138 Main Street
AN ADDRESS TO DIE FOR…
There’s a killer on the loose. And he’s targeting one specific address—138 Main Street. The problem? There are over 7,000 Main Streets in the USA. And the police and FBI have no clue which one will be next.
For FBI Special Agent Ben Walker and his rookie colleague, Officer Zoe Hill, the pressure to solve the case is unimaginable. There aren’t enough police officers to cover every house, and vigilante residents are attacking anyone who rings their doorbell. Main Street might be one of America’s most popular addresses, but for those living at number 138, it comes down to fight or flight.
Then a manuscript is sent to the New York Times, purporting to be the manifesto of the “Main Street Killer” and demanding radical social change. As the effect of the terror campaign takes hold across the nation, Walker and Hill find themselves in a race against time to stop the killer. But with their target always several steps ahead, and almost 3,800,000 square miles of ground to cover, they’ll have to find him first…

A killer who only targets one specific address? Color me intrigued.
When it comes to thrillers, the premise matters a great deal. A good one serves as a natural jumping off point, one that gives the story room to breathe, room to grow, and ultimately, room to wrap up. The premise should encompass all the possibilities that follows, as well as allow for a progression of the narrative arc that eventually leads to a satisfying conclusion. And 138 Main very much took advantage of its terrific premise.
The format was in the vein of a police procedural, so we follow seasoned FBI agent Ben Walker and rookie Zoe Hill as they scramble to get one step ahead of the killer. Zoe, in particular, was a clever and likable main character, so her investigation made for a compelling read. As bad stuff starts to happen and we check in with victims and would-be victims living at the eponymous address, the sense of urgency and pressure really amps up.
From cover to cover, this was so much fun—it's fast paced, high stakes, lots of action, with the sort of interesting developments that kept me glued to my seat. When the buildup is so good, there's always a question about whether the story can deliver in the end, and it did so here, wrapping everything up neatly and with much satisfaction.
You can always hook me in with an intriguing premise, and they don't come any more enticing than this. If you're in the market for a book to get your adrenaline going, it's worth checking this one out. It's been coming in a bit under the radar, but it's exactly what I would want for a cinematic, high-octane thriller.

138 Main by Gavin Bell
Narration by Timothy Andrés Pabon
Imagine that you live at a street address that can be found over 7000 places in the United States. The address is 138 Main and a killer is targeting those addresses. Sure, the odds of the killer hitting YOUR address are slim but the mental and emotional stress of wondering if you might be one of the unlucky ones is great.
This is the crisis that FBI Special Agent Ben Walker faces. He's the lead on this case, and as he gathers his team, he recruits smart thinking Officer Zoe Hill, for this team. She notices the little things, the little things that can be the most important clues in a case such as this one. Walker isn't afraid to rely on thoughts from Hill, he has a killer(s) to catch and he's going to use the best brains he can find to help him stop this killer.
The “Main Street Killer” has written a manifesto demanding radical social change and this wacko attracts other crazies, urging on the Main Street Killer to slaughter as many people as possible in order to bring about whatever changes they have in their heads that need changing. I wonder how happy they would be about slaughtering others if the targets were their own families.
The "Main Street Killer" has demands, and for all the hero worship of this killer, in the end, selfish greed just might be the driving force. Who knows, a lunatic is a lunatic, and watching law enforcement try to figure out where in the 3,800,000 square miles of ground the next target might be feels like an exercise in frustration that will leave sleepless nights for the rest of their lives, if they live to solve this case.
Tension filled from the very beginning, these are the people I'd want trying to find a killer. I've listened to Timothy Andrés Pabon narrate other books and had made note of his voice and abilities and he does another great job here. I'm so very glad that I live at a very, very weird address, not one to be found all over the US, although I know murderous crazies can think of a zillion other reasons to kill because they want to kill. I buddy read this one with Jayme so see how she feels about addresses being targeted by a serial killer.

