Weisse Wölfe: Eine grafische Reportage über rechten Terror
Nazi-Banden in ganz Europa eint eine brutale Ideologie. Die Ideologie der Rassenüberheblichkeit, des Vernichtungswillens, der Mordlust. Unter immer neuen Namen treten sie auf, nennen sich Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund (NSU), Blood And Honour, Combat 18 oder Hammerskins. Viele bleiben unentdeckt und agieren auch heute noch im verborgenen, verüben Anschläge auf Moscheen, freiheitsliebende Menschen und Andersdenkende. Der Ursprung der Terrorbanden ist nahezu immer gleich. Sie stützen sich auf die "Turner-Tagebücher" und die Idee der Zellengestützten Nazi-Gewalt - egal ob es um die Schriften des Norwegischen Massenmörders Anders Behring Breiviks geht, oder um die ideologischen Versatzstücke des NSU. Und weil es eine Idee ist, die das Fundament des grenzüberschreitenden rechtsradikalen Terrorismus bildet, ist es diese Idee, die aufgeklärt werden muss. Sie gilt es zu erkennen und zu bekämpfen. In dieser grafischen Reportage spüren David Schraven (Text) und Jan Feindt (Zeichnungen) einer Bande von Nazi-Terroristen aus dem Ruhrgebiet nach und decken ihre internationalen Verflechtungen auf. Sie zeigen, wie die Ideen der "Turner-Tagebücher" die Entwicklung der rechtsextremen Szene beeinflussen. In einem Nachwort beschreibt Thomas Kuban (Autor von "Blut muss fließen. Undercover unter Nazis." Campus-Verlag) den Einfluss der Nazi-Musik auf die Radikalisierung rechter Kids.

A few days ago, eight men were arrested on suspicion of the creation of a Neo-Nazi terrorist group who called themselves “Chemnitz Revolution” (Chemnitz being a city in Saxony, East Germany). According to the public prosecutor’s office, those men are supposed to be among the leading heads of the right-wing extremist scene in Saxony. A high-ranking investigator says that the evaluation of chats provided insights into the group’s way of thinking. Apparently a larger “action” was planned for today, 3 October 2018 (Germany’s national holiday, commemorating its reunification in 1990). The Chemnitz group wanted to bring about a change of system and trigger a civil war. The chats sound like fanatical determination paired with megalomania and loudmouthed.
The members of the “Chemnitz Revolution” were probably also inspired by the crimes of the “NSU” (National Socialist Underground), another terrorist group that committed a total of ten murders of people of foreign heritage and one police officer in Germany between 2000 and 2007 and whose last member, Beate Zschäpe, was sentenced to life in prison in July 2018 after a long trial (the biggest one in postwar German history).
One of the NSU murders occurred on 4 April 2006 in Dortmund (the city where I work). The kiosk owner Mehmet Kubaşık, a German retailer of Turkish origin and Kurdish descent, was shot dead in his shop. The crime was the trigger for this graphic novel by journalist David Schraven (text) and Jan Feindt (illustrations).
In alternating chapters, two stories are told: That of a journalist who has a striking resemblance with the author, researching the right-wing scene in Dortmund, and that of Albert S., a punk from Dortmund, who gets involved with said scene and finally becomes a co-founder of a militant cell. The chapters are interrupted by handwritten pages of a fictional(?) diary, which later turns out to be ——.
The drawings are black and white with hard contrast, the text reduced to a minimum. Some panels obviously consist of heavily edited photos together with drawings. Some of these photos are additionally altered by using half-tone patterns. The whole thing seems very gloomy to me. I’m not an expert on the art of graphic novels, but I know a little about photo editing and I think one could, and should, have made it better and gotten more details out of it. Altogether there is too little text for me, which can probably be summarized on only a few pages. You can make up a lot from the drawings, but it remains a feeling of dissatisfaction.
At the end of the book there is a short epilogue in which the context and history of the right-wing scene in Germany, but also worldwide, is outlined. Here you learn a little about the worldwide network of the “Blood And Honour” movement, about “Combat 18”, about the important role of Nazi rock music and the Turner diaries ; references to Timothy McVeigh and Anders Breivik are made (Charlottesville finds no mention as this event happened after publication). If there is a swamp that needs to be drained, it’s this one.
All in all a book about a frighteningly topical issue, which unfortunately remains incomplete and does not offer a bibliography for further reading.

Se seguite le mie recensioni sapete che sono una grande fan delle pubblicazioni di Beccogiallo, specialmente le graphic novels di cronaca e storia recente. Precedentemente mi sono emozionata, commossa, indignata, stupita, ma mai spaventata. Con questo libro sono riusciti anche a farmi paura. È proprio vero che a volte un'immagine vale 1000 parole, e sfogliare questi disegni ha avuto un'impatto maggiore che leggere giornali o wikipedia.
Il protagonista, fittizio, è un ragazzo arrabbiato che diventa prima skinhead, poi neonazista e terrorista attivo, e infine uno stanco spacciatore arrestato e condannato. I gruppi terroristici, dal Blood & Honour a C18, sono reali, così come le band di rock nazista.
Ora mi chiedo: a che punto siamo siamo rimasti? Le note finali si fermano al 2004. Come è cambiata, se è cambiata, Dortmund? E come procedono i rami italiani dell'organizzazione?

