She’ll do anything to claim her father’s empire, too bad falling for the pro quarterback isn’t part of her game plan.
Charlotte Langford has spent her entire life preparing to take over her father’s entertainment dynasty. When he demands she prove herself by leading his pro football team, Charlotte does what any strategic, determined woman would do: she finds a quarterback to fake date… because apparently running a billion-dollar empire requires family values.
Callan Devine is the guy who always says yes. Star quarterback, team favorite, and the man who agreed to fake date the acting owner of his team. The same fiery brunette who never seemed to be able to remember his name. Too bad he didn’t count on what saying yes would cost him.
Somewhere between the work dinners and the moments at home together, the lines start to blur. Turns out, faking it is a lot harder when it starts to feel real.
Too bad feelings have no place in a business arrangement.
Perfect for fans of fake dating, sports romance, and swoony chemistry with a side of banter, Her Game Plan is a spicy football romance with forced proximity, big stakes, and even bigger feelings. Part of the In Her League series, it can be read as a standalone.
My writing is a testament to my love for romcoms, sprinkled generously with the very tropes that make my heart race: sports, small towns, and sarcastic heroines.
There is nothing I enjoy more than weaving narratives about strong, intelligent women and the irresistible men they love. If you enjoy books that are real, smart, and endlessly entertaining, you're in the right place!
When I'm not building worlds or creating characters that stay with you long after the last page, you'll find me spending time with my family, watching sports, or enjoying my small, Colorado town.

I had an absolute blast watching these two try to keep things “fake.”
Charlotte and Callan had such a great dynamic, and I loved their banter, chemistry, and the way she constantly challenged him. Charlotte took a little time to grow on me, but once she did, I really enjoyed how confident, funny, and unapologetically herself she was.
Callan completely won me over. He’s such a kind, giving person, and knowing the reason behind his constant need to help everyone made me feel for him so much. I loved watching these two bring out the best in each other, especially as Callan learned he didn’t have to earn love and Charlotte navigated the challenges of being a woman in a position of power.
The tension between them was SO good, and I genuinely loved watching their fake relationship become something real. I would’ve enjoyed a little more time with their relationship developing, but overall, this had everything I want from a sports romance: fun banter, swoony moments, emotional depth, and a couple I couldn’t help rooting for.
I’m definitely excited to continue the series!

A huge thank you to the lovely, Emma Kate, for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨
Emma Kate’s books always put a smile on my face. The banter and love she puts into her writing is everything I look for in a sports romance.
What a loving, caring and gentle soul Callan is. His continued support for his family and friends, never backing down when it comes to helping them (or anyone really) out, was so heartwarming. And soul destroying. He’s still that 8 year old boy who thinks he needs to deserve people’s attention and interest. When in reality everyone around him loves him, and enjoys hanging out with him regardless of what he does for them.
Charlotte seems like such a fun and caring person. She takes no shit from anyone. Even though she might doubt herself at times, she doesn’t let it stop her (or show).
These two is the exact example of what I think a great relationship is. Open communication, unconditional love and support, and lots and lots of banter!
Thank you so much for yet another ARC Emma Kate, I adore your books!!
Charlotte and her brother Chris get the unexpected news that they’ll have to compete against each other to see who gets to inherit their dad’s company. To make things even more complicated, they have to swap jobs within the company. In an attempt to keep the job she loves so much, Charlotte asks Callan for help, and the two of them end up in a fake relationship that doesn’t feel all that fake.
I absolutely love Charlotte’s personality and the way she pushes Callan’s buttons at the beginning! I have to admit, I didn’t really get her in the first chapter, but once I got to know her a little more, I ended up loving her.
Callan is such a sweetheart, although he can be a little toxic sometimes. The way he always puts everyone else before himself makes me find him so cute and, at the same time, feel so bad for him because I know there's a trauma behind it making him do all that.
I really loved Charlotte and Callan’s dynamic, but the transition from being awkward around each other to being completely comfortable felt a little too quick. I would’ve loved to see more of that in between stage so it felt a bit more natural. But what I absolutely loved was that, for once, the first kiss actually surprised me because I did not see it coming at all. And that’s hard to pull off in a genre where you can usually predict pretty much everything that’s going to happen.
The banter, the chemistry, and the absolutely insane tension between these two make you desperate for them to just get together already and get their HEA, but at the same time, you don’t want it to happen too soon because the journey there is honestly hypnotizing. It’s crazy how Emma Kate managed to create that level of TENSION (with huge capital letters) between the main characters.
I also really liked how much the book talks about women in positions of power and how vocal it is about the challenges they face. At the same time, though, the misogyny Charlotte has to deal with made me so angry. Same with Addie when her job as a referee comes up.
This is definitely one of the fake dating romances that has had me the most hooked. I’ll 100% be reading the first book, and I’m already looking forward to Addie and Nate’s story!
i always enjoy a good fake dating situation, especially considering it was kinda just blurted out and callan, our mmc, had to just go with it. in theory, it works, but the first third of the book is him saying he “doesn’t know how to get along” with charlotte, our fmc, yet immediately agrees to fake dating her. i thought that was weird and definitely a complete 180 from his initial feelings for her. this was a fun read until it started dragging for me. it’s short, but it felt incredibly long after the first third of the book. the characters kinda felt all over the place in the beginning too, since there were several introduced at one time. i haven’t read book one, but that many characters at once is a lot.
cherry on top: i never want to see the words “promised land” in reference to genitalia ever again. truly. it’s gross.
