Ugh. I keep forgetting this author is obviously using AI to write these books. You can tell from the sentences, the lack of details and choppy sentences.
It’s frustrating because I keep seeing blurbs of stories that I think will be cool and then within the first chapter I see the obvious signs but stick with it.
Story concept is cool but the story is short and lacks any real depth.

Apparently i am just not a fan of this author’s writing style. This is the third series I’ve attempted and i just can’t. The timeline moves really fast. The book encompasses an entire year so everything feels glossed over. I really just wish there was more character development.

Good, but a lot of things were not addressed. Family of mfc? They went there for a week but then just start their scholarships- what about their apartments? What about all the latents who dont go to the university? Staying clothed when shifting?
It was a good book but I doubt ill continue with the series.

cute story-no thrills
The story has good bones, but there’s no slow burn or build up of tensions. So many missed opportunities. The author does well when she actually has action, but it’s short lived and then pages of telling what happened instead of showing.
Jessica could have visited her lizard more often, studied by the fire while the professor watches. She could have studied in her room with her friends, maybe sometimes alone with Torres. Months of training with Luke and so many missed sexual tension opportunities that I would have LOVED to read about! More interactions with the other two princes other than one class and the one training.
Her friend group felt flat, too! I’d love for a girls only sleep over, gossiping about the other’s growing relationships, teasing each other, etc. A mean girl but only a couple “altercations,” doesn’t add to the tension.
Again, good bones, but could have spent more time showing than telling.

A mishap while hiking, leads to an invitation Jessica was never expecting. Suddenly she has been invited to join an elite academy, set in the Swiss alps, and it’s a place where Jessica discovers that shifters exist, and that she might just be one of them!
This means lessons, trials, and learning more about the shifter world. It also means dealing with archaic hierarchy, and the presence of several males she feels very drawn to…
This is a fun continuation of Jaye Marellen’s shifter academy world, and this book actually features two characters we met in the Frosthaven series. We have the usual academy antics; mean girls, unfair professors, and of course the shifter shenanigans during combat etc. for Jessica to deal with, which makes for an interesting read.
There is a small amount of spice in the book, but it’s obviously mostly paving the way for more to come later.
If you have enjoyed Jaye Marellen’s previous series, then this will be a welcome and entertaining read.

It’s hard to write a review when you realize the writing style isn’t for you. But the book was interesting enough to keep my intrigued enough to finish it, but the style of writing makes it so that I don’t care to pick up the next one. The book moved so fast through time that you don’t get to know the characters at all really. The beginning with all the latents was the best part, but then time started to speed up and the other latents start to become less and less characters and it just seemed more like a how you write a 90 page book versus a 300 page book 1 of a trilogy. It had a lot to give but fizzled out with the fast timelines and lack of character building.

Another amazing RH !
This is a great continuation in the world built in Feral Academy & Frosthaven with returning characters in Europe creating their latent program. I loved them in the other books and hoped they would have their own stories, but if you haven’t read them you won’t be lost in this new trilogy. The new characters don’t disappoint, they’re intriguing, engaging, and tug you into their adventure immediately. I especially loved the FMC and her adaptation and responses to the hierarchy of aristocratic wolves. I can’t wait to read the next book!

I would have given this book five stars, but one huge thing really bothered me: Jessica had NO reaction to finding out her mates have known about the mate bond all along and completed it without ever asking for her consent!
They literally explain the mating bond AFTER the shenanigans, and she finds out she’s suddenly bound to these MFs for life!
Jessica’s reaction: 👁️👁️ “oh…” 😛
(Followed by endless inner monologue about their pull, the feeling of them under her skin, yada yada yada).
Normally this might fly in a dark romance, but here? It just felt absurd.

The book got exponentially jumpier at about 70%. Suddenly, vital or important scenes were skipped and given a lackluster mention in the next chapter. The relationship with one of her mates also exploded out of nowhere at 90%, and it felt like the author was just trying to shove too much story into too few chapters. I did like the storyline and characters until the sudden rush, so I will likely try reading the next book. I do hope the rest of the series has better pacing and far more detail given to the shifter world.

THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD!! It’s 2am, I’ve gotta be up at 5am, but I genuinely could not put this book down. I haven’t read or finished a book in so long because of life, but I am so glad that I decided to pick up this book. I literally have so many highlights almost on every page because it had me squealing and hooked from the beginning. I am having a hard time deciding to just pull an all-nighter just so I can pick up the second book in the series. THIS is the feeling that I have missed so much!!

Excellent!
In the same world as her Frosthaven books, a couple of the characters have been there and talk about it.
Love this story - it follows a young woman who is sent to an academy for wolf shifters. Very good storyline and plot. I only wish it were longer!

Pretty middle of the road read. Would have been better if the timeline didn’t jump forward constantly with no warning. I was constantly playing catch up just trying to figure out where in the year she was. Romance was strange, it started out nicely, then disappeared, then went from zero to 100 in a rather abrupt way.

I like the general plot. But there are several issues. Time passes and it’s like Jessica learns exactly nothing. She never learns the protocols she keeps breaking. The instructors don’t teach her when she makes each new faux pas. And weeks and semesters pass with little plot development. I’m intrigued but it wasn’t great.

Need to go back to Frosthaven or maybe earlier and read. Why choose, fated mates, supernatural, academy romance. Quite enjoyable. Can’t wait to read book 2.

Great book
I've read the arctic bonds series so this is nice seeing Torres again and meeting a whole new group of shifters and a different world than the North American shifters inhabit. Love the way this author introduces you to characters you immediately relate to and get invested in.

Enjoyed it! Entertaining shifter college academy story. Appears that at least one character is a cross-over from prior series (which I haven't read), but reading them is not necessary to understand this plot. Looking forward to the sequel.

another absolute knockout
Should have spent all day reviewing for my MBA finals and instead I read this and I don’t even regret it even the tiniest littlest bit. So good. All of Jaye’s books are good - they have great side character and AMAZING voice. This one is no different.
