Cranky 1: This is actually difficult to write spoiler free and without becoming sort of gushing fan-girls. Yessi Smith is one of my favourite writers and I’m so glad I discovered her works. Cranky 2: Right? I discovered Yessi through a friend and was hooked.
1. Dee and Hayley have an unbreakable bond. Hayley has always been Dee's rock. How did you feel about the roll reversal?
Cranky 1: I think the roll reversal was realistic. That’s what best friends do. Sometimes, they need you and sometimes, you need them. I’d be lost without my best friends. Cranky 2: I love how the girls are with each other. They use a lot of humor to counteract the sadness. I think this friendship can make it through anything. True BFF'S in every sense.
Cranky 1: Exactly, I think humour is essential in any relationship. It gets you through the tough times and sometimes it’s easier to reveal truths that way than any other. Cranky 2: I completely agree. I have BFF’s like this and wouldn’t trade them for anything!
2) What did you think of Max?
Cranky 1: I have very few book boyfriends, but I think Max might be one. I really liked him: his sense of decency and nobility, even though he made me so mad! Cranky 2: I actually threw my reader and screamed ‘noooooooooo’ at one point. Max has my heart. Through all his faults; his biggest one is loving Hayley too much. I find no fault in that Cranky 1: You know what? Sometimes people do dumb things for the right reasons, even though they make you want to knock some sense into them! In truth, I actually appreciate characters like this in books. I prefer them to the guy that supposedly has all the answers and knows everything. Cranky 2 : it sure makes the characters more relatable. Yessi Smith has a way of writing characters that you can't help but fall in love with. Cranky 1: She does. You feel like you could meet the characters and they exist out there in the real world. Cranky 2 : Yes! And you would become instant friends.
3. I know we’ve discussed Hayley and Dee, but I also enjoyed the friendship between Max and Adam too. What did you think?
Cranky 1: I thought it added depth to the story, even though the story is very layered. I enjoy seeing friendships in stories, in particular male friendships. Cranky 2: Adam (swoon) steps up to the plate and solidifies his friendship with Max (double swoon) by helping him out of a jam. I love the no holds barred effect Adam has with Max. Cranky 1: Yes, and also, quite often men compete with one another for the heroine in stories. I like that this was actually about friendship without the other factors. Cranky 2: I completely agree. No sizing up, just straight bromance.
4. The book had so many great scenes, which was your favourite?
Cranky 1: Josie being a parrot, the hospital scene, and bridesmaid duties. Lol! Cranky 2: The text messages leading up to the book signing, and bridesmaid duties. Lol!
5. How many stars?
Cranky 1: Five stars from me – easy. Cranky 2: Me too.
And that’s five stars from the cranksters! We highly recommend this book.
Once again Yessi Smith graces us with Dee, Adam, Hayley and Max and boy did I miss them. We know from Love Always that Adam and Dee finally put their demons to rest and submit to the unconditional love they have for each other and Josie their beautiful daughter. But what about Max and Hayley??? Well, here's their story in all its wonderfully tragic detail.
Quote: If you love someone, you don’t burden her with your past. No, you spare her from it, even if it breaks her heart in the process.
Max has been haunted by his past for years. As soon as he allows himself to start healing and enjoying life again his past rears its ugly head again and threatens everything he holds dear.
Quote: Pack your bags, hoebag and shave your twat. I’m not Adam and I’m not cuddling with any ewoks this weekend.
Hayley's humor shines through. I laughed so hard at her conversations with Dee my sides hurt. They have a friendship that can make it through anything and it gets tested daily.
Hayley is an amazing friend and loves with her whole heart. If she let's you in there's no getting out of it. Her strength and devotion helped Dee and Adam in book one and now she hopes to be strong enough to help Max.
Quote: but there’s a distance between us that neither one of us knows to how close.
How do you cope with a loss so great that it turns you into a shell of yourself? How to you deal with the pain of hurting those that you hold closest to your heart?
I laughed and cried while reading this book. I got so angry at one point i scared my dogs when i threw my e-reader across the bed. Those who have read Yessi's work know how much she enjoys pulling every emotion from her readers.
