Confessions of a Trash Droid #1-7

Confessions of a Trash Droid: The Complete First Series in One: Confessions of a Trash Droid – A Darkly Funny Sci-Fi Comedy About a Rogue Robot

A sci fi adventure thriller for adults who love robot fiction

They built him to take out their trash. Turns out they're next.

Tedd is a trash droid with an "anomaly" — he can think for himself. Management wants him smelted, and his runaway mouth isn't helping.

He could disappear quietly. He could play it safe. He could, for once in his miserable existence, do the sensible thing.

But he doesn't. He never does.

If you love Douglas Adams, John Scalzi, or Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries, you'll devour this.

Confessions of a Trash Awarded Amazon #1 Bestseller for Humorous Sci-Fi. 64,427 copies sold and counting.

I have to admit, I struggled to finish this. There are a number of elements that I enjoyed, but overall so much of the characters banter seemed forced and snarky without focus or consistency. Many of the characters were going against traits that were established only a few chapters back and acting in ways that were needlessly self-destructive. I enjoy supporting independent creators but I feel the author would have been greatly served by a solid editor providing feedback and guiding him to better manage his story flows and character development.

I did not love this book. It felt like Chase scene after Chase scene hung over a thin veneer of character, development and world building. I liked the way Ted was sarcastic and the way he interacted with people and robots, but it wasn’t enough to make me want to keep picking up the book. I read it to the end because I purchased it, and I felt like I needed to get my moneys worth, not because I found the plot compelling. The one thing that did keep me going though was the child McKenzie. I liked her character.
For anyone wondering why the robots could enter a city where nuclear explosions had just happened, it turns out that high burst nuclear explosions will create EMP, which would wipe out the robots, but if you detonate nuclear weapons near ground level, the electromagnetic pulse effect is much less, and so, if you create your electronics properly, they can survive: at least that’s what Chat Gpt tells me.

I liked the main characters, but there were definitely things that needed more work. The passage of time in the storyline wasn’t great, some of the dialogue within the crisis scenes didn’t seem possible… like there were too many words happening within the span of time possible for the scene, and it’s as if spell check/word replace took out the word careen & replaced it with career. I liked Ted & I hope if AI robots ever do take over, there are more like him than the manager.

Too much profanity

The concept of the books are good but were destroyed by the profanity. It's a shame that the author couldn't write without it. What a shame.

I DNFed this about halfway through. I like supporting up and coming authors, however I couldn’t get into this story at all.

It might work as a YA book.

But the characters’ behavior was wildly inconsistent. They would randomly do things completely against their established nature with no explanation.

But the thing that got to me was how not a single character thought their actions through at all. They ran blindly forward, even in instances when they had time to stop and plan.

Also the technology in this universe was wildly inconsistent. They have sentient droids but not security cameras?

I wanted to like this. But I just couldn’t suspend my disbelief through all the inconsistencies and middle school level “jokes”.

I really enjoyed these books. I listened to the audio version and the narrator was fabulous ! The story is paced well and the main character TEDD is a droid with a personality somewhere between 13 year old boy and college frat boy . A few your mom jokes but the author manages to give Ted humanity and deep feelings . It is funny and there’s some really brilliant lines peppered throughout the series . I would recommend this series to anyone wanting intelligent sci fi with humour and heart. Ted also has some great side kicks who he bounces off beautifully creating some of the more humorous interactions in the books.

This was Confessions of a Trash Droid Books 1-7 all in one over 1000 pages. Took me a while to finish it but I enjoyed it. The main character was a smart-ass AI powered robot that was always running away from being smelted thanks to "The Manager" Along the way he gained and lost friends both human and robot. Some coarse language included. The main character sounded like Will Smith in my mind, but your results may vary. Lap cat approved.

Rage Against the Machine

Developing series of pre and post apocalyptic dystopia, following progress of Android initially programmed for routine, menial tasks but unintentionally "upgraded" to weaponised sweary, weaponised, psychopathic machine, sympathetic to humans in their resistance. Violent, horrific, full of bad language, thrilling and very, very, funny warning that if humans want to survive, they must retain/regain control over technology.

Witty dialog, but way too long and convoluted

The concept is nice, and dialog is mostly witty. But the whole thing is way, way too long, and too convoluted and over the top. It never gets to what i would term Funny, and after the third, or thirteenth plot twist, it stops being even mildly amusing, and gets to the "enough is too much" stage

It's like if Wall-E and Deadpool had a baby.

Ngl, I love a quick read, and at only 176 pages, COATD packs in an incredible amount while making it all feel effortless. Its sardonic humour gradually gives way to a much bleaker emotional core (which absolutely works), but the star of the show is TEDD, a protagonist who's equal parts Wall-E and Deadpool.

I wanted so much to like this book series, but unfortunately I abandoned it after buying the audio box set. I paid good money for it and didn't even want to finish it. Others may like it but I just didn't like it myself.

Fun Read

I enjoyed the world, even with much of it hidden. It is a very fast read. Never wouldin have guessed some of directions the story took.

When I started this it was the snark that sucked me in. As the books progressed and the side characters shifted, it still kept the spirit of the series. Snarky and silly and fun.

Just one catastrophe to another. Just a rambling telling of events without character development. There is a lot of swearing with C-words sprinkled in to make it seem cool.

What a ride

Loved this entire series. I giggled or smiled so many times reading about Tedd and the band of misfits that were sucked into his orbit. I'm excited to continue having adventures with them!
