Little Fire

Rate this book
I broke out of prison with one name carved into my skull-my brothers. Revenge is the only thing keeping my heart beating, the only promise I haven’t broken.

Then I take her.

She’s at the wrong place, the wrong time, soft where I’m sharp, breathing when I’m barely alive. I tell myself she’s leverage. A shield. A mistake I’ll fix once the blood is paid. But the moment I put my hands on her, something inside me snaps.

And it isn’t regret.

She becomes my obsession.

I watch the way fear turns into fire in her eyes, the way she fights me when she shouldn’t. I tell myself I’m not saving her. I’m not protecting her. I’m just claiming what’s already mine. Because monsters like me don’t get redemption. We take. We ruin. We burn.

And I would burn the world for her.

I know I’m unhinged. I know I’m dangerous. I know loving me is a death sentence. But my brother stole everything from me once, and I won’t let him take her too.

She thinks I kidnapped her.

But she has no idea I’m never letting her go.

This book is definitely one you should check the warning label for before diving in. But don’t get me wrong; it’s not that the book isn’t good—in fact, it’s quite the opposite. It’s an incredible read that really grabs your attention.

Madelyn has been living in a constant state of survival, desperately trying to evade her nightmare of a stepfather ever since her mother passed away. Almost immediately after her mother's death, her stepfather made it clear that he wanted to take control of her life, leaving Madelyn with little choice but to flee. That fateful night, he stripped away so much from her, and since then, she has been on the run, haunted by the trauma of her past.

Jackson is not a good man, yet he was wrongfully accused and spent five years in prison for crimes he did not commit. Intelligent and resourceful, he began plotting his escape the moment he entered the minimum-security facility. Driven by a thirst for revenge, he is determined to achieve his goals, armed and ready to confront those who wronged him.

Upon his escape, Jackson encounters a young woman who is also trying to flee her own traumatic past. Their connection is anything but conventional; both are deeply flawed individuals who have found solace in one another's company. However, it is crucial to understand that neither has healed the other; instead, they have merely adapted to each other's obsessions, creating a bond forged in shared pain rather than redemption.

Honestly, I won't sugarcoat it. The part about Stockholm Syndrome really opens your eyes, revealing the tough situations people deal with in reality.
This book is undeniably intense and offers a unique take on dark romance. I really liked its unique style; Miss Young crafted a tale that feels intense, brutal, obsessive, and emotionally overwhelming in the best way. However, I can't stress enough how crucial it is to check the trigger warnings in advance.

I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Jackson exhibits clear psychopathic traits, his brother's level of insanity is truly extraordinary. Proceed with caution, as the narrative delves into some deeply unsettling themes. - a whole other level of crazy…… You have been warned several TIMES

I’m excited to explore more works from this author in the future! Happy reading see you on the other side

ARC REVIEW

This book was like a punch in the gut.

It was crazy well-written, fast-paced, and had me on the edge of my seat. I devoured it. I LOVED IT!

The two main characters are basically trauma magnets. One is running from their past, while the other is running straight into it. They meet in a car crash, because why not? Madelyn is trying to escape her creepy stepdad, while Jackson just broke out of prison to get revenge for being wrongly accused. Madelyn hits Jackson with her car and tries to help him, but he kidnaps her instead. Nice guy. Will Madelyn become another notch on Jackson's belt, or will she manage to escape?

Reading this was tough at times, since I was in a toxic relationship for over a decade. It was like looking into a mirror. The author nailed the whole evil, possessive, controlling vibe with Jackson's character. I mean, who needs personal space, right? My ex was a lot like Jackson. I'd tell Madelyn to run for the hills, because that kind of possessiveness will eat you alive!

Thanks to Book Sirens for sending me an advanced copy to read and review.

Review:

The smut is really good and the dirty talk, the hero nailed it! If you are looking for something to pass your time, not a bad way. I don’t love it or hate it, but I did keep reading it. For a debut, this is promising and I would read another work by the author.

I primarily was drawn to ask for an arc due to the premise of the hero as an escaped prisoner. Wasn’t sure what would unfold.

Hero is an escaped prisoner who was wrongly convicted and heroine is escaping an abusive situation with her stepdad. It felt a little like Lauren Biel, and if we are using her as a marker, this is medium-gray. The first chapter is strong and bold, and I didn’t know if the author would play it safe or not.