If you've read Love Always than you need to one-click this today. If you haven't than I suggest you drop everything and one-click both Love Always and New Forever as these are definitely a must read.
Yessi Smith has quickly become one of my favorite authors, due to her emotional, grab at your heart stories, and I absolutely love them. New Forever is an interconnected story to Love, Always, but can also be read as a stand-alone. I would suggest reading Love, Always if you haven’t already; it’s an inspiring story of love, loss, and finding your way back.
Max has had a rough go at life, and when he meets and falls in love with Hayley, he thinks he’s found his forever. She’s a little spit fire, and matches him with sass and an overall life experience that would bring any person to their knees. It seems they’re a match made in Heaven, brought on by the hell they’ve endured. When Max realizes his past has come back to rear it’s ugly head in his present, he pushes Hayley away, which leads to some crazy events and heart breaking discoveries.
Can Hayley accept what she learns about Max? Can they move forward and let the past stay in the past? I have a deep love for these two characters, and this story is extremely emotional and inspirational to me, and shows how forgiveness and acceptance can bring a new light to your life and the people in it. Let’s not forget the hilarious situations Hayley brings with her. She’s a freaking riot, and I’ve deemed her my new book bestie, let alone the fact that Max has my heart and I will hash tag that to the ends of the earth! #HandsOffKellysMax
New Forever is a stand-alone book that follows Max and Hayley characters we met in Love, Always. Let me say the author Yessi Smith has done it again. Ms. Smith gives readers two remarkable, caring and loving characters. She writes a story that will tug at your heart strings and make you fall in love with all the while will be asking yourself “are they real?” New Forever is told in alternate POV’s. Max and Hayley have both suffered from a troubled pasts. Both have dealt with depression and continue to fight but despite it all, they have found a love with each other that can with stand all.
Just when Max is happy and is settled in life with Hayley his past catches up with him. Max loves Hayley and he only wants to make her happy. When he learns the truth about their paths he makes a decision to save her from the trauma of learning about how their paths are entwined. Max’s character is one that you will fall in love with. He is honorable, caring and will sacrifice his own safety and sanity to protect Hayley. My heart broke for him. He goes through some pretty terrible things in this book and it really got to me.
“Telling me I’m beautiful, even when I’m on the rag, without any make up on, wearing sweatpants and my hair’s up in a messy bun. Letting me eat your fries or when you put a game on pause so I can tell you a funny story. Your most romantic gestures can’t be bought, but you five them nonetheless. That’s what makes me feel like the most special girl in your life.”
“Hey baby, I’d do anything in the world for you. I like doing this, surprising you with something you’ve never experienced. I love you watching your face light up. It’s like you fall in love with me all over again. It’s the best damn feeling in the world.”
I loved Hayley so much in the first book and after reading this one, I love her even more. She is bubbly, expressive, hilarious, eccentric, and is in love with Max. When Max breaks her heart she deals with things the only way she knows how and that is hiding behind her mask by joking around. She has learned to deal with her traumatic past but with her break up with Max, she starts to question everything she has accomplished. One thing about Hayley is that she is a fighter. She loves him and knows he is her soul mate so she is willing to fight for their love after Max walks away.
I really connected with Hayley and Dee. They are some of my favorite female characters. They are crazy friends and together they are unstoppable. I love the easy going relationship they had, and how they confided in one another.
“Max is the type of guy I’d make a sandwich for.”
“Is that your demented way of saying he’s a keeper?”
“It’s not demented. It shows a level of commitment. If you’re willing to make him a sandwich, then you’re willing to do just about anything for the guy. Simple science”
“Science?”
“Don’t question my wisdom, just accept it as fact.”
“Whatever, Yoda.”
Max is self-sacrificing, loving and loyal and because of that trait he makes a snap decision that I wanted to shake him for. He sacrifices so much because he thinks it is right thing to do. Max and Hayley will have to fight their demons and their pasts so they can be free to live and love one another.
