Shallow Lake Campground has secrets...Welcome to Shallow Lake Campground. Where the firewood is stacked. The cabins are full. And some trails should never be taken after dark.
Every summer, campers gather at the firewood pile before splitting off to explore Shallow Lake’s most popular spots—Clear Creek, Cypress Hills…and Fire Hollow.
Fire Hollow has rules. No flames unattended. No fires past midnight. But rules don’t stop curiosity. And they definitely don’t stop twenty-somethings ready to party.
When a group of friends decide to ignore one of the rules, they expect to get scolded by a park ranger. They don’t expect the smoke. They don’t expect the footprints. And they definitely don’t expect to realize that something in Fire Hollow never burned out.
Because at Shallow Lake Campground, every trail leads somewhere. And some nightmares come true.
Michelle Powers writes the kind of thrillers that keep you up way past bedtime—just one more chapter, right? What started with her breakout novella, The First Murder, quickly snowballed into a full-blown obsession with killers, clues, and crime scenes (the fictional kind, of course). She’s the internationally recognized indie author behind the addictive Detective Willoughby series and a growing stack of standalone thrillers that will make you second-guess everyone you know. In 2024 and 2025, she proudly earned the coveted KDP All-Star title—a gold star for authors who live on coffee, plot twists, and sheer grit. When she’s not working her day job in logistics or plotting her next murder (on paper, we swear), Michelle can be found writing at her desk with her Rottweiler sidekick, Ozzy, snoring nearby.
“Fire Hollow Nightmare” by Michelle Powers is another creepy, entertaining entry in the My Bloody Camping Collection. Set in the 80’s, this short slasher horror story proves that some rules exist for a reason, especially the rule about no fires after midnight! The story pulled me in quickly and delivered plenty of tension, suspense, and eerie atmosphere. I loved the creeping sense of dread as things began to unravel. If you enjoy campfire horror, 80s slasher nostalgia, and fast-paced scares, this series is definitely worth picking up!
Fire Hollow Nightmare was the kind of book that crawls under your skin and refuses to leave. The eerie atmosphere was done so well that I could easily picture this story playing out as a psychological horror movie. Every chapter added another layer of dread, and once the first character died, I stopped trusting the story to spare anyone. I kept waiting for the next devastating moment.
What really impressed me was the ending. I thought I had everything figured out, but the final twist completely blindsided me in the best way possible. Books that can genuinely shock me are rare, and this one absolutely delivered. Dark, haunting, and incredibly addictive, this was impossible to put down.
Fire Hollow Nightmare is such a creepy, atmospheric read that I can honestly see it being turned into a movie. The tension keeps building the entire time, and after the first death, I purposely refused to get too attached to any of the characters because I knew heartbreak was coming. 😭
The ending completely got me. I never saw it coming. I love when a book can genuinely surprise me, and this one absolutely did. It's dark, unsettling, and impossible to put down.
