We Are Never Ever Solving This Murder
Not yet published
Expected 5 Jan 27A fake detective agency. A real murder. And some very real sparks between the amateur sleuths attempting to solve it—unravel the clues in this captivating rom-com mystery from the author of Definitely Maybe Not a Detective.
Emersyn Gray is seriously rethinking her recent decision to become a private detective. As much as she needs the money, following cheating husbands and catching them in compromising positions isn’t exactly the way Emersyn wants to spend her days.
But then a potential new client approaches Wyatt Investigations, wanting to hire Emersyn and her colleague, Wyatt, to look into the death of her brother, who seemed perfectly fine until he got a job at a local funeral home. There, he became secretive and withdrawn . . . before turning up dead. The police ruled his death an accident, but his sister is certain he was murdered. Emersyn, having lost her own brother less than a year ago, simply can’t say no to the grieving sister.
When Emersyn and Wyatt take on the case, they soon suspect that the funeral home is a front for something sinister. With buried secrets aplenty, Emersyn and Wyatt must navigate a winding investigative path with more tripping hazards than an overgrown cemetery. Add to that their undeniable chemistry and the fact that they can’t agree on who’s in charge of their agency, and the pair are left with a casket full of troubles as they try to dig up the truth before they end up digging their own graves.

I really enjoyed this second book in the Wyatt Investigations series! Emersyn and Wyatt continue investigating together, this time looking into the suspicious death of a man whose sister believes he was murdered at a funeral home. I especially enjoyed the lively group of residents at the Deco Mirage, where Emersyn and her niece live, including Theo, a seventeen-year-old computer genius who is the brains of their investigation.
Wyatt is the son of a supermodel and is very wealthy. I wondered at first why he wanted Emersyn to work with him. She doesn’t appear to have any special detective skills, but she’s good with people and has a knack for sensing when something isn’t right. I also think Wyatt liked being with her. I enjoyed watching them grow closer as their slow-burn romance developed.
I enjoy cozy mysteries with humor and romance, and this was a fun, suspenseful story. Thank you to the author, Bantum and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. My full review will be at Spoonerreads.com closer to the review date, January 5th.

I read the first book a coupleof days before this one, and I'm officially attached to the entire Wyatt Investigations crew. This time Emersyn and Wyatt investigate a suspicious death connected to a funeral home. The mystery was fun, although there were a few moments when I had to stop questioning their investigative methods and just go with it.
What really has me hooked on this series is the cast. Theo remains the seventeen-year-old computer genius who might actually be the brains of Wyatt Investigations, while Leona, Bitty, Jemma, and the rest of the Deco Mirage residents continue to support Emersyn while driving her crazy.
I also love that Emersyn's grief over her brother hasn't disappeared. She's trying to build a stable life for Livvy while figuring out her own future, and now Wyatt is becoming an increasingly important part of that future. Speaking of Wyatt, this slow burn is getting GOOD. Their banter has changed since those kisses in book one, and I am very invested in seeing where this goes.
Thank you to the publisher, the author, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and to Ballantine for the ARC of We Are Never Ever Solving This Murder by Sarah Fox.
I actually read the first book in this series about 2 weeks ago, and thought it was such fun, and this sequel continues to deliver. If anyone is a fan of Lucy Score's Riley Thorn series, this is a perfect alternative with the same level of banter, romance, and wit. It would be best to read the first book prior to this one.
The book description is accurate to the book itself, and, because it is a mystery, I don't want to expand too much on that to avoid spoilers. It takes place just a few weeks following the first book.
I think Fox does a great job of centering Emersyn's grief from the death of her brother and taking on the care of her niece -- the aspects of this in the first book were really visceral, and there are scenes again in this book that show Emersyn trying to cope and trying to stabilize her and Livvy's lives in ways that feel realistic, even in a cozy mystery where those vulnerable emotions sometimes get put in the backseat to keep things cheery. We also see more growth in how Emersyn views and treats Wyatt, which was refreshing given all the avoidance in the first book, and in this one we also see it based less around Emersyn being confused by this stranger and more around how this new friend can actually fit in her complicated life. I thought the growth with their banter and relationship in this book was really sweet.
The one thing that frustrates me a bit about Emersyn is how she does not at all seem interested in actually being a detective, but when actually told the rules around becoming a PI early in this novel she is also super combative about that because she wants to be in charge of something she is resistant to actually do? Wyatt and Theo seem much more serious and prepared for all of the work, and Emersyn is sort of along for the ride but then randomly throwing herself headfirst into danger. I do wish she showed more attentiveness to her career options given the previous book's situation with her mother and given that NYC is stupid expensive and raising a kid is not cheap. I was also a bit confused about some smaller aspects of the mystery itself and how Wyatt and Emersyn went about investigating -- aspects of that seemed really unrealistic even while the mystery heated up. Because of aspects of their crime solving methodologies seem a bit left field, I found it best to suspend my disbelief in certain scenes and just vibe on all the relationship building and the ending resolution to the mystery vs making sense of how they got there.
We do get many fun interactions with scene stealers from the first book -- Theo, Leona, Bitty, Jemma and others from the Deco Mirage are all making appearances and finding ways to support Emersyn while simultaneously driving her a little crazy. There are still a lot of really humorous, fun scenes (and quotes from Princess Diana) that made the first book stand out so much and a lot of slow-burn, heartfelt romancing on the heels of those kisses from book one. I think what really works for this series are those relationships and interactions with Wyatt and the Deco Mirage residents, and with the information we get at the end of the book, I think the third book in this series will really cement that fact - which I am super excited for.

Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC of We Are Never Ever Solving this Murder by Sarah Fox in exchange for an honest review.
I did not read the first book in this series, Definitely Maybe Not a Detective, by Sarah Fox, We Are Never Solving This Murder did work as a stand alone; however the background information provided in the former given me more insight into the characters, and for that reason I rate this a 3.5 instead of a 4.
Wyatt, Theo, and Emerson join forces to create the Wyatt Detective Agency. Theo lands their first job for a woman whose brother has died under dubious circumstances. Emerson goes undercover at the funeral home, The House of Evermore, taking the job vacated by the murder victim’s death. Her bungling detective work reminds me of Lucy in I Love Lucy, hairbrained and wacky. (Yep, I am aging myself.) Wyatt poses as her fiance to gain access to the funeral home and to support her, while Theo takes on the responsibility of research.
The mystery unfolds with heart, humor, and a little bit of romance. There are a plethora of suspects and theories uncovered as the reader is taken on a journey full of curves and twists. The coffin scene with Emerson had me laughing out loud. The interference of her four eccentric neighbors in the investigation also provides some giggles.
My favorite part of the story is the development of Emerson as a guardian to her niece Livvy after the death of her brother a year prior. Though the story is lighthearted, Fox does not shy away from the difficulties and adjustments grief requires, and she handles this subject with tenderness.
Overall, I enjoyed the cozy mystery and would recommend this as a quick, light read lying on the beach.

Emersyn Gray and Wyatt Quintal Alessi are establishing their detective agency; Sophia Damien is their first client. Her brother, Zander, had been found dead at the Woodlawn Cemetery; the ruling in his death was an accident. Convinced that her brother was murdered, she wants the detectives to find the person or persons who killed him.
Did Zander’s new job at the House of Evermore Funeral Home have something to do with his death? And, if he was indeed murdered, can Emersyn and Wyatt identify those responsible for his death?
=========
The second book in the author’s Wyatt Investigations Mysteries series is a follow-up to “Definitely, Maybe Not a Detective” and brings back the same expected core characters. Although this book works reasonably well as a standalone, readers will find they have a more complete understanding of the characters and their situations if they’ve read the first book in the series.
Wyatt and Emersyn have moved on to opening up a detective agency and Sophia Damien is their first client. The uniqueness of the setting and the weirdly-loveable cast of characters combine to create a cozy mystery that pulls readers into the telling of the tale. Readers who enjoy cozy mysteries will find much to appreciate here.

