Fluid Mechanics Through Problems

Rate this book
This is an outcome of author's over thirty years of teaching Fluid Mechanics to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The book is written with the purpose that, through this book, student should appreciate the strength and limitations of the theory, and also its potential for application in solving a variety of engineering problems of practical importance. It makes available to the students, appearing for diploma and undergraduate courses in Civil, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, a book which briefly introduces the necessary theory, followed by a set of descriptive/objective questions. In seventeen chapters, the book covers the broad areas of fluid properties, kinematics, dynamics, dimensional analysis, laminar flow, boundary layer theory, turbulent flow, forces on immersed bodies, open channel flow, compressible and unsteady flows, and pumps and turbines. About The R.J. Garde (Prof. Emeritus) obtained M.S. and Ph.D.from the Colorado State University, and D.Sc. from the University of Poona, Pune. He was Professor of Hydraulic Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee University, Roorkee where he was engaged in teaching and research in Fluid Mechanics and Fluvial Hydraulics, and in the related consultancy work. After retirement, he was Pro-Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University in New Delhi (1988-1991). Since then, he has been involved in research activities at C.W. & P.R.S. Khadakwasla, Pune under UGC and INSA Fellowships. He is Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian National Academy of Engineering, and the Institution of Engineers (India).
