I wonder if I just wasn’t in the right mood for these tropes. The set-up is interesting and I liked some of the components. My interest just faded the more smut I read, which there’s a lot of. It’s meant to be a quicker, spicier read with some dark touches that aren’t as dark as others in the series according to the author’s note. I do think that fits the story well. There are also well outlined content warnings that should be regarded.
Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama. The h seemed to be experienced and the H was never interested in anything beyond blood drinking prior to the h. He has to work to convince her that she’s his only experience too lol.

Overall, it’s a fairly straightforward premise of the h researching a vampire-like figure, going on a trip to find him, and discovering that he’s actually the king of a whole race that lives in another world. He was in our world to look for a possible mate. Oh and he’s going to keep the h because he was alerted to her research years prior and became obsessed with her back. Except he has to learn how to be with a human and makes some significant mis-steps in his demands and how he talks to her. Which also never completely dampen her interest. They figure out their relationship and the whole her officially becoming his mate, while getting very steamy. The ending is HEA and epilogue is very cute. This couple is certainly meant to be so a fated feel to it all.

This was such a fun and dirty read! I loved how obsessed Ciprian and Viviana were with each other; the two were so feral for one another and things got so steamy. I do, however, wish the plotline was a little further explored. We get introduced to a whole new world, and it basically boils down to nothing. Regardless, if you're in the mood for a dark and depraved romance that gets straight to the smut, this is the one for you!

This was very unhinged, smutty, entertaining and easy read.

Liked that MMCs actions and thoughts didn’t turn human-like straight after meeting FMC. Instead, his soft side developed gradually as they formed a deeper connection.
After all, who wouldn't find a bloodthirsty, cold monster swoony - when he is completely insane and down bad for his mate, doing everything possible to understand her and gain her trust? 😍
FMCs sometimes questionable behaviour and mental state, surprisingly fit here, she had her moments of strength and brattiness.
I think this was the only setting and execution where nickname “pet” didn’t appall me 😂

For the hunt, he did drank blood from females and few times tasted blood of males, but never felt anything sexual. no one intrigued him romantically or sexually before h.
They stalked each other, thought both did it differently, for about three years, so the h was celibate since she saw a picture of him.
There’s scene where h is naked for one of the mating trials which was televised for whole kingdom, as the trial happened very suddenly, H is furious about it and h didn’t care much atm, it was weird, considering at one point Hs father had her pinned to the wall 🤔

If you're looking for a filthy smutty read this one is for you. I really had different expectations for this book, I read vampire in the summary and assumed it was the regular ole, run of the mill vamp, not a monster romance. That's on me! I don't dislike monster romance. I've read several, so that wasn't an issue.
I just hate that the plot was virtually non existent and the implied consent was VERYYYY loosely implied in the beginning. Viviana up and leaves to another country to study abroad and to prove this males existence for her doctoral thesis. She "submits" to Ciprian (and I use that term loosely) within an hour of coming there... 😬
I will admit their relationship becomes much more tolerable near the end when he takes her feelings and wishes into consideration. I also can't lie and say I didn't enjoy the tail play. 🙈 The narration was really good, I just didn't love this one.

4.75 - 5 stars!
Viviana has been obsessed with the existence of vampires to the point she not only meant to make it her dissertation but tracked a man down through the ages that she believes to be one.
Ciprian is not human (not vampire either😂) and protects his peace and anonymity. So when he discovers someone has been sniffing around his secret he has to know who it is. When he discovers it’s Viviana he has an intense need to make her his pet.
Viviana thought she was tracking and surprising King Ciprian but it was really the other way around and soon Ciprian has her in his clutches. But what neither of them bargain for is the all consuming heat and connection these two share and the trials they will go through and overcome.
Lexi never fails with her MF paranormal romances. This was so smutty (I mean HOT AF) but also had such a wonderful plot and underlying theme of how trust and affection are built and won. I loved Ciprian. He was so dominant but in ways that felt naive and endearing. I really liked how he grew through this story and came to see Viviana as his equal and as his other half. Viviana was a really refreshing character because she was real. Her reactions felt genuine and fueled by both desire and vulnerability.
Ciprian was just such a force and I loved the way he loves Vivian. His complete infatuation, possessiveness and obsession was ❤️❤️❤️.

honestly i feel like may i just read this book at the wrong time for me?? i could genuinely see the potential in our characters (especially our fmc, i love a girl who is a little too obsessed with a topic, go girl get urself into deep shit lmaoo) but sadly i just found it a tiny bit difficult to fully connect with them?
this is a super quick, bingeable read for anyone who needs a fast pasted dark romance - do be warned that it is particularly on the darker side though (in my standards anyway) so definitely check the trigger warnings! i went into this a little bit blind and definitely got a little jumpscare at some of the content warnings that i missed!
in terms of narrators, i did find that this audiobook was very easy to listen to and fly through but i definitely found myself preferring the female narrated chapters - i will say this is TRULY just my preference so dont be surprised if you go in and end up loving botht eh male and female narrators! they did a great job and pulling this book along and making it super engaging throughout!