I liked this just as much as book one! I was really happy that Emersyn and Wyatt continued their story in this one, especially because I don’t usually love when a series follows the same couple for multiple books. But somehow, it was still just as good and I really enjoyed it.
Their fake detective agency is now real, and they’re taking on a brand new murder mystery, this time involving a funeral home and a death that may not have been an accident. I really enjoyed the mystery and trying to figure out what was actually going on. The chemistry between Emersyn and Wyatt is still there too, and I loved that their relationship continues to develop behind the scenes of the crime they are trying to solve.
Was everything realistic? Definitely not! And there was quite a bit that felt predictable, but that didn’t take away from how fun this was. I think this is such a good series if you want something that leans more heavily into the mystery and whodunnit and less into the romance.
I also really loved how grief was handled in this book. Emersyn is still dealing with the loss of her brother, and I thought Sarah did a really great job portraying how complicated and messy grief can be.
Another fun murder mystery from Sarah Fox and I’m definitely enjoying this series! I hope there will be more to come.

I'd had the chance to read the first book in this series when it came out, but I passed on it because it seemed to tread too much into romance (I like my mysteries/thrillers to be very focused on the mystery). I didn't realize this was part of the same series, although I should have because of the stunning cover!
Emersyn and Wyatt take on a client looking to investigate the suspicious death of her brother. Although she's having second thoughts about her new career in detective work, Emersyn is empathetic to this woman given her own brother's recent death. Though the death was initially ruled accidental, Emersyn and Wyatt end up finding themselves in danger as they get further into the investigation, confirming the client's suspicions that something went amiss.
Though there was definitely romance involved, it wasn't as prevalent as I expected (at least in this book). There was a good balance of mystery and witty humor which I always enjoy. I also loved the family dynamic between Emersyn and her niece. I'd like to go back and read the first book at some point so I can experience the full context.
Having started the series on book two, I'll say that it is possible to enjoy it as a standalone, however, I think knowing the backstory is important for the full enjoyment of the story.
Thanks to Ballantine for inviting me to read a free digital ARC through NetGalley!

We Are Never Ever Solving This Murder by Sarah Fox was exactly the kind of book I needed after reading a string of heavier thrillers. It was fun, cozy, and had just the right mix of mystery, humor, and romance to keep me smiling throughout.
Even though this is the second book in the series, I never felt lost. The funeral home setting gave the mystery a unique backdrop, and I had a great time following Emersyn, Wyatt, and Theo as they tackled their first real case together. The investigation had enough twists to keep me guessing, but what really made the book work for me was the cast of characters. Their chemistry, banter, and the antics of the side characters added so much charm.
I also appreciated that beneath the lighthearted tone, Sarah Fox continued to explore Emersyn’s grief and her role as Livvy’s guardian without making the story feel heavy. It gave the characters a little more depth while still delivering the cozy vibe I was looking for.
If you’re in the mood for an entertaining cozy mystery with quirky characters, a touch of romance, and plenty of laughs along the way, I’d definitely recommend picking this one up. I’ll happily return for the next Wyatt Investigations adventure.

I was so excited to return to the Deco Mirage and hang back out with Emersyn, Wyatt, Theo, and the Senior Squad! We Are Never Ever Solving This Murder has the PI firm officially getting off the ground with their first paying case!
If the cover isn’t already a bit of a tip-off, the tone of this book is a little less silly than the first, but it’s still just as much fun! It’s chock-full of that same early-2000s zany murder mystery charm. Think Psych, Monk, or Castle… or any number of shows I still binge on a regular basis. The dynamic between our core investigative trio just keeps getting stronger, and this book feels noticeably more polished than the first.
The primary setting for this one is Evermore Funeral Home, so it intrinsically deals with more grief and sadness. But it never makes the book feel heavy. Leona always seems to be there to provide some comic relief in those moments with a well-placed fainting spell. 🤣
I am not ashamed to admit that the ending of this one got me! Or maybe my mystery chops are just rusty, but I did NOT have the culprit pegged this time! I was absolutely dying laughing during the final “unmasking” scene. All puns intended. 😂
Sarah Fox, I love how your brain works!

Sarah Fox returns with a gripping second entry in The Wyatt Investigations Mysteries, and it’s a roller coaster from the start. When a new client insists her brother’s “accidental” death was anything but, Wyatt and Emersyn step into a case filled with unsettling clues and unanswered questions.
Her brother worked at a local funeral home, where his behavior shifted dramatically before his sudden death. Determined to uncover the truth, Emersyn takes a job there, slipping into the inner workings of a place where something feels undeniably off. The deeper she digs, the clearer it becomes that danger is lurking just beneath the surface.
Fox layers tension, secrets, and sharp twists into a fast moving mystery that keeps you guessing. Wyatt and Emersyn’s investigation builds toward a high stakes reveal that makes this installment both entertaining and satisfying.