Overall, the author plays it safe. There are insurance pieces to signal to the reader that the hero isn’t a psychopath or dead behind the eyes. At 60%, the hero has a conversation with his business partner about how he needs to face the music and acknowledge his love for the heroine… and they literally met a few days ago.

As well, she reveals her past trauma at around 30% and he already noted she would freeze up and disassociate at the certain phrases. Her vulnerability and his response to it was very normal guy behaviour. A psychopath or "hero who stays bad" would think to himself how to manipulate it or not be able to care for her, but he was on the whole pretty respectful.

We get his POV so we know how he feels towards her, and I didn’t think he would ever kill her like he says he would.

Tension in the story would have been better if we don’t know for sure what would happen, tension meaning uncertainty, not meaning the hero is more violent or evil. Just a little space for ambiguity would have been nice.

I also would have liked it if it was more of a on-the-lam story but for most of the story, they’re in his friend’s secret compound. The actual villains in the story are quickly deposed of in the last 30%.

There is some overtures towards hero and heroine being villainous in their own way, such as a description of the killing, but again it wasn’t too squeamish (as someone who hates reading this stuff). The usual eye popping/feeding severed appendages to offenders, which 🤮🤮 but at least it’s not 10 pages going on and on as some “dark” romance authors do and is not for me.

Overall, if you like some guts and gore, this would be enjoyable. Otherwise, maybe read it if you’re in the mood?

***

3.5 stars. For a debut, very promising. Will write a review later today

Little Fire crawled under my skin and stayed there. Easily my number one read of the year so far. 🔥

Madelyn and Jackson do not meet in some cute, polished, fate-wrapped package. This man escapes prison, Madelyn is already living in survival mode trying to stay hidden from her nightmare of a stepfather, and then she literally hits him with her car. Which somehow becomes the beginning of one of the most intense, emotionally charged relationships I’ve read in a while.

Jackson was everything I want in a dark romance MMC. Violent, unpredictable, emotionally scarred, and dangerous in the way a loaded gun sitting on a kitchen table is dangerous. But Madelyn never tried to soften him into something harmless. She saw every jagged edge and stayed anyway. And Jackson, in return, became the first person who ever made her feel safe enough to stop surviving and start wanting more.

What made this book unforgettable for me was how revenge became their love language.

Jackson helped Madelyn bury the fear that had controlled her life for years. Not gently either.

He ripped it out by the throat and made the monsters hunting her understand exactly what terror feels like before they died.

And Madelyn gave Jackson something just as brutal in return. She handed him a reason to keep living after revenge. A reason to come back from all the blood and violence instead of letting it consume him completely.

They didn’t heal each other in some clean, wholesome way. They dragged each other through the dark kicking and bleeding until the ghosts finally stopped breathing. Every act of vengeance felt earned. Personal. Intimate. Like two broken people stitching themselves together with violence and devotion.

The chemistry between them was unreal. Every interaction felt heavy with tension, obsession, protectiveness, and the constant threat of destruction. This book somehow balanced brutality with tenderness without losing either side of itself.

Little Fire felt raw, feral, and emotionally suffocating in the best way possible. A love story built from ashes, revenge, and the kind of loyalty that looks terrifying from the outside. 🖤

After years of plotting, Jackson finally takes his chance and escapes prison. He's going to hunt down his evil twin and exact his revenge. On his way, he encounters Madelyn, a young woman on the run from her step-father. She will make the perfect victim, so Jackson kidnaps her to toy with on his murder-filled quest. Can Madelyn survive him?

I struggled to connect with Madelyn. Having been groomed and abused by her step-father, she has some very extreme PTSD-like symptoms. Despite this, she does fight Jackson and somewhat tries to escape and resist him. However, her overall motivation is rather muddled. She wants to live, but also will challenge people to just kill her. She is attracted to Jackson and hates her body's reaction to him, but seemingly decides she loves him for no real reason. I guess it could just be Stockholm Syndrome, but her change in emotion would have been better developed if we had had a little more reasoning for why she felt more connected to Jackson.

