It's been quite a while since I read the books in this series so it was with great delight that I realised the heroine Abbey is the daughter of Savannah and Rane who were the main characters in my first book by this author, although technically Nights Pleasure was the third book in this series. It's part of the charm of these books that they each work very well as standalone stories and yet the various characters who connect only serve to enrich the readers pleasure.
Abbey is kind of at a crossroads in her life when at twenty six years old she decides a change in direction is what she needs. However Abbey is not your average young woman because her parents are vampires! Oh Abbey is very much human and has never really desired to accept the Dark Gift but there are times when alone that she wonders if she is making the right choice.
Nick is a two thousand year old vampire searching for his sire when he unexpectedly meets a lovely young woman who is bright,entertaining and almost too perfect. A connection is formed but a freak accident sees Abbey disappearing on him as someone suspects just what he is and whisk's Abbey far away. Nick is not one to give up though and chase's across country only to discover that Abbey has her own secrets!
This is quite hard to review as it's frankly an almost instant romance which is not my preferred type of story. Nick does something unknown to Abbey that is deplorable really but she instantly forgives him which I struggled with. Yes she has been raised around vampires but at times Abbey felt quite naive. Nick has a lot to contend with as until he met Abbey he was prepared to end his life so this newly formed relationship quite literally gives him a whole new perspective on life. Abbey and Nick seem to know they love each other almost immediately but she's mortal and wants to stay that way so for Nick there's only one answer and that means finding a cure for vampirism! Add in in-laws who really know how to make a guy feel unwanted and this relationship seems doomed from the start!
There is a lot more going on here than just a romance with the humorous twist of an overprotective father! These vampires are hunted and perhaps the most surprising thing is that Abbey is descended from Van Helsing ( yes THAT Van Helsing)and it adds a delightful subplot. Speaking of which, wacky characters also rear their heads in this story with two quite incorrigible more mature ladies adding a lighter touch to proceedings. Not a particularly dark story but nevertheless it was fun to catch up with this world Ms Ashley has created and if you prefer gentle sensuous romances that don't have you rolling your eyes this book should fit the bill

The pleasures of the world have lost their appeal, so Nick is in search of the vampire who made him to see if the rumors are true and the reader can’t help but get drawn into the story as one chance encounter rocks the foundations of Nick and Abbey. The chemistry instantly sizzles with lots of passion from the first connection but the relationship has a little snag – Nick is a vampire that wants to be human and Abbey is from a family of vampires that has lots of questions which brings some emotional issues to the forefront and captures the hearts. The characters are strong, enthralling and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning while the fast paced, smooth flowing plot captivates readers with lots of suspense, excitement and romance.
The hunters are out in force with two goals, they are looking for the vampires that killed two of their own and they are searching for a book that just happens to belong to Savannah, Abbey’s mother which has expectation building lots of tension and excitement throughout the story with some exciting encounters between the humans and the vampires. Anticipation also builds throughout the story in Abbey and Nick’s relationship as the reader awaits the outcome of their decisions with some jealousies due to past relationships adding spice to the story.
The intriguing events guarantee that there is never a dull moment and I was completely absorbed in the story from the very beginning, and as I have a particular fondness for vampires, I can never get enough of Amanda Ashley’s sexy vampire world.

Seventh in the Children of the Night paranormal romance series and revolving around the Cordova-DeLongpre family of vampires and humans. The couple focus is on Abbey Cordova and Nick Desanto. Based in Northern California.
This ARC was sent to me by NetGalley and Zebra for an honest review.
My Take
It's a cozy read and feels like the 1950s with its doting, concerned parents. While it's a fun read, it is not an A-quality read as Ashley doesn't develop the romance smoothly, the writing itself is lacking in grace, and there's no real depth to the story. Be warned, it's also insta-love.
It's age, how one looks and a feeling of not belonging that drives Abbey's worries while Nick is bored, fed up with having lived too long. It doesn't take much for Nick to change his mind about living, and the real question, for him, devolves to how he wants to live: as a vampire or a human. As for Abbey, the story becomes a vehicle for Ashley to explore the pluses and minuses of being either human or vampire. To explore that human yearning for wherever the grass is greener.
Savannah's thoughts about becoming a vampire are poignant, making me feel how important the little things in life really are. On the other hand, Nick's musings about what he misses about being a vampire are also sweet. It's a two-way street with whatever you've become accustomed to over the years (and years and years and years, lol) seeming the proper way to do things.
Oh, boy, the dreaded she-deserves-better trope…*eye roll*…
Two issues I'm wondering about include Ashley stating that Rane is a born vampire and then later she says that he was turned vampire when he and Rafe turned thirteen. So, which is it? Born means when you're born, doesn't it? Then there are all these "uncles". If Rane is her dad, shouldn't some of those "uncles" be "grandfathers" and "great-grands"?
Aww, the new setting for Pearl and Edna is so sweet. And quite fortuitous.
I suspect I'd have gotten more out of the story if I'd read the previous installments. There is a lot in here that's implied and assumes that you know about past incidents.