This is the second book in the Wyatt Investigation Mysteries book and it was just as good as the first one! Wyatt, Theo, and Emersyn are working to make their fake detective agency real, and they have their first client - a woman who believes her brother was murdered. Emersyn goes undercover at the funeral home where the brother worked before he died. If they succeed, it could mean some extra money for her and her niece, which she definitely needs.
It was a fun mystery to ride along for. Several red herrings, some romance, and some hijinks made for a good story. It is a nice modern take on the cozy mystery genre. I hope the series keeps going because I would love to see more of these characters, especially the older ladies who live in Emersyn's apartment building - they are hilarious.

What a wonderful romp!
This was a great 2nd edition to the Wyatt Investigations Series.
Wyatt (the heart throb) and Emersyn (the hot mess) are at it again - trying to solve a murder mystery - while trying to figure out their feelings for each other.
This story takes place in a Funeral Home, where everyone has a secret and Em needs to figure it all out - before she gets buried.
A food truck, goth zombies, paparazzi and the usual suspects from the Deco Mirage all play their roles perfectly.
The Author also sets up the next in the series - to keep you on the hook.
For those who enjoy the Stephanie Plum series from Janet Evanovich - especially the early ones - you'll love this series also.
I'd like to thank Netgalley for providing me with a preview copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book is a follow up to the book, Definitely Maybe Not a Detective, and you can see a series is being created. It seems a fake detective agency from the first book becomes a real one in this book. We are Never Ever Solving This Murder, I felt would have been more enjoyable if I had read the first one. Definitely missed out on a lot of backstory on how the characters all met and created this fake detective agency. The two main characters, I guess finally give into their sexual chemistry. There is a 17-year-old whiz kid, Emersyn’s niece, and plenty of great characters in the old apartment complex, all explained, apparently in the first book. All in all, cute story and a quick read, but not a stand alone for me and that is why it is 3 stars. I am appreciative of the ARC from NetGalley

I was thrilled to get an ARC for this second book in the series from NetGalley. I really enjoyed book 1; Definitely Maybe Not a Detective so much. In book 2 Emerysn and Wyatt are getting their detective agency off the ground and are hired by a woman who wants them to look into the death of her brother. Her brother had started acting weird as soon as he began his job working at a local funeral parlor and while the police think her brother's death was an accident his sister is not sure she believes that. But as Emersyn and Wyatt struggle to work together and believe the funeral parlor is a front for some unknown shady dealings, it's starting to look like they will never manage to solve their first real case. But yet you know they somehow will! It was cute and playful and suspenseful... all things I love in a good cozy mystery read.

I jumped into this series with book two and had no trouble following what was going on. I'm sure I missed a few references from the first book, but it never took away from my enjoyment of the story.
The funeral home made for a fun, slightly creepy setting, and the mystery kept me guessing until the reveal. I also liked the little bit of closed-door romance woven throughout the story without taking over the mystery.
The characters are what really made this one work for me. Emersyn, Wyatt, and Theo were a fun team, and I especially enjoyed Theo's personality. There were a few moments that felt a little repetitive, but overall this was an entertaining, quick read that kept me turning the pages.
I'll definitely pick up another book in this series.

Thank you NetGalley, Ballantine and Sarah Fox for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Book #2 in the series. Could be standalone but will make more sense if you read #1 first. I had similar feelings on the first book.
Entertaining but frustrating. Messy characters take stupid risks, stumble into solving a crime (shockingly without getting themselves or their kooky elderly sidekicks hurt) and romance is essentially non existent.
Only kisses and vague references to next steps in relationships. As someone who reads a lot of romance, this was the most frustrating part.
Very in line with the Stephanie Plum and Finley Donovan series.

