The story behind one team’s unprecedented dominance at the quarterback position
By developing a trio of Hall of Fame-bound passers, the Green Bay Packers have enjoyed success at the quarterback position that surpasses that of any other team in the National Football League. In Leaders of the Pack , veteran Packers writer Rob Reischel explores the organization's history of successful signal-callers, highlighting Bart Starr's Super Bowl victories, Brett Favre's collection of NFL records, and Aaron Rodgers' ascent into becoming one of the best players in today's NFL. Reischel traces the history of all three players, highlighting what it means to be a Packers quarterback both on and off the field, and then expands his insight to the rest of the league. He examines other team's dynamic trios—such as the Dallas Cowboys' Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, and Tony Romo or the San Francisco 49ers' Y. A. Tittle, Joe Montana, and Steve Young—but demonstrates why the Packers have the most successful players at the position in NFL history. Featuring Favre's thoughts about his place in the Packers' quarterback legacy in his own words, Leaders of the Pack is required reading for Packers fans young and old.
Fun, Quick read by a blatant Packers partisan fan (that's okay, I am one, too). There didn't seem to be a lot of "new" material as much of the stories included about Starr, Favre and Rodgers have been written/stated before. I gave it 4 stars because for a Packers fan, it was very entertaining
Saw this book about the three Green Bay Packers quarterbacks and had to read it. As a longtime Packers fan Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers are some of my all time favorites.
It was quite enjoyable reading about the history of these great players. It was a wonderful trip down memory lane. Of course the lows were touched on but reliving the highs was fantastic.
The author then discussed nine other trios of quarterback and why the Packers trio was the best of all time. It’s a premise I definitely agree with. The problem is he spent 2/5 of the book discussing other quarterbacks. I wanted more about the Packers instead of so much about the others.
First of all I should say I am a big, somewhat of an understatement, a Packers fan. This book presents what I agree are the three best quarterbacks to play for the same team, Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers. The book presents the players, their highlights and their stats but doesn't delve much in the men behind them. An okay read but I could do without the other good quarterback threesomes from other teams.
