Beau Ford

The Silver Ridge Ranch is not just my family's legacy, it's everything to me. Being a cowboy is as much a part of my DNA as being a Ford is, and boy, do I love what I do. The long hours, the time spent out with the herd on horseback, watching the sun set over our land day in and day out. I'm fine with the fact that this lifestyle doesn't leave much time for anything else.

Except for my best friend, Birdie Calloway. I'll always have time for her. She is strong and sweet, spending most of her time bringing new life into the world as the best midwife in Clarence County. The two of us have been inseparable since kindergarten, and I'm convinced I've loved her just as long. Not that anything has ever happened between us—we've never crossed that line—but trust me when I say holding her as she sleeps in my bed most nights is torture. I'm her safe place and I won't ever do something that could jeopardize that.

That is, until the night I have my arms wrapped around her and someone starts knocking on my door. Suddenly I'm standing in front of a woman holding a baby who has eyes so blue they match my own. Oh, God. They match my own.

I messed up. I messed up so badly. Holding my daughter in my arms, I can't regret the one-night stand I had. She's an unexpected blessing whose whole life is now completely dependent on me. But seeing the pain in my best friend's eyes just might be my undoing.

It's wrong, and selfish, but I ask Birdie to stay with us at the ranch. To help me step into fatherhood. And I see it instantly. The way she looks at my daughter is the same way she looks at me. With hope, and so much unconditional love. I'm starting to think it might just be possible to change everything between us and come out stronger on the other side...

But when Birdie is hurt one day after work, I vow that nothing will stop me from keeping her safe. It becomes clear that someone has painted a target on her back, and after thirty years of friendship, I'm willing to put everything on the line—including my own life—for the woman who has always held my heart in her hands.

Genuine question what the fuck is wrong with these authors that think there’s anything remotely romantic about a guy being supposedly in love with the fmc but fucks around and on top of that has a kid with ow that the fl will have to constantly be around while she is this pious virginal character whose only purpose in life is to wait for the guy to fuck it out of his system??? Honestly embarrassing mentality for this day and age. Put the pen down if you can’t write anything other than humiliation rituals for women

Of fucking course she is a 35 years old virgin, because nobody measured up to him. She dated but never got past second base
And of course he had hook ups, of course he fucked someone else and got her pregnant while he was jealous of the man she was dating, but never even did anything past kissing because she, a grown ass woman, couldn't be with someone other than him.
Double standards in 2026 is so old fashioned and so fucking annoying
She is so stupid, really, waiting for a man while you know he is out there fucking others
Disgusting
Pathetic
Weak

How romantic that he waited 30 years to finally have the guts to act on his so called love for her. Coincidentally it happened just when he has his child with ow dropped at his doorstep so now he has a free nanny

Even if the author was actively trying to write an awful story I don't think this book could be any worse than what it is

She is a virgin because no other man was him. He can't say the same, many other women did it for him

- there is the typical dialogue with him saying he can't regret his one night stand because he can't regret his daughter and the doormat saying she is a part of him so of course he can't regret that night (the night he fucked other woman while she was incapable of sleeping with the doctor she dated)
- she is the virgin, but he dares to say he was pinning for her has been years.
- he says he is sorry he didn't wait for her and she says it is not his fault, there is nothing to apologize for because he wouldn't be mad if she did something with her date (she never did anything beyond kissing) at this point I wish she would just shut the fuck up
- he is jealous of the fact she held hands with the doctor she dated (really what a fucking joke) all the while she is a glorified nanny to a child he produced fucking someone else

There are many but this one takes the cake as the most pathetic scene
“Beau. You had nothing to ever be jealous about, and you’ve done nothing that you need to apologize to me for. When I was with Micah, I thought maybe things would be different with him because he was nice, and we were friendly at work. But he wasn’t you. I’ve always known you had experiences that we didn’t talk about, and we don’t need to bring them up now, because I would never hold that against you. Just like I know you wouldn’t hold it against me if Micah had turned out to be something more for me. And now that we’ve talked about it, what I’d love to focus on is the fact that he never made it past second base. And you’re about to score a home run.”

Friends to lovers...... My mortal enemy 🤜🏽

Ahhh how I wish this trope, rather the way in which these authors choose to execute this trope, would just die.