BREAKING NEWS:
THE FBI IS ADVISING RESIDENTS WITH A HOME ADDRESS OF 138 MAIN STREET TO BE CAUTIOUS AS THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL KILLINGS AT THIS STREET ADDRESS. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THESE MURDERS ARE PREMEDITATED AND IT IS UNKNOWN IF ADDITIONAL ATTACKS ARE PLANNED
The National Crime Information Center’s database (NCIC) has an algorithm which linked together four separate investigations which were taking place at 138 MAIN even though they occurred across several jurisdictions. It doesn’t wait for a person to go looking- it flags patterns automatically.
And once it did, an FBI task force was formed-to be led by Special Agent Ben Walker. He has assembled the team, including an analyst named Brodie, and an Officer who investigated at one of the killings, Officer Zoe Hill, to name a few…but they will also need the cooperation of many on the ground. Zoe was the only Officer from investigating the original cases who noticed what appeared to be a “Map Pin” 📍 written from the blood of her Victim.
The Problem? Obvious! With over 7500 different “138 Main Street” addresses in the USA-how do they figure out which one will be targeted next?
Was a specific person targeted, and the others killed just to throw Investigators off?!
That’s one theory until a Manifesto demanding radical social change is sent to the NY TIMES from the “Main Street Killer”. Its words are cryptic but it may hold the clues the FBI needs.
It’s a RACE AGAINST TIME as we meet and worry about potential VICTIMS as the FBI attempts to track down those responsible and what makes it so terrifying is that SADLY, it feels completely PLAUSIBLE in today’s World.
4.5 stars! ⭐️
I was riveted!

4.5 stars.
Gavin Bell's 138 Main breathes fresh life into the serial killer sub-genre by weaponizing a uniquely American geographical quirk.
Rather than hunting in a specific city, the antagonist(s) strikes victims across the United States who share one terrifying commonality: they live at number 138 Main Street.
By scaling a domestic thriller across thousands of identical addresses, Bell creates a massive nationwide investigation that feels both claustrophobic and infinite.
The novel avoids generic chase clichés by shifting focus to the psychological toll on everyday citizens waiting to see if their town is next.
At the center of the search is a stellar partnership between FBI Agent Ben Walker and intuitive police rookie Zoe Hill.
Gavin Bell demonstrates total mastery over pacing. It is a slick, cinematic, and deeply unsettling police procedural that turns a vast continent into a tight, inescapable locked-room mystery.
Highly recommend.

Really good book. Reads a bit like a documentary, but that isn't a bad thing ,given the subject matter. It would make a fantastic movie. Gavin Bell did very well on his own with this one..haha! Highly recommend this. 👍

When I read the synopsis for this book I knew I needed to read it., a killer who targets the residents of 138 Main Street. The biggest FBI investigation in America to try to stop this ruthless serial killer. How can you not want to read this?
There are over 7000 138 Main Streets in the USA, how on earth are they going to do this? A rookie cop and a seasoned special agent have their work cut out for them, no pressure right. I loved how Ben and Zoe teamed up, trusting each other’s instincts to work the case.
This is a fast paced, action packed book that had me turning the pages as quickly as I could. I would love to see more books with these characters. I loved the over enthusiastic analyst, Broadie, who was keen on the statistics and facts.
Thanks so much to Gallery Books for my early copy of this book to read on NetGalley and Likely Suspects in the UK who sent me a hardcover copy.

A clever, clever book! I am unfamiliar with the author but then noticed that this is the first book that he wrote using his real name. I will surely be reading his next one
The plot is intriguing as people are being murdered all over the country and all reside at 138 Main Street. The FBI gets involved and discovers that there are over 7,000 138 Main Streets in the United States. Now what is the connection and why is this happening. A young woman who is serving on the police force in one of the affected towns is temporarily assigned to the FBI due to her experience and investigative talents..The book follows her and other members of the team as they begin an almost impossible task of unraveling this horror.
The plot is so involved and full of spoilers, that a long review is almost impossible or at least for me. There are surprises at every turn of the page and if the reader can figure out the denouemont it will be a miracle. It lost one star from me due to a scene near the end of the story which was not realistic. But with that said, it is a must read by a very talented author. I would highly recommend it.

