The title makes the purpose clear - this is a book for beginners. I think this book would be most appreciated by someone that hates indexes and flipping back and forth to find the right section because the layout is straight and to the point.

The first section, about 10 pages, is an introduction to oils. The why, how, when and the like.

The second section, about 50 pages, is an encyclopedia of 30 common oils. The selections are good and each one follows the format of Description, Source/History, Common Uses, Warnings.

The third is carrier oils - brief but detailed enough to be useful.

Last, there are recipes. This is the bulk of the book -more than 100 pages. At first, the layout seemed odd. Each one is written on a separate page, and since they are less than half a page long, there is more empty space than written word. The cynic in me thought, "Wanted the book to be bigger, I guess." Then, the benefit-of-the-doubt side of me thought, "That could be practical. People could make notes on effectiveness, changes, oil sources, etc." I'm leaning toward that view and realizing that this is something more EO books should do.