☆ fake dating ☆ sports romance ☆ forced proximity ☆ workplace romance ☆ 30+ y/o main characters
It's all fun and games until the author calls a vagina "THE PROMISED LAND" ... Twice 🙂 Ooooh my God what happened?? I'm gonna keep this (kinda) short because I genuinely can't believe this is the same author who wrote Her Slap Shot. That book was FIRE. It had the perfect balance of sports and romance to make us laugh, swoon, and smile at three a.m while reading it. Her Game Plan? Not so much. First of all, this book is WAY too similar to its "older sister". Let's see: - How old are Beckett and Callan in both stories? 34. - What's the boys' main problem? Being traded. - What's the girls', Finley and Charlotte, main problem? Their dad. - That one scene where they "accidentally" overhear each other? It happens again here! - Match schedules creating forced proximity? Check. It's almost like we read the same book twice, just with different sports and a weaker, whinier FMC. I don't like Charlotte. Even since book one, I didn't think she had the charm to make readers curious about her. She's your typical bubbly romcom girl: born into a rich, loving family, loved by everyone except the antagonist, desperate to prove herself, and never really struggling with anything. Even her brother later admits that it's rare for Charlotte to not get what she wants. Callan call her Princess, and wowza, does she live up to the nickname 🙂 With Finley, we couldn't help but root for her. She was leading a new path for other women in this universe. She was strong. She was badass. Here? Charlotte constantly hides behind Callan, her brother, and her father. It got to the point where one character told her that she didn't have the capacity to lead the team, and I wholeheartedly agree. She failed to make me sympathize with her because, come on, let's be honest, what was her biggest worry again? Being poor? Not getting her family's legacy? Yeah ... That sounds like a nightmare 🙃 Charlotte's attempt to "prove" herself was basically a series of dates disguised as business proposals. She was constantly Callan this Callan that. Everyone wanted to talk to Callan because he's the star. I mean can you imagine why hehehe 💀Maybe that's because you barely do anything besides use your daddy's name? I also didn't understand the whole thing where she tried to insert herself into the team's operations. ZERO impact. If I were the head coach, I'd be pissed if the owner's daughter suddenly decided she needed to be included in an area she had no business being involved in. I'm sorry, but I saw this as yet another excuse for forced proximity. Even Callan couldn't save the book. He was on a completely different level from Beckett. That man literally sacrificed his dream for Finley. Is that realistic? Maybe not. Was it sweet? Absolutely. And isn't that why we read romance? But Callan's whole "football is number one" thing wasn't even remotely comparable. He let his grandmother degraded her. I also think he's creepy like what do you mean you eavesdropped a woman's room to hear her pleasuring herself?? Bro. Stop. Get a fucking hobby. Callan's team also didn't have the same charm that Beckett's team had. And no, I'm not saying that because I'm biased toward Larsen (I'm still in love with you, my boy. Mwah 😘) It's just that the team didn't get enough spotlight for me to actually care about them. And then it got worse because of the MISCOMMUNICATION. I just wanted to grab both of them by the shoulders and scream: TALK! JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER! But no. Apparently, we needed a THIRD ACT BREAKUP. I like Emma Kate. I really do. She didn't need smut every three chapters to build the relationship. Her writing still felt mature. That's honestly the sole reason I kept reading until the end, even though I sighed approximately 98 times. But I'm sorry to say this, this book took a major downhill turn for me. For a series that's supposed to show that women can also thrive in male dominated fields, Charlotte's story failed to deliver that message. And then there's the ending. Everything was wrapped up WAY too quickly. The bad guy? Taken down in one chapter. By Charlotte's BROTHER, no less. The father problem? Solved in basically one chapter too. Coincidence? Pattern? I'm so disappointed that dads once AGAIN got a free past. And since Callan also didn't get closure or stood up for himself against his parents, it seems like parental abuse is taken very lightly in this series I don't understand??? Maybe that's okie because in the epilogue years has passed and suddenly we have a nice little happy family with everyone married and popping out kids. Love conquer all and cured trauma. Amazing. But where are the strong women? Where's the sports aspect? Where's the charm from the first book? I'm still looking for them. And lastly for the love of God, please don't ever call a vagina "the promised land" again. It's totally fine to use pussy and cunt, you know.
Her Game Plan is the perfect pick me up for heading into football season!
Her Game Plan is book two in the In Her League series which introduces readers into the world of professional NFL team, the Denver Stallions. While this can be read as a standalone, I personally think books within series are more fun with the knowledge behind interconnected characters.
🏈 Sports Romance 🏈 Star Quarterback MMC 🏈 Owners Daughter AND Current Acting Owner FMC 🏈 Fake Dating 🏈 Workplace Romance 🏈 Forced Proximity
The future of the Langford Dynasty has always been in hands reach - Charlotte was to inherit Langford Entertainment, and her twin brother Chris was to inherit the Denver Stallions - until suddenly it wasn’t. Before he retires, Steve Langford wants to ensure two things: that the Langford Dynasty will provide for future generations to come and that his successor is able to successfully run the company across the board. In a blink of an eye, Charlotte has become the new acting owner of the Denver Stallions. Ironically switching jobs might be the simpler task to tackle when her brother is already a leg up in the family values department. Before her mind has a chance to catch up with her mouth, Charlotte magically goes from (very) single to (seriously) dating someone. That someone … star quarterback of the Denver Stallions, Callan Devine. Thankfully, Callan knows a thing or two about faking plays and agrees to help. The business arrangement is only meant to be temporary. Can they make it to the end zone without blurring the lines?
I will always support and root for women (especially in male dominated fields) - regardless if that’s in every day real life or a book. I know I wasn’t the only little girl who grew up hearing “that’s a man’s job”. It’s important to showcase and highlight women thriving and succeeding in these jobs because that’s what’s going to help break down the outdated stereotypes for future generations to come. Women are painfully aware of the struggles that come with taking jobs like these, but it’s important to know that they aren’t alone in it. In a world where men work against us, it’s more important than ever that we stick together. So an entire series dedicated to badass women in charge who support each other? Sign me up 🙋🏼♀️
Callan certainly is Devine. I loved him from the start. I think he’ll come across relatable to a lot of readers - either to those who are perpetual people pleasers or who didn’t have the ideal family situation growing up. Charlotte was a little less relatable to me in the sense that my upbringing wasn’t anything like hers, and it’s probably a safe bet that many other readers didn’t have her experience either. I think at times her privilege showed without her really knowing it. However, I did relate to her as a woman in her 30s who’s trying to prove herself career wise and who has yet to settle down. I wish we would’ve gotten a little more of Charlotte and Callan’s relationship from the start of their fake dating to the progression to the real thing. There wasn’t as much of a slow burn as I’d hoped. Their banter and chemistry was evident. Overall, they were a cute and fun couple!