‘An address to die for…‘ After a series of murders with a common thread, Special Agent Ben Walker teams up with a rookie police officer, Zoe Hill and Matt Brodie, an IT analyst. They begin to investigate a serial killer who is targeting people throughout the US who happen to live at 138 Main St. It becomes a number one priority to figure out where they will strike next.
If I were any of these people at living at these addresses, I would leave ASAP! No-brainer. And yet, it is more complicated than it would seem. And how will they protect the remaining occupants?
[Rating • 4/5 ⭐️]
I thought this was a clever and interesting story with characters I could root for. I especially enjoyed the pacing and short chapters, which kept me turning the pages.
And talk about an intense conclusion! Wow. I’d love to see Zoe and Agent Walker and Brodie continue on in a series.
CA | Contains some strong language, here and there primarily through the last half of the book. Violence and murder, to be aware of, but it’s not overly graphic.

138 Main Street follows FBI Special Agent Ben Walker and rookie Officer Zoe Hill on a case unlike any they’ve seen before. There is a killer on the loose. He has committed four murders in four weeks, with only one thing in common: the victims’ address. But there are over 7,000 Main Streets in the USA. And they have no clue which one will be next. With their target always several steps ahead, and every town in the country at imminent risk, the pressure is on Ben and Zoe to find him…
138 Main Street delivers chilling, unpredictable suspense from start to finish, and I was completely gripped throughout. Every chapter intensified the tension, leaving me constantly on edge and desperate to know what would happen next.
The concept itself is unique, but what elevated this book was how well-written and thrilling it was to read. The short chapters and multiple perspectives created an addictive momentum that made it almost impossible to put down, and I flew through it. Gavin Bell balances a relentless pace with intricate plotting perfectly, delivering twists that constantly exceeded my expectations. I genuinely never saw the biggest twist coming, which made the ending even more satisfying.
Although this is a very plot-driven story, the character work was exceptional. I was particularly invested in Zoe from the very beginning, but the entire team was compelling enough that I would happily follow them again if this were to become a series.
Cleverly plotted, frightening, tense, and genuinely exhilarating to read, 138 Main Street is the kind of thriller that reminds you why the genre is so addictive in the first place.
Thank you so much to Likely Suspects and Gavin Bell for sending me this copy to read and review. My opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this one and was immediately hooked with the premise. A new author for me and I loved the writing style and short chapters, I am excited to see what more this author has in store. If you like a fast paced thriller give this one a read.

This wasn’t nearly as good as it sounded. It was just kind of boring and uninteresting. I don’t inderstand how Zoe made the connection to who the bad guy was, there was a big jump there I didn’t get. Despite the 4 star Goodreads rating, I do not recommend.

138 MAIN by Gavin Bell
Published: June 2026 by Scout Press
Graded: B+
Be prepared to be immersed for several sittings for this propulsive high stakes crime thriller. This is the first time this marvelous Scottish writer is being published under his own name. He has written since 2014 under several pseudonyms. With this catchy premise, a serial killer is targeting residents at 138 Main Street, all without apparent connections or motives. The FBI faces an almost impossible task to frantically investigate this national crisis with over 7,000 Main Streets across America. Who will be the next victim? The killer is always at his next kill site before any clue suggests his victim. This clever premise will breed escalating suspense and terror nationwide as the body count rises. FBI Special Agent Ben Walker and his protege, rookie officer Zoe Hill are tasked with leading the investigation to uncover clues and the potential next victim. Their team races across America as the puzzle pieces inexorably fall into place. National terror crescendoes after the killer’s manifesto is published demanding radical social change. The media relentlessly stokes fear and distrust daily.
Bell proves to be a masterful storyteller with his meticulous fast pacing, told through short chapters and multiple points of view and frequent cliff hangers. He successfully explores themes of fear, and mass hysteria, compounded by media influences. This twisty thriller will appeal to fans of Michael Connelly, and aficionados of FBI procedurals and television crime thrillers. I think I’ve found another excellent writer to add to my list of must reads.

