About the author

Aaron is an Australian author of children's books and artist who until the mid-2000s was also an actor. His award winning picture books include Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley, The Ghost of Miss Annabel Spoon and the best-selling Pig the Pug.

In the field of acting, he is probably best known for his lead roles in two television dramedies, 1994's The Damnation of Harvey McHugh, for which he won an Australian Film Institute Award, and 2003's CrashBurn, before retiring from performance in 2005.

Pig the Pug is a fibber and a jerk. I don't think he learned a lesson because he still doesn't really care about poor Trevor's feelings. If you ask me, Pig is psychopath. His consequences are just going to make him better at being surreptitious about his evil deeds. Mark my words, Trevor is going to "mysteriously disappear" one day and there will be no evidence indicating foul play but when you look into the supposedly grieving Pig's bulgy eyes all you'll see is satisfaction and darkness.

I was looking for a picture of Trevor's unimpressed face while being punished for Pig's naughtiness but couldn't find one, so here's a different picture because the art in this book cracks me right up.

I guess I’m confused how Pug learned his lesson about fibbing when the injury he received had nothing to do with the lie that he told. Unless it’s just bad karma?

This one is a 3.5 for me simply because I would have loved even more about Pig's misadventures. Of course, there's a great lesson about lying and blaming others for one's misdeeds in this picture book, but the lesson is delivered in such an entertaining way that it goes down easily. It's hard not to love Pig even when he betrays his friend Trevor, and it's equally hard not to feel satisfied that he gets his just desserts. Told in rhyming text, the story recounts the many mistakes and messes Pig makes, all laid at the paws of his canine friend. When he hatches a plan to get Trevor and his human companion out of the house while he snitches some treats from a high shelf, he gets much more than he bargained for. Youngsters will be totally amused by every page of this book. Created with acrylics, the illustrations feature several excellent close-up views of the faces of Pig and Trevor while also using white space carefully. Readers will find it hard to resist those eyes of Pig as he shiftily plans his next move.

That badly-behaved pug returns in this hilarious picture-book, this time revealing just what a rotten little liar he is. "Pig was a pug, / and I'm sorry to say, / he would often tell lies / just to get his own way. / And when he would fib, / he was awfully clever. / When Pig got in trouble... / he would always blame Trevor." So it begins, as Pig constantly shifts the blame. Will he learn his lesson, when one of his schemes, involving a lie about Trevor, goes terribly wrong...?

Although Pig the Fibber is the second book that Australian author/artist Aaron Blabey published about the (mis)adventures of this pug, it is the fifth and latest to be published here in the states. Told in a rollicking rhyme, the story here is quite amusing, and is paired with bright, colorful artwork, done in a cartoon style. Readers familiar with Pig's misdeeds probably won't be surprised by the format, although fans of this piggish pug will no doubt still be entertained by that final page.

So fortunate to hear Aaron Blabey read us his new story starring Pig. This one is particularly funny and a great lesson for children about lying and blaming other people. Poor Pig learns his lesson in the end!

I love Aaron Blabey's illustrations and successful use of rhyme to tell Pig's story. I look forward to purchasing this for our school library.

An absolutely hilarious read for children and adults both! Once we received it in processing at my library, I held a personal storytime for the workers and read it aloud... EVERYONE (all legit adults) were LOLing and it was great. Aaron Blabey did it again with his beautiful illustrations and perfectly coordinating facial emotions!

I have a fondness for both Pugs & Dachshunds (Trevor) and this picture book series has both. Pig (the pug) has a problem he lies ALL the time and blames poor Trevor for his misdeeds. At least until one time his antics backfire and he gets hurt and as he had already gotten Trevor in the doghouse there was no one to blame for this ultimate misdeed/

Meet Pig the Pug, I mean the Fibber! In this book pig wants everything to go his way and he even goes as far as blaming others, but what do you think happens when something doesn’t go his way? This book is an example of Children’s Literature. Children’s Literature can be defined as literature that is intended for children (perceptionsnp). This book was intended for children because the publisher, Scholastic, is a company that many campuses use for their students. For more information, this book is a level 2.0 and I recommend it to second graders.

Pig the Fibber is about a pug who always does bad things and then blames it on another dog. Finally, he tries to steal all the treats and gets caught when a bowling ball falls on his head. I really liked this book because it was short and funny. I liked how it rhymed and it had funny pictures that the kids would like. I would read this to my class when we're going over classroom rules and use it to show that people who lie always get caught eventually.

