Rate this book
In the summer of 1989, Kari and her six friends head to Shallow Lake Campground in Cypress Hills... tucked deep between towering trees and shadowed mountains. It’s supposed to be a carefree escape.

Until the first night, when one of them disappears.

At first, they blame the wilderness. Bears. Mountain lions. The kind of dangers everyone warns you about. But then someone slashes all the campers tires, and more of them start to vanish.

Some are taken by the forest. Others… are taken by something else.

Wow this is so creepy. This book kept me on the edge of the seat. This story really made you second guess ever going camping again. This was so well written. I love how this story is written in the same campground with the other 2 authors. Definitely a spooky summer read

Cypress Hills Nightmare by Jessica Lynn Sorensen
My Bloody Camping Collection 3

Another hour very well spent.

Some days my brain is running on approximately three functioning brain cells, and these books are exactly what the doctor would prescribe… if the doctor had questionable judgment and a love for fictional bloodshed.

Once again we’re back in the glorious late ’80s. A group of friends. Tents. Bonfires. Drinks. Slashed tires. You know… the usual ingredients for a relaxing camping trip.

At this point I genuinely feel offended there are only three books in this collection because I inhaled them like the feral little reading gremlin I apparently become whenever camping meets horror.

What I loved most about this one is that it takes a different direction. It isn’t just run, scream, survive. The real question becomes… what exactly is hunting them? And maybe an even bigger question: how well do you actually know the people you’re sharing a campsite with?

Because let’s be honest… I’d trust an angry bear before I’d trust anyone, who suddenly says, “Guys, I know a shortcut.”

The forest has its own secrets, its own predators, and sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s more dangerous—the wildlife or your so-called friends. Is it kill to survive? Kill for revenge? Or is everyone just making spectacularly bad life choices? You’ll have to find out for yourself because I refuse to become the Spoiler Goblin.

This was the perfect bloody cherry on top of the My Bloody Camping Collection. If nothing else, it teaches an important life lesson: maybe don’t go camping with just any friends… and definitely don’t camp in a forest that practically screams, You are absolutely not making it home.

Five trapped-in-the-woods stars from me. Now excuse me while I avoid camping forever… unless it’s fictional.

A huge thank you to Jessica Lynn Sorensen for another edge-of-your-seat thriller! Cypress Hills Nightmare pulled me in immediately and refused to let go. From the moment the friends arrived at the campground, there was an uneasy feeling hanging over everything, and that sense of dread only grew stronger with each chapter.

What I loved most was the atmosphere. The remote setting, the darkness surrounding the campsite, and the growing realization that they were not as safe as they thought created an incredibly tense reading experience. As people started disappearing and fear began to take hold, I found myself completely invested in what was happening and desperate to uncover the truth.

The pacing was fantastic. The story never seemed to slow down, and just when I thought I had a handle on where things were going, another shocking development changed everything. The suspense kept building until the very end, making it nearly impossible to put the book down. I constantly found myself saying, “Just one more chapter,” only to keep reading far longer than I intended.

The uncertainty of who could be trusted and who would survive added another layer of intensity. Every character felt like they could be the next victim, which made the stakes feel incredibly high throughout the entire story.

If you're a fan of fast-moving thrillers, isolated settings, mysterious disappearances, and nonstop suspense, Cypress Hills Nightmare is definitely worth adding to your reading list. It's a chilling, addictive read that delivers plenty of tension, surprises, and late-night page-turning moments.

The ultimate reminder: Seriously, stay out of the woods!" 🌲🔪🩸

I devoured this story in just three days, and once again, Jessica Lynn Sorensen has left me completely stunned. If there is a rule in the horror genre, it’s that a group of friends camping in the woods is the ultimate Red Flag. I’ve said it a thousand times—stay away from the forest!—but some people just never learn.

Why this book is a 5-star adrenaline rush:

Non-stop Tension: From the very first chapter, I felt pure adrenaline and genuine chills. I had an authentic, desperate need to know what was going to happen next.

Character Depth: Every character brings something valuable to the story, which makes the stakes feel much higher when things start to go wrong.

The Master of Suspense: Jessica Lynn Sorensen is, without a doubt, the Queen of thrillers and suspense. PERIOD! Her writing style is sharp, and she knows exactly how to craft a journey into the unknown.

That Ending: The plot twist left me speechless, but the final conclusion? It was even more terrifying. It’s the kind of ending that haunts you long after you close the book.

Final Thoughts:

My only regret is that I didn't save this for October! The atmosphere is so creepy and perfectly suited for that spooky season. Reading a book by Jessica is always a new adventure into the darkness, and she truly outdid herself with this collection.

Verdict: If you want a story that delivers thrills, chills, and a twist you won't see coming, look no further. Congratulations to the author for such an incredible piece of work! 🌟💀

This 80s camping slasher is easily one of my favorite books by this author! The pacing was fast from start to finish, keeping me hooked the entire time. There were so many twists and turns. This author is one of my favorites, and every book Sorensen writes is my next new favorite. She definitely never disappoints. If you're a fan of retro slasher novels packed with suspense, surprises, and classic camp horror vibes, this is definitely a book you don't want to miss.

Cypress Hills Nightmares

A weekend camping trip that starts with seven friends . Music, tents, cookouts in the woods . Lions, bears, and friends start vanishing. Is it something in the woods or a creepy guy on the grounds ? This book will keep you turning pages until the very last one. Awesome work Jessica! I'm so glad I have the other two in the collection. Trust no one.

Amazing

Hooked from the beginning!! Kari and her friends go camping to get out and explore nature. But when they wake, their tires are slashed and their friend Evan is missing. Where did he go and who would slash the tires?

I read this book quickly and absolutely loved it.

Feeling an 80s slasher? This is for you!! So much detail involved, and very twisty! Was definitely very creepy, and I don't think I'll be camping anytime soon, or at least not in the middle of nowhere lol.

Thank you to Jessica Lynn Sorensen for this intense, binge-worthy thriller! Cypress Hills Nightmare hooked me right from the start and kept the tension building the entire way through.

The atmosphere was so creepy and unsettling, especially once the group realizes something is very wrong at the campground. The isolation, the disappearing friends, the growing panic—it all created that perfect “something is hunting them” feeling that kept me flipping pages late into the night.

I loved how fast-paced and suspenseful this story was. Every time I thought things might calm down, another twist or terrifying moment pulled me right back in. The sense of danger felt constant, and I genuinely didn’t know who would make it out alive.

If you love survival thrillers, campgrounds with dark secrets, and stories that keep escalating chapter after chapter, definitely pick this one up. Such a fun and gripping read!

Jessica has a way of making me not trust anyone!

Camping with friends should be fun and exciting, right? Well this trip over Memorial Day weekend may have been the wrong choice for that.

Another flashback to the 80s slasher movies by another author I will read anything she puts out!