The Characters
Abbey Marie Cordova is a wanna-be actress struggling in New York City. Rane Cordova, a former magician and vampire, is her adoptive father. Savannah was her human mother who chose the Dark Gift after Abbey graduated from high school. (Savannah's father is William Gentry, and she's a direct descendant of Abraham Van Helsing through her vampire-hunter mother, Barbara Gentry.) Freckles is the horse her parents give Abbey. Serenity is the very high-strung horse Savannah usually rides.
Niccola "Nick" Desanto is over 2,000 years old, but still younger than Mara, the vampire who turned him. He was her first.
Uncle Logan Blackwood, a.k.a., Hektor, is an Oscar-winning director, married to Mara, Queen of the Vampires who is better than 2,000 years old, about whom rumors flew that she was human again. Derek, Mara's son and a werewolf, got married last month to Sheree. Mara is godmother to Abbey, Rane, and Rane's twin brother, Rafe, whose parents are Uncle Vince Cordova and his wife, Cara. Uncle Rafe is married to Kathy. Cara is Uncle Roshan (vampire) and Aunt Brenna (witch) DeLongpre's daughter.
Pearl Jackson, a.k.a., Anita, might have a cure for what ails an old vampire. Edna Mae Turner, a.k.a., Brittany, is her partner and completely unable to keep a secret. (Uncle Rafe turned these two hunters during the War.) James Harkness and his friend, Monroe Taylor, take Anita and Brittany out on a date. Al, the bartender, is a vampire, and Diane is a waitress there.
Dendar is the vampire who turned Mara. Kyle Bowden, a werewolf, had once been married to Mara. Father Lanzoni, a vampire priest, has married many of the Cordova-DeLongpre vampires. (He was a priest when he was turned.)
The hunters include…
Louise McDonald and Cindy McDonald Meloni, sisters, were legendary hunters who have been killed. F. Meloni is Cindy's daughter. Thad Rivers is a hunter who kidnaps Pearl and Edna. Cal. Clary and Berta are part of the kidnapping party.
Peter Abbott is Abbey's agent. Zendeya is a witch descended from Zara, the witch who did some altering in the Van Helsing book. Miles Jay Cunningham, an accountant, was the sperm donor with several aliases: Miles Novotny, a warlock in New Orleans; Miles Lightner, a self-proclaimed psychic and healer in Boston; Ace Lightner in Santa Fe; and, a dealer in Atlantic City.
The Cover and Title
The cover has the most gorgeous man on it, or should I say 2,000-plus-year-old vampire? Dark hair, stubble on his chin, naked from the waist up with a background of silhouetted trees against a blazing yellow sunset — who wouldn't fall in love? A gorgeous scroll flows across the bottom with the author's name in a serif font and a smaller swirl for the title in a sunset yellow-orange with the name of the series in white.
The title is all about Abbey and her metaphorical capitulation to Night's Surrender.