I was not a fan of Charlottes dad and that stayed true from start to finish. Firstly, for the obvious reason. Secondly, it rubbed me the wrong way that he essentially used his position of power to force her into the life he wanted for her. Some woman don’t want the entire family package, and thats okay.
Shoutout to nan & the gang - loved the scenes with them!
Thank you to BookFunnel and Emma Kate for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Charlotte has spent her life working hard. She and her twin might be privileged, but in their fathers company, they've each made a corner for themselves. But when he decides that splitting his company up between them won't happen, he's challenged them both to switch divisions. So now Charlotte is taking care of the football side.
How will a girl dive into taking care of the football team? Dating the quarterback. The owner who could never remember his name (on purpose or mistake I'll let you decide) is now going out with him. Callan is a good guy, he's definitely a people pleaser.
Charlotte really dives into her new role. She does things her father and brother never did, even if it ruffles a lot of feathers. One thing about this woman is shes super determined.
What will happen after the trial run is over? Will she have to work for her brother?
Loves: the MCs, the ball busting Disloves: Ole dad playing games with people's dreams!
Another great sports romance from Emma Kate! I thought it would be hard to follow Beckett and Finley, but Charlotte and Callan are pretty cute. All the classic romance tropes we love, biggest being fake dating leading to the inevitable natural it’s real conversation (which didn’t happen and it was super frustrating!).
The timings of everything felt a bit rushed, but it was needed to get to the goal point of the story. There were also a few similarities between book 1 & 2 but in a different format- I struggled to like Charlotte’s dad too! But it still had enough of its own story to still be enjoyable!
Another amazing book from Emma Kate! I have been so lucky to have ARC read all her books and I have loved every single one! ♥️ This series is about woman empowerment and that us girls rule!
If you love a fake dating romance book then this one is for you, Emma does this to perfection. The pacing of the book was really good and getting to know our FMC and MMC was so amazing and they are so perfectly matched it was unreal! Pretty predictable but who doesn't love a predictable fake dating sports romance?!
This book didn’t disappoint, the fake dating trope was done so well. Callan and Charlotte had a connection that definitely had me loving the development of their relationship and whether their fake arrangement became something more. The plot was well written and I enjoyed how the storyline was well constructed and had moments that were brilliantly executed.
I didn’t think it could get better than Beckett & Finley but boy was I wrong. This book was SO GOOD. I loved how easily these two meshed and just how easily they fell for one another. The fake dating in this was top tier and the communication was just chefs kiss, these 2 were so perfect for one another omg.
Callan clearly falling first was one of my favourite parts of this book. The man was meant to be fake dating Charlotte while she was happily rage-baiting him at every opportunity, yet meanwhile his feelings were becoming suspiciously real. 😂 I genuinely felt like I was getting the full fake-dating experience — the denial, the tension, the “this definitely isn't real… right?” energy — and I was living for it.
And then we get the fake dating. Except somebody clearly forgot to tell these two what FAKE means. The lines don’t just blur, they basically cease to exist, and once the chemistry turns spicy? 🔥 Yeah, game over. Their whole “this is just an arrangement” excuse became increasingly unhinged and I ate up every second of it. Funny, fiery, sexy and ridiculously addictive — easy 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🏈❤️ He Never Had to Earn Her Love ❤️🏈 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars | 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3 Chili Peppers
There is something about a fake relationship where absolutely NO ONE involved is doing a particularly good job of keeping their feelings fake that gets me every single time. 😂🏈❤️
And Charlotte and Callan? These two were fighting a losing battle from the beginning.
Charlotte Langford has spent years preparing to take over her father's entertainment empire. Instead, she suddenly finds herself competing against her brother Chris for the company while the two of them are forced to switch positions within the business. That lands Charlotte in charge of the family's professional football team and puts star quarterback Callan Devine directly in her path.
And somehow her perfectly strategic game plan eventually includes fake dating him.
Obviously, this is going to go extremely well. 😂
Charlotte took a little time to grow on me, but once I understood her better, I ended up really enjoying her. She's confident, ambitious, funny, outspoken, and completely unapologetic about taking up space. She knows how to push Callan's buttons and seems to take great personal enjoyment in doing exactly that.
I respected how much of her story centered around what it means to be a woman in a position of power too.
Charlotte has worked for this future, but she's operating in a world where her choices and competence are judged differently simply because she's a woman. Some of the misogyny she faces made me SO angry, and seeing similar attitudes surrounding Addie's career as a referee reinforced how much harder women can have to fight to be taken seriously in spaces traditionally dominated by men.
But Charlotte doesn't shrink herself to make anyone else comfortable.
I loved that.
Then there's Callan.
Oh, Callan. 🥹❤️
He completely won me over.
Callan is the guy who always says yes. He's the star quarterback, team favorite, loyal friend, devoted family member, and the person who will drop everything if somebody needs him.
At first, that simply makes him seem like an incredibly kind and giving man.
Then you understand WHY he does it.
And suddenly it hurts.
Underneath the successful quarterback is still a piece of that eight-year-old boy who learned to believe that he needed to be useful to deserve people's attention and affection. If he helps enough, gives enough, and keeps saying yes, then maybe people will continue wanting him around.
Meanwhile, the people in Callan's life already love him simply because he's CALLAN.
🥺
His generosity isn't something he needs to lose. His caring nature is one of the best things about him. He just needs to realize that love isn't something he has to constantly earn.
And I absolutely loved watching Charlotte become part of that realization.
These two challenge each other in all the best ways.
Charlotte never needs Callan to make her smaller, and Callan isn't intimidated by her strength or ambition. He supports her while she navigates the pressure of running the team and fighting for the future she wants.
