Spicy Ever After

Rate this book
Hattie Mercier hates wearing bras, waking up early, and Wednesday lunches with her cranky grandma. But her neurotypical family expects all of the above and more.

They are too normie to appreciate the magical hum of a sewing machine, the silky seduction of buttery carbs, or not-so-silent interior monologues.

As the only neurospicy member of the family, Hattie has always felt like she’s too big, too loud, and too much.

Beck Olivier has spent the last two years with the world on his shoulders. Between harvesting acres of sweet potatoes, keeping the family farm afloat, and caring for his dad, he barely has time for the passion project that might actually save them.

And zero time for a social life.

If she hadn’t been crying in that restaurant’s back alley, he might have stood a chance. But twenty minutes with the stunning, funny, and unfiltered Hattie, and Beck’s life may never be the same.

This book is so sweet, funny and endearing with a few delicious spicy scenes. I have recommended this book to everyone who will listen. This is a story about a beautiful, open and honest love story, mixed with a journey of self discovery.

The FMC, Hattie, is so direct and open in such a refreshing way. Her descriptions of things like excitement are so unique yet understandable and relatable. Chapter one seemed like too much info until I kept reading and better understood Hattie. By Chapter 4 I was in love with Hattie. I thoroughly enjoyed this story from the perspective of someone with autism.

This book explores family dynamics, over protective parents, ignorance, love, self love and much more. It also has a hot, patient, caring, hard working farmer so that’s a bonus.

I don’t give many 5 stars but this was a definite 5 star for me.

Love love love Hattie and Beck, he sees her, really sees her and accepts her little ways and Tisms, as the ND one growing up with neurotypical family I appreciate him .
I smiled so much reading this story , the characters leapt of the page and in to my heart. A heart that broke for them when they had to be apart, especially Beck not knowing where she was or why she left.
I haven’t read any thing by Stephanie before but she’s on my follow list now, we all need more feel good stuff like this

Heck, yes, it’s a 5 star book

As an extensive reader of romance novels, books like Spicy Ever After are the reason rom coms will always be my go to genre. And let me tell you, there is romance and comedy abound. You will swoon and you will laugh (possibly at the same time). And if that’s not enough to sway you, how about a book that shows love isn’t an exclusive club. It is for anyone willing to accept it. This is a *real* love story.

* 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 stars *

With a title with the word “spicy” in it, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but did expect a lot of romantic spice. Yes, this was here, but Spicy Ever After was about so much more.

Anyone who is neurodiverse will know the terminology of “neurospicy” and Stephanie Fournet has used this, and the sexy bits, to bring a story of deep love, growing up and the challenges of being neurodiverse. Never judge a book by its cover… or title!

Spicy Ever After is a duel pov open door romantic comedy, with Hattie, a high functioning autistic woman, trying to find her way in life and a chance encounter with Beck, a local sweet potato farmer. After she is triggered enormously, by her less than understanding grandmother and mother, Hattie’s escape into the back alley of a restaurant in tears, brings her in front of Beck who is instantly in love with this breath of fresh air. This begins a whirlwind romance, where Hattie begins to learn more about life, love, and both without the watchful eyes of her over protective parents.

I’ll be honest, I found this a very difficult read. As someone with late diagnosed ADHD and struggling with personal acceptance of this, but also as a single woman feeling alone, the way that Beck effortlessly accepts Hattie, makes her feel loved, wanted and understood hit really hard. Fournet has managed to bring the deep desires that anyone wants, but even more so for someone who is neurodiverse to the forefront. He takes the time to know her, to take their time and be flexible in how Hattie sees and approaches the world. And he does it with such a deep love, it takes your breath away. Their chemistry and attraction is off the charts, shown in his love of her voluptuous body and how beautiful he regularly says she is. We get the sense he is a typical hot, abs wielding farmer and again, it evoked difficult personal feelings of wanting that deep attraction, particularly as a curvy woman finding “typical” men attractive.

At the beginning, I found it hard to read about Hattie. The point is that she has been over-protected her whole life and has some maturing to do and understanding of the world to learn and this took a bit of time to fully understand and know that this was a big part of her growth and arc with Beck. As also quite sexually inexperienced, the virgin trope is usually not something I would read but the sensitivity with which this was handled, and how gentlemanly that Beck is with her is adorable and you can’t help but fall in love with them.

It is quite strongly insta-love - Beck is very complimentary, open about his feelings, both to Hattie and to us as the reader, and it does make you sigh at how unobtainable such a man would be, particularly for those who are neurospicy. But the story is cute enough that you just accept this is the way of it and learn to love that this is the approach that has been taken.

