Joe Murphy is a boxer. He’s twenty-eight years old and what most women would call hot. He’s a player, and his lifestyle is ruining his career. Joe’s had it, he’s crashing and he’s doing nothing to stop his decent into his own personal hell. Darlene Russo is a single mom and a huge boxing fan. Except she can’t afford to attend any of the bouts, she watches from afar, she’s a cleaning lady for the biggest sports arena in Brooklyn, New York. Darlene finds the drunken boxer, and helps him get home. The next morning she wakes up in his bed, scared and confused. Their night together comes in on her, the lovemaking and their use of no protection. Her worries were just beginning and Joe Murphy would face the test of his life.

The two main protagonists, Joe Murphy and Darlene Russo’s mutual attraction was instant when they met for the first time and they quickly acted upon it. Joe Murphy is of Italian and Irish descent. A six foot wall of solid muscle, a talented heavyweight boxer and a talented ladies’ man. Being as handsome as he is hasn’t been diminished by fighting in the ring. Not only does he know it, but also the ladies know it.
Darlene Russo is of Italian descent. A single mother’s been left to care for her son Devon who is now seven. Times are hard but she kept things going. She works as a housekeeper for a cleaning company that cleans the coliseum where events such as boxing matches are held. Simply a job which helps pay the bills.
As soon as you start the book, you’ll see that Joe is certainly living up to his colourful reputation. And I mean the one that he has with the ladies. However, he has lost yet another fight and had decided to drown his sorrows with alcohol drugs and women two in fact. The scoundrel! On a return visit to the coliseum, Joe bumps into the delectable Darlene where he seduces her with actions and words inevitably leading to what comes next. A hot scorching panty burning moment that kept me entranced! You cannot say that Ethan doesn't know how to write a hot sex scene. Bravo Mr Radcliff!
Joe and Darlene's feeling rise to the surface and both begin to question what they have for each other. Would the love of a good woman make this troubled boxer become what he was destined to be...? I don't want to give too much away since you will find that answer in the book.
Tarnished was a well written short story but in my opinion, the author could have taken this story a lot further than he did. It would have been great to have seen Joe come a courting Darlene, getting to know her and her son in more depth. I felt this read needed to explore Joe’s determination to turn his life around, clean up his act and start training as a professional boxer before he started to win his fights. Overall I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading future releases.
Not having read “erotica” before, I’m not sure what I was expecting here. I think I was waiting for it to be non-stop sex minus a plot, but that was most definitely not the case. In fact, the story here is really the thing… A very Rocky-like story of a fighter on a downward spiral who finds hope and inspiration with a young single mom. You aren’t sure if you’re going to like Joe Murphy when you first meet him… At least, I wasn’t sure I was going to like him. But that changed very quickly as I got to hear his view of his life, his disappointment in falling from grace… Soon he meets Darlene, a maintenance woman in the arena, and after an impromptu liaison, Joe begins to re-evaluate his life, seeing himself through Darlene’s enamored eyes and realizing all is not lost after all. Though he ultimately pursues reigniting his career, what Joe really wants is of a slightly more domestic bent… a real woman, a home, a family.
As I said above, I hadn’t read any of Ethan’s work before this or any erotica for that matter… I had read his poetry, though, and while most of it is decidedly (and graphically) about sex, some pieces of his poetry possess such a degree of pure emotional content I was not at all surprised to feel it in this story.
I was a bit disappointed at the technical writing of the piece, but it was one of his earlier works so I’m sure his style has grown since then. Some of Darlene’s dialogue, both spoken and inner, didn’t ring true for the type of character she is (but keep in mind I AM a single mom so I have a different perspective on how one would think than a man would, obviously).
Overall, I liked it. It seemed like it was a very personal story in many ways, and I think I learned something about the author in reading it that I wouldn’t have otherwise. A glimpse behind the mask, if you will.
“She wanted him, knowing this would never happen to her again, even if she found a genie in a bottle.”
“I’m not God, but if you come in I’ll make sure you have an epiphany.”