At the same time, Charlotte challenges Callan instead of simply accepting that his willingness to do everything for everyone is always healthy.
They bring out the best in each other without asking the other person to become someone different.
And THAT is what made their relationship work so well for me.
Of course, before they can admit any of this, they're busy pretending their relationship is strictly business.
Sure.
Totally believable.
😂
The banter between these two was SO much fun. Charlotte knows exactly how to get a reaction out of Callan, and their teasing, arguments, chemistry, and constant push and pull had me completely entertained.
And the TENSION?!
Emma Kate had me simultaneously thinking:
WOULD YOU TWO JUST KISS ALREADY?!
and
Actually, wait. Don't. I'm enjoying this way too much.
😂🔥
That is exactly where I want to be in a fake-dating romance.
And somehow their first kiss actually surprised me! I read enough romance that I usually know when that moment is coming, but this one caught me off guard in the best possible way.
Once the lines between fake and real start disappearing, I loved watching Charlotte and Callan become each other's person. Their relationship has humor, open communication, unconditional support, chemistry, and SO much banter.
Neither one needs the other to rescue them.
They simply become a safe place for each other.
My only tiny wish is that I would've loved a little more of the in-between stage. Their transition from being somewhat awkward around each other to feeling completely comfortable happened a little faster than I expected, and because I enjoyed them together so much, I wanted more time watching that shift happen.
But honestly, that's mostly me saying:
Give me MORE Charlotte and Callan. 😂❤️
Because once these two clicked, I was completely invested.
What really stayed with me was how beautifully their individual struggles mirrored each other.
Charlotte has spent her life trying to prove she deserves the position she's worked toward.
Callan has spent his life believing he needs to prove he deserves people's love.
And somewhere inside a relationship that was supposed to be completely fake, they find someone who doesn't require either of them to prove their worth.
🥹❤️
Her Game Plan gave me everything I want from a sports romance: fantastic banter, ridiculous chemistry, a fake relationship that never stood a chance of staying fake, emotional depth, swoony moments, career ambitions outside the romance, and two characters I couldn't help rooting for.
And after meeting Addie and Nate?
👀
Yeah. I'm already going to need that story.
I'm definitely excited to continue the In Her League series!
Thank you to Emma Kate for the gifted advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
*Her Game Plan* is the second book in a sports romance series with interconnected characters, but it can absolutely be read as a standalone.
The Langford empire is divided into two major branches: sports and entertainment. Charlotte runs the entertainment side while her twin brother oversees the football team, the Stallions. Both have spent years preparing to eventually take over their respective divisions when their father retires.
Instead, he decides to pit them against each other.
To determine his successor, the twins must switch positions, and the winner will inherit control of the entire company. With family investments at stake and her brother already married with children, Charlotte impulsively claims she's secretly dating the Stallions' star quarterback, Callan Devine.
The only problem? It's completely fake.
Callan, the ultimate people-pleaser, agrees to play the role of devoted boyfriend for a few months, despite the fact that Charlotte has managed to get his name wrong at every previous encounter. Deliberately, of course, since she's convinced all athletes are self-centered and entitled.
What follows is a very nice slow-burn romance as they begin to see beyond the stereotypes. Behind the "daddy's princess" image and the famous quarterback persona are two people struggling with their own insecurities.
I really loved the way their relationship developed. The emotional connection felt genuine and earned, and their vulnerabilities were handled well throughout the story. Callan thoughts of having to earn love and Charlotte's need to be recognized for her accomplishments added depth to their romance.
The side characters were also a highlight, especially Nan, Callan's grandmother,, who absolutely stole every scene she appeared in.
That said, I would have loved to see Charlotte push back more strongly against the everyday sexism she faces, especially from her father. For much of the story, she felt a little too "all barks. and no bite" for my taste, even if she eventually stands her ground.
✨ Sports Romance ✨ Fake Dating ✨ Slow Burn ✨ Family Drama ✨ Strong Emotional Connection 🌶️ Spice included and fits the story perfectly
A fun and engaging sports romance with great chemistry, lovable characters fighting insecurities and a satisfying slow-burn relationship.
Emma Kate has become one of those authors I know I can pick up when I want a romance that leaves me grinning. Her stories have that perfect combination of humor, heart, chemistry, and characters who genuinely enjoy getting under each other's skin. This one was another fun addition to my sports romance reads.
Callan completely stole my heart. He is the kind of man who will drop everything to help the people he loves, and he seems incapable of putting himself first. His loyalty to his family and friends is incredibly sweet, but there is also something heartbreaking underneath it. Callan still carries that little-boy belief that he has to earn people's affection by being useful to them. Meanwhile, everyone around him already loves him simply for being Callan. Watching him slowly come to terms with that was one of my favorite parts of his character.
Charlotte was fantastic too. She's confident, outspoken, funny, and absolutely refuses to let people walk all over her. I wasn't completely sure what to make of her in the beginning, but once I understood her better, I really fell for her personality. I especially loved how comfortable she was challenging Callan and deliberately getting a reaction out of him.
The setup was such a good one. Charlotte and her brother Chris suddenly find themselves competing for control of their father's company, with the added complication of having to switch positions within the business. Charlotte is desperate to keep the career she loves, so when she turns to Callan for assistance, their plan eventually leads them into a fake relationship.
Except... neither of them is particularly convincing at pretending they don't have feelings.
Their chemistry was SO good. The teasing, arguments, playful moments, and growing attraction created a ridiculous amount of tension. I kept wanting to yell at them to just admit what was happening between them already, while simultaneously hoping they wouldn't rush into anything because I was enjoying the buildup far too much.
And somehow Emma Kate managed to surprise me with their first kiss. I genuinely didn't see it coming, which is impressive considering how often romance plots give you a pretty obvious roadmap of what's coming next. That moment worked because the tension had been building without making everything completely predictable.
I did have one small issue with the romance. Charlotte and Callan went from being somewhat awkward with each other to feeling very natural together a little faster than I would have preferred. I would've enjoyed having more scenes showing that gradual shift and letting their comfort with one another develop on the page. Still, once they clicked, I absolutely loved watching them together.
