Lachlan Ford

Three years ago, an accident changed everything.

My leg. My mind. My future.

Nothing is how it was supposed to be.

I've lived at the Silver Ridge Ranch my whole life, but these days, my world ends at my front porch. Every step beyond it feels impossible. My mind is a prison of fear, rituals, and memories that won't let go, reminding me I'll never be the man I was. Never be strong enough to protect myself—or the people I love.

My family keeps telling me to fight my way back. They mean well. But every word of encouragement only adds to the noise already screaming inside my head.

Then there's Lainey Calloway.

Week after week, she shows up to my house with warm meals, sharp wit, and just enough stubborn determination to coax me one step farther than I managed the day before. And as time goes on, I stop dreading her visits... and start looking forward to them.

There's only one problem.

She's engaged. Pregnant. And hiding behind a smile that's fooling everyone except me. Because the bruises wrapped around her arm tell a story she refuses to.

When Lainey appears on my doorstep in the middle of a raging storm with nowhere safe left to go, I don't hesitate. I'll give her a place to stay. A place to breathe. A place to heal.

Somewhere along the way, my house stops feeling like a prison. It becomes a home. And Lainey? She stops being the woman I'm protecting and becomes the reason I find the courage to face the world again.

For the first time since the accident, I want more than survival.

I want a future.

And I'll do whatever it takes to keep Lainey—and the baby she's carrying—safe. Even when it means facing every fear I've spent the last three years hiding from.

Some romances take their time getting to the good stuff, but the emotional connection here had me invested from the start.

Lainey and Lachlan felt so naturally suited to each other, especially in the way they became a source of comfort and understanding through everything they were facing. Lachlan was such a standout for me, with his gentle, protective nature and the effort he put into becoming better for himself and the people he loved.

The mental health representation added so much depth, particularly Lainey’s experience with postpartum depression and Lachlan’s struggles with OCD and PTSD. Their individual healing journeys were difficult at times, but I appreciated how much care went into showing them learning to lean on each other without losing themselves. Lainey occasionally tested my patience with some of her choices, but her love for Lachlan and the way she understood and accepted him made their relationship feel incredibly genuine.

This was definitely an emotional read, with heavier storylines woven throughout, but the tenderness, found family, and slow-building romance gave me plenty to hold onto.

Watching these two find safety, trust, and happiness together made the emotional journey feel worthwhile, and the payoff was exactly what I wanted from their story.

I have been waiting for Lainey and Lachlan’s story, and I just knew it was going to be one that ripped my heart completely out. These two have been through so much, and honestly, they were the perfect match for each other. I absolutely adored them both.

Throughout this book, Tilly gives us the raw and imperfect characters that I have come to love from her writing. We see the dark moments these characters experience and watch them desperately try to claw their way back out. Mental health representation plays such a significant role in this story, and my heart absolutely ached for both Lainey and Lachlan.

Just know that if you’re going into this book, you are going to cry. But you’re also going to laugh, fall in love, and become even more attached to the Ford family.

Derecho was emotional, heartbreaking, beautiful, and everything I had hoped Lainey and Lachlan’s story would be. Tilly absolutely delivered, and I loved every single moment of this journey.

⚠️ CONTENT WARNING: PLEASE TAKE THESE SERIOUSLY ⚠️

I would strongly urge anyone picking up this book to read the content warnings carefully and take every single one of them seriously, because every heavy subject mentioned at the beginning of this book is taken to the extreme.

And honestly?

What the hell did I just read?

I went into this expecting a small-town romance. Instead, the romance was buried underneath OCD, PTSD, domestic violence, pregnancy complications, postpartum depression, custody battles, and the death of a beloved secondary character who had been part of this author's world for TWO series.

And Danny's death especially pissed me off.

He did not need to die.

It added shock value and apparently helped push Hayes into guilt, but I could not see a single reason the story actually needed him gone. I wish authors would sometimes be a little more loyal to the characters we've spent multiple books getting attached to.

Because this was already an incredibly heavy story without killing another character just to twist the knife.

And then there's Lainey.