Spicy Ever After isn’t something that I would have usually picked up, with insta love and virgin tropes, but I am glad I got the opportunity. It was a difficult read personally, and broke me a little, with evenings reading through eyes misted by tears, of a life that I wish I could have as a neurodiverse woman. But it gave me some hope that maybe by reading it, I could perhaps manifest my own Beck.

Absolutely PHENOMENAL autistic representation of a young adult woman that has “high functioning autism”, but her (mostly) well meaning family treats her like a young child. Presuming competence is a concept they can’t seem to fathom. Beck, the precious sweet potato farmer, is a true angel. Truly, the world needs more people like him. Love the characters and all of their development…except Grandma Eloise. She’s absolutely AWFUL.

The scene building is incredible, and as someone from the Acadiana area, I truly felt like I was immersed in the story. I read it in one day because I couldn’t put it down!

I've been reading Fournet books for years now and she continues to spin more glorious but grounded stories of modern love. Her characters encounter real-life challenges, and this book is no exception. In this story, she handled autism spectrum disorder and ADHD with sensitivity, knowledge, and empowerment. I call this "intelligent romance" because the characters are nuanced, face relevant challenges, and are distinct from the other characters she has crafted in her story-telling career. She continues to grow as a writer, not only entertaining us along the way, but also allowing us clear pictures of people facing real-world problems, all with a loving lens.

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶

I loved this book SO much more than I at first thought I was going to.

I am always looking for books with an Autism rep, and so when I read this book description and saw the fmc was on the spectrum AND the mmc works on a farm, I was immediately sold.

But as soon as I started reading I quickly noticed that I might have some trouble reading this. Not because of bad writing, because it was written very, very well. So well in fact that Hattie’s family made my own anxiety rise.

I hated them. (Aside from her sister, she was mostly okay)

Beck’s family on the other hand was amazing!! I LOVED them so much, especially his dad.

I had gone into this book expecting a cute, quick romance, which it was, it was SO cute (except for her family) and because of Hattie’s descriptions it was also quite intense in some places, but it was also SO much more than ‘just’ a romance.

It talked about self development, relationships and how to communicate. There is also a lot of talk about finding your way in life with an autism diagnosis and that was something that really hit close to home, because I also have the same struggles. So while parts were confrontational, they also made me see that there really is something for everyone.

Hattie and Beck have engraved a place in my heart, and I don’t think they’ll be leaving any time soon.

This book holds a special place in my heart.
I’m from Lafayette, so it was awesome reading about my hometown. Knowing key places like Twins, Moncus, Pouparts- it felt very close to home.
I loved Hattie. I loved seeing life through her eyes and walking in her shoes. As someone who has a “neurospicy” mind, it was so beautiful.
Beck is everything. His family is awesome, excluding Paul, but he is the perfect MMC.
Their relationship is so beautiful and pure and I loved how Beck loves and sees her, he understands her-even when she felt unseen her entire life

Hattie is so charming that I instantly got drawn into this story. The author does such a great job of helping the reader understand her neurodivergent experience without infantilizing her. Nuanced characters that make the story feel very real. This was a quick read but I really enjoyed it and I hope we get the next story of Hattie and Beck soon! Maybe my favorite Stephanie Fournet

This story was such a joy! Hattie was funny and wise, with a competence arc that was wonderful to watch, and Beck was such a sweet, gentle man who was perfect for her. I loved the representation and support for neurodiverse communities. The writing was absolutely delightful, making me want to go back and reread immediately!

I loved reading this spicy story based in my home town. Was very hard to get up for work, 😂 Because I wanted more. Grabs from the start. Characters are very relatable. Having a “tism” character added to the appeal of the story line.

I absolutely ADORED this book. Received as an ARC through BookSirens, and the story of Hattie was so, so precious to me. Being neurodivergent myself, I felt like I resonated with some of her story. I really liked how patient and absolutely heartwarming Beck was with her. I will definitely be looking for other books from this author and I'm really glad I had the opportunity to read it.

Hattie Mercier is funny, unfiltered, neurodivergent, and determined to build an independent life for herself. Beck Olivier is a hardworking farmer carrying the weight of his family on his shoulders. When these two meet, their connection is unexpected, but absolutely wonderful.

I LOVED this book! Hattie and Beck are honestly one of my favorite couples I've read in a while. Hattie is such a fantastic character… I loved her honesty, independence, and determination to figure out what she wants for herself. And Beck? AMAZING. He is sweet, hardworking, supportive, and loves Hattie exactly as she is while trying to hold his family and farm together.