What really stood out to me beyond the romance was the way Emma Kate addresses women in positions of authority. Charlotte's experiences with sexism and misogyny were frustrating to read because they felt so unfair, and the situations involving Addie and her career as a referee added another important layer to that discussion. I appreciated that the book didn't shy away from showing the double standards women can face when they're trying to succeed in spaces where they're not always taken seriously.
At its heart, though, this is a story about two people who become each other's safe place. Callan brings so much unconditional support into Charlotte's life, while Charlotte challenges him to stop measuring his worth by what he can do for everyone else. Their relationship has communication, affection, ridiculous banter, genuine support, and that kind of chemistry that makes it impossible not to root for them.
This is easily going on my list of favorite fake-dating romances. Emma Kate gave me exactly the kind of sports romance I love: funny, emotional, swoony, full of tension, and centered around characters who actually feel connected.
I'm definitely going back for the first book, and after getting a glimpse of Addie and Nate, I already know their story is one I'm going to want to read next.
AHHHHHHH!!!! This is the 2nd book in the In Her League series by Emma Kate, and I loved it even more than the first!
The story picks up with Charlotte (aka “Princess”) and Callan (aka “Ball Boy”). I love that Emma Kate gives us a little glimpse of the next couple at the end of each book, because I definitely knew after the first book that Charlotte and Callan were going to be next!
And let me just say… TALK ABOUT A SWOONY MMC. I absolutely loved Callan. He is the ultimate golden retriever boyfriend—the kind of man everyone should have in their lives. 🥹 He is supportive, encouraging, and just genuinely there for Charlotte.
I will say, I found it a little odd that Callan immediately agreed to fake date Charlotte when they didn't really have a friendship or relationship beforehand. BUT, I actually think the fake-dating trope was done really well.
SPOILERS AHEAD 🚨
I really loved how the story took its time building Charlotte and Callan's relationship and showing their dynamic develop.
Charlotte has been working for the Stallions football team in the Entertainment division and has always planned on eventually owning half the company alongside her twin brother when their father retires. Except… her father decides to throw a wrench into those plans and forces Charlotte and her brother to switch roles.
Suddenly, Charlotte is responsible for taking over the football side of the Stallions.
Cue the fake dating!
Charlotte, in true word-vomit fashion, gets herself into a situation when she tells her father that she's dating the Stallions' quarterback. So naturally, what is the only logical next step? Fake date Callan and move in with him.
Their chemistry was SO good. And one of my favorite things was that this wasn't insta-love or insta-lust. We actually got to see their relationship develop throughout the story. It isn't necessarily a super slow burn, but there is definitely a strong focus on relationship development, and I really appreciated that.
Charlotte also has to keep the business side of things from Callan, including the fact that the current GM, Hugo, is trying to trade him to a different team. This is one of the main focuses of the story.
And Charlotte? She is a badass.
She's incredibly intelligent and takes on her new role head-on. She works to learn every aspect of the football side of the business and proves that she absolutely belongs there. And throughout all of it, Callan is right beside her, cheering her on.
What I especially loved was that Charlotte didn't need Callan to succeed. He was her biggest cheerleader, but he wasn't the reason she was successful.
At the beginning of the book, Charlotte asks Callan to help her secure a sponsor for the team, and she genuinely believes she needs him to make it happen. Because, obviously, why would a woman be able to accomplish something in a man's world without a man helping her? SIKE. 😂
By the end, Charlotte proves that she can absolutely do it on her own. She lands the sponsor herself AND takes down Hugo herself (even if her brother had to be the one to officially deliver the news).
I really loved that aspect of her character arc. Charlotte didn't have to become successful because Callan helped her. She became successful because she was already capable of doing it herself—she just had to realize it.
Overall, I REALLY enjoyed this book! The series definitely got better with this one, and I loved Charlotte and Callan's story. Callan was an absolute dream MMC, and I loved watching their relationship grow.
Okay, this was such a perfect sequel to book one! And honestly, if you haven’t read the first book, you could still totally read this one as a standalone. The author did such a great job giving us just enough backstory that you’ll never feel lost, while still keeping the focus on Charlotte and Callan’s story. When I heard this was a fake dating romance I knew I was going to love it, and it absolutely did not disappoint! I had a slight feeling back in book one, whenever Charlotte and Callan interacted, that their “insults” were more banter than actual dislike. So when everything finally clicked in this book, I was SQUEALING! I was ready for it! I was invested in this storyline from the moment Daddy Dearest announced he wasn’t splitting the business. And let me just say…I am STILL super pissed off about that for Charlotte and her brother. They spent their entire lives preparing to split the company, and it seems like they most likely structured their careers around that plan. So for him to suddenly change everything? Yeah. It really irked me. I’m still fuming lol.
SPOILER ALERT FROM HERE ON OUT: I was SO happy when the infamous fake relationship turned into a real relationship. Fake dating might be quickly becoming one of my favorite tropes because I was cheering these two on the entire time. And honestly, even I was convinced they were actually together before they figured that out themselves. The ending was definitely bittersweet. I loved that Daddy Dearest changed his mind, and I was happy with where everything ultimately landed. BUT…I have some feelings about that “years later” epilogue. I’m not sure we needed it, I actually feel like the book ended perfectly when it was announced that they weren’t choosing just one person to run the company AND Charlotte and Callan finally announced that their relationship was real. That felt like such a satisfying ending! Because WHY did we have to skip all the fun stuff?! I wanted to see them taking back over their original roles, the wedding, the retirement, all of it! Give me the details lol. The time jump just kind of fell flat for me. I love where it left us, but I also hate that we skipped over so much. That said…now I’m SUPER HYPED for book three! Although I have a feeling the timeline is going to throw me off a little after skipping so many years. I already can’t wait to see where this series goes next!