This woman frustrated the hell out of me.

She repeatedly says she's selfish. Fine. At least she's self-aware.

Except she keeps making selfish decisions anyway.

She knows Greg is dangerous. She knows she needs to leave. She has people willing to help her leave. She has somewhere to go.

And she still stays.

I can absolutely understand why someone in an abusive relationship might feel trapped, scared, or unable to leave. But Lainey knew the situation was dangerous and had a genuine support system around her. Watching her repeatedly recognize that she needed to get out and then do absolutely nothing about it was incredibly frustrating.

And the coffee-can money?

Ma'am. Be serious.

You are in an unsafe situation and your brilliant escape plan is hiding money in a coffee can?

Then there's Birdie.

Lainey keeps talking about wanting to fix things with her sister after everything that happened in the previous book, but again, she doesn't actually take the first step. She keeps pushing her away when Birdie wants to help and hurting her more because of it.

Same with Jessie. She says she wants to apologize, but waits until Jessie comes to her before she finally does it.

That became the pattern with Lainey throughout the book.

She knows what needs to happen.

She talks about what needs to happen.

And then she waits for someone else to make the first move.

The worst example was during the pregnancy.

Her midwife sister repeatedly tells her she could go into labor at any moment. Lainey knows a storm is coming. She knows Lachlan is dealing with serious mental health struggles and may not handle an emergency well.

And she still chooses to stay at his house because she wants to be with him.

So now she's putting herself at risk, potentially putting the baby at risk, and knowingly putting Lachlan into a situation he already told her he wasn't equipped to handle.

That one had me screaming at the book.

The postpartum depression chapters, though, were a completely different kind of difficult.

Those were heartbreaking.

I felt so much sympathy for Lainey for everything she was experiencing, and the writing made it clear how badly she was struggling. But sympathy doesn't mean I enjoyed reading it. Those chapters were incredibly heavy and honestly some of the hardest parts of the book to get through.

Which brings me to Lachlan.

This man was the reason I kept reading.

Despite everything he was dealing with, Lachlan was kind, generous, and incredibly caring. More importantly, he actively wanted to get better.

He didn't just acknowledge his OCD and PTSD and expect everyone around him to accommodate him forever. He took actual steps to work on himself because he loved Lainey and Reid. He was a pillar of support and strength for her while she struggled through PPD.

And I really appreciated that.

There was something incredibly endearing about watching him try, even when he was struggling.

I also can't deny that Lainey genuinely loved him.

For all my frustration with her choices, there were so many moments where she was conscious of Lachlan's mental health, checked on him, tried to support him, and considered what certain situations would do to him.

So while I didn't always like Lainey, I absolutely believed that these two loved each other.

And honestly, that was one of the few things that made all the emotional turmoil worth pushing through.

This book just wasn't the small-town romance experience I was expecting. The romance had to compete with an almost relentless parade of trauma, and for me, the heavier storylines often overshadowed the relationship I actually wanted to read about.

I know fiction doesn't have to be happy and fluffy. I'm completely fine with difficult subjects.

But this was A LOT.

And then you add Danny's death on top of everything else, and at some point I was just sitting there thinking:

AUTHOR, HAVE YOU CONSIDERED LETTING THESE PEOPLE BREATHE?

Because apparently the answer was no.

I didn't hate the book because the writing was bad. I hated how relentlessly miserable the story became.

Lachlan was wonderful. The love between him and Lainey was real. And I appreciated that both of them, in their own ways, genuinely cared about each other.

But this was one of those books where finishing it felt more like surviving it than enjoying it.

And I am begging authors: sometimes your characters have suffered enough.

Lachlan stole my heart. Gentle, protective, and trying so hard to be better. Lainey frustrated me at times, but I loved how they understood and supported each other. The mental health struggles made this a heavy read, but the romance and found family gave me all the feels.