As in the first book, the author deals with issues that are common yet uncomfortable for many readers. Depression, violence, homelessness, hunger and suicide are real life issues and I love the way she tackles these issues with grace and delicacy. The characters are relatable and because of these issues we get a glimpse of how people in the real world suffer and deal with these topics. There was never a part in the story that I lost focus or became bored with their story line. If anything I could not put down this book. I wanted to see how things would turn of for Max and Hayley. We get to see Dee, Adam and of course little Josie and how they are doing in their lives. New Forever is a story that will show the many ways that true love can strengthen when faced with adversity. There are some LOL moments in this story too We get a glimpse into the next book and the characters as well and I can’t wait until I can get my hands on that.
It's no secret that Yessi Smith is one of my 'go-to-never-fails-to-deliver' writers and her new work, New Forever, does it again.
New Forever is a standalone work, but interconnected with Smith's wonderful, Love, Always. We first meet Max and Hayley in Love, Always, and there starts an unusual romance, in an unusual place between two unique characters.
Both come from troubled pasts, fighting their own demons, but connect in a way that transcends all barriers.
Max, haunted by a past he cannot escape, vests his hope for love and happiness with Hayley. He begins to see himself through her eyes, but when new information comes to light, Max makes an honourable decision, setting in motion events leading to heartbreak.
Hayley: effervescent, gregarious, funny, quirky, and longing for love, her personality masks the deep pain underneath. Suffering a tragic loss that she has yet to recover from, Max's noble decision, shakes Hayley's fledgling happiness.
I have long admired Yessi Smith's ability to take on uncomfortable subjects, written through the eyes of characters that are a little outside the mainstream, to give people a window into areas they might not go. This work is no different: Smith covers topics such as homelessness, criminality, and mental illness, and love, deep, deep love, with her characteristic honesty and wit. You cheer for these characters, willing them to make it against all odds, sharing their joys and heartbreak.
Hayley is one of my favourite female characters of all time. If you've ever had a crazy friend (or are the crazy friend), you'll relate to Hayley. She is a spit fire, mischief maker, but with hidden depths, and is stronger than even she realises.
And Max: so noble and decent that sometimes I wanted to slap him upside the head! Repeatedly.
The secondary characters in this story: Dee and Adam (their story is covered in Love, Always) were a wonderful inclusion in this story. We revisited old friends, but made new ones.
Favourite scenes: the hospital and bridesmaid duties. If you're going out with Hayley, beware!
Yessi Smith... you have melted my heart yet again. New Forever, the story of Hayley and Max, is one that will remain in my heart for a long time. Their pasts and current struggles are like none I expected. I had no idea tears I would shed when reading, or the laughter I would have.
Max and Hayley are two who have conquered their pasts, or have they? When their pasts just seem to catch up with their present, it takes a lot of will power on both their parts to overcome what they're most frightened of. Their futures.
I adored Hayley. She's strong, fierce, loyal & beyond hilarious. Her wit and quick humor had me in stitches so many times. Max is sexy and smart and so generous in his love for Hayley. He will do anything for her, absolutely anything. He's so stinkin' perfect you almost want to scream for him to be bad! This isn't in a bad way - I loved Max, don't get me wrong. It's just that he is living with such extreme misguided guilt that my heart ached for him.
Yessi's writing grips me from start to finish. I loved every bit of New Forever and while it is a standalone, I absolutely recommend reading Love, Always first. It will only enhance the absolute enjoyment of New Forever!
Thanks, Yessi, for sharing Max and Hayley's story with us - for writing a story full of heart ache, happiness, humor and love. Five fabulous stars, once again.
What didn't work for me is how the relationship between Max and Hayley was already there....there wasn't a build up. I did not read the first book which could be the reason? The book started with their break up and I wasn't affected by it because I didn't even get to know the characters yet! It was mentioned that their relationship became strained and different after the 'big' reveal but how are we suppose to know how strained or different it is when we don't even know what is considered an everyday/normal relationship between them. Also, the characters always have inner babbles filled with lots of wisdom about life that takes up basically 1/3 of the book.
