When Morgan Kessler is attacked by the killer stalking the city with a sword, she expects to die. Instead, she becomes the one thing he can’t kill—and the only thing that silences the hunger consuming him.
Xavian Seraxen has spent thirteen years in exile, bound to a cursed weapon that is slowly driving him mad. When he realizes Morgan can quiet its endless whispers, he takes her captive, desperate to understand why she alone can bring him peace.
But the truth isn’t simple. Because Morgan isn’t just immune to the blade.
She’s connected to it.
And whatever she is may be far more dangerous than the monster hunting her.
Blood Bound is a dark romantasy enemies to lovers, captive romance, a cursed anti-hero, magical awakening, and slow-burn forbidden attraction. Perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash, City of Bones, and A Court of Thorns and Roses
Wow wow wow. I was simply spell bound! The prologue is written more like 3rd person, but it takes a dual point of view thereafter. 10% the way into reading Blood Bound I already knew that this book had my full attention. The writing is done with such depth; a deeply profound dive that pulls the reader in further by its descriptive writing on the visceral experiences of the characters. The depth is simply delicious. The fantasy concept within this book and it's magic I found to be intriguing. Now it feels like I may be under a curse in my impatience to wait for the second installment to this series! I am definitely a fan.
I greatly enjoyed the dual pov aspect of this book. It was well written and each character had a true voice.
I, personally, felt the world building potential was great, but the pacing felt a little off. The author focused on tension and small interactions, which served to keep me reading, but it left me at the end feeling like the book was longer than it was for not much meat.
I am intrigued to read book two.
If you like a good slow burn, tension filled romantasy starter, this is a great read.
I’m a sucker for a good dark romantasy and this one did not disappoint!! I am typically pretty neutral on enemies to lovers, but this one is one that I loved. Forbidden romances have my heart in a chokehold. I don’t know why I love the feeling of sneaking around with someone they can’t have, ha ha!! Morgan is written in such as bad a$$ way. I love her character and I love how Xavier’s character unfolds. They aren’t meant to be together, yet they find their way to one another. The feelings I experienced reading this book were great! I’m so glad there are more books coming because I can’t get enough of it! This book was absolutely fantastic!
This book was so good. I could not put it down. The descriptive writing made it so easy to visualize what I was reading and every page had me trying to guess what was going to happen. I would give it 10 stars if I could. 100% would recommend this book
A slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers story I didn’t see coming. Dark, gruesome, and completely addictive in the best way. The world-building pulls you into a magical realm the heroine never knew existed—yet she’s tied to it in ways that feel deeper with every page. I’m already hooked and can’t wait to see where this journey goes next.
I received this book as an ARC. All opinions are my own.
Blood Bound is the first book in the Soulforged Trilogy. It is a dark Romantasy novel that follows the story of Morgan and Xavian. The story splits between two worlds; one modern, where we see Morgan living her life, and one steeped in mystery & intrigue as we learn about Xavian.
Through forced captivity, Morgan embarks on a journey to discover not only who Xavian is, and why she feels such a magnetic pull to him, but who she is, and why she is so intrigued about the world he comes from.
We learn that Xavian has been exiled from his world, Velrith, by his sister, Nyra. Upon returning to Velrith, Xavian reveals how he became exiled as he shares the true extent of Nyras' power.
Xavians' thirst for blood turns into something much deeper, more powerful than an ancient curse. Love. The kind that waits centuries for their other half. The one who can quiet your soul. The one who is your safety from all the harm in the world. The one who is your destiny.
"He wasn't trying to hurt me; he was holding on for survival, like I was the only thing keeping him from being swept away."
Blood Bound by Jane Parker is a slow burn dark romance, enemies to lovers narrative presented in a dual POV format. Initially, I found it somewhat challenging to become fully immersed in the story. The author's world building is remarkably detailed, although I felt that it was occasionally overly descriptive. However, I acknowledge that some readers may appreciate this level of detail. Regarding the romantic aspect, I believe it will be further developed in the next installment, as the foundation is laid but has yet to fully materialize. I particularly enjoyed Morgan's sarcastic exchanges with Xavian and her burgeoning magical abilities. The cliffhanger ending has piqued my interest, and I look forward to seeing how the story unfolds. I have rated this book 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
For me this dark romantasy started somewhat slow, but I realize the author was setting the mood through her world building and character development and it was worth it. Definitely an enemies-to-lovers, slow burn, with a very different magic system and worlds. The main characters, Xavian and Morgan, are interesting and we are still learning about them in more depth. The story is developing in a way that leaves me wanting to see where it is going, without being able to predict it, as this world is a very different one and the author has done a good job at leaving the reader wanting more. I am truly looking forward to the other books in this series.