"Derecho" by Tilly H. Colson is the third novel in her Silver Ridge Ranch series and features Lainey (FMC) and Lachlan's (MMC) story. It is a very powerful age-gap, not-his-baby romance and character study with a heaping dose of mental health and postpartum depression awareness. Lainey has her own meal delivery business and loves cooking. She brings Lachlan meals every week since he was in an accident and is now agorophobic and doesn't leave his house. The two of them form a friendship neither of them saw coming. Lainey is pregnant with her abusive boyfriend Greg's child and is saving up to leave her situation. When it all falls apart, she finds herself seeking solace in Lachlan, who leaves his house for the first time in a long time to come to her aid. After Lainey has her baby, she stays with Lachlan for the time being until she can get a place of her own, since she was left with nothing when Greg kicked her out. The more time Lainey and Lachlan spend together, the more they get to know each other deep down inside and help one another heal from the wounds of their past. This book is so much deeper than I expected, in a good way. I loved Tilly H. Colson's last book, and I feel just about the same about this book. It's quite different from her last story, but I am not complaining. At its core, this is a classic story about two broken people coming together to heal themselves both on their own and together. I love the way Lachlan loved Lainey, slowly and tenderly at first, in both big and little ways, how he always protected her, how he always stood by what she cared about and defended her, even when the voices in her head told her something drastically different, how he loved her son as fiercely as if he were his own, no questions asked. I love how Lainey adored and accepted the parts of Lachlan that he thought were broken, and how protective she was over her new baby, how she learned through Lachlan's patience and understanding that she deserved more than what the horrendous Greg was giving her. They don't seem like they'd work together on paper, but they really do work together in practice. This book is absolutely a slow-burn, but I think the payoff was worth it in the end. I am not a parent, but the way Tilly H. Colson describes postpartum depression and the trouble mothers face early on in motherhood feels accurate, dire, and horrendous, but also filled with so much love, joy, and happiness at the same time. I cannot imagine going through all of those feelings and changes while also having to take care of a newborn, so shoutout to all of the mothers out there doing the darn thing. I really enjoyed this book, but just know it is a heavier one for sure.

Thank you to Tilly H. Colson and House of Hearts Lit. for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.

I always find the hardest reviews to write are the ones for the books I love the most, as I want to make sure that I’m pouring the all the love I have for the book into words. And this is also the case when it comes to Derecho. 🥹

This is my current favourite by Tilly, and one of my absolute favourite reads this year. It was so easy to tell how much love, care, heart and soul she poured into this beautiful book. Especially by including her own experiences, which painted the characters’ struggles in such a realistic and respectful way. To me, it also made this book that much more special. 🥹🩵

From seeing parts of Lach and Lainey’s stories in previous books, I knew this one was going to hurt. Did I expect to cry only few pages in? Not really, but I probably should have. My heart was aching for both of these lovely characters from very early on, and I just wanted to give them each the biggest hug, protect them from the world and their own minds, and I couldn’t wait for them to get their happily ever after!

Tilly made us WORK for it through many ups and downs, but my god, we got to experience so many absolutely BEAUTIFUL moments between Lach and Lainey.

Tilly writes the connection between her main characters in a way that makes you truly believe their souls are connected. The way these two saw each other, bared all their broken and raw pieces to each other, and found safety and understanding in one other! The kindness and care they showed each other, even when their own minds weren’t the kindest places for them to be! The way they helped each other find the strength to heal, and supported each other as they learned to stand on their own two feet! It was such a wonderful journey to follow, even though I definitely cried like a million times!!! 😭

Lainey, my girl! 🧎🏼‍♀️ She was so easy to love, despite thinking she wasn’t. The way she cared about Lachlan and always checked in on him, but also pushed him when his mind was holding him back, made me absolutely melt. I wanted to protect her from everything and everyone, and also make sure that she knows how loved and cherished and wanted she was. 🫂 Her going through PPD was breaking my heart, but I also really appreciated the representation and awareness it brought to the subject.

