She came to a small town to write a love story, not accidentally star in one. Audrey Quinn is a bestselling author who’s just been handed the worst assignment of her career: write a romance novel. Why? She has zero experience with love. When a looming deadline sends her spiraling, an invitation to house-sit for the summer in Alderbrook, Ontario, feels like a timely escape and the perfect place to find inspiration.
On her first day in town, she accidentally steals a coffee belonging to an attractive stranger — Mack Bennett. The easygoing bookseller is kind and funny, with an incredible smile. He’s even dreamier than the characters Audrey writes about. Still, love is the last thing she’s looking for, especially with the secrets she’s keeping and a past she’s not ready to unpack. But when he asks her out, Audrey makes a reckless decision. It’s the perfect opportunity for research. Just a few dates, strictly for the story.
Alderbrook has a way of getting under her skin, and so does Mack. As just-this-once turns into something real, Audrey finds herself falling for the town, her new friends, and the man who makes her feel braver than she’s ever been.
But Mack doesn't know that Audrey is a famous author writing under a secret name or that she’s only in town for the summer. So Audrey tries to handle the truth about her real life before it crashes into the one she’s built in Alderbrook.
And for the first time in her life, she can’t control how this story ends.

It takes place in a small quaint town named Alderbrook where everyone knows each other. This book just had me in my feels and I absolutely adored the main characters Mack and Aubrey.

Audrey moves to Alderbrook to house-sit her aunt’s home for the summer, where she meets Mack, our golden retriever MMC. Their dynamic had me giggling and kicking my feet the entire time. Watching their relationship unfold was so much fun, and their chemistry made it impossible not to root for them.
Lauren had me hooked from the very first chapter—especially with the iconic coffee theft scene. If you know, you know. ☕️✨

You're going to fall for the cozy small town of Alderbrook. It's the type of place I'm dying to move to after finishing this read! From a quaint cafe, a bakery I'm dying to try, gorgeous surrounding nature, and of course Mack's bookstore, everything in this town is making me wish I could visit.
I loved seeing Audrey's character arc in this book. The way she developed and came out of her shell was just beautiful! Mack was the perfect book boyfriend, supporting her at every moment. And the romance between them was sizzling hot, and had me questioning how they would overcome Audrey's secrets at every turn 🤫!
Special shout out to the obsession over coffee in this novel!! Their cafe meet-cute lives in my head rent free! ☕
Thank you to Lauren Flynn for having me beta and arc read this amazing book!
If you’re Canadian, you may feel a special connection to the town of Alderbrook, just like Audrey and Mack. But even if you’re not, Lauren’s writing makes it effortless to become immersed in the setting, capturing the charm of a small town in Ontario in a way that feels authentic.
For the Story beautifully evokes the emotions of an early romance, and took me right back to those first-date feelings: the butterflies, anticipation, adrenaline, vulnerability, awkwardness, and giddiness of falling in love.
Watching Audrey and Mack’s relationship unfold, especially their chemistry, had me rooting for them so hard that I was flying through the pages to see what would happen next.
I’m already looking forward to rereading For the Story this summer, with an iced coffee and a pastry in hand.
For the Story is a charming and heartfelt small-town romance. It had me feeling all the things, and I absolutely devoured it!
This is a beautiful story that showcases the FMC finding herself and flourishing. Mix that with an absolutely swoon-worthy MMC and some truly incredible side characters, it made me so excited for what it to come next in this series!
Lauren Flynn has done a remarkable job at painting detailed pictures, and a compelling plot that had me captivated and eager to turn the page. It felt like a relatable and realistic fairytale. Easily a story to inspire and give the reader hope.
I really wanted to love this book as it’s a hometown author. However I just didn’t find myself connecting with the characters. The setting was described vividly but I found the characters a little flat and could have been flushed out more. I think some of the dialogue felt unnatural at times and for me that was my main issue.
The story has a very hallmark feel to it if hallmark movies had sex scenes. Audrey is an author who needs to write a romance novel and she starts dating Mack to help her write her story but then falls for him. Again cute idea just felt like something was missing for me.
This sweet and spicy small town romance is about an introverted writer looking for romantic inspiration and a teacher turned bookstore owner who loves his coffee the same way she does. One of the things I love best about a small town romance is the found family and quirky details, and this has all of that in spades (Gilmore Girl vibes). Top tier book boyfriend material here with a feel-good plot, perfect for summer reading.
This book was so cute! It has that cozy feeling and honestly made me want to drink coffee the whole time. Iykyk. The FMC goes through quite the character arc and comes out stronger and more confident by the end. Mack, our MMC, was so likable from the start! I loved him! If you're looking for a quick, cute and fun romance, For The Story fits the vibe.