Die Art der Darstellung und Erzählweise fügt eine Ebene hinzu, eine abstrakte unwohle Nähe, die sich durch die Erzählung und bildhafte Entwicklung in meinem Kopf ungewollt und beiwohnend entspinnt. Nicht der gewohnte Ablauf einer Doku, die sich mit Abstand auf dem Bildschirm abspielt, sondern die interpretierende und interpolierende Wirkung der grafischen Geschichte verstärken den Sog hinein in die Grausamkeit und Ambivalenz der Reportage. Das Buch konnte mir in der Kürze sehr gut die Zusammenhänge rechtsterroristischer Netzwerke und Zusammenhänge verdeutlichen. Sehr empfehlenswert.

Starker Zeichenstil und eine starke Geschichte
... wobei das was in dieser Graphischen Reportage erzählt wird, nicht einfach irgend eine Geschichte ist sondern die Wahrheit - das Tatsächlich geschehende - wiederspiegelt. Und genau das macht diese Geschichte so crass und erschreckend.
Sicherlich ist der Zeichenstil nicht jedermanns Geschmack, aber ein weicherer Zeichenstil wäre eine eindeutige Schwäche gewesen.
Schwanz, Weiß und keine Grauschattierungen ist genau das was der Geschichte hilft sich einzuprägen.

Das Thema ist selbstverständlich erschreckend. Die auf dem rechten Auge blinden Behörden auch. Leider sind die Infos schwer zu lesen und die Zeichnungen zwar gut und subjektiv gefallend, aber auch etwas eintönig.

Es geht um...
Nazis in Deutschland. Anhaltspunkt für die Story ist der 2006 passierte Mord an einem türkischstämmigen Dortmunder. Der Journalistenerzähler fährt nach Dortmund, spricht mit Internen und anonymen Mittelmännern - und frauen um herauszufinden was hinter diesem, scheinbar so wahrlosen Akt der Gewalt steht.
Hauptsächlich wird aber die Geschichte von einem rechten Skinhead erzählt- wie er und seine Kumpels sich als rassistische Kampfzelle formatieren um einen Rassenkrieg anzuzetteln.
Durchsetzt ist die Handlung mit Tagebuchauszügen aus den 'Turner Tagebüchern'.
In sehr nicem Zeichenstil wird beschrieben wie der junge Mann nach der Schule von Türken verprügelt wird, und Rache schwört, ziellos durchs Leben wirrt und in der eigenen Radikalisierung das einzig sinnvolle im Leben sieht. Was ihm an seinem Leben gefällt und was ihn unglücklich macht.
Das liest sich...
Der Zeichenstil ist sehr schön, die Reihenfolge ist chronologisch- der anonyme Informant erzählt seine Geschichte, nicht in allen Einzelheiten, keine Details. Zwischendurch überlegt der Erzählerjournalist wie das sein kann, dass trotz der so eindeutigen Lage von öffentlicher Seite nichts unternommen wird.
Es ist eine sehr persönliche Geschichte und, meiner Meinung nach haben sich die Autoren für die bestmögliche Präsentationsform entschieden.
Fazit:
- tolle Zeichnungen
- nicht so spannendes Nachwort
- 15€- Gönnung! Absolut ok

Page after page after page through this journalistic graphic novel, I would look at an image and just say, "wow". The horror of it, the grief of it, the poignancy of the artwork, is all just kick-in-the-gut brutal and raw and powerful. This is a true story of a skinhead gang in Germany, told like a documentary in which the documentarian is a character in the story. It ends with maps of murderous Nazi activity around the world, and then an essay supplementing the book with some plain hard facts and further details. This is an important work.
I give it four stars instead of five for one stylistic issue I took with the book. I appreciated the choice to draw over manipulated photos. It gave the book an extra gravitas it deserved. However, there were a few pages where the drawing atop the photos didn't feel as though it existed in the same space as the background. One page in particular had a character in a headlock with a police officer, and the only part of the photo that was drawn was the head of the person in the headlock. The cop's head was still part of the manipulated photo, as were other characters in the image, and the rest of the body of the character with the drawn head. It gave the impression that it was a head floating above a separate, irrelevant image. I'm glad to say that I only noticed this in maybe a dozen pages out of nearly 200, but it's enough for me to hold back a perfect mark on an otherwise amazing book.
Oh, and I only speak a little German. This book was written in German. But I am highly literate in sequential art. It is a testament to the skill of the artist that I could still follow the story very clearly by the images alone.

Der Untertitel sagt eigentlich schon alles: »Eine grafische Reportage über rechten Terror«. Anhand einer Gruppe von Neonazis aus dem deutschen Ruhrgebiet werden rechtsextremer Terror, Nazi-Ideologien sowie die internationalen und institutionellen Verflechtungen der Neonazis geschildert. In diesem Zusammenhang wird auch die Rolle des deutschen Verfassungsschutzes und seiner V-Leute kritisch beleuchtet. Wichtiges Buch. Jetzt. Morgen. Und übermorgen.

Прогортав у «Графічному кафе» на Книжковому Арсеналі, поки схолола кава. Графіка жорстка, сильна, історія, мабуть, гостросоціальна. Але навряд чи я б вчитувався глибше, це явно не мій текст.

Great and frightening introduction to right-wing neo-nazi terrorism in Germany. I read it after watching the miniseries "NSU: German History X" and both works enriched each other.