Lachlan!! I don’t think I have the words to describe how wonderful, supportive, caring and understanding this man was. The safe space he crated for Lainey and her baby! 🥹 The mental and physical obstacles he’s overcome to be able to protect them and care for them, and the work he’s put in to become the best version of himself. I’m definitely not tearing up just thinking about him!! 😭

And of course - the dad who stepped in (the reason why I love “not his baby” trope so much), and showed so much unconditional love to Lainey and Reid. 🥹🩵

These two finding their person who understood them to their very soul, loved them to their very cores, and reminded them of that love and the safety they were in when their mind were trying to convince them otherwise, was literally EVERYTHING to me!!! 😭🩵

I literally stalled so much when getting to the end of Derecho, because I never wanted it to end. I just wanted to see Lainey, Lach and Reid happy and safe and in love!

It was such a beautiful book, and I loved following these two on their healing journey, and finding the love and happiness they both deserved. 🩵

Thank you so much Tilly and House of Hearts for this ARC!

My first Tilly book and it won’t be my last. I can’t wait to go back into this series and read the other books!

This was an emotional rollercoaster of a book, but such a beautiful story! I felt so deeply for Lainey & Lach. Both dealing with their own struggles separately, but together these two were just so perfect. I love how they were able to become a safe space for one another.

Lainey is a strong FMC, dealing with pregnancy and an unimaginable ex. Lach, the man is swoony, protective, but battling his own demons. I loved getting both of their backstories into their trauma & watching them both grow from it!!

The found family in this book was so good. I just loved so many of these characters and cannot wait to go back into their books. This was definitely a sloooow burn, but so worth it for their story & the chemistry they ended up showing!

I laughed, I cried, and I swooned over these two!! Absolutely loved this story!! Especially the mental health rep it had. It was done so well! Thank you Tilly Colson and team for this arc copy!!

I have never felt so SEEN in a book! 😭

Derecho completely hit me straight to my SOUL. I knew as soon as I read the blurb that this book was going to hit close to home but not only did I relate to Lach’s story, but also Lainey’s too.

Tilly has a gift of showing true raw emotional mental health representation. It felt as if she knows my own story.

Watching Lach & Lainey be there for each other and help HEAL one another was absolutely breathtaking!

This was easily a INFINITE STAR BOOK! Tilly made me laugh, cry, swoon, relate, literally every emotion was checked!

This has been a INCREDIBLE series and I’m going to be so sad when it ends!

5 big beautiful stars!!

Derecho ripped out my heart and then slowly, piece by piece, put it all back together. There are so many emotional layers woven into this story, and it’s so much more than a sweet love story. It’s heartbreak, healing, vulnerability, grief, hope, and so much emotional depth packed into these pages.

And the representation in this book really hit home for me.

The OCD representation was thoughtfully done, but the postpartum depression representation was what truly broke me open. I personally had a really difficult struggle with postpartum depression, so reading a story that captured so clearly what so many women experience after giving birth was incredibly emotional for me.

There was something deeply cathartic and healing about seeing those experiences represented on the page. It reminded me that I wasn’t alone in what I went through, and sometimes that reminder is everything.

I also absolutely loved the slow build of Lainey and Lachlan’s relationship. Watching them find their way toward each other, learn how to heal, and slowly become a safe place for one another was beautiful. They don’t magically fix each other. They heal together, standing beside each other through the messy parts, and I loved that so much.

Derecho was emotional, messy, tender, and deeply human. It reminded me that healing doesn’t always mean going back to who you were before. Sometimes healing means learning how to move forward while carrying the pieces of yourself that are still finding their way back together—and finding someone who understands those pieces along the way.

Thank you to Tilly H. Colson for writing a story that made me feel so deeply and for a gifted ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts!