4 stars ⭐️
The blurb of the book is so unique, I was getting tired of the same old domestic thrillers but this one was insane. The concept was unique and it was executed perfectly. This book is electrifying and addictive, the chase game had my heart beating loud. I genuinely couldn't put it down once things started picking up.
I loved reading the perfectly spaced perspectives of different characters and it was refreshing to read the book through a reliable narrator who worked in the force. Zoe is a serious version of Jake Peralta and I was so in love, She's obsessed with the job and would risk anything to get the bad guys behind bars. Brodie is so Amy coded but he's the funny one, It was so cute to watch their dynamics in between all the seriousness of the case. Their little moments of humour made the intensity of the investigation so much more enjoyable.
The pacing was perfect, I didn't find any part of it boring. The investigation kept moving without feeling rushed, and there was always something happening that made me want to know what was going to happen next. The action sequences and the chasing were written so realistically. The motive of the serial killer could have been a bit more nuanced though, The second last chapter just felt abrupt and didn't feel much like closure.
But, Zoe getting a job in the FBI was so realistic because that woman is so damn smart.
Walker was like this cool uncle you'd always look forward to meet because you'd have good conversations. I really liked the dynamic he brought into the group, especially because he had that experienced, calm presence without taking away from the other characters.
Although it was a thriller with an intricately plotted, ultra-high-stakes novel, It had so much character psychology to get into. I discovered the jaw-dropping plot twist miles away but it didn't matter much to me because I read it with the same rush. Even when I figured things out, I was still invested in watching everything unfold.
I am looking forward to more such books, back in my thriller era I feel.

This was fun

138 MAIN is a plot-driven, fast-paced police procedural. I enjoyed it, though I would have liked a stronger connection to the characters. But that’s a me thing.
The premise is wild and unnerving. I could see something like this happening, with various police districts and the FBI floundering as they attempted to make sense of it while also navigating interagency politics.
All the murders are off page. We see the crime scenes from the perspectives of law enforcement afterward. There isn’t much graphic content.
I figured out the whodunit part early on, but getting there was entertaining.
I alternated between reading with my eyes and listening to the audiobook. Timothy Andrés Pabon did a great job with the narration. But I want to add a cautionary note for readers considering the audiobook. This story cycles through a lot of characters, with a variety of constantly-shifting POVs. If maintaining focus and/or keeping a large cast of characters straight in your mind is an issue for you, I definitely recommend reading this one with your eyes.

What a ride!
A serial killer is targeting homes located at 138 Main across America. There are thousands of possible targets. The FBI selects one local law enforcement to join their task force. Zoe Hill leaves her small town in Illinois to work with the FBI based out of New York City. A page turner!
Some foul language, particularly in the final 50 pages.

Review of advance copy received from NetGalley
It can’t be easy writing a tense thriller that grips the reader throughout and has them turning the pages faster than they ever thought possible, but Gavin Bell has done just that.
138 Main Street is a real cracker. Fast, suspenseful, with great characters and a plot that really hooked me in, this is a belter of a read.
Ben Walker is the FBI Agent tasked with finding and stopping the elusive killer who is targeting innocent victims across America. The FBI has no idea, where the killer will strike next, only that their address will be 138 Main Street. With so many Main Streets across the USA, protecting the next victims is nigh on impossible.
Zoe Hill is a cop and a fairly rookie one, at that. One of the victims lived in her precinct and it was Zoe who noticed the murderer’s calling card in the midst of the blood and turmoil of the crime scene.
Now she’s seconded to the task force tracking down this killer, working with Ben Walker and FBI analyst, Brodie.
I enjoyed Zoe’s character. She’s independently minded, an outsider at the Bureau, and she knows she doesn’t really fit in. Her mother wants to keep her wrapped in cotton wool after her father died on the job. But she’s ready to put her life on the line to solve this case.
Gavin Bell has written a fast paced thriller with a killer plot. I loved the way the task force tries to anticipate where the killer/s will strike next and how to both identify the targets and put in place measures to trap the killer/s.
This killer is clever. Always one step ahead, leaving no trace fibres or other clues. All the FBI has to go on is that one address. Much like a long, exciting episode of Criminal Minds, this is a thriller that grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go.
Verdict: 138 Main Street is a real cracker of a thriller. Whip smart, writing as taut as razor wire, this is the kind of book that you devour in in a single sitting. I absolutely loved it.