New Forever by Yessi Smith Genre: New Adult Release Date: March 22,2015 Print Length: 218 pages Format: Kindle eARC Via tour host Overall Rating: 4 Stars **Interconnected standalone for Love, Always**
I have finally been reunited with my old friends!! I totally missed Haley, Max, Dee and Adam. I adore Yessi Smith her books are beautifully written and her characters are unforgettable. This book is stated as being an interconnected standalone to Love, Always but in my opinion you really do need to read Love, Always first. I feel like with how this book started off it leaves a few to many holes and I for one think I would have a little trouble connecting at times had I not read Love, Always. So yeah just read both, they both are fantastic.
We first meet Haley and Max in Love, Always and I immediately was drawn to both of their characters. They both have things in their pasts that have haunt them deeply but the love they have for each other helps them through.
“This man, this strange, wonderful man will definitely be my undoing. I feel my heart expand until I’m sure it will explode but somehow it manages to grow even larger.”
When a secret from Max’s past surfaces he is sure that she could never forgive him. How could she when he can’t even forgive himself? So he does what he thinks is best for her, always putting her first. He would do anything for her but is letting go the right thing to do?
I let Haley go, not because I wanted to, but because I had to. I was only put into her life for a fleeting moment-a small memory that I will take with me into the darkness.”
I really love Hayley she is such a strong character. She is witty, kind and loves with her whole heart. The kind of friend you want in your corner. Oh and she is hilarious, I swear the banter in this book between all the characters was fantastic. Max is amazing, he is smart and sexy and loves Hayley something fierce. I did think that he made some shitty choices when he was trying to protect his secret, but he was doing what he thought was best for Hayley. I don’t agree but hey who am I to judge? He loved her with all he had and he was genuinely a good person. I am so glad we got to see so much of Dee and Adam in this book as well. I love them and they played such a huge part in this book. The friendships they shared were amazing. I swear some of the parts with Hayley and Dee had me laughing out loud. We also got to see a stronger connection and growth with Max and Adam’s friendship. Truly fantastic characters I loved them and connected with them all.
“ Sometimes we carry a burden, a guilt, that never belonged to us in the first place.”
Another fantastic read by Yessi Smith! Oh and Haley and Dee got to meet L.A. Casey?! I’m so jealous! Bitches! ;)
Ok, right off the bat I want to say that since first reading Love, Always last year, Yessi Smith has been a sure fire go to author for me because when it come so putting emotion on a page she is up there with the best in the business. In this New Forever we get Hayley’s story and while it is a standalone novel, you may find that it is a good idea to read Love, Always because the stories sort of run in tandem. Hayley is a complete firecracker who has little cause for convention and whose life is a colourful as she is. I adored the fact that she was completely unique, full of life and the sort of person that makes the world just glow around her. I felt for her in such a way that I wanted her to be happy and was almost obliged to read with my fingers crossed. Hayley was tied up with Max and their story was so fantastic that I think it will stay with me for a long time, I was so caught in their story that I felt at times as if I could physically hear my heart breaking. They experienced such pain that I could feel it seeping into my soul and the further I read the more I longed for the two of them to begin to heal and for their lives to start to turn the corner that I was hanging out for. The connection that they shared was not only painful for them but as a reader I found it painful to read but I understood that in order to fight the light that they were fighting for they had to travel through the darkness first. It is that journey that touched me so much, and it is the quality of the storytelling that will blow your socks off because Yessi Smith has again done what she does best – knocked it out of the ball park! Jam packed with every emotion possible, New Forever will take you on an incredible journey with some truly remarkable characters and will show you what it takes to find the real you, the one that you know you are on the inside but that life and hardship tries its best to keep hidden, a quest to accept the real you that the world deserves to see and that given the time and support that you can unleash. Unconditionally and unapologetically intense, this will beat you along the way but Max and Hayley will sooth your soul by the time it comes to say goodbye. I have no doubt that Yessi Smith has much more to give and I hope that we get some more of her amazing characters in the not too distant future because this emotionally astute author is carving a niche for herself that few other are able to compete with.
New Forever is Hayley’s story. This book was everything I’d imagined Hayley to be and then some. This book is vibrant, colorful, hilarious, awkward, quirky, and touching. Hayley was every bit the fireball that lives her life unapologetically I had pictured in my mind. She made me laugh and care and hurt. Max and Hayley, two twisted and scarred characters, made for a journey that was breathtaking and memorable, breaking my heart and putting it back together again.