I had so many ups and downs with this book. I think some editing to take away repetitive scenes is needed. So many interesting storylines started but then never came back to or resolved too quickly. Jessie gets mad at her and rips her a new one and then the next day is like “okay we are fine i wanna be friends again”.
ALSO this book has moments where either some AI editing messed up contradicting info or it feels like clunky writing. Mainly there is a part in (let’s call it) the epilogue where hayes says that the fire was down the road from the bookstore BUT THEN right after Hadley is talking about how she got everyone out and called the fire department and made sure customers were safe…. huh???
Also agree Daniel didn’t need to die. If we needed to push Hayes into guilt, make him be hurt and then give a good plot line for father son bonding in the next book.
Final thought is that this book could have used a bit more info in a flashback to explain the Dakota storyline rather than assuming people have read the other series. There was truly nothing in this book that could explain what happened so you just have to agree to know nothing other than Dakota was involved somehow in the night Lach got hurt.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Oh my heart— Lach and Lainey broke it, then stitched it right back up. This is one of the best slow burns I've read in a long time! There's a depth to the emotional intimacy here that goes beyond lust or initial attraction, and puts the reader firmly in mutual yearning territory. I absolutely loved the way that these two found solace from their mental health struggles in each other, and how different yet similar they both found themselves to be. Lach's tentative opening up was paced just right, and seeing him open doors for himself when they previously felt impossible to reach was really healing to see on page. Reading a pregnancy trope like this was so refreshingly different. Lainey is scared to become a mom, she experiences postpartum depression and anxiety, and she doesn't shy away from saying the tough things out loud to Lach, even when it frightens her to admit. Her strength in the face of immeasurable adversity brought tears to my eyes. Speaking of tears.... the ending of this book really did break me. I am so thrilled to see how Hayes's story unfolds in Firestorm based on the ending we got in Derecho. If you've been looking for a romance that's going to place a heavy emphasis on healing, emotional intimacy, and character growth, this is the romance for you— and quite frankly, this whole series is! Special from start to finish, and will stick with me for a long time. Thank you to Tilly Colson and House of Hearts Lit for providing me with an advanced copy. Derecho by Tilly H. Colson is book 3 in the Silver Ridge series, and I’ve been obsessed with this series! This book is my favorite so far.

What can you expect?
🏡 Small-town romance
🤰 Not his baby
🐢 Slow burn
🔍 Light suspense
🧠 Mental health representation (OCD, agoraphobia)
😤 Grumpy x grumpy

5 ⭐ | 2 🌶️

After a traumatic accident three years ago, Lachlan is dealing with more than just a physical disability. He has a scarred leg and needs a cane to walk, but he’s also struggling with OCD, anxiety, and agoraphobia. He’s spent years mostly locked inside his house. He’s doing much better now and can make it to the porch, but leaving the ranch? That’s a big no.

Lainey, or “Trouble” as Lachlan calls her, is nine months pregnant, and her fiancé is absolute trash. She’s trying to build her food delivery business, but he constantly takes advantage of her and takes everything away from her.

When Lachlan discovers that Lainey’s car doesn’t have AC, he finds a reason to help her fix it. Before his accident, he owned a mechanic shop, so working on her car gives him a purpose to help her. But when he realizes she’s in trouble with her fiancé, Lachlan does something he hasn’t done in years; he leaves the ranch for her.

Eventually, Lainey runs away after her fiancé becomes abusive and she realizes she can’t stay there anymore. That’s when Lachlan offers her his guest room, giving her and her baby a safe place to stay.
I didn’t like Lainey at first, especially because of how she treated Birdie, but she was young and didn’t know how to deal with her mother’s abandonment and everything she had been through. She pushed people away and treated them poorly because she had always believed she was difficult to love.

With Lachlan, she finally felt cared for and safe, something she had never really experienced before. She’s determined to be a good mom, but she’s also scared about becoming one. And even though Lainey had made mistakes in the past, the Fords welcomed her and made sure she and her baby had everything they needed.

I loved Lachlan and Lainey together because, despite both of them being broken in their own ways, they found support and understanding in each other. They communicate, they talk about difficult things, and they’re always there for one another.

I especially loved that Lainey never looked at Lachlan as less because of his disability. His scarred leg is something he’s very self-conscious about, and he believes no one could love him exactly as he is. I loved seeing Lainey show him that he was wrong. She saw him, accepted him, and loved him as he was.

Lachlan is in therapy and still working through his demons, but with Lainey, he found another reason to keep pushing forward. When Lainey had her baby, things became really difficult. Her postpartum depression and anxiety caused her to push him away, but Lachlan never gave up on her. The reality was that he was in love with her, and he was determined to protect her and her baby from her ex, who was still looking for trouble.