"A man who wouldn't look at eleven helpless humans and think of them as lunch."Oh, brother. Logan's jealousy is so contrived. He should be feeling secure about her love for him, and that scene with Mara licking some blood from Nick's lip is a definite eye-roller with yet more eye rolls needed when Abbey confronts Nick about the lipstick. Sure, you'd think Logan's and Abbey's reactions are reasonable…but just wait until you read the scenes, though…*eyes rolling like a one-armed bandit*…

Abbey Marie Cordova is quickly realizing she will never be an actress. When she goes out to find another job she bumps into Nick. Nick asks her out and she accepts, little does she know that Nick is a vampire. Abbey has been raised in a family of vampires, she is not shocked to hear Nick is one but her family wants her to stay away from Nick. Abbey however knows she wants to be with Nick, but what of her humanity, how long will he stay? Throw in enemies who are out to destroy them, you have a sensational read.
Always a fan of Amanda Ashley's work. I love how she can take a story and fill it with twists and turns that you are guessing until the end. Nick was a fascinating character, I was rooting for Nick and Abbey from the beginning. Look forward to more in this series.

If I could give it less than a star I would. I have absolutely NO idea how I finished it...maybe by sheer force of will alone. Absolutely terrible. The writing style was so jumpy, the dialogue was crap...she tried to make a 2,000+ year old vampire sound like a country bumpkin, and I just can't even handle how terrible the MFC was. Useless...

This book had my pet peeve of people suddenly declaring their love for each other with no back story- boom, they say I love you out of nowhere. Blech.

A woman worth being mortal for
I was a quarter to half way through this book before I started trying to analyze why it wasn’t appealing to me as much as I had expected it to. I knew it wasn’t because the author’s writing wasn’t great because Amanda Ashley’s writing is just that. I started looking at my own feelings as I read it and what my expectations had become when I read a paranormal romance. I came to realize that I had begun to expect a quicker pace, more action, those do or die moments and more heat. While Night’s Surrender held all of those elements, the pacing was much too slow for me and those elements just didn’t pack the same punch in this story. The story overall was more of an introspection of acceptance for both the heroine and the hero. It was more of a sweet romance than I’ve favored in some years.
Abbey Marie Cordova is a twenty six year old acting student when the story begins to unfold. She is uncertain of her choices thus far in life and is on the cusp of giving up her acting career. Raised by her vampire family she is the only mortal in a group of immortal predators. While she knows she has only to speak the words and the dark gift would be hers, she has no real wish to join her family in a life of eternity. Then she meets Nick. Abbey has no clue when she meets him that he’s a vampire. Their attraction is instantaneous and she easily accepts that it’s love at first sight. Her gut tells her that Nick and her are meant to be together. Her struggle is in deciding how long that together will be… one lifetime or an eternity.
Niccolo Desanto has been living the eternal life for over two thousand years and he is tired of it. By all accounts, he is one of the ancients. Life or the undead life no longer holds any appeal. Lately he has been contemplating meeting the sun or any other measure of horror it would take to end it all. His only hope is in finding his maker, Mara. He had heard the rumors that Mara had found humanity. If she could share the secret with him perhaps, he could go on. If not he prays she will help him find peace of a permit nature, after all she owes him. Nick had been turned against his will and abandoned shortly after by Mara. She owed him for the lives he had inadvertently taken in his fledgling ignorance when she left. However, all thoughts of ending it or even seeking out Mara fly out the window when he meets Abbey. She is his inspiration for the rest of eternity. He would follow her to the ends of the world and figure out a way to regain his mortality to remain at her side. He struggles to fight his nature and to accept who he is.
Night’s Surrender also had some interesting secondary characters and their intertwined romantic story arcs woven throughout. In addition, there is the threat of vampire hunters. I just didn’t feel the implied threat of the hunters felt dire enough. I’m guessing this is a factor of the lack of action and the amount of time spent on the main characters struggles with wanting to be mortal or immortal. All in all the book was a 3.5 for me. Had either the action or heat been a bit more I’m sure it could have easily jumped to a 4. I would recommend Night’s Surrender to romance readers that enjoy a paranormal vampire romance of a sweeter nature.

