“Fire Hollow Nightmare” by Michelle Powers is another creepy, entertaining entry in the My Bloody Camping Collection. Set in the 80’s, this short slasher horror story proves that some rules exist for a reason, especially the rule about no fires after midnight!
The story pulled me in quickly and delivered plenty of tension, suspense, and eerie atmosphere. I loved the creeping sense of dread as things began to unravel.
If you enjoy campfire horror, 80s slasher nostalgia, and fast-paced scares, this series is definitely worth picking up!

No fires after midnight! I got chills more than once when reading this story and I’m not even in a forest. I read this because I love a good, spooky campfire tale and because I absolutely loved her Christmas short story, “Jollyland”! I need to read more of Michelle Power’s stories because I’m loving her dark style so far! Never a dull moment. Now, excuse me while I go have some nightmares.

My Bloody Camping Collection #2
I inhaled this book in about 45 minutes. Not because it’s short… because apparently I temporarily transformed into an unhinged little reading goblin who hissed at anything that dared interrupt me.
This is peak nostalgic camping slasher goodness. You’ve got a group of friends, a remote campground, enough alcohol to guarantee poor decision-making, a bonfire, and one very simple rule:
No fires after midnight.
Now tell me… has there ever been a horror character who heard the words “don’t do that” and thought, “You know what? That’s a reasonable request.” Absolutely not. Horror characters treat rules like toddlers treat freshly painted walls.
So naturally… they light the fire.
And, shockingly, actions have consequences. Who knew?
What follows is exactly why I love these books. Blood. Chaos. Terrible life choices. Running through dark woods as if cardio suddenly became everyone’s personality. It’s basically a public service announcement explaining why I happily read about camping instead of actually going camping.
The ending doesn’t try to be clever with seventeen plot twists that require a conspiracy board and three cups of coffee to understand. It gives you what every good slasher should have: a final girl. Or does it? That’s all you’re getting from me. Go earn your trauma the old-fashioned way.
No spoilers because these books aren’t about solving a mystery. They’re about grabbing a flashlight, sitting by a campfire, and watching fictional people make spectacularly stupid decisions while you silently judge them from the safety of your blanket.
If you’re one of my fellow unhinged reading goblins who finds comfort in bloody camping horror, this series deserves a spot on your shelf. There are three books, and the best part is you can read them in any order.
Take this one camping if you dare. Read it by the bonfire… and maybe, unlike these people, follow the one rule you’re given. I’d hate for you to become the sequel.
Five bloody camping stars from me. These books are my slasher comfort reads. They’re cheesy, bloody, ridiculously fun, and somehow always leave me closing the book with the biggest grin.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll continue enjoying camping the only acceptable way: from my couch, where the only thing trying to kill me is my ever-growing TBR.

I just finished 'Fire Hollow Nightmare'
📚by Michelle Powers, Author , and it completely blew me away! If you are looking for the absolute perfect, chilling book to read this summer, this is it.
Michelle Powers did a phenomenal job building a sense of deep, isolating dread that kept me invested. The story takes place over a chaotic Memorial Day weekend at Shallow Lake Campground. The second this group of friends decides to break the strict park rules about late-night fires, things get incredibly eerie. The tension starts right from the very first page as they deal with mysterious smoke and strange footprints lurking in the dark woods of Fire Hollow.
Beyond the scares, I absolutely loved the fun character dynamics, especially a hilarious, ongoing debate they have about who the best 1980s rock band is!
The pacing is incredibly fast, the mystery is deeply gripping, and the ending completely caught me off guard! I started it and simply could not put it down until I turned the very last page. It is a fantastic addition to the "My Bloody Camping Collection" 🔪 series.
No spoilers here, but if you love unputdownable psychological suspense with dark twists and an unsettling atmosphere, you need to add this to the top of your TBR list immediately.

Jen, Kevin, Lisa, Melissa, Scott, and Brian take their Memorial Day weekend trip to Shallow Lake Campground. Fire Hollow has rules: no flame unattended, and no fires after midnight. After Brian breaks this rule to have a little more fun after dark, awful things start to happen to the group of friends on their weekend away.
I love a creepy campfire story that comes to life, and the cheeky meta foreshadowing at the beginning was so 80’s horror movie. We get a lot of throwback to classic horror slashers here which is so fun, and the amount of gore is I think *just enough* to keep the story interesting and not too off putting.
I would’ve loved to see a bit more out of the final girl and killer scene, but overall I think it was a great read!

Fire Hollow Nightmare was the kind of book that crawls under your skin and refuses to leave. The eerie atmosphere was done so well that I could easily picture this story playing out as a psychological horror movie. Every chapter added another layer of dread, and once the first character died, I stopped trusting the story to spare anyone. I kept waiting for the next devastating moment.
What really impressed me was the ending. I thought I had everything figured out, but the final twist completely blindsided me in the best way possible. Books that can genuinely shock me are rare, and this one absolutely delivered. Dark, haunting, and incredibly addictive, this was impossible to put down.

This book had me up all night. At first, I thought, Wow, this is giving me Freddy vibes. Then I changed my mind and started getting major Jason Voorhees vibes instead. Reading it felt like stepping into an old-school '80s slasher movie, complete with suspense, tension, and that constant feeling that something terrible was about to happen. One detail that really stood out to me was the banana clip. I had completely forgotten about those, and it instantly transported me back in time. If you're a fan of classic slashers, this book definitely captures that nostalgic horror atmosphere.

Fire Hollow Nightmare is such a creepy, atmospheric read that I can honestly see it being turned into a movie. The tension keeps building the entire time, and after the first death, I purposely refused to get too attached to any of the characters because I knew heartbreak was coming. 😭
The ending completely got me. I never saw it coming. I love when a book can genuinely surprise me, and this one absolutely did. It's dark, unsettling, and impossible to put down.

A Great Paranormal Thriller
I read this one last out of the three Bloody Camping books. You could read them in any order, though this one works well after Cypress Hills Nightmare because of the ending of CHN.
Anyway, this one is a great piece of the triad. Creepy, fast paced and the ending was my favorite out of all 3!
Definitely reccomend this one as well as the other two

Fast paced and fun horror. Light on gore but makes up for it with a good villain and interesting characters. Definitely recommend
