Alice-Miranda #5

Alice-Miranda in New York

Rate this book
Alice-Miranda takes a bite out of the Big Apple!

Alice-Miranda is in bustling New York City. It's a blur of skyscrapers, hot dog carts, chats with zoo animals, and classes at Mrs. Kimmel's School for Girls, right next to glorious Central Park. Her family's glamorous department store, Highton's on Fifth, has just been renovated, but plans for the fabulous re-opening party are going curiously wrong. Is that why Alice-Miranda's father Hugh seems so worried? And why is her new friend Lucinda so shy about inviting Alice-Miranda home?

Jacqueline Harvey has combined a successful career in education with her love of a good story. She is the author of many novels for younger readers and a picture book, THE SOUND OF THE SEA, which was awarded Honour Book in the 2006 Australian Children’s Book Council Awards.

Jacqueline taught in Infants and Primary schools and was Deputy Head of Abbotsleigh Junior School (an independent day and boarding school for girls) in Sydney Australia for seven and a half years before taking up the position of Director of Development at Abbotsleigh in 2010. In October 2012 she resigned to become a full time writer and speaker.

Jacqueline’s bestselling Alice-Miranda and Clementine Rose series’ centre on the adventures of two young girls.

Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones is a perpetually positive and determined seven year old who takes herself off to boarding school because it appeals to her sense of adventure.

Clementine Rose is a sweet little girl, who brings much joy to her family and the friends she makes along the way in her journeys through the first five books of the series. A star of the show is Clementine Rose’s pet, an adorable teacup pig called Lavender.

Her newest series is called Kensy and Max about twins who learn that their grandmother is head of the world's most important spy organisation, Pharos.

I think that this book is the best book if you really need cheering up, or if you feel lonely. I really like Alice Miranda, because I feel that she is amazingly Funny, Cheerfull and Happy. I love being in her adventureous Adventures!! This is by far my favorite one, because it is so adventures and demanding. The way Alice Miranda is so determined, and the clever twist in the end! :) Alice Miranda is such a great and helpful friend. This is a great encouragement to those who are challanged, or if they are hurt. This will certainly lift your spirits!!

Alice Miranda going to New York with her parents, Cecelia and Hugh. They are re-opening their grand store Highton's on Fifth, the jewel in the crown of their over twenty-five stores worldwide. For six months the store had been closed for a full renovation which Cecelia was overseeing.

With a guidebook and a long list of things Alice Miranda wanted to see, her parents had said they would spend as much time as they could getting around the sights of The Big Apple.

Hugh Kennington-Jones was distracted by a family mystery he was trying to solve. At the store, Cecelia discovered that there had been many unexpected problems cropped up.

After a wonderful Sunday in Central Park, visiting the Zoo and making new friends with Mr. Gambino the hot dog vendor, and Mr. Geronimo the Pretzel cart salesman. As with all her introductions, Alice Miranda always says her full name. The family enjoyed sailing the remote-controlled boats on the lake.

The next day she started at school where she'd be for the month until after the store opening. It was a small school, Mrs. Kimmel's School for Girls. The headmistress was a friend of her mother's.

Who would think Alice Miranda would make firm friends with Lucinda, Quincy, and Ava? Lucindas' father did not want his daughter to mix with these girls, especially Alice Miranda. Being the outgoing and friendly child she was, she needed to work out the mystery of why Lucinda's family the Finkelsteins' hated the Hightons. There was room for two grand stores in New York. She met the Armstrong family who ran a Jazz club. They would entertain the guests at the store reopening.

Being a loyal and caring friend, Alice Miranda went into Central Park in the night with Quincy, and Ava to save Lucinda. She had the help of friends she'd met, including the homeless man she'd met on the subway, and Mr Gambino and Mr Geronimo. She solved the mystery of her father's missing brother.

Alice Miranda had barely time to miss her friends with all the excitement.

This is another Jacqueline Harvey book for youngsters to enjoy. Again, I'm happy to recommend this story to friends with children who love journeys, mysteries, and making friends.

yes i’m still going strong with these books, it’s nice to have between all of my heavier reads.
there is just something so pleasantly calming about them. they’re so easy to read, and whilst still being interesting and often having a lot of mystery/drama, these books are overall very lighthearted which i enjoy.
new york was the perfect location and this book was so cute :) i always love a good childhood nostalgia moment

This might just be my favourite book in the series -- so far, at least. It just goes to show that Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith Kennington-Jones is better at ending a family feud than Romeo and Juliet. /lh

This is a great book full of suspense and excitement! It can be read by any age as it is a long but easy read. I read it in a couple of days as it was so good and iI couldn't resist to put it down!!!!! Alice miranda in New York is the 5th book of the 12 book series all packed with wonderfull mysteries and adventures. This is a lightening book that turns a bad day good. another thing I love about this series is that it doesn't matter if you read them in order or not so, you can start at any book and end at any book as well.