Tropes 🩷Fake Dating 🩷Football Romance 🩷full banter 🩷She is the owner's daughter 🩷Workplace romance
First and foremost I would like to thank Author Emma Kate and Netgalley for giving me the ARC Copy of the book in return for an honest review. Im truly grateful
Honestly, this book was such a cute and fun read! If you’re up for a good sports romance where the FMC is the BOSS, this one is definitely for you. This book had me laughing, giggling, kicking my feet, and swooning over certain moments. The romance, banter, and spice had me completely enjoying the book from beginning to end.
This story follows Callan and Charlotte, with Callan being a player for the team Charlotte owns, and honestly, the vibes between these two were SO cute and hilarious. Especially my gurl Charlotte had me absolutely cackling. She is the perfect combination of boss and fun, and I had such an amazing time reading her inner monologues. I loved how random she was, and I absolutely loved how unapologetically herself she was. Honestly, QUEEN behaviour. I would definitely borrow her personality if I could.
And the way she was just as down bad for Callan as Callan was for her??? Yep. EXACTLY what I love in a book. Give me two characters who are completely gone for each other and I’m sold.
They kept saying it was fake. Just pretense. But that pretense was crying in the corner because WHERE was the fake in all of this??? From the beginning till the end, these two already felt like they were in love. Even though they were fake dating, it definitely felt like they were already together emotionally.
And my man Callan??? This man was SO helpful. At this point, I genuinely feel like if Charlotte asked him to marry her, he would probably say yes without even thinking twice. This man never says no 😭 And I’m assuming he didn’t say no to being completely down bad for Charlotte either because these two were fake dating minus the fake. That is exactly what it felt like reading about them.
I loved the way Callan never hesitated to be there for Charlotte, the way he defended her, and the way he loved her exactly for who she was. Their banter, cute moments, romance, and spice were all so much fun to read.
That being said, I did feel like their vulnerability and emotional depth could have been explored a little more. While I absolutely loved their personalities, I also felt like the fake-dating chemistry and tension weren’t quite there—or at least weren’t enough for me. I would have loved a little more tension and emotional buildup between them.
Overall, this was such a fun and entertaining sports romance, and I genuinely enjoyed reading it. It made me laugh, swoon, and kick my feet, and sometimes that is EXACTLY what I need from a romance. 💕
Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a fun sports romance with a boss FMC, a completely down-bad MMC, cute banter, spice, and a whole lot of fun!
Her Game Plan is book 2 in the In Her League series and although it is a standalone, I 100% recommend reading Book 1 Her Slap Shot because it's amazing.
Charlotte Langford has worked hard on being the best person to run the entertainment side to her family's legacy. The Langford empire has been split between her and her twin brother Chris, him being in charge of running the NFL team 'The Stallions' their family owns. When daddy Langford changes his mind that only one of the siblings will be left the entirety of the company when he retires, both siblings struggle to learn the ropes of their new positions.
Whilst always putting her career first and proving she's capable of being the leader her father needs, Charlotte's lack of love life is the one thing her father fears will be her downfall. Not one to lose, Charlotte impulsively drops she's in a serious relationship and they're already moving in together. The only problem? Charlotte doesn't have a boyfriend and the one they think she's dating is none other than Callan Devine, star quarterback of The Stallions.
Callan Devine is the ultimate good guy, always willing to help others and is liked and likes everyone. Well, everyone except Charlotte. The way she'd call him different names and positions just to rile him was delightful!
Pulling off fake dating is one thing, but pulling off actually living together without blearing the lines is harder than they thought.
Charlotte is the epitome of girly girl, bright clothes, high heels and always put together. So when she takes over The Stallions she's faced with sexism and misogyny from almost everyone. Adding the face that Addie is also female trying to break into a male dominated career and how she sees it in her work life was written so authentically.
Callan, god bless his soul, was so lovely but underneath it all I was heartbroken for the little boy he'd been. Growing up thinking he had to earn love and affection to keep people in his life shaped him to he the man he is today. Loyal and willing to do anything fpr those close to him( or anyone for that matter) he steps up when the team need him and is always first for football. I loved watching him learn that he already has those in his lives love and it wasnt something that he earned was amazing.
I can't wait to see what else is in store for book 3 and hopefully we see more of the side characters!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I haven't read the first book in this series yet (something I'm fixing immediately), but Her Game Plan worked perfectly well as a starting point, and honestly, it made me want to go back and start from the beginning.
This is a fake dating sports romance done right. Charlotte Langford is thrown into running her father's football team after he decides she needs to prove herself, and in a moment of pure panic, when her father tells her she's not enough "family-oriented, " she tells him she's dating the team's star quarterback, Callan Devine. Cue the fake relationship that, of course, doesn't stay fake for long.
What I loved most was Callan's characterization. He's the guy who never says no, and once you understand why, it recontextualizes everything about him. It's such a good window into his character, and it's genuinely refreshing to see that kind of selflessness explored in an MMC instead of the usual overconfident, emotionally unavailable archetype we tend to get. His inability to say no is what gets him tangled up with Charlotte in the first place, and watching him slowly learn that he doesn't have to earn love or approval by constantly saying yes to everyone was one of the most satisfying threads in the book.
Charlotte, meanwhile, is exactly the kind of boss FMC I want more of. She's sharp, capable, and never needs Callan to swoop in and save her professionally. The book takes real care to show her earning her place in a very male dominated industry, and it doesn't shy away from the misogyny she faces along the way. That takedown near the end was so satisfying. It's the kind of moment that makes you want to cheer out loud, watching her prove every doubter wrong on her own terms.
The banter and chemistry between Charlotte and Callan carry the book, and their fake dating slowly turning painfully real is exactly the kind of slow burn tension that makes this trope so addictive. It's a fun, swoony, occasionally laugh out loud read with a genuinely thoughtful core underneath all the romance.
Highly recommend for fans of fake dating, sports romance, and heroines who don't need saving. I'm very much looking forward to catching up on book one and getting to Addie and Nate's story next.