Friends to lovers in which the H had a ONS and got the OW pregnant and she died so he's got a child to raise all on his own..... But never fear the mightiest birdbrain of all the birds is there to save the day. His lovely girl bestie will be there to guide him through fatherhood, the most dangerous hood of them all 🤭. Nothing says I love you like immediate babysitting, a stand in mummy and available pussy all wrapped up in someone you've known for years Shit you don't even need to ask for references. All you need to do is claim to have loved her all along awwwwwwwwwwww 🖕🏽🖕🏽🖕🏽🖕🏽

Someone said 30 years of friendship that's so sweet......I died 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

ETA.... I've been informed that the great feathered one.....the mightiest of bird brains....our h......is a VIRGIN *gasp* 😮‍💨

Beau spent a lot of time yearning for his best friend......all of that time was spent fucking ow but still he sure was yearning though 😔 and the h with her vagina powdered and packed away just waiting for him to open it.....took him some years for her number to call but lucky birdie she gets him forever ever 😌🤗

Fuck you!

Not for me 😕😒😌

This book felt like a warm, cozy embrace set in a charming small town.

Watching Birdie and Beau finally transition from thirty years of best friendship into a romance was incredibly heart-warming.
Their deep, lifelong bond made for a beautiful foundation, and I absolutely loved seeing them embrace a family unit with little Juniper. Beau’s devotion was truly swoon-worthy, and the way they navigated life together felt tender and authentic.

However, there were a few elements that kept me from fully connecting with the story. The way the baby was introduced through an old hookup felt a bit strange and forced, and I found the pacing of the couple's romance to be a little stagnant. Despite being in their thirties, their passivity about their obvious feelings felt stretched, and the suspense subplot was so predictable that it took away from the tension.

Ultimately, this was a solid read that I enjoyed for the cozy atmosphere and the charming character dynamics. While the execution of the mystery and the pacing felt a bit off at times, the emotional payoff of seeing Birdie and Beau finally find their happiness made it a worthwhile, gentle experience.

I am still a fan of this world and am looking forward to seeing what happens next in the series.

As always thank you to Tilly Colson and House of hearts lit for this arc. 🫶🏻

Oh this one had all the emotions wrapped in one.
I was sobbing, on the edge of my seat, crying happy tears, laughing. All of the feeeeels.

I love the best friends to lovers trope and Tilly did it so damn good.
Birdie and Beau being best friends for over 30 plus years? That got me. 🥹
When Beau gets the most surprising news, he’s a father (unfortunately the mother passed away) Birdie steps right in to help.

Watching the slow burn between the two was utterly perfect.
The chemistry was so there. I could read another 250 pages about them. I just didn’t want it to end.

Birdie is so compassionate and caring. That girl would do anything for her family.

Beau? Completely won me over. He was so protective of his girls.
Literally touch her and die. I loveeeeeed it.

I loved the suspenseful aspects as well. I was nervous, and it all felt real, nothing was overly done or exaggerated.

5.0/5⭐️ for making me feel everything!

I was given an ARC of this book and all opinions are my own.

After reading the 1st book of this series and loving it, I am sad to say I do not think I'll continue past Sudden Summer. I ended this book a bit numb. I love childhood friends to lovers when done right. However, this book took 3 days to read when usually under 400 if I'm blown away, takes me less than a day.
I didn't swoon, giggle, get warm & fuzzies or anything.

Let me say friends to lovers with an accidental baby from another woman who isn't there, CAN be done correctly. The bones were good. I've read this plot and loved it before. However, a 35 year old virgin waiting for him because he's an idiot? No. It's not the romantic moment you wanted it to be.

A woman desperately wanting a family of her own and waiting 30 years for someone to pull his head out of his booty and he ONLY got there because of his situation and not his brain/heart? Absolutely not romantic. Not even a little.

Even the "proposal" was bogus.

It takes a lot for me to be heavily critical of a book but unfortunately this book contained a multitude of things wrong with society that angered me. Women deserve better. Especially if their situation is being written about by a woman.

Thank you to the author and House of Hearts for the opportunity.

The Silver Springs Ranch series has my entire heart. I love this family, this community, and every single trip back to this town.

This is childhood friends to lovers done right. Birdie and Beau have spent years dancing around their feelings, and it takes one very unexpected surprise, a baby Beau never knew he had, for everything to finally come to the surface. Sweet little Juniper was the perfect catalyst to bring them together.

