ABOUT THE LONDON FLAT & THE IRISH COTTAGE The Irish Cottage was inspired by Jules’ love for all things Irish. A love sparked in her teens by Riverdance; fanned into a flame when she befriended a group of Irish kids in France; and blazed into a wildfire by a visit to the Ireland.
Earlier this year, an AncestryDNA test confirmed what Jules has suspected for a while: she’s part Irish (one of her grandparents continues to be unknown but as luck would have it, the test divined that he must have been an Irish-Scot-Swede).
The London Flat was inspired by Jules’ time living in London. It’s her very favorite city.
The London Flat: Second Chances is an international women’s literary fiction romance novel with three books in the novel series. Other themes include: romance literary fiction, women’s sagas, love stories, and second chances at life.
Juliet is originally from California. She is a true, hopeless, all-in romantic. Her first kiss was with a Frenchman in Paris, her first love was an Eagle Scout, her first crash and burn was with someone from Harvard (Jules studied history at Yale—she should have known better). When she isn't writing she can be found photographing landscapes, binge watching entire series on Netflix, or dancing the international cha cha.
She lives for the real magic in the world—it exists—in the form of an ancient building, a kind smile from a stranger, the inexplicable experiences that come from being in love, an erotic encounter with a gorgeous international stranger…
The Irish Cottage was inspired by Jules’ love for all things Irish. A love sparked in her teens by Riverdance; fanned into a flame when she befriended a group of Irish kids in France; and blazed into a wildfire by a visit to the Emerald Isle.
Earlier this year, an AncestryDNA test confirmed what Jules has suspected for a while: she’s a third Irish (one of her grandparents continues to be unknown but as luck would have it, the test divined that he must have been an Irish-Swede).
I tore through the first book in this series and was excited to see what would happen in this one. It was good, but not as good as I would’ve liked. The characters, although in their 30s, act much younger and pretty immature. The plot twists were almost ridiculous, but I’m far enough into these characters that I’ll keep reading the next books to see how their story ends...hoping it will improve!
I love the story. I don't always love Elizabeth, she is often obtuse and always stubborn. But she loves with all of her heart whether it be Connor or her photography. This is not a stand-alone novel. It is the second in a trilogy. It really could have been one long book but I suppose the publisher felt dividing it into 3 parts was more cost-effective! I am moving right on to #3!
Beth has returned to England to try and find Matthieu, as Mags had asked her. She has also returned to England to reconnect with old friends. She is enjoying taking pictures again. It has reignited a passion in her. I’m looking forward to find out what happens next. A definite must read.
The second in the series was just as enjoyable as the first. Romance isn't my thing but the author blends it nicely with a lot of fun, interesting situations, characters, and locations. Loved the bonus tour of Hogwarts scene!
Book 2 of the Irish heart series. Elizabeth has moved on to London after finishing the letters left to her by her grandmother whom she called Mags. She reconnects with friends she had 15 years ago while living there. Conner shows back up . Love these books.
These are definitely my guilty pleasure books. I picked this series back up because I found myself thinking about the characters and I just had to know what happened. I wouldn’t say it literary genius, but it’s a cozy entertaining romance that sometimes you just need to get lost in. They are also fast reads and that’s really nice when you just want something quick and entertaining!
This book started like I felt I knew it was going to end ... but no ... it really surprised me ... it was so emotional and has lovely surprises... I'm starting the third book immediately
Let me say that when I started this series, I didn't know it was a series. When I finished the first book, I was left rather bummed that I had to read two more books to figure it all out. Not to mention, paying what I feel like was too expensive for what I got.
After the dazzling wonder of Ireland described in the first book, I was rather let down by the second book. There were no lengthy descriptions that drew me in or invited me like the first book did. London seemed a huge disappointment in comparison. Though Beth was finding herself again, reconnecting with old friends, it all felt a bit forced for the story and rushed through to get to the point of the plot. This book begged me to skim and skip forward instead of letting me languish in pleasure like the first book did.
The relationship with Connor that paused at the end of book one seemed to take a nosedive in the second one and a new-old love interest, Wes, was created. It was delved into and described with such degree that I was rooting for Wes. Of course, Connor reappeared and the whole story was so immature that I didn't like him anymore. Then of course, another ending and have to start a new book. Oy. I'm worried about book 3.
P.S. There are some graphic/gratuitous sex scenes that I felt completely unnecessary to the plot.
I enjoyed the first one but it should have ended happily and the author should have moved on. Instead, we get a totally unnecessary parting and misunderstanding, but don't worry, there's another potential lover and more good friends in the wings and another damsel in distress sub-plot and some interminable sex and next we go to France for more of the same. And BTW it will end happily. I hope the author got some good tax deductions for travel to check little details such as the color of the coffee cups at Le Pain Quotidian - or does that not happen any more?
Too centred on wealth, success, image - beauty/handsome in characters. I found the characters superficial lacking in depth. I prefer real. I was tempted by the geographical landscapes and culture of - Ireland. London and Paris. I have been to these cities and In my opinion this book didn’t do these places or women justice. It’s all about money you need to read following books to know what happens. I wouldn’t waste my money.