I admit that at my "young "age, the difference between paranormal romance and monster romance wasn’t clear to me, and I figured it out thanks to a tail Everything else went downhill from there, with the almost completely absent plot giving way to a series of scenes that are more pornographic than erotic, and where consent isn’t particularly important—if it’s not completely misunderstood. Terrible—I didn’t even finish reading it.

Audiobook
Auron Wood did such a good job with his narration that it actually felt a little strange imagining Viviana being in a relationship with a creature who's lived for a thousand years! That said, I enjoyed Lisa Zimmerman's narration! She brought both femininity and a sense of determination to Viviana's character, especially during certain scenes.
Now, onto the story... because WHAT WAS GOING ON in the first half? Around 50% mark, I was seriously considering DNFing this audiobook. Like, my man, instead of immediately thinking about claiming her, how about explaining that she's in danger and actually helping her survive the trials that are supposed to make her your Queen?! I get that this is probably the kind of story you need to read when you're in full feral mode, because the first half had me questioning everything. Thankfully, their relationship becomes much more tolerable towards the end, especially when he finally starts taking her feelings and wishes into consideration. And I'll admit, the smut delivered! The tail play was definitely a highlight for me. My biggest disappointment, though, was the worldbuilding. We're introduced to this whole new world of Strigoi, but the plot doesn't explore it as much as I'd hoped. There's so much potential here, and I wish we'd gotten more than what ultimately felt like a backdrop for the romance. Overall, the narration was a highlight, and there were definitely things I enjoyed, but the story itself was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Entertaining in parts and frustrating in others.

3.5 stars: I am going to start by saying that I can understand the fascination with Romania, the Carpathian Mountains are exquisite and the atmosphere is certainly captivating. Ciprian was quite the character for sure - unapologetic, obsessive, possessive and completely smitten with his mate. Viviana did risk it all, all the research, the pursuit of proof for the existence of supernatural creatures and her effort did pay off as she not only found him, but also ended up being his mate.
As interesting as the concept was, I needed something more from the story. I am in a certain mood and probably that does impact on my reading experience, but I needed more emotions, more time for them to bond. If you are in the mood for a seductive, pretty passionate story then this might be a good story to try.

Lexi C Foss has been on my TBR list for so long, I'm incredibly happy to finally get a chance to read/listen to her work. Dark Obsessions is a very entertaining read with a unique take on vampires. If you like your books scorching hot on the spicy scale, you won't be dissapointed A vampire with not exsactly human appearance, tail play, master-pet dynamic, and so much more.

I would have personally loved for the world to be fleshed out more [why it's 4.5 stars for me] but hey, Dark Obsessions is not pretending to be something it's not, which I always appreciate!

Only the fact that this is monster smut made it listenable in terms of my own sensibilities. MMC is not human, he is the king of vampire-like creatures called the strigoi, and therefore the concept of explicit consent has to be taught to him – which FMC does throughout the book.

5 star voice actor casting – beautiful, sexy, raspy voices – perfection! And while they narrated separate chapters, the voices went so well together back-to-back. 🥹

This was for sure a dark and very spicy obsessive monster romance short story. She's obsessed with proving monsters are real, and he's the monster she's been searching for, obsessed with making her his plaything. One of them's a virgin, and it's not who you'd think.... Oh, and he has a tail and gets very good at using it.

This was such a great short story about vampires or Strogi as they are called in this book. The characters are amazing ans have such great banter as they try to figure out their new relationship. Viviana and Ciprian are such fun together. Loved the book and hope to see more from other characters.

Dark, addictive and vampire themed but better. Smutt forward but still giving plot and there was growth between both characters. The mutual obsession between the two is what really made the book for me.

If you love a possessive, protective, and dominating strigoi MMC paired with an independent human FMC who absolutely refuses to put up with his crap, this one might be for you!
The FMC is not afraid to call the MMC out when he crosses a line, and she makes sure he knows why he’s in the wrong. I loved that she stood her ground and didn’t let him get away with everything. And the way she enjoyed getting under his skin just a little? 😂 Those moments added some fun humor to the story!
The MMC took some time to soften up, but once he did, he was soft for only her. Watching that possessive, dominant side of him turn into something a little more tender when it came to her was definitely a highlight. I also got a kick out of his dislike of being called a vampire, especially as things between these two got increasingly more spicy. The spice was definitely SPICING!
The story gets 3.50⭐️'s from me, but the spice I'm rating at a solid 5 out of 5! I also appreciated that this was a shorter read with an easy-to-follow paranormal romance storyline. It didn’t require a ton of effort to keep up with the world or the plot, making it a fun choice when you want something quick, spicy, and a little dark.