Book 1 of The Soulforged Trilogy. And a wonderful start it is! Look forward to more from this world.
'Blood Bound is a dark romantasy featuring: enemies to lovers, captive romance, a cursed anti-hero, magical awakening, and slow-burn forbidden attraction.'
The characters were very complex and complicated and absolutely perfect together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was excellent and impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.
Grab a copy, kick back and enjoy!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Very detailed world building and character development. Scenes that are so detailed that you can visualize everything. The flip side is that it makes for a slow moving plot. But the last 100 pages makes it worth sticking it out. And the cliffhanger leaves you ready for the next book. The captive/captor trope definitely sets up the enemies to maybe lovers. A steamy dream sequence eludes to the possibility. We’ll have to wait and see.
Blood Bound, took me a hot minute to get into this story. It did start of a little confusing and a bit here one minute and somewhere else the next, the plot all came together . Im interested to see what happens after that cliff hanger!!! There wasnt much romance so definitely going to be a slow burn, i like the FMC sarcasm towards the MMC. I feel like the Dual pov could of been placed a bit better it felt to close with them repeating some things. Definitely worth a read was an easy read 😊
Great storyline. The chemistry between Morgan and Xavian is electric. It was nice to see their relationship start to evolve. I do wish it delved a little more intokool the history of the blade and why it possessed who it chose so completely. I can't wait to read book 2 to see what happens next.
A journey unlike others with an FMC full of fire and grit. Morgan is everything I want to be, unyielding, curious, brave, and kind in the face of adversity.
Xavian, my sweet, protective Xavian. I love that he is no where near perfect and will do the hard messy thing, unapologetically. I want to wrap him up and take care of him myself.
This is a good book that keeps you connected. The FMC is strong. The MMC is morally dark to grey. The magic system is different and the world building is decent. There is enemies to almost lovers and slow burn. It ends on a cliffhanger that has me curious about book 2. I feel like there was a decent amount of book for not a lot of meat, so to say but I think that is more a buildup for book 2.
This was a great dark romantasy- there was ACTUAL enemies to lovers, not just annoyance to lovers riddled with purposeful miscommunication like many authors rely on. It was a fantastic urban romantasy.
If I could give this book more stars, I absolutely would! It was an amazing slow burn that kept my attention from beginning to end, I love the world building was great, and the characters had so much depth. The ending left me wanting so much more! Can’t wait for the next book!!
I started this book with a mild interest and ended invested in the world and characters!! At first I wasn’t really interested and didn’t read it very fast but by the time I got maybe 1/3 of the way through I devoured it!!! I was so disappointed when it ended. Can’t wait for the second one!
Really enjoyed the book. I liked the story between Morgan and Xavian. I liked the magic and story building. I only gave it a 4 because i had a little trouble getting into the book at first. But now i can not wait for next book
I have so many questions. I went into this blind and I am glad it did. I spent the whole book asking questions out loud. Artfully written. Can’t wait for book two!
Great world building and entry into this trilogy. It snagged your attention from the first page and left me wanting more. I can't wait to see how the characters continue to develop.
The story follows a young, fiercely independent woman and a man bound by darkness and secrets. Nothing is as it seems; with mystery, death, destruction and a slow build enemies to… something?
It starts off strong, dwindles a little in the middle (which is why it's 3.75) but ends on a huge a cliff hanger, which has me eagerly awaiting the next book!
✨ Strong but confused FMC ✨ MMC who starts off more morally black than grey ✨ World building ✨ No spice but a slow build of awakening and plenty of tension ✨ Forced proximity, blackouts and loss of…
There is extensive world building that takes up the majority of the book. There was great chemistry between Xavian and Morgan Just as it starts to get good and into the actual story, it ends, leaving you wanting more. I hope the next book provides more history on the sword and the entities and need for life it requires.