My Review:
I am having a difficult time rating this book. It is not great literature, it is erotica with some fantasy romance. It is not bad, it’s not exceptional, but is a bit better than just good with some interesting scenes and funny lines. As it is erotica, I guess it doesn’t need to be a believable story. It was entertaining, a quick and light read, but just a bit too airy for me.
This is the first book I’ve read by Ethan Radcliff and it won’t be my last. I did not know what to expect when I friend asked me if I would sign up for his release. I must say I was impressed. This story did not feel like a short story. Ethan kept my attention from the moment it started until the moment it ended.
Yes, the story was hot! But it was so much more than just steamy sex. Don’t get me wrong. I love the steamy scenes but I need more when I am reading.
The lead character Joe Murphy realized that he had pondered away his talent, money for a life full of sex and drugs. He had never felt desire for someone or desire to succeed in life until he met a woman late one evening. She evoked something in him that he never knew existed. He wanted to fight it because he was a big tough guy who didn’t do feelings. But he couldn’t stop thinking of her and he pursued her.
When we are first introduced to Joe he has just lost a fight. A fight he should have easily won. He knew it and so did everyone else. And what better way to lick his wounds than to divulge in the two things that cost him the match. I was shook my head at him. Though, I completely got why he did it.
When Joe heads back to the arena and bumps into Darlene Russo, he knew he should not pursue her but he cannot help himself. A man has needs right? Only problem was just one taste of Darlene left Joe craving more and more of her. She was different and he knew it.
I loved watching Joe's inner turmoil as he tried to fight his desire and want for Darlene. She was better than him in his eyes. Even if in her eyes he was better than her. She was everything he wanted in life. Darlene was happy, loved her child, and lived each day to the fullest. I was giddy when he realized he had to change for her… for them to be an US.
Darlene was such a spitfire. She put Joe and anyone else who needed lined out in their place. She opened Joe’s eyes so he could strive to be the man he truly wanted to be in life.
The ending of this story made me all smiles. I really wished there was more of this story. I would love for it to be a full novel one day.
Joe Murphy is a boxer who is on his way out of the business because of drinking and drugs. He hasn’t won a fight in ages, his manager walked away from him at his most recent loss because Joe isn’t putting forth the effort and his money is dwindling – what little he does have he is throwing away on the alcohol, drugs, and women. Enter Darlene – she’s cleaning staff at the arena where Joe boxes. Joe is sleeping off a high on one of the sofas when Darlene runs into him. Joe is still pretty high and Darlene hasn’t been with any one in a while and can’t turn Joe down once he decides he wants her. It gets pretty hot and Darlene leaves thinking it’s a one time thing but Joe hasn’t had enough.
Short read but I enjoyed that we got straight to the point – it heats up quickly. Recommended if you’re looking for a quick, sexy read.

My Thoughts on Tarnished
This started off as a quick, fun read told in both main character's pov. This was not really what I'd call a romance, and I would caution anyone looking for an actual romance that this is not it. Definitely more of the erotica genre. It was short so there wasn't much plot or character building. But for the most part it was entertaining and was able to hold my attention. Joe was a boxer who knew that his lifestyle choices were ruining his life and career but was still finding it hard to stop. Darlene was a single mom who happens to come across Joe's path. I didn't really get that she was a fan of boxing from the story. She just worked at an arena where boxing matches took place. Joe and Darlene spend a night together that they both find it hard to forget about. I didn't love the jumping in time line. I was never quite sure how much time had passed and it made things a little confusing. And there were moments when I found it hard to believe Joe was so into Darlene when he kept sleeping around and drooling over other women. All in all, if you're looking for a good, very quick erotic story, I recommend this one.

REVIEW New to me author.
In this story we have Joe Murphy who is a boxer on his way down he has not won a fight in awhile and was making no money and the money he does have he is throwing away on women, booze and drugs. His manager has walked away from him.
Darlene who works at the gym comes in to shut off the light but finds Joe who is beyond drunk. Joe wanted her badly he has had many women but none ever like Darlene. He took her against her will although she seems to have enjoyed it. Or did she? Darlene lets him know she won't report anything that happened. Joe feels some remorse however as this woman deserves so much more than what he just did to her.