This book had the perfect balance of yearning, family, humor, and small town charm. I loved finally getting Birdie’s story after seeing her throughout the series. Watching her lose the security she’d worked so hard for broke my heart, but seeing Beau and the entire Silver Springs family rally around her reminded me exactly why I love this series so much.

One of my favorite things about Tilly H. Colson’s romantic suspense is that instead of a predictable third act breakup, she always delivers a third act twist that keeps you turning the pages.

This town. This family. These characters. I will never get enough of them.

Oh boy! Where do I start?

Book 2 in the Silver Springs Ranch series is about best friends Beau and Birdie. They have been friends since they were kids and have always had feelings for each other. They've secretly pined for each other but afraid they'll ruin their decades of friendship. All this changed when Beau became a dad to Juniper, who was dropped off at his doorstep after Juniper's mom passed away. Beau and her had a one night stand and she kept Juniper from him. Birdie stepped up and was obviously there to help shocked and flustered Beau. He asked for Birdie to move in and help with taking care of Juniper and eventually their repressed feelings for each other came out and they became a couple. Pretty straight forward except for the suspense part of the story - we have a deranged person trying to unalive Birdie.

Positives first - I loved Beau and Birdie's friendship. In the beginning, they talked about how they both supported and was there for each other. The opening scenes is him making her a steak dinner and having her sleep over at his house so she can rest. I thought that was sweet (more on this friendship later). I love the Ford family starting from the parents down to the siblings. Their banter is funny and many of my favorite scenes in the books were somehow with the MCs and one of the Ford family members. Loved seeing Violet and Colt (couple from the first book). Adored Juniper and how both Beau and Birdie's sudden thrust into parenthood and that journey was portrayed in the book.

Unfortunately, there's a lot more I didnt like with this book overall. I finished it but I think I was more curious about the villain than I am the love story. Which I was right off the bat because to me, as the reader, it was so glaringly obvious that I wanted to see how I would be wrong when said villain was revealed. What is surprising to me is how Birdie didnt even think of this person as the villain - like girl, he already assaulted you once and you didnt think to mention he should at least be a suspect? My biggest issue, sadly, is how them finally being a couple felt so wrong. For someone who supposedly yearns for his best friend, Beau f***ks around with a lot of women and got a one night stand pregnant while Birdie remained a virgin. He finally realized its now or never with Birdie while she's there becoming a mom to his kid. Red flag! I felt so bad for Birdie. I actually liked her in the first few chapters - the way she stood up for that mom and that horrific dad. But that's the extent of it because she let everybody push her around and take advantage of her including her supposed best friend Beau. And dont get me started with her mom and sister Lainey. The hate I have for these two - it made me not want to continue reading. The family issues they have was not resolved at all and Lainey is our next FMC. I have no interest in reading her book right now tbh. Hopefully it will be a good redemption arc story because in this book, it seemed like she took advantage of Birdie in the worst sense. There's so many cringe scenes in the book too - him doing her makeup, their first time being outside, on the ground, after a picnic then they get shot at 🫠. Too many to mention. The spice is meh. I have a hard time imaging them doing it when 80% of the time, Birdie is injured. Like that cannot be comfortable. I think the most agregious is the ending because what was that? The last 10% was probably the worst because it didnt make sense, it was rushed and there was nothing romantic about it.

Overall, I'm a bit disappointed. I have very high hopes for this one and I dont know if I will be continuing with the series. I have no interest with Lainey. Lachlan story is compelling but I am not sure at this point.

Advanced Reader Review- Book gifted by Author

Tilly has done it again. 🩵 She made me feel every emotion, and that’s one of the many reasons I adore her writing. Every character she creates feels so real, and I always find myself connecting with them in some way. This time, it was our sweet Birdie… (and another character you’ll meet that completely stole a piece of my heart).

This is the most beautiful friends-to-lovers romance. Birdie and Beau always felt destined for each other, but they were both too afraid to risk the friendship. They are each other’s safe place… each other’s constant… each other’s person. 🥹

Then Beau’s entire world changes overnight when he discovers he has a four-month-old daughter who now needs him. *Cue one of the most swoon-worthy moments in the book. His love for her was instant. He saw so much of himself in her, even while feeling completely overwhelmed and terrified of stepping into fatherhood.

