I have written/edited/published for years but it was non-fiction, especially directories. The government decided to do some things that impacted my products, and spent years postponing proposed changes. My customer base was pretty much decimated. Oh well...life.

Wake up! When I was 10 or 12, I read The Eternal Savage by Burroughs (in two parts, 1914 and 1917). I immediately went looking for a sequel. There never was one. I re-read the book a few times and in 2013 decided I'd do the sequel myself. I re-wrote the beginning, sequel (#2), then #3, #4 as of February 2015. It will require 4-5 more at least to use the scenes already in my head.

Why Vic instead of a Victor? I have four fantastic hanai neices. Women have it better now than once upon a time but still people don't give them deserved credit. I wanted to create a character that wasn't a vampire or super hero, just the girl next door but with a goal and unwilling to let anything stop her. Vic remembers when life was stupendously savage, when actions we might today equate with extreme bravery were just daily life. Vic's motto: You don't need to be brave, you just need to do what needs done.

Obviously a great influence is Edgar Rice Burroughs. I liked all his work but especially his less celebrated books. I read most Tarzan books but preferred stories like Eternal Savage, Pellucidar novels, the Moon Trilogy, Beyond Thirty, Land of Hidden Men, The Oakdale Affair, Time Forgot books, and so on.

ERB was not my only influence, though, I remember trying to read a Hardy Boys book and never finished one. Tried Nancy Drew and loved it. One part of the formula for Nancy books is inclusion of real facts. For example I recently re-read Moss Covered Mansion and it had a fantastic description of visiting the Kennedy Space Center before a launch in the 60's. I try to include real facts without making it a travelogue. And although there is a sci-fi component to the books (and will continue to be) I want Vic to always do things that are possible. Often they are far from easy, and definitely not recommended as many of her actions are very dangerous - but always possible. On the website under references I give all the places where I dug up info for the books.

Nancy Drew and ERB had influential helpers. All those writers who contributed as Kenneth Robeson to Doc Savage and The Avenger were great influences, also. I read all of both series.I figure if my writing can bring readers even a tiny fraction of the pleasure I was given by those writers of yesteryear, it's worth anything I put into it.

Lots of information about Vic and the books are on the website http://www.vicplanet.com. References are listed, non-English vocabulary used in the books, discussion questions for book clubs, reviews, excerpts, trailers and more.

Each novel has it's own board on Pinterest. Just go to https://www.pinterest.com/glbwandvic/ You can follow me and Vic on Twitter if interested @vicaction I spend about an hour per day on Twitter. Twice I read through the most recent 100 tweets. I usually retweet several on many topics. It's not just Vic stuff. I follow back 99% of the time. I send thank you tweets to new followers. I send about 5-10 tweets myself. Some are quotes from Vic or others. Some are about coming books. Some are review quotes. Some are none of the above.

A fan set up a Vic fan group on FaceBook. It would be great if you joined. No cost, no work. If you ever want to talk about a Vic book or rellated you have a place to go. I have nothing to do with the group (I think it would be tacky to join a group for my own character) but I will try to always give advance notice of next book and such, discounts and that sort of thing. Nothing to lose, maybe something to gain. https://www.facebook.com/groups/14744...

Finally, a request to share. I'm told reviews help. Amazon uses them to determine what customers see when they search. When you read a Vic novel, please write a review

This is the fourth adventure of Victoria Custer, your average resident of the early 20th century. Using the pen name Vic Challenger, Victoria, and her friend, Lin Li, travel to exotic places and write about them for their hometown newspaper. The unique part is that inside Vic is the avatar of a 100,000-year old cavewoman named Nat-ul (who is not afraid to call Vic an idiot when necessary). The two are engaged in a never-ending search for Nu, Nat-ul's lover from all those centuries ago. After all, Nat-ul is still alive (in a sense), so Nu must also be out there, somewhere.

In this volume, Vic and Lin Li plan to do some hiking and exploring in the Amazon rain forest. While in Brazil buying provisions, Vic meets Ech, and elderly woman who speaks the original language of the uprights; Nat-ul's language. Ech comes from the land of Goch, in an isolated area of the Amazon. Vic and Lin Li agree to go to Goch, if only to tell Ech's people that she has passed on.

After several days of traveling by boat upriver, and hacking through nearly solid vines and undergrowth, the two are taken prisoner and brought to a man, who speaks English, named Tis. They have found the land of Goch. Tis has a very effective means of keeping the people under control. Think of a cross between a large lizard and a Tyrannosaurus Rex, large enough to have a semi-human, but equally hideous looking, being riding it. They know how to deal with anyone who gets out of line. There are only two pairs at the moment, but Tis has hundreds of eggs ready to hatch, with which he will take over the world.