Pig the Pug did not learn his lesson about being selfish. Now, Pig is lying about things he has done, and who does he blame. Poor Trevor, of course. One day, Pig wants the big bag of treats hidden high in the closet. He thinks up a great fib and gets Trevor sent outside, so he can sneak around and get the treats from the closet. Unfortunately, behind the big bag of treats is a bowling ball. In the end, Pig has learned his lesson and quits blaming Trevor for everything, but does that mean that Pig is done being selfish? I don't know, maybe I'll have to read more.
I thought this book was super cute. I love how Pig looks like a pug with all the wrinkles and the bulging eyes and the scrunched up snout. I also love how the book rhymes a few words; it gives the book a rhythm. I also love the colors. The green on the fart page really sticks out against the rest of the background. This really makes it seem as though it is now part of the air. I love that the closet is dark, but lit enough to read 'Jumbo Dog Biscuits.' In a way, it shows what our eyes are supposed to be drawn to on the page. Overall, I really enjoy this series. I think its really cute. It also teaches some valuable lessons about being selfish.
I can use this book in my classroom to teach rhymes. We can read through the book together once. Then we can read through it again to search for the rhymes. Then we can in our own homemade books. We can then sing songs with rhymes in them such as Down by the Bay. We can practice making our own rhymes. I can also use this book to teach my students manners. I can ask them about a time they had fibbed or lied. Then I can ask them if they had had any consequences for their lying. I can then ask them how they felt when they received their consequence. Then we can talk about another way they could have handled the situation.

Summary: Pig is a pug who lives with a family and another dog, Trevor. Pig often tells lies in order to get his way and do what he wants. When he gets caught, however, he always places the blame on Trevor. The book follows the relationship between Pig and Trevor and the many antics they go through due to Pig’s behavior.

Personal Response: I absolutely adore this book! It is equally funny as it is heartfelt, sending an important yet brief message to children about the consequences of lying.

Recommendation: With an average of 2-3 lines per page, this book would be great for second and third graders and an even better read aloud tool! I would recommend this book to any and every elementary library, as well as the entire “Pig the Pug” series!

This is a fun, interactive, and silly book! This is one of the many books from the "Pig The Pug" series and the lesson that the pug learns is that there are consequences when you tell a lie. Throughout the book there are enjoyable and silly illustrations that are sure to keep the reader interested.

I chose this book because even though it is silly and would get the kids excited, it is so much more than that. There are similes, rhymes, metaphors, tier 2 vocabulary, and life lessons that are represented in a kid friendly way. This book would be best for kindergarten-4th grade. In Pig the Fibber, Pig is up to no good. The reader will witness Pig getting into loads of trouble. Then, Pig blames everything on Trevor. In the end, Pig learns his lesson after a bowling ball falls right on top of him. To me, this book was okay-not the worst but definitely not my favorite. I do like how the text is written in rhyme because it makes it fun for the reader. However, I can not get over the illustrations. I did not like them at all. They were very creepy, and they gave me Halloween vibes. Although, this book gives off a good message- do not lie, I just feel like there are other books that share the same message and also have gentler illustrations. My only concern is for Trevor- that poor little dog.

"Pig the Fibber" is a book about a pug who likes to tell lies and blame them on his friend, Trevor. Pig goes on telling lie after lie and blaming Trevor for the things he's done wrong, until one day his lies get the best of him and he is forced to stop telling him. I thought this book was hilarious and really creative. I think students would really enjoy it. "Pig the Fibber" is a story that would not only make kids laugh, but teach them a lesson about lying. It would open up good discussion in a classroom about how it makes other people feel when we lie, and how we feel when we lie. I also think that because this book rhymes, it could be a really unique addition to a poetry unit!

Learning how to be honest and take responsibility for one's actions is an important lesson for children. This cute picture book uses lively, rhyming text and humorous illustrations to tell about the unkind way that he treats the other family dog, Trevor. Pig engages in a number of naughty acts - making messes, ripping clothing, stealing food - and then makes sure that Trevor gets blamed for all of them. When Pig finally suffers a consequence for his actions, he decides that maybe it would be better to behave himself. This book might be a good way to start a discussion with young children about why it's important to be honest and how to be a better friend to those around us.

In Pig the Fibber, Pig learns that you can’t tell whoppers without it coming back on you. The dog is a cut-up in more ways than one. He does everything he’s not supposed to, and when confronted, he points his paw at little Trevor. When he lays an egg that fills the entire house with stink, poor Trevor pays the price. But not for long. As always, Pig takes a chance and boy does he pay for it!

Pig the Fibber shows children that you can not tell lies and get away with it. And if you do, not for very long. The pictures are eye-candy and the rhyme is the best. I love the Pig series. Check it out!

Pig the Pug is a liar. Whenever he does something bad, he blames, Trevor, the dachshund. Poor Trevor, what did he ever do to deserve this? After blaming Trevor for a particularly stinky fart, Pig has the house to himself and takes the opportunity to score some extra treats. He gets knocked out by a bowling ball, which cures him of his lying ways. Not sure that the punishment exactly fits the crime in this case, but all's well that ends well as far as Trevor is concerned. Cute illustrations and clever verse, but lackluster story.

Let sleeping dogs lie? No. Pig the pug is a fibber. He gets into trouble and blames everything on Trevor the dachshund. Then one day his plan backfires. He blames a smelly expulsion on Trevor and while Trevor is put outside, Pig pulls down the big bag of treats in the closet. What he didn't know was that there was a bowling ball behind the bag. It hit him on the head leaving him bruised and truthful from that day on.

In the end, Pig learns his lesson when a booking ball lands on his head. This book was okay. I liked the way it was written but the illustrations are not my favorite. Even though this book does give a good message to kids, there are other books that give the same message with better illustrations.
