about the story but it’s quite the opposite given the circumstances. The circumstances being me completely forgetting the prologue was an actual “thing” until it actually became a “thing”. LOL Every little aspect and circumstance surrounding this story captured my attention and kept me super focus on Rhonan and Vienna and that’s all that mattered to me. They developed so beautifully and I just love the way Harlow tells a story!

I met Harlow’s word wizardry only a little over 2 years ago and I loved her instantly! So much so that I have devoured just about every one of her books with my eyeballs and I’m just waiting for her to put some of her backlist stories on audio so I can devour them again via audiobook! She is worth the investment! #trust

4.5 Stars rounded up
Rhonan has this whole grumpy but soft thing going on, where he’s clearly still carrying the weight of losing his wife but also trying so hard to be the best dad in the world to Ellis, and the way he melts around her is honestly unfair because it makes you forgive him for being emotionally constipated in literally every other area of his life. And Vienna, oh my god, she walks into Blossom Peak with this mix of sunshine and sadness, trying to rebuild herself after everything she’s been through, and she somehow manages to fit into Rhonan and Ellis’s world like she was always meant to be there, even when she’s covered in dirt from falling over her puppy for the third time that day.
Their connection kind of sneaks up on them in this slow, warm way where you can feel the tension building under every interaction, and even when they’re both trying to pretend they’re not ready for anything serious, their chemistry is basically sitting in the corner laughing at them. The friend group swoops in like “hey, you’re one of us now,” and Vienna just gets absorbed into this chaotic little community that makes the whole book feel cozy and alive. And then there’s the suspense plot that pops up like a jump scare you weren’t expecting in a romance, and suddenly you’re flipping pages faster because things got intense and you need to know everyone is okay, even though you’re also yelling at the characters for making questionable decisions like walking around outside when they KNOW someone might be watching them. But honestly, the drama just adds to the whole experience, because it gives Rhonan a chance to go full protective dad mode, and Vienna gets to show how strong she actually is.
What I loved most is that the book doesn’t pretend grief disappears just because someone new shows up. Rhonan’s love for his late wife is still there, and Vienna never tries to replace her; instead, the story shows how healing can look messy and slow and uncomfortable, and how opening your heart again doesn’t erase the past, it just makes room for something new. And by the time they finally stop fighting what’s so obviously happening between them, it feels earned, like they both had to grow into the version of themselves who could actually choose each other.

What to Expect:
- Small Town Romance
- Single Dad
- She's His Daughter's Teacher
- He's the Sheriff
- Grumpy + Sunshine
- Neighbors
- Grief + Healing
- Found Family
- Dual 1st Person POV
- Duet Narration

My Thoughts:
We are back in Blossom Peak! I love this world Harlow has created. The characters are relatable, and their stories always leave me with a smile on my face. I loved Vienna and Rhonan. Rhonan is a widower who has spent the last five years focused on raising his daughter, Ellis. He is protective, caring, and an amazing single dad. After leaving an emotionally abusive relationship, Vienna arrives in Blossom Peak looking for a fresh start. Although she is dealing with pain from her past, she is incredibly strong, kind, and brings so much sunshine to the story. I really loved how their relationship grew over time. This was a slow burn romance, but it felt natural and worth the wait.

Rhonan was still healing and tried to keep his guard up, but Vienna slowly worked her way into his life and his heart. Watching Rhonan come to terms with his feelings and finally choose happiness again was one of the most rewarding parts of the story. The witty banter, amazing chemistry, emotional moments, and spice made their relationship even more enjoyable to read. Beyond the romance, I loved the friendships and the found family element in this story. There is also a touch of suspense woven into the plot, which I always love. I really enjoyed this book, and I cannot wait to read what comes next.

Narration:
Ava Erickson and Aiden Snow performed this audiobook in duet. This is a top-tier pairing. These two absolutely nailed it. Ava and Aiden provided the perfect voices for Vienna and Rhonan. Their natural deliveries captured the characters' personalities so well and really brought their love story to life. I felt the emotion, loved the banter, and the swoon made my heart melt. This story is already a good time, but the duet narration absolutely elevated my experience. I was fully invested and couldn't stop listening. Highly recommended!

Thanks to Harlow James and One Night Stand Studios for the opportunity to review. Opinions expressed are my own.

Thank you Harlow James and The Author Agency for gifting me the ARC and gem of an ALC. I’m an avid audiobook listener and this was a spectacularly written and performed audiobook.

Aiden Snow and Ava Erickson SLAYED with their duet narration. Hearing Aiden say good girl absolutely solidifies any five star ALC listen for me, I’m not a hard girl to please 🥹 but in all seriousness, loved this story and the grumpy GRUMPIED. I adore when a grumpy MMC softens for his woman and this delivered that in spades. What a unique story.

