Running with Knives

Rate this book
To get to happily-ever-after, sometimes you have to start from scratch.

On the worst day of her life, 39-year-old Holly Murphy runs away from suburbia looking for a second chance at the life she once dreamed of, competing on a reality TV cooking show for one million dollars and a new start. But sometimes the life you walk away from doesn't let you go no matter how far you run.

Worlds away from her normal Midwestern life, she confronts what it means to have a second chance at happiness only to blow it. Surrounded by cutthroat competitors, alone, and adrift, she channels her passion for creating beautiful food into winning.

As she faces one disaster after another, she must fight for what she loves while facing the truth she discovers about herself, or risk losing it all.

A novel about the joy of cooking, selfless love, and a woman’s journey to find out who she's truly meant to be.

(the real me)
I live in the suburbs of Chicago, but dream of chucking it all in and traveling full time. Someday! I’m the proud mom to daughters born seventeen years apart. My youngest just entered 8th grade, and my oldest lives in Scotland, a magical place that has inspired me to write romance novels.

I love to cook, read, and spend time with my family. I love the ocean and lived on a sail boat for several years.

I got my start writing in Los Angeles when I was working for a movie production company. This year, after a lifetime working in offices of all types, I finally made the jump to full-time writer. Scary stuff, but exhilarating and freeing. I’ve never been happier. Thanks for being part of my dream!

I hesitated before reading this. What a mistake. Indeed the book is light and breezy but more importantly it is engaging and its a page turner. I was so disappointed when it ended. I wanted more. I hope Michele turns this into a few book series. I would love to see what happens next with Holly's family and her new business adventures! I found the characters to be fully dimensional. I really liked some of them, truly disliked a couple and found myself routing for Holly through the entire book. Also, the author obviously researched this book thoroughly as the raw emotion that came through her words about living with crisis and family history were spot on. This is definitely a must read. I am sorry I put it off.

Oh boy, this book had everything you want in a chick lit novel and more! And because I’m such a huge fan of foodie fiction, I even got a little of that element in here, and had a blast following Holly along as she tries to become a reality TV chef-sensation. With romance, betrayals, a hot Frenchman, and a plot twist, I was eagerly flipping the pages of this must-read with enthusiasm. You know you love a book when each time you have to stop reading it feels painful to have to put your Kindle down and walk away. Highly recommend!