4.25 stars. What an interesting + clever premise—a killer targeting people who all have one very specific thing in common: their address is 138 Main Street, Anytown, USA. 🔪🏠 What are the odds.. and more importantly, WHY? Definitely kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out how it all connected (and VERY relieved that wasn’t my address 😂). Time really flew listening to this fun, fast-paced thriller by the pool. 🎧☀️

There’s been a murder! But for Special Agent Ben Walker, that’s pretty much an everyday thing. When a second murder takes place, it doesn’t look as though they’re linked at first. But as the details are processed, a surprising similarity emerges. The address was 138 Main Street. Both murders happened in different states, but shared the same street name and identical house number. The only problem is, there are thousands upon thousands of Main Streets in the country. How does Walker know which residence will be targeted next? It’s an impossible feat. With the help of local cop Zoe Hill, it’s down to Walker and his team to find the smallest needle in the largest haystack. Which state will be next? Will a killer come knocking on your door…?
138 Main Street needs to be made into a TV series or a movie. It would work so well on the screen with its high-tension, non-stop action. I really enjoyed the concept of this one. A seemingly random killer selecting their victims according to their home address. Lovely stuff. And I was also looking forward to it because of the author. Gavin Bell has been writing for a while now, but under several different names (this is the first under Gavin Bell). I’ve been meaning to pick his books up for YEARS. Literally years. There was no way on earth I could let this one pass me by though.
I enjoyed the characters. I was left asking myself if this could be the start of a new series featuring Walker and Hill as returning characters. I had a quick Google but couldn’t find anything to suggest they would be, which would be a shame. I feel the author has the beginnings of something rather promising with this duo. I warmed to both Walker and Hill. I enjoyed how underdog Hill rises through the ranks, leaving her male colleagues in the dust. The investigation really is a needle in a haystack, and I loved how wonderfully impossible that feels to the characters at times. How do you start with something like this? Where do you start? Yet despite the large canvas the killer has to work with, the book also felt a little claustrophobic. Some of the residents aren’t able to leave their homes due to lack of finances, poor health or just plain stubbornness. These people were trapped and, potentially, a sitting duck for a cold-hearted killer. Could their luck have finally run out?
Would I recommend this book? I would, yes. 138 Main Street (or 138 Main in the US) is a tension-laden, full-on thrill-ride of a novel. Alongside the investigators, we get to see inside the heads and lives of some of the 138 residents. The apprehension, the fear that they could be next. It all adds beautifully to the overall intensity of the novel. The characters are well written and, as I said before, I hope they make a return in the future with an equally complex and baffling case. I was able to guess one aspect, but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the novel overall. I think the author has done an excellent job of keeping the reader involved in the story with the fast-paced narrative. All in all, I very much enjoyed 138 Main Street and look forward to more from Bell in the future. Gripping, highly readable and thrilling throughout. The type of serial killer thriller I need more of. Recommended.

138 Main x Gavin Bell
Publisher: Gallery/Scout Press
Do I Recommend?: Yes! Especially for fans of fast-paced, high-concept serial killer thrillers. Also would be great for fans of Charlie Donlea lovers!
Format: Physical book
📄 Page #: 416
⭐ Star Rating: 4.5
🔪 AT Intensity Rating: 2.5
Quick Plot Points:
• A killer targeting people who live at 138 Main Street
• An FBI agent and rookie officer duo
• Nationwide panic and vigilante chaos
• A manifesto demanding radical social change
• Religious cult elements and a twisty final act
One-Sentence Take:
A fast-paced, unique thriller with great action, memorable characters, and a twist that ultimately got me.
Review:
I loved this! The concept was so unique, and the pacing made it almost impossible to put down. The action scenes were so good, but the characters are what made the story especially memorable. Zoe, Brodie, and Walker all felt distinct, and I would absolutely read more books featuring them.
The twist got me, although the motivation behind it felt a little…meh…once everything was revealed. I liked the religious cult elements. The story didn’t go too deep into them, and I would have been okay with learning more about it considering the twist, but it gave me just enough to stay intrigued.
Fast, fun, and genuinely unputdownable!

The premise of this book is really fun, and it's what made me so excited to read it. What could possibly lead someone to kill people purely because of their address? Surely there can't be a link between them other than the street they live on.
I found it really interesting that the author is actually British, so I wondered why he decided to set the book in America. But as one of the characters questions: What would our alternative to Main Street be? High Street? I doubt we have many of those. Maybe we could have a pub version! I'm sure there are hundreds of The King's Head.
The characters are really likeable, and I like how they brought them together to create a task force. I would definitely be interested in seeing them work together again in the future.
Overall, a fun concept, well developed characters, and a mystery that takes you on a nationwide cat and mouse chase.
