The Black: Oceania

Rate this book
Something has survived…Weeks ago, the exploration rig Leaguer was destroyed shortly after sending an oil sample from the M2 trench for analysis. Officially, all hands were lost.

Unofficially, the “oil” was a deadly organism responsible for hundreds of deaths both on and offshore.

Sarah Celianne, a former HPD SWAT commander, found herself fighting for her life against creatures that defied biology, chemistry, and physics. Upon surviving the encounter, she’s recruited by a shadowy government entity to help secure the remaining M2 specimens. The effort failed.

Now, after escaping death again, she is dispatched to Papua/New Guinea to investigate reports of a lifeboat sighting, a lifeboat with the word “Leaguer” stenciled on its side.

The Oceania, the fifth installment of the Parsec Award-winning series The Black, is an action-packed suspense thriller serial set in the waters of Papua/New Guinea that pits a trained mercenary squad against a new M2 creature and new unknowns.

first of all how dare the author write such a good book and leave us another year for the sequel and what i presume is the series finale?! rude!;) this series is so amazing! it combines the best of the blob and the thing with out of control evolution and a touch of cyclonopedia's eldritch evil petroleum. i feel that theres a bit of evangelion and shin godzilla in this series its soo good. this book features a returning character from the third book. shes badass and has a new crew of badass mercenaries with her. all of them are fully fleshed out realized humans i did not detect any tropes and aside from off screen deaths theres nothing content warning worthy. one rape is mentioned, and happens off screen this author writes eldritch horror but nothing triggery or grotesque i'm soo thankful i found the series and cannot wait for the final volume once its ready!

The Black: Oceania by Paul E. Cooley

Say hello again to Sarah, who has survived one round with the black. But will she make it through fighting on the ocean?
Cooley has added yet another round in his series about a creature that resembles oil. Can hardly wait for the next book!