I really appreciated how these difficult mental health topics were handled with care and respect. I loved Lainey’s portrayal and how the story showed some of the struggles a woman can experience after giving birth. It took them some time to figure out what was happening, but once Lainey realized she needed help, she asked for it, and I loved that.

They were truly perfect for each other. I also loved Jess being worried that Lainey’s struggles would make Lachlan’s mental health worse, only to see the opposite happen. The Ford family was so supportive and understanding of Lainey. She had never had that kind of family before, and now she finally found it with the Fords.

I also loved seeing her try to repair her relationship with Birdie. There was so much growth for her throughout the story, and I loved seeing everything come full circle.

The romance is very sweet. It’s a slow burn, but it’s so worth it! The spice comes later, but this book is much more about building that intimate emotional connection and really getting to know each other before taking things further. And when they finally do… Let’s just say the maternal milk scene was definitely HOT.

I could go on and on about this story, but if you haven’t started this series yet, you need to! You won’t regret it.

Thanks to Tilly H. Colson and House of Hearts for the gifted copy — all opinions are my own.

Derecho is the beautiful story of two broken people finding comfort in each other and helping put each other back together. It was an emotional rollercoaster, but so beautiful.

I have been waiting for Lachlan’s story since they introduced him earlier in the series. Hearing his full backstory was so emotional, but it also made you understand why he was the way he was and why it was so hard for him to leave his house. He stood by Lainey through everything she was going through, and she was exactly what he needed.

Hearing Lainey’s backstory (especially everything with awful Greg) was really hard to read. She didn’t deserve how she was treated, especially when she was pregnant. Even with everything she was going through, she was supportive of Lach and saw him as not broken. It was like they were each other’s safe space.

The way I was NOT expecting the book to end the way it did… my jaw dropped, and I just stared at my Kindle thinking, “Did that really just happen?”

Tilly writes such a good found family, and I loved seeing all my favorite characters again. I’m so excited for Hayes’s story, even though I know it will destroy me!

Derecho by Tilly H. Colson

"You touch me like I'm precious. Like I'm breakable. Like you would burn the world down just to keep me safe, even if it meant sacrificing yourself."

I previously read Sudden Summer, book two of the Silver Ridge Ranch Series, and was immediately intrigued by Lachlan and Lainey. I didn't really like her in that book, but I could tell girl was going through it. I sensed a redemption arc, and the author totally delivered! Lachlan and Lainey are struggling hardcore. But somehow, they are both able to help each other become better versions of themselves and end up falling in love.

Definitely read the trigger warnings before starting. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. This one is rough and gritty but very realistic. It's also beautiful and full of healing. I'm still upset about a certain character as I'm writing this. But, I see why it had to happen. It's setting up the next story for Hayes and Hadley, which looks like it is going to tie all the suspense up nicely. I can't wait to head back to the Silver Ridge Ranch.

I received an ARC of this book, but these opinions are my own. I would like to thank the author, Tilly H. Colson, and House of Hearts Lit for allowing me the privilege of reading her work. ❤️

Every single time I pick up a book by Tilly I fall in love all over again. This is in my opinion her best work yet and if I could rate it higher than 5 star I would.

So emotional and absolutely beautiful. This one definitely tugged on every emotion.
Tilly explored some harder topics with such a gentle ease and compassion.

Lachlan, the biggest green flag teddy bear man I have ever seen. 💯 percent in love with him and his downright love for Lainey and her son.
Lainey, that beautiful soul. My heart broke for her and then by the end I was crying happy tears. She’s one of my favorite FMCs.

Overall this one gets all the stars for giving me all the emotions I needed and then more. I absolutely can’t wait to read her next book! Hayes was one of my favorite side characters and I can’t wait to see his story. I’m already counting down the days!