Why you need to read or listen or immersive read this book…
💚single dad
💚sheriff MC (this was my first sheriff MC and WOW I have been missing out - I need more of this ASAP!)
💚neighbors
💚child’s teacher (also a first - and an insta favorite!)
💚grumpy/sunshine
💚small town

Blurb✨

First I want to thank Harlow James and the Author Agency for the gifted copy of Test of Time - Blossom peaks Book 3.
Finally Laney Harts Brother Rhonan gets his Story too.
I am not the biggest fan of the single parent trope but damn Harlow got me hooked.
I was so happy to get more of this Father Daughter Story as I loved Ellis already in the prior books of Blossom Peaks. Ellis:“I want to be a stripper!“ IYKYK - and if not go grad All this time Book 1 of blossom peaks.
The woman that will steal Rhonan’s heart - Vienna!
She is such a loveable character right from the start and the way she and Rhonan meet ?
Exiting gripping. The way the 2 meet again ?Unexpected, funny and a little worrysome.
But as always in Harlows Books after a lot of ups and downs and hidden pasts it ends with a HEA which I totally love. I also love the way Harlow incorporates references to my favourite TV Show ever- FRIENDS -
Also I adore how Harlow has a special way to portrait both guys friendships and women friendships in her storys. It makes you want to be a part of that group instantly.
I especially loved the choice of narrators Ava Erickson was new to me and I really liked her performance of the caring and sweet Teacher Vienna and her sassy mouth with Mr. Sheriff 🤠
I knew Aiden Snow out of a other genre and was excited to hear him as a Single dad.
Aiden also delivered the heartfelt voice for his daughter Ellis and then the damanding passionate man for Vienna perfect.
I am looking forward to book 4 of this series.

Harlow James is absolutely slayyying this series! This is book 3 of the Blossom Peak series and can be read as a standalone. I was excited to see how Rhonan’s story was going to play out because I could tell just how broken he was by the loss of his wife.

𝑺𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈: Blossom Peak

Rhonan and Vienna meet at a club and are instantly attracted to each other. Things heat up between them but then Vienna is gone. When Rhonan shows up to his daughter’s school, he is surprised when he discovers that Vienna is not only Ellis’s teacher, but his next door neighbor. I could feel how hurt Rhonan was by Vienna leaving that night because this man was NOT NICE at all to her at first. There were so many intense moments and lots of anger. But when he finally goes too far and goes over to apologize, things really get heated. Their evolution of their relationship was sweet and entertaining. I just love them together. They are clearly the piece each other was missing. Their grief was an emotional way that also connected them. Ellis was the absolute sweetest and really made sure they fit together as a family.

Aiden Snow absolutely nailed the role of the protective single dad. His voice fit Rhonan so well. His voice is both gruff but also emotional. Ava Erickson was just as perfect as Vienna. There’s something so warm and soothing about her narration style. She brought a softness with her emotions that really just made me love this story hard.

Test of Time is the third book in the Blossom Peak series and follows single dad and sheriff Rhonan, and Vienna, his new neighbor and daughter’s teacher.

Rhonan and Vienna were drawn to each other from the moment they met. She is running away from a controlling past and has just arrived in Blossom Peak. She is ready for a fresh start after the passing of her best friend. They meet at a bar, but even though they’re attracted to each other, Vienna ghosts him. What she didn’t expect was that this hot stranger from the bar would turn out to be her neighbor, and also the father of one of her students.

I loved the way Vienna and Rhonan's relationship developed throughout the book. Their paths kept crossing, and since Ellis really likes her new teacher and wants to spend time with her, they couldn't really avoid each other. The attraction and chemistry between them were so strong, and I was so happy when they finally took the plunge. They made such a lovely couple! Rhonan’s relationship with his daughter was also very sweet. Ellis had him wrapped around her finger, just like Vienna.

I've really enjoyed these characters and the series so far, and I can't wait to read Elliott and Dilynne’s book! I’ve been obsessed with them from the moment they were introduced. The chemistry between them was palpable in the previous books, so I’m excited to see how things turn out in their book!

Test of Time is an emotionally layered small-town romance that balances a slow burn relationship with high-stakes conflict and meaningful character development.

The story follows Vienna and Rhonan, whose connection begins with an instant spark but develops slowly due to real-life complications and emotional barriers. Rhonan’s role as a single father adds depth to his character, while Vienna’s journey forward after betrayal creates a strong emotional foundation.

One of the most compelling aspects of the story is the emotional progression. What begins as a quiet, character-driven romance evolves into something much more intense, particularly as the stakes increase and the characters are forced into life-threatening situations.