Well it does not end and Darlene takes him to his home where he devours her body yet again. She wants this man with every breath. And Joe finally realizes he wants something more then the life he has been living.
Can Joe change for this woman? Will Darlene want him?
The book has a lot of hot passion, well written, story flows nicely although I would have liked more to the story line and less bedroom time.
I was gifted this book for an honest review. Tarnished
There's one thing that I think everyone can agree on about Ethan. The man knows how to write good sex!
Thankfully, that's not all he knows how to write well. I loved Tarnished because it's about second chances, and I'm a sucker for redeemed souls.
Joe is a boxer with an ego big enough to match his talent. He lets the fame and fortune go to his head, and it effects his career almost to the point of extinction. Laziness, drugs and sex do not make a good combination for a man with golden gloves.
Darlene is a single mom, trying to provide a good life for her son. She's sacrificed her own happiness and any romantic relationship to concentrate on being a good mom and good provider.
Then her world changes when she runs in to Joe Murphy. Their attraction is instant and scorching. What she sees as a one-time encounter, he sees as a turning point and a reason to change his life.
What I like about Joe is he's a genuine good guy. He doesn't look down on anyone. To him, it doesn't matter if you're the cleaning guy or the president. Darlene is equally as charming. She's sweet, a bit of a dreamer (aren't we all?) and very selfless.
This is a very quick, easy read that is filled with a ton of steamy sex, some very sweet moments and of course that redemption factor that I love. I literally read this book in a few hours, and enjoyed every second of it!
Joe Murphy had it all. Money, fame, and a heavyweight title within his reach. He played the game but was beginning to lose his footing. One night, he makes a move that will change his life forever, but will the woman he wants want him? That silver lining is starting to wear thin and tarnish like the rest of Joe's life. Can one woman pave the road to his way back?
Review: This was my first book by Ethan and I really enjoyed it. Not only did it have a good story line but also some pretty hot and smexy sex!!! Who doesn’t love HOT sex right??
This book is told through both Joe and Darlene’s POVs. Joe is a fighter that is struggling to stay on track. He is trying to keep his career alive and take care of his family but Joe keeps falling into drugs, drinking, and of course women. Darlene is a single mother just trying to make it for her and her son. The first encounter between these two was supposed to be a onetime thing well at least that’s what both thought. But as time goes neither Joe nor Darlene can think about anyone else or anything else but each other. Darlene is just want Joe needed to get his life back on track. I literally read this book in one sitting. I look forward to more books from Ethan. Fingers crossed for maybe a follow up from Joe and Darlene one day!
I have always wanted to read one of Ethan books and when I was offered to read Tarnished for an honest review, I took the chance. I’ve seen his name many time come up as a great author to read. I have to say He is amazing. You are taken in to Joe Murphy world of being a boxer and the fun that can bring with it. Joe is very well like by the ladies and plays this to his advantage. The choices he is making are pulling him under. Then one night when is about at his worst he meets Darlene. She is one of the clean staff for the arena that Joe boxes at. They end up together and have a wild night. Darlene ends up the next morning questioning her actions. These two are hot right from the start. There is no putting this book down till you turning the last page and then you want more. Joe at times had me wanting to slap him and then at times you just had to fall in love with him. Darlene is the single mom everyone just loves. She is always putting her child and everyone else first. I really loved her no judgmental character. She is one that takes the good with the bad and always finds the light. Great fast read. I loved every second of this book. Looking forward to reading more of Ethan’s books!
4 stars Joe is on the fast track to becoming a washed up boxer long before his time. He got a taste of fame winning a few fights and enjoyed the benefits of that, an endless supply of willing women and a bit of an addiction to cocaine. One night he meets Darlene, single mother and employee at the sports complex he fights at. She works the night shift on the cleaning crew, she's a few years older than Joe and the complete opposite of his type. But then he's not her type either. One drunken encounter leads Joe to realize he's screwing up his life. He needs to make changes and he believes Darlene is the reason for his revelation. Can two people, complete opposites in most every way find enough common ground to become exactly what they need?