Thankfully, he had Birdie.

Birdie his best friend.
Birdie the compassionate midwife.
Birdie the woman with the biggest heart.

Without hesitation, Birdie helps Beau navigate his new role as a father. But that very same night, her own life is turned upside down. After trying to protect a laboring patient, she’s attacked at the hospital, setting off a series of life-altering events that I never saw coming.

I loved every single minute of this book. The emotional depth, the tenderness, the found family, the romance, and those plot twists… Tilly had me completely hooked. I genuinely wasn’t prepared for where this story was going, and I loved every second of it. 🤭👏🏼

This series has officially earned a spot on my Roman Empire list. It’s heartfelt, unforgettable, and absolutely beautiful. I already can’t wait for the next book. 🩵📚

And don’t even get me started on the bonus chapter teasing our next MMC and FMC. If that’s just a glimpse of what’s to come, I already know it’s going to absolutely wreck me. I can guarantee I’ll cry more tears than ever before… and that’s all I’m going to say about that. 🩵😭

Tropes:

🩵Unexpected fatherhood (not her baby)

Tilly has very quickly stolen pieces of my heart with her books and characters, and she's definitely being added to my auto-buy authors list. I also can't wait to devour her entire backlist! 🥰

Sudden Summer was THE SWEETEST best friends to lovers story. 🥹 Beau and Birdie's relationship absolutely melted my heart, and I lost count of how many times I swooned. As we all know - YOU SHOULD ALWAYS RUIN THE FRIENDSHIP! And I couldn't have been happier for there two people, who had already been each other's safest place and whole world to FINALLY take that step, despite how scary it was, and how many other changes were happening in their lives - like unexpected fatherhood. 🤭

I wanted to give Birdie the biggest hug, and protect her from the whole world! 🥺 Her heart was made of gold, and every time something happened to her or she was mistreated, I was so ready to find the person responsible and fight them. She truly deserved the world, and I was so happy to see her get the happy ending she deserved, and be surrounded by so much love! 🩵

The suspense kept me anxious (in the best way) andthere were also so many moments that completely broke my heart along the way! 😭😭

I'm loving this series so much, and can't wait for the next book! 🥰

Thank you so much to Tilly and House of Hearts for this arc!

💌ARC REVIEW

I absolutely loved this book! I was so excited for Beau and Birdie's book, and it was everything I hoped for and more! Tilly's writing always has a way of completely pulling me in, and once I start reading, I just can't put the book down!

Beau and Birdie's friendship was one of the sweetest things ever. They've both been in love with each other for so long, but because of fear—and because the timing never seemed right—they never confessed their feelings.
But when Beau finds out that he has a five-month-old daughter and honestly has no idea what he's doing, he asks Birdie to stay with him while he adjusts to his new life as a dad. That's when the feelings they've been hiding for so long start to become impossible to ignore, and they can no longer hide what they've felt for each other all this time.

I loved reading about the beautiful way they always know when something is right or wrong with the other, how well they know each other, and how they always seem to know exactly what the other needs, whether it's comfort, a hug, or a warm meal.

Birdie, my beautiful girl! She completely stole my heart. She has such a beautiful soul, always willing to help anyone who needs it, to comfort them, and to simply be there without thinking twice. She has the biggest heart! There were so many moments in this book where I felt so frustrated and angry because of the way her mom—and even her sister—used her, and how incredibly inconsiderate they were toward her. (LAINEY, I NEED YOUR REDEMPTION ARC!) All Birdie ever wanted was to have a family, a place to call home.

Speaking of family... the found family in this book!! 🫂 The Fords are everything that's right in the world!! They constantly remind Birdie that she's always been a Ford. The scene where Dolly tells her that she's her daughter and that from now on she should call her Mom... I was in tears. 😭❤️‍🩹

Beau is everything that's right too!! He would literally do anything for Birdie. The way this man looks at her... the way it's always been her. 🙂‍↕️ Beau embraced unexpected fatherhood in such a beautiful way. He's the kind of person who gives his all once he commits to something, and despite all the fear, doubt, and uncertainty, he threw himself wholeheartedly into raising Juniper and being everything she needed from day one.

I enjoyed this book so much! It was such a cozy, heartwarming, and incredibly entertaining read. I had the best time reading it!!

