This one was just alright for me. I liked the overall storyline. There was a solid mix of suspense and action, and that part felt thought out. It leans more serious in tone, with some romantic elements woven in, and there is character growth as they work through their individual issues.
That said, the execution didn’t quite land for me. There was repetition, especially in the characters’ internal thoughts. Some chapters revisited the same scenes from different perspectives, which can work well, but here, the dialogue was inconsistent between versions.
I think the book could have benefited if it were just a little tighter. Cutting around 150 pages would have made it a much stronger, more engaging read. At times, the pacing felt choppy. Scenes seemed to jump abruptly, making it hard to stay fully immersed.
The intimate scenes were a bit of a mixed point. They started off fairly mild, and at first I thought this might be a good recommendation for readers who prefer lighter, less graphic romance. As the story went on, though, the scenes became more detailed, which shifted that impression for me. It didn’t affect my rating, just something to keep in mind depending on your preferences.
In the end, I kept reading because I was invested in where the plot was going, but the execution left me frustrated more than once.
I received this as an ARC, and I appreciate the author for the opportunity to read and review.
This was an easy quick read for me. I was pleasantly surprised in the serious part of the book. It kept me on my toes and I felt Sally's fear and Cal's frustration in my bones. The romance was cute and not boring. The spice was just enough but could have been a bit more varied for me. All in all if you are looking for a nice escape from reality that is more than just romance, with some suspense ... I would def. recommend it!