Quick & Dirty: A chance meeting, a secret, a human surrounded by the supernatural, will there love find a way?
Opening Sentence: “Abbey Marie Cordova stood on the balcony of her small New York apartment.”
The Review:
Abbey is an aspiring actress who has just begun to realize that she just doesn’t have what it takes when a chance meeting with Nick changes everything. She agrees to go out with him, and they have a great date and make another date for the next night. However, that night there is a car accident and Abbey wakes alone in his condo, but Nick is no where to be found. Only when she gets home and her father asks about the new vampire does she realize that Nick is a vampire.
She then leaves New York to return with her vampire father to California. Only to have Nick follow her there, and they all find out he is over 2,000 years old. Mara is his maker, and they have a secret past. Edna and Pearl have disappeared, and everyone is concerned because the hunters are in a up roar about the death of the most famous hunter. It also turns out that Edna and Pearl have a cure for vampirism. In fact, the hunters that kidnapped them are looking for that cure. Nick is also intrigued by the cure, although no one is sure because of his age if it will work or not.
Nick and Abbey are firmly in love by this point despite her insecurity about Mara (who is also her friend). Her vampire parents have misgivings considering he is a bit older than her and not human. But this cure could change everything!
I really enjoyed this book, it was pure paranormal romance, with a little bit of mystery thrown in. I just have to say that as for the usual, I haven’t read this series. I don’t know if this picks up from the last book, but considering I wasn’t horribly lost, I am going to go with each book focuses on a couple instead of a larger continuing series. Although, I am sure most of these characters would be familiar if you are a fan of the series and not picking up book 7 like I did. I did laugh a little bit, I mean Abbey doesn’t know Nick is a vampire, despite being raised by them, I thought that aspect was crazy. However, overall I really like the cure, and the fact that this book had witches, werewolves and vampires!
I mean if you are going to read paranormal it should have it all! Night’s Surrender was a quick easy read, and not heavy on the sex and light on the story! So if you like paranormal romances this series is right up your lane!

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, I haven't read any of the previous books from this series. I still got the jist of the whole story, though, so I think I am still qualified to review this book. However, I also feel like I would have had a lot more background on the characters, entities, and supernatural world that the author created for this series. Anyway, this isn't my first book from Amanda Ashley, so I, at least, am familiar with her style and genre.
I liked this book. I didn't love it, though, because there were certain parts of the book that confused me, and that had nothing to do with the continuity of the series or anything referenced from the previous books. No. What confused me was the love story of the main characters. I don't know if they were really in love or were just confused. The heroine was a bit difficult to understand. The hero also wasn't a perfect character.

Abbey is at a critical point in her life. Raised as a human in an vampire family, Abbey must decide whether to turn to a vampire or age out past her parents. Abbey has never really considered taking the “Dark Gift” until Nick. Nick makes her feel more alive, beautiful and worth changing for.

Night's Surrender is the seventh book in Amanda Ashley's Children of the Night series but it can fairly be read as a standalone (although if you are a reader who's a stickler for the worldbuilding it would be best to read the first books). The book starts out fairly slow and you actually don't know where the story is headed at first. Its definitely a love story between a human who was raised in the world of vampires and a vampire who has lived centuries but is starting to crave the humanity he has lost. For Nick the story starts out with a rumor of trying to find his maker to see if it would be really be possible to return to being human. For Abbey, she's young but feels unaccomplished and starting to question whether being human or being vampire is best for her. This is still a well written romance however the action felt slow and often times meandering at certain parts. I think its best for the other books to be read to get a better appreciation of the story line for this one.

Nick and Abbey's story was too neatly wrapped up and the pacing was a little slow. The secondary characters seemed to steal the show for me. I liked the eccentricities of Pearl and Edna. They may have been my favorites. Book seven in the Children of The Night series and still cute enough to read especially if you're following all the books. This may be a light story but it makes for a great afternoon of entertainment.

As much as I did enjoy this book, the pacing was not for me. It seemed to drag most of the time and the action we do see is a page long and not very detailed. In general, the whole story was lacking in details that make a story. Sadly, it was not the main characters that I enjoyed. Nick disappointed me at best. Even though he did show that he loved unconditionally Abbey, his attraction to his sire set even my teeth on edge. At the same time, Abbey was not a strong character, not standing up for herself and seemed more whiney than anything. In all, I can't say that I would willingly pick this up again and it's not a read I personally would recommend.

To Be or Not to Be --Vampire
Abbey is the only mortal in a family of vampires. When she meets the love of her life, she must decide if being human or becoming vampire is best for her. The story is romantic and Abbey is filled with indecision. I was surprised by the ending. Also I enjoyed reading about characters from earlier books.

