legitimately awesome.

don't open my spoiler tags if you think you might want to read this, because they really do ruin what was an amazing story.

i got only three problems with this. one small , one medium , and one large .

but mostly, i'm just blown away.

the wealth of storytelling kung-fu here is incredible; the emotion and the humanity of same, even when dealing with familiar characters and tropes—outstanding.

i wept three different times, and chuckled a few times, and—barring my spoilers—generally thought it one of the most imagintive and refreshing stereks i've read.

it's not perfect, and i am pretty sure i am dehydrated from the all the crying, and not from all the vodka—but this story is wonderful, and uplifting, and quite often beautiful.

humor, mystery, magic, and heartbreak—plus a happy ending.

recommended.

seriously.

go read it, and then tell me what you think.

This scene was actually in the fic!

A sweet family story that still had me crying in spots. I loved seeing Stiles and Derek grow closer, and learn to trust in each other. I liked that love had to grow, and that there was no instant connection, or bond. Claude was adorable, but felt like an honest baby, and not some perfect construct. A really nice story.

Re-read 02/10/17 - 02/11/17

Needed a refresher so I could read the third book. Plus, I wanted to try out the new re-reading feature (it's a fail at the moment).

LOVED IT, AGAIN!
-------
Re-read 12/14/15 - 12/15/15

I have nothing new to add. Lisa still writes Sterek exactly how I picture them and I love reading her fics. Obviously.

This book. This fucking book had me experiencing every single emotion that I am capable of feeling. Every single one. I laughed and I cried and I was so freaking scared. I couldn't read it fast enough but kept stopping and going back and re-reading parts. It was such an emotional roller coaster.

Lisa has such a brilliant voice when it comes to Sterek. She portrays Stiles and Derek in the exact way I picture them and I love reading her fics. This one was no exception. I loved it and finished just wanting more, more, more. With that ending how could I not?

Brilliant as always Lisa! 15 chapters in 15 days? Amazing! Thank you!

Must be hormones - a fanfic re-read should not have the power to make you cry! *sniffle* but still love this fic. And the end scene makes me smile.

Sweet Zombie Jesus without doubt a favourite Sterek fic. It's centred around a baby who’s adorable yet real, she brings everyone together with a loud 'BUH!' it's endearing to see how the different characters react.

The Sheriff is wonderful. The sudden-baby situation was treated realistically, Stiles's exhaustion and how everything worked out - it all seemed feasible. There's some heart-break like a punch to the gut and lots of cuteness.

It has the ingredients that make a fic stand out, emotions you can feel; sad, out of depth ones, heart-warming ones and the good happy ones. It's not a dark fic though it does induce lip-biting, mostly its family and love with humour and narration that is all Stiles.

Loved all his little names for Derek.

BUH!

I loved Stiles' voice. This was funny, sweet, fluffy and a little heartbreaking. Damn those alternate realities-someone's always getting screwed.

5 Stars!!

I just want to give a big round of applause and thanks to DiscontentedWinter!

This was like the best shout out to every trope and plot point we all have ever squeed about. There were so many fabulous nods and winks to things we love in terms of certain setups, favorite pairings, nerdy lore (Firefly rules!), personality quirks and superpowers. There were even inside jokes about the things we've exclaimed or bitched or giggled over from all the various fics that we've read (uh hello, Isaac's penchant for scarves). Not to mention featuring the Sheriff as the truly, awesome dad he always is, and appealing to our need for delicious UST and smex.

When I rank 5 star Stereks it's either based on the fun factor or the feels - and this had both and then some!

It was absolutely precious in every moment Derek and Stiles spent with Claudia.
It was absolutely sharp with humor and wickedly smart throughout.
It was absolutely fresh with new insights through banter and inner dialogue, but also oh-so-comforting and familiar in its canon based roots.
And it was absolutely fantastic in showcasing Derek and Stiles's epic love, that of course transcends multiverses! Duh.

There is no point in rehashing the plot.

Just know that this is fucking brilliant. (Scuse my language.)

It competes with the top spot for best Stiles voice ever.

And I am in awe and still reeling at how this drew out so many feels that made me laugh out loud, clap my hands, and wail my grief and then turn me upside down only to dunk me into a vat of unbelievable depth of emotion! Gawd. So. Freaking. Good.

