Dr. Ronald Stoneridge invented something so incredible it would have changed the world, if the world hadn’t ended first.
By accident, he created a time slip while trying to test a new clean energy source. When he finds out his wife is dying of a rare cancer and the cure is five years away, he decides to slip forward in time and bring the cure back to the present. Only, this is a one-way trip and his destination is at a time right after an apocalypse has brought the world into a new stone age.
Can Dr. Ron save his wife, when he'll have a hard enough time saving himself?
What is a Stone Age Short? It is a stand-alone story, in which some or all of it takes place within the world of Stone Age.
I devour the same books I enjoy writing: science fiction, set in an apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic or dystopian world. I love stories about regular people being thrust into extra ordinary circumstances, and having to rely on their own cunning and that of others to survive. And I love a twist at the end.
My just released Ashfall Apocalypse, as well as previous series Madness, Highway and Stone Age are those kind of stories. They're fast moving, have some regular (and amazing) characters who must make life changing decisions, all while the world is experiencing an apocalypse.
Besides writing, my wife and I travel the world (often to research the next book). But often you can find me on a beach, Kindle in hand, with my Toes in the Water (name of my publishing company).
"Time Slip" a novella in the Stone Age series opens with Dr. Ronald Stoneridge's creation of a gateway into the future. Hearing about a possible cure for his wife Betsy's rare form of cancer, Dr. Ron decides to take a one-way trip to the future only to find his laboratory in ruins, damaged by a mysterious event. With an indomitable will he sets out to find the answer he needs in an apocalyptic world, hoping he's not too late to relay it back to his friend Dr. Monty Merriweather who's keeping watch over his machine.
In standalone story not only does M.L. Banner link Dr. Ron's time travel mission to Cicada but also to a build-up of gamma radiation that could affect the earth's magnetic fields. Captivating and mysterious with the deadly pursuit of a killer looking for research data for an unnamed buyer, the plot moves quickly and smoothly to a climax that leaves several unanswered questions.
Although plot-oriented, characters like Dr. Ron Stoneridge and Dr. Monty Merriweather are memorable as they each face challenges that test their perseverance and strength-of-will. In the future Dr. Ron must endure Stone Age conditions with its deprivations as he journeys to Cicada while Dr. Monty struggles to stay alive when chased by a killer.
I enjoyed "Time Slip" a novella that fuels insight and speculation for future novels in the Cicada series.
This is a story about traveling into the future for a cure for his wife. There are all sorts of bumps along the way but to find out if he makes it or not and to find out what happens in the end you must read this and then think to yourself could this really happen...