The mysteries in this series are so easy to solve and the romance falls a bit flat, but that's not even why I’m here!
What keeps me coming back is Emersyn. Sarah Fox does such a beautiful job exploring her grief and showing how she navigates it while raising her niece. I love her relationships with Livy and Theo. Emersyn’s bond with the young girls around her is just so charming and full of heart.
Skip it if you want a complex whodunit, but absolutely pick it up for the (found?) family dynamics and healing journey.

4.5/5⭐️
This series has stolen my heart and has quickly become one of my favorites.
Emersyn, Wyatt, and Theo are such a fun trio. This mystery was creepy and had a plot twist I definitely didn’t see coming, but was thoroughly amused by. I’m excited to see Emersyn develop more as a private eye, I love that she’s still her normal awkward self and is still trying to figure everything out. And any chance I can have to hang out with her and Wyatt is welcomed. He’s a great grounding force for her.
Looking forward to the next part of their story!

Wyatt Investigations is on the case! When a grieving sister wants help uncovering the facts of her brother’s shady death Emersyn, Wyatt and Theo work together once again. In this sequel Emersyn must go undercover in a mortuary to learn what happened and collect clues and information on her coworkers. This story was sexy, funny and sweet. From loyal/daring best friend Jemma, to sincere/sweet niece Livvy, to zany residents of Deco Mirage to always dependable/hot Wyatt this books cast of characters brings humor and heart. It was a fun read.

Thank you to Random House and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. This review is my own. I really enjoyed this second book in the Wyatt Investigations series. Emersyn, Wyatt, and Theo have their first real case with a client. Emersyn goes undercover at a funeral home to help solve the murder of their client’s brother. The mystery is quite unexpected, and it kept me guessing. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

I haven't read the first book in this series, but this book reads well as a standalone too, so that was no a problem. I requested this title because of the supposed similarities with the Finlay Donovan series, but I didn't really find that the case. I felt like there were more loops and circles than twists and turns. It wasn't really the book for me, but I believe Emersyn and gang will have their share of devoted readers. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.

Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion. This one wasn’t it. She’s bumbling all over the place, constantly getting caught, hearing arguments everywhere and she has some trauma. So wanting the solve the case she gets a job at the funeral home. She’s freaked out by all aspects. She’s in love with her bestie. It’s just a mess and there’s a huge cast of characters I kept getting mixed up. DNF at 30%

This was the second in the Emersyn Gray mystery series- I enjoyed seeing the core characters from book 1 pulled into this novel, with their own relationships developing and story lines filling out on top of a brand new whodunnit to solve! I was a little underwhelmed when the case was solved, but I enjoyed the journey nevertheless. The ending sets us up for a third book which I’d happily read!

We Are Never Ever Solving This Murder is book two in the Wyatt Investigation Mysteries series. I went into the book not having read the first and I didn’t feel lost or disconnected at all. I love the relationships and the character growth through this story. I am going back to read book one now because I don’t want to leave these characters behind.

I didn't read the first book in this series and I think I would have liked this one more if I had read it. Jumping into the characters and fake detective agency was hard in the beginning. I liked Emersyn and her niece. I didn't really understand Theo's character so that may have been explained in book 1. The humor was good, the situations were absurd but fun. Overall, it was just too long - how many times could they break in to the funeral home???

I really enjoyed the first book, and the second didn’t disappoint!
The setting being a funeral home was unique and just added to the comic relief. The cast of characters was, as always, wildly entertaining! They are all so well-done and distinct from each other that it’s easy to keep track even when there are a lot of names being thrown around.
I need Wyatt to stop running off to different places though at the end of each case! 😂

This book was fun!!!! Twisty, turny, and very cozy with the cold weather and warm treats and love in the air! The mystery kept me guessing for the culprit and the funeral home setting (plus the cemetery!!) was macabre in a non-scary way. The old ladies at the Mirage, Leandro the embalmer, Theo and her crusty, prickly personality brought a nice levity to the story.

I am hoping Sarah Fox continues writing this series. Wyatt and Emersyn have great chemistry. Livy is adorable. The ladies of the Mirage are a hoot! But I need more Thea. She is such a force of nature and yet why?
Any way, the hilarity of this who done it is so much more than a mystery. The characters are fun (smoking pot in an open grave?), crazy, zany and murderous. Have fun!!