Tarnished is a quick read that kept me hooked from just the first few pages. I enjoyed the back an forth in Darlene's head about why Joe would want her. And Joe's meeting by chance the one woman who could truly make him want to be a better man. 4-4.5 stars
Two opposites collide in undeniable attraction, but will they heal or destroy each other.?
I was curious about the premise of the story. There is this boxer who's past his prime and too deep in drugs and partying, and there is the mature mother who cleans the sports facilities. The night they cross paths, he's too drunk to respect her, and she's too infatuated and lonely to deny him. But the temptation leads to irresponsibility and a wake-up call for Joe Murphy big time.
I think the writing style is not too polished or meaningful to the plot. However, the story is catchy, the sexy times are plenty and entertaining.
I liked the character dynamics. Darlene has been on her own for a long time, thus she misses being cared for, loved. On the other hand, the story also tells that the way to redemption is by our own effort. Though it's nice when it's inspired by a person who can love you despite your mistakes.
All in all, it's a sexy, cute tale of getting over one's mistakes and finding love and hope with someone.
This is a quick sexy read. We see a man who let the trappings of fame get to him and now he is looking for a second chance. He has been humbled by his fall and is now hungry for a chance to win again. this hunger and desire to become more only came about because of a woman. A woman who had a strong work ethic and believed in him.
Joe had a meteoric rise to the top and once there he let it go. He let all the trappings of fame get to his head and he wasted it. He lost his desire to win and spent his time with woman and drugs. After his last loss, he meets Darlene. the cleaning woman at the place he fights. She seemed unassuming but was a siren for him. Afterwards he couldn’t keep him thoughts from her. Each time they were together was hot and steamy. she made him feel he could be a better person. She began to instill the drive to win again.
A smexy book about second chances and finding the right person to stand by your side and support and love you along the way. For Joe this was the sweet and hard working Darlene.
Tarnished is the first book I have read by Ethan Radcliff, I really enjoyed his style of writing. I liked the character of Joe. When we meet him he is a very flawed character. Drinking, drugs, women that is his motto ohh and boxing let’s not forget that. He is a horn dog for sure. But he happens to molest a woman who really can turn his life around. Darlene is a maid at the hotel Joe is staying at. Joe come in just plowed out of his mind, ends up having sex with her. She has a son, and knows this is wrong she should be more responsible but Joe is really that attractive to her. I liked the heat and passion between these two. It felt very real. Darlene turns out to be the one Joe cannot forget. Darlene needs a better man than a play boy prize fighter who drinks a lot. I like that Joe was able to turn that all around. He showed us sometimes you can turn your life around for the right person or the right incentive. When you want a passionate connection that is truly unforgettable this is the book to pick up.
I must be honest - I bought this book strictly because it was written by Ethan Radcliff. Having Read his wonderful book Man of Honor I knew I had to try more of his works. Being a sports lover, the synopsis of Tarnished caught my eye, and thus became my Radcliff book #2.
I must say this book grabbed me from the start and had me until the end. It's funny, erotic and heartfelt all rolled into on great story.
Tarnished is about a boxer, Joe Murphy, who let's Fame and Fortune get the best of him. His life begins to spiral out of control. Then Fate steps in and gives him a 2nd chance when he meets Darlene (or so Joe thinks). Can the wickedly charming yet dangerous boxer convince her and the boxing world to give him that 2nd chance? Is Darlene the answer?
2 Thumbs Up for this sexy short story that will having you laughing at Joe's antics, fanning yourself at his romantic prowess, and rooting for the good guys til the very end. (And I do so hope this isn't the last we've seen in the world of Joe Murphy)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was the first book for me by Ethan Radcliff and what a surprise it was for me. I loved Ethan's characters and the story line. I really enjoyed reading Tarnished. I started reading Tarnished today and just finished it. Tarnished hooked me one page one and I couldn't stop reading it I was glued to the pages. This book had it all a sexy alpha fighter and a single mom who loves going to the ring to watch the fights.