The anticipation I have for Lachlan and Lainey's book!! OMG!! I already know this couple is going to completely break my heart... and then put all the pieces back together!!

Thank you so much to Tilly and House of Hearts Lit for the advance reader copy! 💘

This was the best friend’s to lovers romance I have ever read😭I did not think Tilly could top Blue Norther, but she absolutely delivered again with Beau and Birdie. Once again she made me feel every single emotion possible. I adore her writing, it’s just so effortless and pulls you in and doesn’t let go.

Birdie and Beau have been best friends for 30 years. They both have always loved each other but were too afraid to risk their friendship for something more. But, when Beau gets a knock on his door and discovers he has a 4 month old daughter, his world completely changes. Without a second thought Birdie steps up and helps him with navigating this new role as a dad. That same night she was attacked while delivering a patients baby. This sets off some suspense filled events and twists that had me on the edge of my seat!

Birdie completely stole my heart. She was a compassionate midwife with the biggest heart. She was his best friend and you could just feel the love between these two. Beau was down bad for her and I loved every minute of it. The way he loved her and took care of her. This man had me swooning😍He lit put her makeup on for her when she couldn’t😭He was perfection.

I loved every single thing about this book. The yearning, the chemistry, the banter, the spice..perfection! She writes the best romance and found family. If she writes it I will be buying it! This series is now a top romance suspense for me. It was so emotional, so heartfelt and one that is unforgettable! And that teaser of what’s to come in the next book👀I can’t wait!

Thank you so much to Tilly and house of hearts for this gifted advanced copy! One of my fav reads of the year! This releases on July 3rd. Please add it to your tbr immediately🫶🏻

We are returning to Silver Springs Ranch.

A friend to lovers, small town, surprise daddy. Birdie and Beau have been friends for over 30years, both have never acknowledged their feelings. When Beau gets the unexpected news, he is a father, Birdie steps up.

It takes a child, Juniper, to bring these two together. A slow burn. We also get a bit of suspense, the family humor, and all the charm of a small town. The found family brings the support, as small towns usually do.

As far as the tease for the future, I am ready for it.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Thanks to Tilly H. Colson and House of Hearts for the gifted copy. As always, all opinions are my own.

To be honest, I'm still not sure how I feel about this book. I love a story with plenty of yearning, but one aspect really didn't work for me.

She spent years staying single because "no one measured up to him," while he was sleeping with woman after woman despite supposedly having feelings for her. That double standard was really off-putting and made it difficult for me to fully connect with their romance. Personally, I couldn't shake the feeling that she deserved better.

Not a bad book but the timeline was weird and sort of disjointed. For the first half of tjr book it wasn't clear whether juniper wad 3 or 5 months old.
And I didnt like that birdie was a 35 year old virgin. If beau had never come around would she havr just died alone?

The way that Birdie + Beau had me all in my feels during Sudden Summer!! Their story was so so good & everything I thought it would be. Plus the little suspense part at the end?? SO SO GOOD! I am a sucker for nicknames and Birdies nickname was Chickadee, and I thought it was so dang adorable. The best friends to lovers aspect was on point. They were always meant for each other. Still think about beau and birdie on the daily. A 5 star read that lives in my head rent free.

Here what to expect in Sudden Summer :
-unexpected fatherhood
-midwife x cowboy
-romantic suspense
-small town
-best friends to lovers
-mutual pining

If Tilly writes its, you can bet that I will read it.

So thankful to be apart of such an AMAZING team & so grateful to have been able to ARC read. Much love for Tilly + her team!