🎧 DNF at 10% (1 h 5 m into the audiobook)
I don't know what happened here. Tantor usually does well with audiobooks, but someone dropped the ball on this one.
Why I DNF'd:
- The male narrator has extremely odd pronunciation, which made it difficult for me to understand what he was saying. In almost every sentence, at least one word was scuffed, making the audiobook unlistenable. His cadence was off, too. He would randomly speed up for just a few words at a time, so I couldn't find a comfortable listening speed. I kept slowing down and replaying sections, only to realise that my comprehension wasn't the problem. The narration was. Also, I wouldn't have clocked the accent as Romanian, considering the MMC has a Romanian name. Note that I didn't finish the book, though, so there might be a cliffhanger waiting to happen.
- The female narrator was fine when voicing the FMC. She sounded feisty and determined, so good choice there.
- I'm not sure what happened with the MMC's best friend's accent. I felt like both narrators went with the "imagine you have a hot potato in your mouth" approach, but then the FMC mentions that he sounds Slavic? I'm Slavic, and I'd say he sounded vaguely British.
- All I can tell about the actual story is that it's very horny, but it's monster erotica, so that's to be expected. My issue is, again, with the MMC's narration. He goes to lurk on the FMC while she's sleeping, and his thoughts are narrated in such a way that I imagined him as a town creep constantly licking his lips in a wannabe-sexy way.
There are a lot of positive reviews for this audiobook, so it's entirely possible that I'm just more sensitive to narration issues than other listeners.

Dual narration with Lisa Zimmerman and Auron Wood - enjoyed the narrations with both, would have LOVED for this one to be a duet
I loved the dynamic between Vivi and Ciprian - he's an ancient Strigoi with endless patience waiting for the perfect mate and when he finds her, whatever was left is GONE and he just wants her. Seeing how clueless Ciprian was when it came to their intimacy was a pleasant surprise and I loved watching him learn while also be absolutely stubborn about the entire situation
Vivi was a decent FMC - she's been searching for Ciprian for years and is determined to find him, not knowing that he's already found her. I just got annoyed with the whole "I know what I'm signing up for" and then her being upset with him over how he handles her when she first arrives - come on girly you gotta choose one or the other you can't really get both.
I was also upset with the trials - they were making them sound extremely deadly but her trials ultimately seemed pretty tame. I was hoping for some kind of crazy fight or magic scene but we didn't really get any sort of conflict when it came to the trials - it makes sense when it's explained at the end but I was really hoping for some crazy action somewhere

What can I say about this book.
Was it fun, yes? Was the plot limited, yes. But it was exactly what it was trying to give.
Imagine studying a creature only to realize he’s also been stalking you. And oh plot twist, you’re his fates mate.
The line of non con since to be blurred, yet this is a monster romance with fated mates. Therefore within this world, it fits.
Was a fun read. I enjoyed the dual narration. The narrators were able to do a great job bringing Vic and her Demon to life. I would have enjoyed a duet narration more, as the narrators did better voicing their character , the best. Yet it was very enjoyable.

If you love a good, fast-paced PNR story where the spicy is flowing early and frequently this book is for you! Lexi does a good job giving a backstory into the characters, giving a full plot in a short amount of pages.
The fmc is on a vampire historical hunt when she finds info about a Strogoi King. This King becomes aware of her research and takes an interest in her, devising a plan to bring her to him, and things take off.

This was.........fine? It was mostly smut with some inklings of plot, which was not what I was expecting from the blurb, but I'm not entirely mad about it. The reason my rating is lower is mostly because I was not a huge fan of the first half of the relationship's progression. It felt very coercive and not like it was a mutually pleasant exchange of power between the two characters, which took away some of the enjoyment for me. I'm fine with darker dynamics in my romance, so long as both parties are into it and that is obvious through their POV. I understand why the author made the choices they did, I just didn't vibe with it.
This is a fine book if you're looking for a lot of spice (a lot of spice) and an easy read for the spooky season.

Dark and delicious
This was such a fun read. I love how the spice was very much a part of all the plot. But the plot still was very entertaining it highlighted the spice. I hope we get a book for the FMC's best friend in the MMC's best friend because that just has to be delightful.

This one just wasn’t for me. It felt a little too unintentionally campy. It was a quick and easy read, though, so it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of Lexi’s!

This is a great book for monster spice!! A girl obsessed with vampires so much so she goes looking for them for her dissertation Instead she finds a hot strigoi from another world here to find a woman suited enough to be his intended mate. A whole bunch of spice with tail play. The audiobook made it that much more enjoyable!!

Honestly, this was a weird-ass read! This is more like… monster fucker finding the monster she has been stalking for three (or more) years and just being horny on main.
This was particularly small - at nearly six hours for an audiobook.
ˋ°•*⁀➷ The MMC being an immortal virgin was actually very funny. Half this book is her being a yearning mess for her and basically trying to find a way to do better
+ The voice actor for the MMC, while, if we are honest he is a little weaker than the voice actress for Viviana does give a good depth of character to Ciprian and manages to read some of the more raunchy scenes while not making them cringe.
જ⁀➴ The FMC, Viviana has one of the funniest inner monologues especially for a book that is basically 90% smut! While she has been obsessed with the subject of her "research" she stands her ground - first with Marius (who did annoy me to no end for the better part of the book except at the end of the book where Viviana's best friend Gaby comes along) and with Ciprian who has no concept of consent?? Something that she dead ass

Dark Obsessions is a fast-paced, spicy, vampire, or Strigoi romance. Viviana is obsessed with proving vampires are real and Ciprian becomes obsessed with her. Their romance is fast and intense, and Ciprian's tail does some interesting things.