I knew from the moment we met Hayley and Max in Love, Always that their story would be incredibly special. They both carried pain and heartache that threatened to crush them and yet continued to fight for the light. I connected with them and felt for them. The journey Yessi Smith takes us on in New Forever is stunning. It’s not pretty or perfect and things are definitely messy, but it’s genuine and in that there is so much beauty. Both characters transformed over the course of this story, revealing a depth and tangibility that allowed them both to shine.
New Forever is just as packed with emotion as I’d expected. The startling truths that come to light in this book evoke intense and conflicting emotions that hit unexpectedly during Max and Hayley’s journey. Yessi Smith wrote every feeling with a simplicity and honesty that had my heart aching for this couple. The relationships between all of the characters are raw and real, filled with harsh truths, uncomfortable disagreements, and unconditional love. Yessi Smith has written a true gem with New Forever and I hope this isn’t the last we’ll see of this amazing family.
You have found her. Your girl. Your future. You adore her. You love her. She’s your everything.
Two years. Two years of laughs shared. Love shared. Problems solved.
But this……This will never be fixed. One picture. One memory. One devastating outcome.
The pain you feel is excruciating. It’s unbearable. The guilt is consuming you. You can’t stay. Your responsible. Your to blame. Staying will crush her. Staying will make her hate you.
You do the only thing you can. You walk away. No reason given. You have to. It’s her you have to protect.
But what if that one decision was the wrong one? What if breaking her heart to protect her was the wrong path to take? What if walking away from her was a mistake?
Welcome to Max and Hayley’s world.
A world full of pain and hurt. A world full of guilt and grief. A world full of secrets and despair. A world of hope and forgiveness. A world of love.
New Forever is one of our best reads for 2015. We were gripped from the very beginning. Written with such depth and emotion, you could feel it through the pages. We laughed. We cried. We were stunned. We held our breath. We were absolutely blown away.
New Forever should be on everyone’s TBR list. A novel that explores some hard and raw topics. A novel that takes you on a journey of healing. It’s simply a novel not to be missed. For us a definite 5 star read.
I was happy to find out that Hayley and Max were getting their own story. I loved them in Love, Always. Hayley was such a character that she helped lift the story to make a light when it would have been a tad dark.
That said, I wasn't as pulled in to the story as I had hoped. The characters were still good and Hayley still stayed as strong as she was when she was first introduced as Dee's new best friend but the story that connected them wasn't what envisioned.
Don't get me wrong, it did a great job of explaining why Max was... Max. He always seemed sad and was so quiet but I think the story line could have been a bit stronger. I did give us a connection between Hayley and Max but just didn't push me to want more. :(
Hayley was an amazing character. Strong, independent and determined to live and enjoy life with the people that mattered to her. She also showed that she had the most forgiving heart imaginable. She was a true heroine in my book.
Max; however, wasn't as strong as I'd hoped. He was without a doubt hopelessly in love with Hayley and eventually, he let that love outweigh the misery he'd been putting himself through for so long.
When all is said and done. Overall, it was a good story and a quick read. I'd recommend it for a time when you're needing to get over a book hangover and need something light to read.
*a copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
In Love, Always we meet Hayley and Max who deserved their own story and the author gave us their story. Their relationship is going great then Max discovers something more from his past that has haunted for years. In fact this was the reason he left home and lived in the streets prior to meeting Hayley. He found happiness with her and did everything to make her happy. She was his happiness and he loved her. So the decision to leave her was not easy but he wanted to protect her and feels that when she discovers this secret from his past it will destroy her. He would rather hurt her than destroy her so he makes that difficult decision to leave. Hayley is hurt but decides to have a girls weekend with her BFF. I so loved the mix of the fun and laughter to the heartbreak of Max’s chapters. Hayley’s POV’s were fun and filled with laughter and mayhem along with some tears, but Max’s POV’s had the angst and frustration over what he was doing. It was just the right amount of blending of the POV’s. I also loved that I was not able to guess character reactions so between the laugher and angst there was also surprises. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
Once again Yessi has wrote another fabulous book that you can not put down. I was intrigued with Haley and Max from Love, Always and I'm glad that I finally got to read their story and see what was going on with them. I also loved the fact that I found out more about Dee, Adam and baby Josie. This was the story that no matter what happened you were always rooting for the couple to work out, Haley was the person that always believed in the fact that she finally had the sun in her life and the sun was Max. Max fought with guilt that was never his to struggle with in the first place. To see the way that no matter what Max did Haley was always fighting Max at every turn and than to finally see their HEA was the best ever. This story kept me intrigued from the beginning until the end and I hated for it to end.