Joe Murphy is a boxer who is hot and sexy and also loves women. After his fights in the ring he goes home with the women. After one of his fights he gets drunk and meets Darlene who is a fan who happens to be a single mom.
I loved Ethan's writing style and the sex scenes were hot. Loved both Joe and Darlene characters. Looking forward to reading more from Ethan Radcliff in the future.
* * ARC given on behalf of obsessed by books for an honest review * *
This was a nice quick read, I I don't know if nice is the right word. Joe is a boxer who loves to fight, have lots of sex and cocaine. He has just about lost what little bit of career away, by not being serious and thinking with his d**k, until her Darlene. Darlene is a single mother trying to make a life for her and her son Devon, she's been working at the coliseum for 12 years, but she's never seen anything like she did the night she finds the famous Joe Murphy laid out in the theater room. When she try to help him up, things go wild. There is this huge attraction between them and neither can fight so before either can fully think they have a hot spicy night, but it doesn't stop there. I really enjoyed this book, it was short but it got to the point and amazingly hot.
Tarnished is about Joe Murphy, a boxer ho isn't having the best of times and is enjoying indulging in drugs, women and anything else not related to his career. He needs something to bring him out of this funk that he's in and this is where Darlene walks in. She is a cleaner and is trying to make ends meet. She works to provide for her and her son Devon. Their is an attraction of lust at first between the two. Joe doesn't think he's ready for anymore and Darlene seems so unsure of what she wants. I did enjoy reading Tarnished but i did feel that it was a bit short and their love story seemed to jump straight from lust to full on love straight away. It didn't have the inbetween and i felt it was missing. I did enjoy the story and the characters were really great as individuals but i didn't buy their love story.
Tarnished is a good read. When I first started reading it I wasn't sure whether it was going to be good or not. I was not a big fan of the prelude, after reading that I was wondering would I got myself into when I decided to read it but the prelude show us what type of life Joe is currently living. Joe is a boxer and a player. Joe's path crosses with Darlene. Darlene is the complete opposite of Joe. She's single mother. Joe is used to getting what he wants. He can pretty much have any woman he wants. He see something in Darlene that makes him want to change. I wasn't really a big fan of Joe's until after he first meet Darlene. Joe and Darlene are good together. As you read on you can see the changes that Joe makes in his life. Darlene and Joe have a great story. It's a quick short read.
I just read TARNISHED, my first book from Ethan Radcliff and I have to tell you that I was taken completely by this book.
You will meet Joe Murphy a professional heavyweithgt boxer who coul be a contender to win the title, but instead he does all the wrong things to achieve that goal, with partying with beatiful women, booze and drug.
In the mean time at the Coliseum, where Darlene Russo works as a cleaning lady, she hears noise coming from a room and decided to check it. At first she doesn’t see anyone and then, she sees him on the floor and try to help him but he’s to heavy for her, she fall on his side and then……
Will she help Joe get his life back together, and will he accept Darlene’s son?
Ethan has more books to be read like : Dom, The Taming of Molly Jenkins, the Collaring of Molly Jenkins, just to mention a few.
This is only the second book I have read by Ethan and I loved it! It short, sexy and perfect if you haven’t got time to read a full length novel but want a pick me up. I really enjoyed Joe and Darlene’s story, I could feel the chemistry between these two characters emanate off the page as I read. It was lovely to read about Joe changing his life around for Darlene and doing it so quickly. It’s an unlikely love story with a boxer falling for a cleaner but it works and is different to other erotic book books out there at the moment. I loved the sex scenes; Ethan sure does know how to make them hot! Overall a wonderful read and I hope we get to see more of Joe and Darlene’s story soon. 5 stars
I thought this was a really quick read. VERY HOT AND STEAMY! I enjoyed the characters especially getting to know how Joe Murphy works. What flows through an accomplished, sexy, hot ass mess of a fighter's life is definitely what you get. His actions and reactions were mostly how I believe a man in this role would act. I really liked Darlene's character initially, but felt like most of the situations and responses to them she gave were a bit unrealistic. I just don't think a woman in her situation would respond as she did. Ummm. Just a tad bit over the top especially at the ending but very entertaining. All in all it was a decent read just caused a few eye rolls on ocassion. Definitely pick it up and experience the heat for sure.