I loved the trust and the strength these two found in one another. Lachlan and Lainey were amazing characters. The way she gently, yet determinedly pushed Lachlan to keep trying was great. And she was never mean to him about it. Never let him down, always stayed positive while working with him. And when she showed up on his porch one night with nowhere else to go, he didn’t hesitate to take her in. I absolutely loved the relationship they already had between one another. Even though it was on a professional level. But it put things in motion when they found they wanted more. I adored these two and the way they were there for one another no matter what. This really grabbed my heart and held it.

I loved watching two “broken” people find each other while also finding themselves. I adored the slow burn between Lachlan and Lainey and how their relationship was built on friendship first. Writing Lainey’s character couldn’t have been easy, especially since she was unlikable in the other books. But Tilly Colson did such a beautiful job of making Lainey feel seen without excusing her mistakes.

The OCD, postpartum depression, and overall mental health representation were handled so well. The communication was top tier!

The ending was so sad, but it goes to show that life is not perfect. I CANNOT wait for Hayes’ book. I highly suggest reading Books 1 and 2 to really understand the family dynamics and suspense elements that is woven throughout the series — 4 stars!

Not an ARC read. I ran across this recommended to me based off other books on KU that I have recently read.
I wasn't sure I would make it through this book, but I'm not a quitter, so I powered through.

This book had so much repetition, Lachlan with his OCD and anxiety. Don't get me wrong, the author did the types of experiences he was having justice, but it just never stopped every other page, same thing, worded practically the same way.
Then there's Lainey, the way she acted towards Lachlan during her postpartum depression had me annoyed, again totally understand the PPD she was experiencing, but they were "roommates" at that time. Don't get me started on how they had no real chemistry, just that he wanted to be the hero and ended up having something else to be compulsive about.
We never really got anywhere with their relationship, she just moved in to be safe from her DV relationship, Lachlan became obsessive with taking care of her and her unborn baby, he helps her give birth after she completely disregarded her midwife sister telling her she needed to be with her during the storm, what do you know, we never would of saw the next part coming. The whole book was predictable, with no real depth and the end of the book was a random chapter POV from one of the MMC brothers leading to the next book in the series. We didn't get an epilogue, just a plug for you to continue the series.

This series is everything ! I love all the characters soo much !

Lach and Lainey 🥹🥹🥹 I went into this book not really liking Lainey but her redemption ARC was soo good I ended up falling in love with her. I loved how this story shows how two broken people come together to heal each other 🥹 Lach has my whole heart !

My ONLY complain is, what happened at the end 😭😭😭 why did that need to happen !!?!? (iykyk) that broke my heart and I did sob 😭

I cannot wait for Hayes’s book but at the same time I don’t want this series to be over 🥹

Thank you to House of Hearts Lit for providing me with the ARC !

Lach and Lainey seriously had such a beautiful & healing story. I was so emotional reading this and honestly, a lot of the things that these characters go through are things that I myself have felt. As a mom, I really saw a lot of my motherhood experience in Lainey and I just love the way that Tilly writes such real character.

Lach had his own past hurt that he was navigating but from the very beginning, never failed to show up for Lainey.

I loved watching these two come together and I will be emotionally changed forever by this book.

This was a tough read. Both main characters trauma is very real and absolutely gutting at points. Even though they are on a healing journey, for a large portion of the book neither of them feels like they deserve to heal or be happy, which was heartbreaking.

The heavy themes are very well written, it’s a good story and continues the family dynamics from the previous book, but don’t go into it expecting a lighthearted romance.

Lainey & Lachlan finding each other and healing together was so beautiful. I want another book of them continuing to grow😅.

I loved the representation of postpartum and how that can be so different for different people.

Probably my favorite of the series so far! (But I love them all)

The emotion and suspense/stress of this book made it hard to put down.

Both Lachlan and Lainey have their own things to work through but both were there to help and support the other at the same time.

Can’t wait for Hayes’ book next 🥹

It started good but it got very long winded after the 50% mark. I like that ir was only 2% spice, the story was good, Greg and Jasmine pissed me the fuck off. And killing Daniel was so unnecessary lol
The guy was good but I feel like was a pushover? The girl actually pissed me off.