The relationship between Vienna and Ellis is a standout element, adding emotional weight and reinforcing the found family dynamic. Vienna’s actions later in the story highlight her growth and commitment, especially in moments where she puts others before herself.

The story successfully blends softer emotional moments with heightened tension, creating a well-rounded and engaging reading experience.

Overall, Test of Time delivers a powerful mix of slow burn romance, emotional depth, and high-stakes conflict, making it a memorable and impactful read.

I received an ARC for this one. I had such a good time.

Rhonan and Vienna had instant chemistry from their very first meeting in the bar.
The spark between them is undeniable right away and then the reveal that she is not only his new neighbor but also his daughter’s new teacher? Perfect.

There is so much love and friendship outside the central romance. I really loved the found family dynamics. Ellis was such a bright part of the book and I appreciated that she felt like a fully formed character instead of just a device to soften the MMC.
And the puppy? Instant bonus points. I’m incredibly easy to win over with a good romance and a good boy.

The friend group and town dynamics were another highlight. Blossom Peak felt warm and not like a backdrop created solely for one couple. The friendships, the history and the small town ties made the whole world feel read. I want to go back and read the other books in the series.

Rhonan has that gruff, protective energy that always works. Vienna was easy to root for, their chemistry stayed strong well beyond the initial spark and the whole romance felt grounded and satisfying.

By the end, I was fully invested not just in them, but in the whole town. And honestly, that’s one of the best things I can say about a small town romance that it made me want to stay awhile and read the rest of the series.

“I am a huge sucker for the moment in a movie or a book when the guy gets the girl, or vice versa. That blip when the conflict is done, and they can finally be together?” I clasp my hands over the center of my chest as I sigh. “It gets me every time.”

Author Harlow James has a way of wrecking me with each book I read from her—all in a good way, though. Test of Time was a test of my emotions. All the rawness and intensity of what both Vienna and Rhonan have been through were felt. Their connection to each other was authentic.

Vienna herself carried traits that I believe many readers will resonate with. I loved the realness of her character—the life she was leaving and the new one she was creating. So, yes, Test of Time pulled some heartstrings. But that’s what Harlow James does.

Harlow also develops her supporting characters brilliantly. She builds them into the plot, giving readers just enough to keep them curious, without overshadowing or compromising the storyline. She does this remarkably well across all her series, and I’m quite eager for Elliott's story, given his role in Test of Time.

Thank you to Harlow James for the gifted e-copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Rhonan and Vienna had chemistry the moment they met but then she ghosted him. Imagine both of their surprise when not only does she become his new neighbor but she's also his daughter's new teacher.

This one is definitely a show burn. These two are both experiencing loss in different ways. Rhonan hasn't been interested in a woman since his late wife passed away. Vienna is running from her past while also grieving her best friend. I loved seeing them work through their grief and find healing with each other. Don't get me started on how wonderful Rhonan was with his daughter, Ellis. Protective daddy??? SWOON. And the relationship Vienna developed with her? Absolutely precious.

This one was sweet, spicy, a little emotional, and even had some excitement thrown in too! And that ending?!?! I cannot wait for book 4!!!

🎧Audio:🎧
This is a duet narration by Aiden Snow & Ava Erickson. Aiden's deep voice matched up to the grumpy, single dad perfectly!! Ava brought every emotion to life as Vienna and Ellis too! They had my attention the entire time. The audio was fantastic!

What to expect:
💚Single Dad
💚Grumpy x Sunshine
💚Love After Loss
💚Neighbors to Lovers
💚Teacher x Parent Romance

Thank you to Harlow James for this ARC/ALC. All thoughts are my own.

This one was really sweet! Ava Erickson & Aiden Snow did a solid job with the narration 🎧

I love a grumpy man, and Rhonan is as reserved as they come with women, but an absolute softie with his daughter. Bossy in and out of the bedroom. Vienna is everything he didn’t know he needed, and watching her grow close to his daughter was adorable. They definitely start off rocky, but once that wall comes down… they don’t hold back!

Btw- The dingleberry scene had me chucking like an idiot. If you have a dog, you’ll get it. 🤣

Highly recommend if you need a palate cleanser. Sweet, light, spicy, with a quick hit of suspense.

Thank you Harlow James & The Smuthood for giving me these advance reader and listening copies.

What to expect:
🏡 Small town
👨‍👧 Single dad / daughter’s teacher
🌤️ Grumpy x sunshine
🏘️ Neighbors
🌶️ Mid-level spice
🚿 Showerhead play
💥 “F*ck it” moment
✨ No third act breakup