Charlotte Langford has spent years proving that she deserves to lead the family business, and she is convinced her biggest challenge is earning her father's trust. The last person she expects to clash with is Callan Devine, the star quarterback who seems impossible to ignore. Their conversations quickly turn into playful battles filled with sharp remarks, stubborn pride, and a rivalry that only grows stronger every time their paths cross. Callan has built his career by staying focused on football, helping everyone around him, and avoiding unnecessary drama. Charlotte is the one woman who refuses to treat him like everyone else does, and that constant challenge gets under his skin far more than he wants to admit. As unexpected circumstances push them closer, both begin to realize that first impressions rarely tell the whole story. What starts as a game of trying to outsmart each other slowly becomes something neither of them planned for. This is a fun contemporary sports romance packed with witty banter, lovable side characters, heartfelt family moments, and two ambitious people who must decide what truly matters when life refuses to follow their carefully designed plans. What stood out the most to me was how Charlotte and Callan constantly challenged each other. Their chemistry felt natural, and the humorous conversations kept the story entertaining from the beginning. I also liked that both characters had goals outside of the romance, which made them feel more realistic and gave the relationship a stronger foundation. The supporting cast added plenty of charm and made the world feel lively.
One small criticism is that the story occasionally slows down because of the focus on workplace and family dynamics, and a few scenes felt longer than necessary. Even so, the emotional development and the growing connection between the main characters made it easy to stay invested until the end.
I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy sports romances with enemies to lovers vibes, strong career driven characters, slow burn tension, witty dialogue, and stories where family relationships are just as important as the romance.
Oh my goodness this was such a cute book! This was my first book by Emma Kate, and I am impressed.
Tropes and what to expect: 💅 Fake Dating 💅 Possessive 💅 Boss Babe 💅 Football Player/Owner's Daughter 💅 Slow Burn 💅 Spice level: 🌶🌶
Charlotte and her brother both work for their dad's company. Her in the entertainment side and he leads the football team. They thought the plan was to each get their respective sides once their dad retires. But a curve ball is thrown at them and now they each have to run the other's side to see who inherits the company. Somehow, Charlotte not only has to prove she can handle the other side of the business, but she's roped herself in to a fake relationship with a man she hardly knows.
Callan (who for some unknown reason my brain kept wanting to call him Callahan? 🤣🤣) is the star quarterback of the Stallions - Charlotte's dad's team. She propositions him to help her out for a few months and him, being the generous soul he is, agrees. Somewhere along the way, it stops being fake and starts being real for them both.
Their dynamic and dialogue was some of the best I've read this year. It was playful and witty and poor Charlotte's word vomit was so adorable. There's tension and excitement throughout and you definitely find yourself going JUST KISS HER ALREADY. And that first kiss? THAT was good. So good I had to go back and reread the scene.
The reason for just 4 stars instead of 5 is because with all of the girl bossing in this book, Charlotte still ends up hiding behind the men. She "hides" behind Callan with the sponsors and she does the same with her brother when the issues with the GM arise. I just wish it would have been HER to stand up to everything. Emma really missed the mark with that one. I also wish she would have stood up to her father as well. Don't get me wrong. Charlotte is a strong woman, but that just fell a little short for me. I know she had it in her.
Overall I am very happy I decided to pick this book up and I recommend you give it a try.
Happy reading 🌻
Thank you to Emma Kate and NetGalley for a chance to read this ARC.
Charlotte has spent her life preparing to take over the entertainment side of her dad’s company, when a curve ball gets thrown and she has to take over the pro football team instead she goes all in. Enter Callan, our star quarterback with a heart of gold. In order to help out Charlotte, he agrees to fake date her, in order to show her family her devotion to family values. Between moving in together and their fake relationship the lines start to blur.
Callan is so sweet and caring for everyone around him, regardless of if he’s close to them or not to them he wants to help and have the best intentions for everyone no questions asked. And it’s soul destroying watching him explain his feelings from his family and early childhood. Charlotte is strong and takes no shit from anyone even if she may doubt herself she knows what she needs to do in order to get the job done and fight the battles thrown at her.
What made these two such a joy to read was they were just so nice and genuine - open communication, support for one another, unconditional love (even when they don’t realise it), and lots of banter.
I thought that Callan said yes to fake dating a little too easily, but he just wanted to help everyone to the best of his ability. The two naturally fell for each other so easily and built a sweet relationship and routine without even realising the sweet things they did or noticed about one another.
I love the fake dating and the nickname of “Princess” turned from teasing to a term of endearment and the forced proximity of the workplace romance upped the stakes when things got difficult.
Despite not being the biggest fan of American Football (or someone who has a lot of knowledge in it) I really enjoyed this book. I felt the sports / team moments easy to follow and I genuinely enjoyed watching their fake to real relationship bloom.
Her Game Plan is the second of the “In Her League” series. But also can be read as a standalone. I’m super excited to see where we see we go next within this series!
Fake dating Sports romance Only one bed Workplace romance
Thank you NetGalley and Emma Kate for this e-arc!!
This is my favorite of the two books that are currently out in the In Her League series! Charlotte and Callan are so cute! Charlotte is unapologetically herself. I love how she messes with the athletes egos by getting their names/sport/position wrong. Calling Callan “ball boy” even though he’s a quarterback was so funny! She had some good growth as well. She went from running the entertainment side of the industry to running the football side. Being a woman in a male dominated field is scary, but she showed no fear and I admire her for that.
Callan was sweet too. He wears his heart on his sleeve and stops to help anyone he can. His relationship with his Nan was adorable. The funniest thing was when he got Larsen’s jersey and wore it to tease Beckett. He has a lot of found family in this book which is a trope I looooove.
I also love fake dating, so this book really hit the spot. Typically in this trope, both parties get something out of the deal. However only Charlotte really benefited from the arrangement: make her dad believe she’s settling down and serious about starting a family. I found that plot line doesn’t move cohesively throughout the book. Her dad isn’t in the book very much and doesn’t really “fact check” their relationship and check in on typical milestones.