Thank you Meags for insisting!! The angst was worth every fantabulous moment!

I was really shocked at what an emotional read this was and I'm actually having trouble crafting a coherent review because of it. I've noted in other reviews that the best fanfics discover elements in the characters that feel deeply authentic to the originals even if they're never dealt with as fully there. For me, this story is really and truly about what Claudia's death did to Stiles. I have completely personal reasons for focusing on that, because my own mother died before my children were born, and there is just a whole complex of ways that affects becoming a parent, and that parenthood tears open old wounds from that loss. To name a few, terror that you might die and leave your kid like you were left, fierce resentment at the universe for fucking you over, unbearable grief that your mom will never know your kid and vice versa, and an almost insane desperation for her advice and support when things with the baby get hard, which they do. I still can't get over how viscerally these emotions came through without sacrificing the feel-good "miracle of parenthood" stuff. The only aspect where the story didn't fully work for me was that this is so much Stiles' story, Derek felt vague and even like a construct at times. After all, he's very much in Stiles' position, arguably having suffered even greater losses, but mostly he came through as a wishful, supportive presence, not someone who is going through the same turmoil.

That detail felt minor compared with how the rest of the story affected me. Most kidfics I've read have been feel-good, fluff-fests, especially about the kid part, where it's all about healing and joys of being a parent. It was bracing to say the least to read a story that actually faces down the fact that a lot of the time being a parent is the opposite of fluffy--it's gut-wrenching and terrifying in a decidedly uncute, unphotogenic way, ripping open old wounds and breaking you down. The beauty and joy are real, it's just that they almost never show you the blood and tears you have to trudge through to get there.

"Here's a baby that smells like both of us, ergo it's ours. That's not how ergo works, Derek! Ergo needs proof!"

This was just awesome. It was clever and even though sometimes the time travel/parallel universe Stereks melt my brain. Read: most always melt my brain. I really like them. This one was particularly clever as it used that to hit me with the ninja feelz. I thought I was prepared. I was not. More ugly crying and I am a total masochist because it was an awesome way to spend a Friday night. I also had wine and crisps.

I want more but I'm too afraid to read Don't Fail Me Now and that's the only one I haven't read.

I'll just wait patiently for more.*

*(It probably won't be patiently.)

I'm also really tempted to go through this and pull out all the 'wolf' names Stiles had for Derek. They were all adorable!!

I absolutely adored this story. DiscontentedWinter is such a gifted writer. Proper review soon but first it'll be at BMBR because writing this good...I need to word the spread!

Annnnd...here it is, as seen previousl;y at BoyMeetsBoyReviews.

It is fair to say that all of DW/Lisa's Teen Wolf fan fics are amazing. I am super envious of this writer's talent, whatever style she aims for she carries off immaculately - from the heartbreaking Promise You'll Look After Him to the super-cute Bite Marks and Bendy Straws. I can't say I have a favourite among these fictions, but there was something about the amazing feat of writing I Know Where Babies Come From Derek in fifteen days that made me want to review this here at BMBR.

At the beginning, Stiles opens the door to find a baby version of himself on the step...or at least, that's what he thinks. As the fic goes on we find out it isn't baby Stiles but...well, I'll let you discover that. What this fic does so well is embrace the characters we love from the show and capture the best of them.

We see flaily Stiles, serious Stiles, falling in love Stiles, upset Stiles and each incarnation is so perfectly written...he is the most amazing character. Even the actor Dylan O'Brien saw the potential, as he decided to try out for the best friend instead of the star of the show. Great characters make great fiction, and Lisa takes this amazing creation and writes him in the most wonderful ways.

Derek too, the yin to Stiles yang. So opposite in many ways and yet the perfect complementary character. No wonder there is so much fiction written about these two. I don't even want to think about the issue of whether they should be canon or not - I don' think they need to be, the fiction written about them gives us them in so many ways. Here we see Derek as I like him the best. Gruff, unsure, yet so protective. The hurt of his past is never far away from the surface of Derek and fics like this almost let him have some redemption from that. *Happy sigh*.