I just loved the first book of this trilogy, and couldn't wait to start the second book. Sorry to say I couldn't even finish it - was a bit boring and found no real "zeal" to the writing. The writer is too descriptive in many areas, but not enough in others. Just kind of let it go and went on to another author. She should have combined the books to make it "flow" more easily.
Finished reading in one day - which is a good thing! This 2nd book in a trilogy moved the story along at a comfortable pace and with detail and subplots that made sense to the main character, Elizabeth's, saga. Can't wait to start book 3 to see what happens in Paris. Recommend.
This one was easier to speed read through as I didn't totally agree or like with the way the first book ended. I didn't like who Beth was becoming although she was trying to find her old self. The ending of this was much better, and I am on to book 3!!
I was looking forward to the sequel to The Irish Cottage, but this was quite a disappointment. Very formulaic and prosaic plot. And the sex scenes were too much like Barbara Delinsky. I'm no prude but come on, leave something to our imagination!
I really loved the way this storyline just continued on from book one, and now l am really wanting to read the third book. However I am very annoyed that the cost of the next book has escalated in price and find it very frustrating that writers do this, suck you in to the story then to continue reading you have to pay an exorbitant price to finish the story. I will continue on with this but will be making sure in the future l don't get trapped again. There are some amazing writers out there who don't want to rip you off. And that is how I see this story, as great as it is, it's a shame that the cost of the book's were not all the same price, l am sure more sales would have been made.
This is the second book in a trilogy about an American lawyer who renounces the law to "find herself" after realizing she has distanced herself from all her friends for a decade. In the process she travels first to Ireland, then England, and in the last one will go to France. I like the overall story a lot, but I found this volume rather short and feel a bit like the publisher is taking me for a ride to get additional revenue for the 3rd volume. I haven't decided if I will spring for the last volume or not. Each volume is more expensive than the last. Just as a caveat, if you don't like explicit sex scenes, this one may not be for you.
When Conner left for Africa, Elizabeth continued to follow her quest to regain herself. After touring Ireland some mire, she returned to England to reconnect with the Twenty year old self she had left behind. Despite the years, Elizabeth was able to reindeer herself into the friend pod she abandoned for the Law and even reignite her earlier flirtation. Sure that Conner had abandoned and forgotten their time together, she begins to explore other interests - England, photography and Wes. Where will this part f her journey take her? What us UT Maggie needs her to do? Will she ever hear from Conner?
I equally enjoyed The London Flat like I did The Irish Cottage. I started reading book 2 wanting her to get back with Connar. However, I feel for We'd charming British manners & didn't like Connar's "I want you back style." I fell in love with Beth's unbelievable luck & fantasy life in London. I like how the author weaved Wes & Connar together in escapades. I admire how for all of Miss Beth's intelligence she can be so easily gullible too. Fascinating style of writing about fascinating characters.
An amazing journey of life, death and finding yourself in the process. I finished reading book 1 this morning, after waking up at 1am unable to get back to sleep. I order book 2 and 3 within minutes after completing book 1. I just completed book 2 and am awestruck of the journey Beth takes to find who she really is. I will begin book 3 tomorrow morning, unless, of course, I wake up and unable to get back to sleep!
This book started out with a bang and kept me invested in Beth and her journey. The conflicts she faced in this novel were extremely well written. Once again, I found myself laughing with her and crying with her. I also found myself laughing at some of the situations Beth found herself in throughout the course of the novel. I loved how in this book her love and passion for photographer blossomed into something more. I enjoyed reading about how Beth rediscovered the bright, young, vivacious college student she’d been when she’d studied in London. Again, I also liked the author’s introspective writing style. This novel ended with a huge bombshell of a revelation. I can’t wait to see what happens in the last book of this series!
I'm not doing really a fan of romantic novels and this is truly a mattock novel however I do enjoy strong female leads which this book has. there are the normal stupid romantic mistakes that everybody makes in relationships but think that are easy to spot however there are certain Twisted where the outcome isn't exactly what you expected all in all a very good read.
So we continue with Beth's quest and as her story continues, she encounters betrayal and a new romance. Only she cannot get Connor Bannon out of her thoughts. She rekindles old friendships as she makes new ones all while searching for Mattheiu, Mags true love and father to their daughter. What Beth doesn't expect is her new neighbor to be a plot twist. And a cliffhanger that expresses "Holy Crap!" when the new neighbor reveals to Beth some information.
Ireland, London, Paris..she's making up for lost time!
On my, this drew me right in and captured me. Couldn't put the book down with the continued tales and ups and downs of Beth,(Lara, Elizabeth..) finding herself after her decade of being a cut throat divorce lawyer. (I could have used her at a couple points in my life). Love this series, but I don't have time to tarry, must move on to Paris with her in the next book.
Not as much fun as the first installment, but had some good moments. Follows Elizabeth to London, part of her journey to recover her old self and passion in life by reacquainting herself with friends from her early days. I'm invested enough to want to read the next volume to see how this character continues to grow, though at times I'm not sure I care for her. The author does a good job capturing the feeling of the setting. I loved getting to see parts of London through her eyes.
I am LOVING this series. A little slow in places (but I love action and of course it's meant build a good story. I'm impatient as they come 🤣) I read this book in 1 day. The ending was a great surprise and even with the foreshadowing I did not expect it.
Thank you for bringing my love of reading back to me. It's been so long since I've been this excited to keep reading book after book.