Another plot point I didn’t understand was Nans blatant hatred of Charlotte. I know Nans own son had his issues and she doesn’t want that for Callan, but she didn’t even give Charlotte a chance until the VERY end. I was frustrated with her. I also hated the miscommunication in the third act. Callan got upset for Charlotte not being able to tell him something that was confidential. I felt that it wasn’t fair and the miscommunication sprouted from that.
Besides my few little critiques, I really did enjoy the story! I’m excited to read about Addie and Nate next!
Sports romances continue to be some of my favorite comfort reads, and "fake relationship" is one of those tropes that I almost always enjoy. Add in a strong, career-driven heroine, and I knew this book would be right up my alley. Even though this is the second book in the “In Her League” series, I had no trouble jumping in and following the story.
This book hooked me right away with the competition between Charlotte and her twin brother, Chris, as they competed to prove who was best suited to take over their father's business empire. Charlotte took a little while to grow on me, but Callan won me over almost immediately. He is the type of character who always puts other people first, agreeing to help Charlotte without expecting anything in return. Watching their fake relationship slowly turn into something real felt natural, and I especially enjoyed the forced proximity once Charlotte moved in with him.
Callan was easily my favorite part of the story. His abandonment issues and close relationship with his grandmother added a lot of depth to his character, and I absolutely loved every scene he shared with Charlotte's niece, Marlee. Those quieter moments really showed who he was beneath the football star persona. I also liked that, when conflict inevitably arose, the story didn't rely on unnecessary drama. Instead, Charlotte worked to find a solution that benefited everyone, and I appreciated how her father's decision evolved by the end of the book.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. The romance was sweet, the football backdrop was fun, and the business competition kept things interesting throughout. The epilogue was especially satisfying with its glimpse into the future, and I also liked the tease for the next book in the series. I'll definitely be back to see where this world goes next.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
There's just something about a fake dating sports romance that gets me every single time, and Her Game Plan was such a fun read.
Charlotte was one of my favorite parts of the book. I absolutely love a badass girl boss, and she was exactly that. Smart, ambitious, confident, and determined to prove herself in a male-dominated industry, she refused to let anyone undermine her. I especially admired how fiercely protective she was of the people she loved and how hard she worked for everything she wanted.
Then there's Callan, who couldn't have been a more perfect match for her. Where Charlotte was bold and strategic, Callan was warm, patient, and emotionally mature. I adored how naturally caring he was — not just toward Charlotte, but toward everyone important in his life. He had such a gentle heart, and watching him fall hard made me smile more than once. He was willing to do whatever it took to make the people he loved happy, and that's exactly the kind of book boyfriend I can't resist.
The fake dating trope was so well done. I loved watching their professional arrangement slowly blur into something much more genuine, and their chemistry made the transition from fake to real feel completely believable. Emma Kate's writing also flowed effortlessly, making this one of those books that was incredibly easy to sink into.
It was also such a treat to see Finley and Beckett again. I always love reconnecting with characters from previous books, and their appearances made this interconnected series feel even more special.
Overall, Her Game Plan was a sweet, entertaining sports romance with lovable characters, great chemistry, and a heroine I couldn't help but root for. And after that ending I already need the next book! Judging by who the next main characters are, I have a feeling we're in for something equal parts emotional, chaotic, and completely unforgettable.
Thank you to Emma Kate and Book Funnel for this early copy to read! I was so ready to get back into this sports series and excited to be a part of the ARC Team again!

In Her League Book #2 Duel POV: Charlotte and Callan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️
Charlotte Langford has been working towards becoming the head of her father’s entertainment and sports company for basically her entire life. But when the decision to not split the business in half with her twin brother changes, she must find a way to show her dad that she was made for the position.
Callan Devine is, well, DEVINE! That man had it all. As the quarterback of the Stallions, he is a born leader and will do anything to help anyone. Especially a bright, bubbly woman in need. Their banter was hilarious and the you could tell he is just a golden retriever waiting to fall first for the woman of this dreams without even realizing it.
Not splitting the company for the two siblings and changing the plan out of the blue for them was a choice. I didn’t see how this plot line was realistic but I understand to grow the relationship between Charlotte and Callan they had to be around each other more. It’s also a more fun dynamic to have a “boss/employee” pair. I definitely enjoyed her proving everyone wrong and going to the beat of her own drum. She was heavily underestimated and did not let it get her down!
This is perfect for fans of the following tropes:
🏈Sports Romance 🏈Quarterback and Owner’s Daughter 🏈Slow Burn 🏈Forced Proximity 🏈Fake Dating 🏈Nicknames 🏈Guaranteed HEA
Her Game Plan releases on August 27 so preorder your copy today! It was such a fun read!
NGL I AM WAY STOKED FOR ADDIE AND NATE! Basketball player and woman referee - say less!!
Charlotte Langford can't wait for her father to retire. She is set to inherit the entertainment arm of his company, alongside her twin brother, Chris, who will inherit the sports team, the Denver Stallions. Her father concocts a scheme where Chris and Charlotte must switch their roles for one football season, which leaves her to run the team. She must also 'prove' her commitment to family, so she blurts out a fake relationship with the star quarterback of the Stallions, Callan Devine. Callan, a serial people-pleaser, is ever-so-willing to help her with her quandary, even as they move in together as part of her plan. What happens when fake turns into real feelings?
LOVED Charlotte's story!! After meeting her in Her Slap Shot, I couldn't wait to read this book! Charlotte is such a fun character. I loved her girlboss attitude and totally understood her working relationship with her father. Callan was the best golden retriever MMC I've met thus far. His intense need to be loved translated into people-pleasing, and I loved that it was Charlotte he fell for. He so deserved his big love. I loved his relationship with his grandmother - so sweet! It was fun to run into Finley and Beckett and to see that their relationship is progressing. I also liked meeting Nate and Addie, and I can't wait for their story next!! The tropes were very neatly done, with the fake dating and forced proximity written to perfection. I love how Emma writes her banter, and I really need to look into her other series! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes sports romance/workplace romance with these character types because they are some of the best, and you'll soon fall for them too 💜
Thank you to the author for providing this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