Being the only human in her family of vampires Abbey has felt left out sometimes,like she doesn't belong.Meeting Nick makes her question things-yet he always makes her feel at home.Read on and see what her future holds.Nice fantasy storytelling.Good enough for me to want to read more.

Adopted by vampire parents and growing up among immortals, the heroine always felt a bit like an outsider in her own family-though she always felt loved and adored. Privy to her mothers regrets and discouragement over her decision to become a vampire has made the heroine completely against her own transformation.
When she meets a beautiful tall vampire one day in a computer store, she becomes seriously attached to the man after one date. And in turn, he becomes just as attached to her. Changed against his will so many years ago, the hero has always resented his immortality and he's actually gotten to the point of actively seeking out his maker to end his existence. That is until he meets the mortal who changes everything. He becomes smitten with her, following her to her parents estate much to their displeasure. They are very much opposed to the idea of their only daughter becoming involved with a vampire let alone one as old as the hero is but it's obvious she has a mind of her own and her heart is already deeply bound to his.
When news of a vampire hunter comes to town, they send her away to a hide away with the hero in tow as protection. There, the hero discovers the idea of a cure for his immortality. Though he wants the cure for himself, no longer finding any sort of happiness in his current state, it's the fact that if he remains a vampire, the woman he loves will grow old and die without him that drives him. The first time fails to work and he gets discouraged, distancing himself from her until he can become something worthy of her love. Then his dreams come true and he finds himself mortal. He immediately marries the heroine and together they enjoy a few months of bliss.
That is until he finds the cure regressing and his vampirism returning. But at that point, the hero and heroine had both realized that being a vampire is who he is and without it, something is missing.
I thought this book was a total filter episode. It was 100% skim worthy at best. I wasn't enchanted with the story or with the characters at all. I found everything about it rather dull and flat. It had no substance. The characters just talked at one another and it felt very much like the author was on auto pilot while writing it. Or rather it felt like she was rushed to pump out a book-any book-for her deadline without caring one way or another if the story was any good. Again I find myself wondering I even bother to try any books in this series as statistically I know it'll probably be another dud.

Abbey Cordova is a mortal amongst a family of Vampires. Her life is really no different....except that her parents are Vampires. She has been in NY for 5 years with hopes of becoming an actress but now she has figured out that she doesn't have what it may take. As her acting coach told her, she has the talent but not the need to crawl and claw her way to the top- she is too nice. So she is going back home, to California.
A few days before she is to leave, she meets a man, Nick DeSantis. He asks her out on a date and she feels such a connection to him, more than she should for a stranger. He feels the same....and he knows he will go where she does.
Indeed Nick does follow her back home and her father Rane is not very happy about it. Nick is one of the oldest Vampires around, what could he want with Abbey? It all comes down to love. They are falling in love with one another.
There are many complications of course, as if being a mortal and Vampire weren't enough. Nick was turned by Mara, who is Abbeys Godmother. They also slept together for several months and then she deserted him, not teaching him "how to be a Vampire". Mara's husband is extremely jealous and Abbey isn't feeling too secure either. There are also hunters about, to extinguish all Vampires.
There may be a cure for Vampirism and Nick would be willing to try it to be with Abbey. Abbey has toiled with the thoughts of being turned but she is not ready yet but if the cure works, they don't know, it could kill Nick.
What will Abbey and Nick decide?
I have read several of Amanda Ashley's books although this is the first from this series. I did enjoy it as I have always liked her writing. I can picture the characters pretty well, especially Nick and Abbey. I think they were meant to be although her father doesn't want to think that way. Rane is a typical father.
I could get a good read on the rest of the characters although I haven't read their book as of yet. What I saw and what is important is love and family. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves hunky Vampire men who just want to be with their woman!

Amanda Ashley has a way of writing that makes the words flow effortlessly, almost like the ready is watching a movie. The scenes are vibrant, the chapters aren’t rushed and every conversation between characters is relatable. Although paranormal in nature, it doesn’t seem as a farfetched theory or story since basics are used, that is, clubs, stores and restaurants from the actual areas are described, and qualities and faults of the characters are relatable, makes this novel one that readers can appreciate and find much entertainment. Although part of a series, which I suggest readers to read before hand, it is possible however to read as a standalone.