Joe is a fighter that hasn't been up to par for a bit. He life was nothing special until Darlene came into his life by some chance. A single mom that was beautiful but never saw it in herself to see or want more than everything for her son. She didn't want any relationships and work so hard to make the only man in her life so proud till that night and neither of them can forget each other. They are forces that are meant to be together in some way. Over the few times they have met together Darlene has fallen for him. And he has for her. Great book a fast read for sure. Definitely a must read.
"I've been looking for stars, silver ones but the tarnish...."
A FABULOUS short story of a boxer who has lost himself and his ambition. Alcohol, drugs, and women have become his priority. Joe Murphy may have finally realized the error of his ways after meeting Darlene Russo. She's not his normal type of conquest and he soon realizes why! She's real, true, and mature and just the one who could help him the person and athlete he needs and wants to be. Will Darlene settle for being with a man like Joe? Together can they achieve success? This HOT SIZZLING romance is a DEFINITE 5 STAR read!!
Joe Murphey and Darlene Russo couldn't be more opposites from each other. Joe Murphey is doing all the wrong things and ruining his carrier. Darlene is a single mom who is devoted in making a life for her and her son. In a chance encounter the both meet while she is working. Joe can't keep her from his thoughts and does all he can do to get her by his side. This is a perfect book about hitting close to rock bottom as one can be and climbing back out of the darkness. I recommend this short sexy read.
A fighter falls for a cleaner, almost has a pretty woman feel, well fantasy romance anyway.
Joe is a player and his career is suffering for it. Darlene is a cleaner and a single mum.
These two have a hot and steamy night together and another unplanned one too.... could it be more than sex?
I enjoyed this quick read Joe was a man who wanted to change and Darlene was happy to help him on his mission. The sex scenes were a great length, not too long as being a shorter book you wanted story and sexy bits balance.
Joe Murphy is an upcoming boxing star, but with drugs, alcohol and woman are ruining his chances of becoming a champion, but when Darlene comes along and embeds herself into his mind, does she have what it takes to turn his life around?
This was a nice short read that I enjoyed immensely. It was flamboyant and we'll structured. The characters were perfect. Though I'm disappointed it finished, I didn't stop me loving the book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Aimed at audiences of 18+ with HOT sexual content.
Joe is a boxer and a wild man. Life out of control and women all the time. Real messed up life. Darlene Russo a single mom to a boy named Devon meets Joe and then everything for Joe and Darlene changes. Ethan Radcliff did a wonderful job with this story. The sex scene were well done and found they fit into the story even with all the ones in the book. Single male boxer, women coming out of the woodwork. Can one woman change it all for Joe? Help him gain control of his life and finally settle down
Another 5-Star book from this fantastic Author! Ethan Radcliff has given us another hot erotic love story! My favorite books from him. Joe and Darlene are amazing together, their chemistry works! This story is fantastic, from beginning to end. One of those books you can't stop reading and wishing it wouldn't end! Maybe this Author will give us more Joe and Darlene. One can only hope. Don't miss this or any other books from Ethan Radcliff. Enjoy!
This is essentially a story about redemption. Joe is a bad boy professional boxer, who drinks, does drugs, and sleeps around with fluff pieces. Darlene is a single mom who works nights, cleaning the sporting arena. When the two meet, sparks fly and Joe is faced with an opportunity to be the man he's always wanted to be. Is he strong enough? This is a fairly short story, but with enough explicit sex for a full length novel.
Oh my gosh! What an awesome story. Tarnished is about a boxer, Joe Murphy, who let's Fame and Fortune get the best of him. But fate steps in and brings him a second chance when he meets Darlene (or so he thinks). Can the Wickedly dangerous boxer convince the woman and the boxing world to give him a chance?
Erotic, sexy and a well deserved 2 THUMBS UP! This reader is hoping for more to come from the world of Joe Murphy.