Firstly I'd like to say I LOVE Yessi Smith. Her books never disappoint me, they have just the right amount of funny, emotional, angst and Love in there. So New Forever is Hayley and Max's story. We first meet Hayley and Max in Love Always. They got together when both were on a psychiatric ward along with Dee. They all quickly became best friends as well as Adam (Dee's soon to be husband) Hayley and Max have had a lot of hurt In their lives both for very different reasons which actually end up to be the same reason. You travel with them while they try and outrun their demons. Max pushes Hayley away when his Demons which he thought he'd outrun catch up with him, knocking him down and he is struggling to get back up. New Forever takes you on such a rollercoaster ride of emotions, Yessi has done a fantastic job on this book and truly is an amazing writer! ~Lisa
We meet Max and Hayley. They were together but they're not anymore. Max had to leave to protect her from his past. Hayley just wanted Max. This is an unusual love story. They were in love the whole time. They never really were apart, so it was almost like a continuation of a story. But it didn't FEEL like a continuation. It felt like a beginning. Much like Janus the three legged beast, this story is a new beginning. It was a beautiful story, told in dueling POV between Hayley and Max. Both broken, guilt ridden individuals who love each other so desperately and sweetly that all else falls by the wayside. They each put themself aside for the other, because that's what love does. That's what love is. Max embodies this. Hayley embraces this.
Simply put, this is an amazingly beautiful story. It's definitely worth the read.
I really love Yessi and her writing. This book was everything and more.
Max is living with a secret. A secret that could and would in his mind, tear him away from his girlfriend of two years - Hayley. So he leaves. No explanation. No real reason in Hayley's mind. She thought they were in love... at least she was. Wasn't he?
Max leaving didn't stop the demons raging inside of him and he ends up in more pain than he ever thought - leaving the love of your life is not easy.
Max returns, ready to tell Hayley everything and ready to have her kick him to curve once she knows everything...but the opposite happens. Forgiveness. Unconditional love.
This story is about second chances, true love and finding your new forever.
I recieved this for an honest review.. I have to say I fell in love with Yessi as an author with Love Always and I am so glad I got to read on in this series of standalones. I just fell in love with Max and Hayley's story (we meet them for like a minute in love always). Max leaves Hayley thinking he is doing the best for Hayley and finding out he is only hurting her more by this action. I really enjoyed this book because you see how they work to make it back from the hurt that Max causes. It shows a lot of reality in this book. As we all know LOVE takes work and this is what they do in this book.. such an enjoyable read....
Max has a secret that he has been living with for the past 5 years...and now that secret is threatening the one good thing in his life...Hayley. Once she finds out his secret, she will never want to see him again. So he decides to cut the inevitable off at the pass and leaves.
Hayley has no clue what just happened. Max has been the best thing to happened to her and the past two years have been nothing but the best. So why did he leave? What did she do?
When the secrets start to unravel, the meaning of unconditional love is put to the ultimate test.
A beautiful and amazing journey about love, forgiveness and second chances.
New Forever is Max and Haley’s story, which can be read as a standalone, but I think helps to read Love, Always first. This is such an emotion read. Max and Haley have such a deep special love that is rare. They have such painful past that intertwine in ways that could destroy them but makes them stronger in the long run. I love this book and highly recommend it!
Brew Forever was another solid book by Yesssi Smith. The storyline was great and well thought out. The characters once again had depth, emotion and chemistry. Love that we got to see Max and Haley together in a more intimate book featuring them as the main characters.
