Robotic Conversations

I like this series first and foremost. I did not like the conversations between the characters in this book. The conversations were very robotic and wooden. There was no humor and no emotion between the characters. There was a lot of repeating by characters that the other character in the conversation said. I would love to see more typical military banter take place rather than the robotic conversations of this book.
The author is detailed to the point where dates and times seem to be a focal point rather than the story.
Again this is a good series especially if you are a fan of alternate history. I look forward to more of the series but really want to see a more human side to the characters.

I enjoyed "THE DEEP PACIFIC" with a lot of memories from my cousins who were involved with the fighting in the south pacific, alot of it was horrifying. One of the things that I remember was when you mentioned "the cats", the D7 dozers modified with 90 MM cannon, (I didn't know about them), was a modified version of them when I was at Fort Hood, Texas in 1955, I saw what was called a Scorpion. It was a little larger than a Jeep and was equipped with a 90MM cannon, a 50 cal. and I think a 30 ca. ( not sure). It came with a 3 man crew with the tank commander as the 90 gunner and the loader was the gunner of the 50 cal and the only armor was a steel plate in front of each of the crew, ( it was open ). It was powered by a V6 GMC that was fuel injected and super charged,(gasoline). I understand it was light so it could be parachuted . That was a long time ago for me.

Still a good War Story

While this novel veers off into excessive details here and there it is mostly an entertaining character driven story. Looking forward to the next novel in the series.

I'm something of a WW2 buff. Familiar with many of the characters in the books in this series. Enjoy the alternative history slant. I really enjoy the author's writing style. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

I would have happily given this book five stars if the dialog hadn't seemed so...lifeless.

They were talking more like robots or automatons than real people. The military people on the front lines didn't appear to have any emotions.

But it IS a ripping good story, otherwise.

People seemed to live

Helped remembering. I was a kid in the 40s. I
like reading history in a novel that makes the story with live. The text books were quick but life seem to be left out.

riveting

The third book continues with an alternative series of events in a non connected Axis powers war one in Europe and this Pacific Japanese war.

Yamamota is still trying to disengage from the war but is thwarted by Tojo and the Army. Meanwhile, US air superiority continues to destroy the Japanese Navy and Air Force. This series continues as an interesting look at an alternative World War II history.