🌶️🌶️/ spice rating

This series is quickly becoming a place of peace and familiarity to me. Tilly H Colson has created a beautiful sense of family and devotion in this series that has made my heart feel all warm & fuzzy. I absolutely adored seeing Birdie and Beau going from friends to lovers, taking 30+ years of friendship and turning into this beautiful relationship that had my heart swooning. Beau was a man that was SO down bad for Birdie, he knew she was his person, his future and the love of his life. He was just afraid to cross that line. And Birdie felt the same about him but what surprised me is that she honestly didn’t think he’d want a romantic relationship with her. I wanted to shove them into a room and force them to tell each other exactly how they felt about each other hahah, but isn’t that the thing that friends to lovers does to the reader, it drives you a tad insane🤭🤭 Beau becoming a dad to a surprise baby from a one night stand was so beautifully done, Birdie wasn’t a jealous heart broken woman about it, she was totally supportive of Beau and encouraged him the whole way into his new role as a father. Watching her fall in love with Juniper did funny things to my heart and I loved how passionate she was about keeping Junipers birth mums memory alive so she would always know her. Honestly Birdie totally stole the spotlight for this book, she was a brilliant FMC and I loved seeing all of the Ford family members showing their love for her. Beau was so attentive, patient, caring and swoon worthy. His love for his girls was unwavering and only grew as the book progressed. Like most of Tilly H Colson’s book this had an underlying suspense plot going on and I enjoyed this one a lot. Now I’m patiently waiting for Lachlans book next because my poor man needs his heart healed❤️‍🩹

Ok so I’ve been dying to read this story because I already was so invested in their dynamic since the first book, I mean, it was painfully obvious for literally everyone that this two were meant to be.

•In a positive note:

I love this notion of this two literally soulmates who have a connection so strong and so powerful that every single person that knows them are rotting for them to be together.

About the story itself, I love how the author always manages to give the story this romantic suspense vibe that brings into the story so much dynamism and depth! I’m always so invested in the main couple but also in the big reveal of the subplot and the villain of the story.

The Ford family is simply heartwarming, they’re a unity so strong and unconditional, that support, banter and cozy moments are always nice to read.

•For the not so positive part:

I understand the friends to lovers trope and almost always enjoy it but here the 30 years waiting… living close to each, being super tight friends and you tell me neither of them made a move? And I mean, it was painfully obvious that the were so much more for the other than friends, why wait so many years without a valid reason?

In this specific case it tastes like a betrayal that she has to be a 35 year old virgin who dated but never let herself get pass not even second base because nobody but him felt right? Mm ok? But of course he could fool around and have all the hooks up he wanted 👌

The timing for him to act on his feelings feels weird and a little taking advantage of the situation because he acts on it just to form a family and have support raising his daughter, idk even if he really loves her why he waited until he needed a nanny? It just felt weird!

And the last one, why my girl Birdie was so accustomed to being pushed around by everybody around her (her mom and sister) that when a guy literally assaulted her she didn’t even mentioned it to the police when she was attacked again to idk for him to be the most obvious suspect? I don’t understand why she didn’t said nothing until the last part.

Listen, I think the story has good bones, the characters are so good and are easy to like, the family is so cozy and the backstory is very engaging… sadly this several points that I mentioned previously kind of didn’t let me enjoyed the “friends to lover” story that I was so excited to read!

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I honestly don’t know how to feel about this book because I wanted to love it so badly after how incredible the first one was.

What disappointed me most was the complete lack of uncertainty, emotion, and questions. He tells her, “I have a child,” and her reaction is basically, “Oh… okay.” As if it’s nothing. But how can it be nothing? She’s loved him since they were children. He’s been her best friend, the love of her life, the one she’s always wanted. Finding out that he has a child with someone else should have been absolutely heartbreaking.

I expected shock. Anger. Heartbreak. Jealousy. Confusion. I wanted tears, difficult conversations, awkward silence, and all the questions that naturally come with a revelation like that. Did he love the child’s mother? Was he happy with her? Why didn’t he tell her sooner? How does this change everything between them? Instead, she accepted it almost instantly, and the moment felt emotionally empty. A revelation that huge deserved so much more weight.

I also missed seeing him truly fight for her. I wanted him to prove, without a doubt, that she was the one he had always wanted. I’m not saying they needed unnecessary drama or that they had to make each other’s lives miserable they had both been in other relationships, and that’s part of life. But I wanted emotional depth. I wanted vulnerability, longing, uncertainty, and the feeling that they had to earn their way back to each other.

The first book was emotional, captivating, and impossible to put down because every feeling felt real. This sequel, unfortunately, lacked that same emotional intensity. The characters’ reactions didn’t feel believable for such a life-changing situation, and because of that, the story fell flat for me.

I really wanted to love this book, but instead, I finished it feeling disappointed. The story had so much potential, but it never gave me the emotional payoff I had been waiting for.

Tilly H. Colson has very quickly become an auto-buy author for me. Every book I read leaves a little piece of itself behind, and Sudden Summer was no exception. 🩵

This was such a beautiful, emotional best friends-to-lovers romance that completely stole my heart.