Book 7 in the Children of the Night series
This was such a fun book! It is not only the story of Abbey Marie Cordova and Nick Desanto, but we get to see many of the characters from the other Children of the Night books. And I’m not talking about one or two scenes where maybe the “older” characters say a little something, but multiple scenes where we get to learn what’s going on with them, what they are thinking and feeling. Brava, Ms. Ashley, you are the first to bring old characters back successfully- that I have read. I really appreciate it.
Abbey Cordova is the daughter of Rane and Savannah from Night's Pleasure and the god-daughter of Mara from all the past books, but her HEA features in Night's Mistress. And it was nice to learn about what happened to Abbey, who was born from her then human mom, Savannah, with the help of a sperm donor. And to see what finally becomes of two favorite secondary characters, yes, I am talking about Pearl and Edna. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, so if you love those two like I do, don’t miss this book!

Abby knows all about vampires after all her mother and father are ones. She has yet to choose to take the "dark gift". She always thought she would be an actress but has come to realize she just doesn't have the passion for it. And when she makes up her mind to leave acting and New York she runs into Nick. The story has several twists and turns while they deal with her decision. There are characters in this story that will make you laugh out loud. Wait until you meet Pearl and Edna.

The description of this book grabbed at me as I love to read paranormal romance. I was surprised, upon researching the author that I haven't read any in this series prior to my reading this, the last book in the series to date. Even though I didn't have any prior knowledge of the characters or story lines, this book can be a stand alone. Obviously the characters and their significant others, after being mentioned, leave you wanting to know their stories and in doing so prompts you to get your hands on the others in this series as soon as possible. Well it did for me anyway!
I really enjoyed the dynamic between Abbey and Nick. I personally liked Abbeys struggles with being a human surrounded by vampires, and Nicks willingness to give it all up for true love. The hunters give a little suspense and that's always a plus in a paranormal or any romance for that matter. I really enjoyed this book. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 was because I thought there were some placed where the momentum lagged. But all in all a good read.

Another phenomenal book in this series by Ms. Ashley. Everyone of her books makes you feel the characters come to life and sit right down next to you.
Abbey Marie Cordova is the human daughter of Rane and Savanah Cordova , from book #4 who are Vampire's in fact the whole family are vampires. Abbey lived in New York trying to be an actress, after awhile she had to admit she was bad, her heart wasn't in it. Abbey decided to go back to California to her parents ranch and figure out what to do.
Nick short for Niccola Desanto was a two thousand year old Vampire who was bored and wanted to die. Then he literally ran into Abbey and knew he had to make her his. So he followed her to California where she went to and met her family who were all vampires. And now this book is about to get interesting you got to read it to find out. I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful.

Amanda Ashley is one of the first writers with vampires as the main characters that I remember reading in paperback. With that said, Night's Surrender begins by the two main characters contemplating their lives. Nick is a vampire who thinks being human is better, Abby is a want to be actress who fears growing old. I really like this sort of grass is greener on the other side question as we meet these two before they have met each other. Such a normal pondering.
I liked both Nick and Abbey but did find him to be stalking in the beginning. I guess vampire do that. However, it is when Abbey returns home to her vampire parents that the story takes off. No one can put a stalking vampire in their place like a girl’s father!
There are lot of twists in the romance with some vampire hunters and some hilarious eccentric supporting characters making appearances. An all-around fun interesting read, just like I remember Amanda Ashley’s books to be.

Night's Surrender is the seventh instalment of the Children of The Night series. It can be read as a standalone but to fully appreciate the world that Amanda Ashley has created, I would recommend reading the series in order.
Abbey is the daughter vampires and is at a crossroads in her life - she must choose between becoming a vampire or continuing to age. Nick is a 2000 year old vampire looking for a cure for vampirism. As soon as the two meet, something ignites in both of them that they have not felt before.
Night's Surrender is a well written, captivating read with an intriguing story, action, angst and romance. Nick and Abbey worked great together as a couple and their passion filled relationship was believable and loving. Both the main and supporting characters were likeable and easy to connect with.
I will definitely be continuing with this series and I recommend Night's Surrender, and the rest of the Children of the Night series, to lovers of paranormal romance.