I especially loved how Stephanie Fournet brings readers inside Hattie's perspective and helps show what her neurodivergent experience can feel like. The family dynamics on both sides added so much depth to the story, too.
This was sweet, funny, emotional, and steamy, with so much heart. I ended up listening for most of the morning because I needed to know how it ended! And that ending was absolutely satisfying.

I always love dual narration, so I was happy this audio book used two narrators. Olivia Rose and Jack Jannink did a solid job bringing Hattie and Beck to life.

This was just the perfect feel-good romance for me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Balance: an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.

It's the word that comes to this Reader's mind upon finishing this delightful read.

Author balances beautifully the two leads' voices.

Viewed individually, the characters are well developed. Hattie's 'more than' her neurodivergent self that her hateful grandmother, well meaning sister and overprotective (and at times, dismissive) parents see. She's creative with the needle and speaks her truth. Her counterpart, Beck, is 'more than' the farm boy who's making a valiant effort to shoulder his family's financial woes. He's steadfast and 'sees' Hattie. Then these two interact and it's magic.

The plot was evenly paced out. Their relationship builds alongside the events that brought these two together in the first place. Then a moment occurs where both Hattie and Beck's relationship is tested. How the Author draws this out was exquisitely written. Readers will feel that these two balance one another. To see how, you'll have to read it….

Readers of Ali Hazelwood and Chloe Liese will enjoy this read.

This was a very lovely story. I really loved the characters and their relationship. I loved that Beck always Saw Hattie, and that Hattie was able to be an authentic version of herself around Beck. I always enjoy neurodivergent representation, and I liked the bit of a twist where Hattie’s perceived obstacles weren’t fully what held her back as the obstacle. That it was actually a mask of something going on below the surface. That being said, I’m still processing the apex of the conflict with her parents weeks later, and I’m just not sure if I’m ok with some actions taken by characters, even though Hattie made peace with it. It’s a bit of a “did the ends justify the means” type of a situation, and I’m not sure that the message of the story held firm through the final unfolding. It felt muddled.

Thank you Stephanie Fournet and BookSirens for sending this book for my review consideration. All opinions expressed above are my own.

Yes! Stephanie Fournet did it again. The representation that is consistently done is something that I rarely see and am so happy to read in a book. To read Hattie's character and her transition through a real relationship with Beck; all the struggles that may happen in her head and in her life but also in the dual POV of how they affect Beck.
The author does such a great job of helping the reader understand her neurodivergent experience without infantilizing her. This was a quick read but I really enjoyed diving into it. (Also really loved Hattie referring to people that arent like her as "normies")

Anyone expecting this book to be just spicy because the title says "spicy" in it, you will be in for a nuerotypical spicy ride, and the sexy bits ... they do bring an edge to the story of deep love, growing up and the challenges of being neurodiverse.
Never judge a book by its cover... or title!

Spicy Ever After was an enjoyable, quick read, but it didn't quite sweep me off my feet the way I hoped it would. On the positive side, Stephanie Fournet’s writing is lovely, and the chemistry between the main characters was definitely there. I appreciated the mature communication between them, which is always refreshing to find in a romance.

However, the pacing felt a bit uneven for me. While the setup was great, the conflict felt a little low-stakes, and the resolution wrapped up a bit too quickly and easily. It’s a perfectly nice, cozy contemporary romance, but it lacked the extra spark or emotional depth needed to make it truly memorable for me.

This book is honestly such a wonderful one to have read. I read this as an ARC and I cannot fault it. As a late diagnosed AuDHDer, I commend the author @Stephanie Fournet for how well she had portrayed Hattie, a 23 year old neurospicy woman navigating dating, love, setting boundaries and independence. I have loved everything about this book. Beck was such a wonderful male character and it was so refreshing to see someone so accepting immediately of Hattie. I will be ordering a hard copy as soon as it is available to add to my library of books! 😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰 THIS IS A MUST READ! #spicyeverafter #MustRead #audhd #neurospicy #neurodivergentrepresentation

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author for my true and honest opinion.

As a neurospicy woman and mother of two neurodivergent children myself I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's every woman's dream of finding the love and understanding that Hattie finds in Beck. I felt so much emotion while reading this book. Between the anger that Hattie's family made me feel, and the inclusive loving feelings Beck's family gave me, it was a ride. Highly recommended.

This book is hands down a 5 star no 10 star book. Hattie and Beck complete each other. Beck finds Hattie right when she needs someone, anyone to just let her be herself. He doesn't rush her to do anything and loves her exactly how she is. I couldn't read this book fast enough and I am now looking up more books by this author.

Hattie is a character you want to get to know. She is not your typical girl looking to find love. But she finds it in the place least expected.