The two are separated for several days, but they make their escape. They are able to neutralize one of the dinosaur pairs, but even after reaching their boat, with the fuel line conveniently missing, the other enters the river and comes after them. There is quite the pitched battle in the piranha-infested water, with some help from Nat-ul. Meantime, with Tis overthrown, do the people of Goch exact their revenge?

I really enjoyed this book. It has plenty of action, and exotic peoples and locations (exotic to the average American). I hope there are more tales of Vic/Nat-ul.

I have read all of the books in the Vic series and they continue to keep grabbing my attention. This series has been one of the best series that I have read in a very long time and I have found it to be very enjoyable. Vic and Lin Li are headed off on their next adventure and are ready for some fun. I'm always happy to read about Vic's and Lin Li's newest adventure. Each book is exciting and I can't wait to see where it will end up.

Vic and Lin Li feel like there will be no danger this time on their adventure, but they have no idea how wrong they are. They were looking for an adventure that would be fun, which they get, but there are a few surprises along the way that give them a run for their money. There's apes, dinosaurs, snakes and headhunters just to name a few of the obstacles that they go through. Another unique twist in this book is the possible betrayal between Vic and Lin Li. Lin Li may be possibly hiding something from Vic. I don't want to give too much away, but it's definitely an interesting aspect of the plot.

I think my favorite thing about this novel was the scenery and the settings. The author does an amazing job of describing the settings that the characters are in. I loved the views of nature and how exotic everything felt. Vic is such a tough character and I think that she represents women well. This is truly a book of the ages and I hope that the series will continue!

I just can’t get enough of Jerry Gill’s Vic book series. With Vic: Terror Incognita, I was treated a fourth time to the wild travels of Vic(toria) Custer and Lin Li. With every paragraph, you will wish you lived in the 1920s like they do. But we just have to settle for reading about the exploits of the female answer to Indiana Jones—happily settle.

If you aren’t familiar with the outrageous love story of Vic’s 100,000-year-old former self Nat-ul and cave dweller Nu, you need not worry. Each book in The Incredible Adventures of Vic Challenger is filled with backstory on the two lovers. This fourth installment finds Vic and her longtime friend Lin trekking across the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. After a deadly fight with a 20-foot, 300 lb. anaconda, they take Instagram-worthy pictures of it before roasting the snake with mushrooms for dinner. Can you say ‘girl power’?

Their friendship is tested as Vic continues to wonder about Stu James--who may be the reincarnation of Nu. But they continue to push forward while more antics ensue. Along with a host of various creatures and characters, we learn about the endurance of these heroines. “Lin and I are adventure writers. We need to do things on our own and a little more dangerous than we would ever suggest for our readers. It keeps them reading. It’s our living.” That’s what these heroines encounter for the art of writing. That’s the thrill that Jerry Gill gives his readers with this latest book.

I am in love with this series, I was hooked right from book one, Time Doesn't Matter. I love the adventuring tales with the unique tie into fate, and Vic remembering her past life and her soul mate. I am such a fan of the addition of Lin Li to this series, (book 2) Lin Li and Vic make a feminist proud with their kick butt, fearlessness in the face of danger and adversity. These books are so imaginative, descriptive, and detailed with actual facts, and Terror Incognita was not exception. One of the other reviewers mentioned that these books reminded them of Nancy Drew. I had never thought of that before, but that statement really struck home. These books are adventurous, good clean reads, and the style is indeed reminiscent of Nancy Drew, though Vic is better, in my opinion. I like the 1920's setting, it gives the book such an interesting edge, the world was still such a mysterious place waiting for discovery back in the days before internet made everything accessible with the click of a button. I loved the newest addition to this series, and the fact that every book is enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. I am already anxious for the next book, I cannot wait to find out if Vic has truly located Nu!

This fun and exciting read was just what I was in the mood for. Jerry Gill's books are always fantastic, but he definitely broke the mold with this one! In addition to well-written and interesting characters, he managed to combine just the right amount of suspense and mystery in the plot. If you are looking for a read that is genuinely original, I highly recommend this one.

If you have ever read pulp fiction (and i dont mean the movie) you will recognize and love work such as this. Vic is an adventure travel writer who ends up on a trip to top all trips. Tons of surprises, twists, and turns with lots of action and adventure mixed in.