I can't not mention the Sheriff, Stiles' dad (known as John generally in fic though as yet unnamed in the show). He is, in many, many ways, the silent star of the show and fics. I adore the Sheriff and any fic that has him portrayed as the protective, snarky, can't-deal-with-feelings-but-loves-his-son-more-than-life dad wins me over. He is the unsung hero of Teen Wolf, just a secondary character but the show would lose a lot without him. Besides, this is the man that brought up Stiles and Stiles is the star of the show. Right?

This fic will cover pretty much every emotion possible in the space of one story. Tears - happy and sad. That clenching feeling when you realise they're in love. Stiles and Derek being dads...it really is a brilliant piece of work that left me grinning from ear-to-ear and all kinda gooey inside.

6/8/2016 I loved this just as much today as I did the first time.
2/15/2017 I cannot believe this STILL makes laugh AND ugly cry in the same book. Love, love, love

---------------------original review 3/5/2015-----------------

I cannot put into words how much I enjoyed this. I had some laugh out loud moments, but I also had a few sniffle (ok, UGLY cry) moments. I am starting over from the beginning to read it again. It was just that good.

Thank you, Lisa Henry, for continuing my love (read obsession) for all things Sterek.

All the stars for DiscontentedWinter, and then some..

Every Sterek lover must read this one. What a fantastic fic. I’m honestly not surprised – DW is a fricken champion when it comes to spinning an enchanting tale, which has the power to make you laugh like an idiot one minute, and curl up into the foetal position the next.

I went through four distinct emotional phases while reading this story. It went something like this…

Phase 1: The giggles

The narrative was highly amusing and ridiculously cute (BUH. Fainting goats. "Ergo". Disappearing eyebrows. Feelingsboners)!! I was laughing away, having a grand old time and then... BAM!

Phase 2: Emotional ruin

I was taken off-guard by (what I’m now considering) the greatest Sterek chapter ever written. I cried. I cried hard. I had horridly red, blotchy eyes and there was some snot (gross, but true). Tissues were needed in abundance. It wasn’t pretty.

Phase 3: HOT DAMN!

Things got steamy and I was way, waayyy on board the Sterek sexy-train -- but I was still kind of wrecked from the effects of phase 2, so I was in this really weird emotional space wherein I was turned on but still wanted to cry. It was kinda awkward.

Phase 4: Bone-deep satisfaction

This emotional roller-coaster had a perfect ending. I couldn’t be more pleased.

I think I found my new favourite Sterek.

Re-read: January, 2017

Still as epic a second time around, which is impressive because I wasn't sure if it would have the same emotional impact that it did the first time (i.e. the infamous Chapter 11 ugly-cry effect)...but it did.

They'll make sure she knows that she was so loved he tore holes in the universe to save her.

For whatever reason...

*cough*

*cough*

I seem to be drawn to Sterek (or 'Teen Wolf') fanfiction more than others, despite the fact I have never seen the show *sobs* Canadian Netflix why do you hate me so??

Anyways, this is a cute little story about Stiles finding a baby (who looks a lot like him) on his doorstep one morning and what that means...

Highly cute, hilarious and adorable.

This was really good!

Stiles finds a baby on his doorstep. And what do you know, it smells like Stiles and Derek! They made a baby together. Awwwwwww.
Well, other universe Stiles and Derek did.

Claude (Claudia) is super cute and I loved all the interaction with her and the pack.

But… this is not a fluffy book! It made me cry. Yep, I did all the ugly crying.

Obligatory Sterek and baby (probably photoshopped) GIF. XD

What a joyous ending that was!!!

All I can say this is a fanfic with QUALITY WRITING. Story was well built and paced nicely. Characters were awesome. I love Stiles here. I can call him "The Denial King" but he's adorable. I also loved all the "Sourwolf" variations he said and thought throughout the fanfic.

I still want to feel more though and there are some typos left. But besides that, This. Is. Awesome.

RECOMMENDED!

My very first fanfic read was definitely a good pick. It had just about a little bit of everything, snark, fluff, angst, and managed to make me leak a tear or two. (It also fit in on the TV timeline perfectly for me since I've only watched through the first half of season three.)

I liked you so much I even made you a shelf of your own and will be adding to it very soon.

Now off to find one where Derek gets a bit of his aggressive wolf on.