Beau and Birdie already had the kind of friendship everyone dreams of. They were each other’s safe place, biggest supporter, and constant through every season of life. Watching that friendship slowly become something more felt so natural and so rewarding. If you’re a believer in you should always ruin the friendship, this book is absolutely for you. 🥹

Birdie completely captured my heart. She was kind, selfless, and impossible not to love. There were so many moments where I just wanted to reach into the pages and hug her because all I wanted was for her to get the happiness she deserved.

And Beau? He was everything. Patient, protective, and always there when it mattered most. Watching him navigate unexpected fatherhood while realizing his feelings for his best friend made him impossible not to fall for.

I also loved that this wasn’t just a sweet romance. The suspense woven throughout the story kept me completely invested, and there were several emotional moments that genuinely caught me off guard. It balanced tenderness, heartbreak, and hope so beautifully.

I requested this book because it’s part of the series and I did kinda enjoy reading the first one of the series. Both of them have a secret baby trope that works in very different ways, so I was curious how Beau & Birdie’s story would go. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for me.

They indeed could have had so many years together if one of they had spoken up. The potential to be a cute childhood-friends-to-lovers was there, but it truly lacked the yearning of decades of hiding that passion.

I finished the book instead of DNFing it so I guess it’s upped 1 star. There were lots of scenes/moments/developments I didn’t enjoy and I can get into detail but all of them would be spoilers. So, I’ll keep whatever spoilers hidden so anyone who’s reading this can be aware and choose if they’d like to know.

- Romantic development between the MCs. It was too fast for me. I didn’t think it made sense for them to have spent 30+ years being friends (while mutual pining but afraid to say anything, understandable) but then when they finally admit to their feelings - boom.

- It seemed like the MCs suddenly realized he liked her all along Maybe if that conversation happened way before, it would make more sense. I believe that’s why (as I’ve seen mentioned in other reviews) it makes it seem as if he only woke up when he needed her help raising his daughter.

- When they finally start dating, they go from 0 to 100 in a short time.

- Birdie’s sister, Lainey, & her mom. Gotta take a deep breath. They tested my patience. And Birdie had a very hard time setting boundaries which bothered me.

- At first, I didn’t think too deep into the FMC being a virgin because it could be for multiple reasons and I don’t care.

- The tension moment between

- Lastly, the least of my problems but still had me cringing was their nicknames, specifically her calling him Cowboy for some reason was so bleh :/ “But I’m just a cowboy.” “You’re not just a cowboy. You’re my cowboy.” Well… they’re both in their 30s and sound like they’re teens in love.

Tilly is a new-to-me author and I had the pleasure of reading Blue Norther last month which instantly made me excited for this one!

I am always a sucker for a single daddy trope and I love that this one had different twist on that. Sweet baby Juniper, for sure, stole my heart ❤️

The love story between Beau and Birdie was so wholesome and I loved seeing the slow burn of them becoming more than just friends! I also loved that Birdie is a midwife- with me being a nurse this for close to home and felt like I could see some of myself in her.

Definitely recommend if you are looking for wholesome friends to lovers romance with heart warming found family, humor, and a touch of romantic suspense!

I am very grateful to her and the House of Hearts Lit team for the early copy in exchange for my honest thoughts!

Beau and Birdie had me rooting for them from the very beginning. I’m a sucker for a friends-to-lovers romance, and the years of hidden feelings and mutual pining made every moment between them worth the wait.

The surprise baby added so much heart to the story, and watching Beau step into fatherhood while Birdie naturally fit into their little family was incredibly sweet. The small-town ranch setting was cozy, and the suspense storyline kept things interesting without taking away from the romance.

This was a cowboy romance with lifelong friends, found family vibes, adorable baby moments, and a protective hero who would do absolutely anything for the people he loves.

I don’t know what she puts into her books but I cannot put them down. I read this in under 24 hours too and I really enjoyed it ! Not as much as blue norther but still good.

I do have to say though, I don’t find too much of a suspense in this series, I’m loving it just for the romance.

Beau and Birdie are just soulmates, you can see that right from the start. They just get each other. Also I really really adore the Ford family ! The group chat is hilarious 😂 I am beyond excited for Lach and Hayes books !

Thank you for the ARC House of Hearts Lit !