Jackson was a more interesting character, but he would have been stronger if we could have experienced some of his history with him. He claims his twin is more evil than him, and that he was framed multiple times by his twin. But at the same time he claims to have killed hundreds of people, has ruthlessly tortured people, and was clearly working with some very violent, shady people prior to his incarceration. By comparison, when we finally meet his twin, his brother seems mentally unstable and gross, but not nearly as dangerous as Jackson. The difference in threat between the two brothers was almost a let down after the book talking up the twin as being such a horrible person. It would have been more interesting if we could have experienced Jackson being warped and corrupted by his brother as they grew up together.

There were also a few things that largely took me out of the story multiple times. One was the dialogue, which occasionally became a bit clunky and had some odd phrases. It gave many of the interactions an unnatural feel. The other was the fact that this book evidently took place in an infection-free world. Without getting too graphic, there were multiple sexual encounters between the two main characters that definitely should have resulting in a raging E.coli infection. Order of orifices matters, especially when you're changing positions.

All in all, Little Fire had some interesting ideas but I struggled to connect to the characters enough to really get into the story.

Pitch-Black, Obsessive, and Absolutely Unputdownable

"Monsters like me don’t get redemption. We take. We ruin. We burn."

Oh, my absolute word. Cora Young has completely outdone herself with Little Fire. If you are looking for a dark, unhinged, high-stakes romantic suspense that will completely consume you from the very first page, this is it.

The sheer intensity of this book is unmatched. From the moment he breaks out of prison with nothing but revenge on his mind, you think you know where the story is going—and then he takes her. The dynamic between them is absolute perfection. She is the soft to his sharp, but the moment fear turns into fire in her eyes, the chemistry absolutely explodes.

The hero is beautifully, dangerously possessive. He is a monster, he knows it, and he makes zero apologies for it. The "I would burn the world for her" energy is dialed up to a thousand, and I was utterly captivated by his dark obsession. The tension is thick enough to cut with a knife, the pace never lets up, and the writing is raw, poetic, and incredibly gripping.

It’s gritty, it's intense, and it's a magnificent reminder of why we love the dark romance genre. A spectacular five-star read that I will be thinking about for a very long time. If you haven’t picked this up yet, what are you waiting for?

Make sure you read the trigger warnings before reading, this is a dark story so they are necessary. Madeline knows what kind of man her stepfather is. Buying the cabin in the middle of nowhere was supposed to be her perfect hideaway. Until she receives a call warning her he's on a plane to get her back. Packing and leaving is her only answer. Except whilst driving away she hits a man on the gravel road. Jackson has planned his escape from prison, and is finally making it work. He's a complicated man and had a list of people to get his revenge with one in particular. Being knocked down by the car is not part of the plan. Having a woman try to hold a knife towards him is hilarious. What's the use of a knife when he has a gun. But there's just something about her that makes him want to keep her close. Now there's a shift in him, but the rage and need for revenge never leaves him. But maybe she could be useful in his plan. This is a dark suspense story that really draws you into the story. Both characters have a history of troubled pasts. Will they help each other or will everything end in tears.

ARC Review
Genre: Dark Romance

Tropes: Kidnapping, Forced Proximity, Morally Grey MMC, Touch Her & Die

For a debut novel, this shorty was put together really well. Things got spicy right out of the gate and carried on right through the epilogue. A good choice for readers who want to toe the line between dark and pitch black. This is not for you if you’re looking for spice and a cinnamon bun. The MMC is not a good guy. No spoilers here hut I was hoping for a darker ending. The chapters are short. The writing styles is easy to read and may take a beat to get used to with short sentences and a unique way of conversing.

Triggers: I don’t have any triggers, but recommend checking out the list of you do.

This book was different than anything I have ever read. Even though some parts are not believable for me, I really liked it. The Stockholm's part opens your eyes to the reality of what happens in real life. Can't wait to get to know this author and future books! Dark romance for sure. Definitely read the trigger warnings!

ARC COPY REVIEW

This book was amazing to read. The two mcs are both broken in their own ways and fit really well together. It is dark, gritty and hot.

I must say it was a bit much spice in my opinion but for this story it works really well. It makes sense in the context and the chemestry of the two Main characters is undenieble.

Good book that i can recommend to every dark romance Fan.

This was a trigger filled book so please be prepared. Not for everyone but if you have no triggers then give this a try.
Our MMC is not a good person and as the story goes we see more of his past and where he could end up. Our FMC is the total opposite and they have heat and hate and spice. Great story.

“She's goddamn mine. For now and until all eternity.”

Wow! What a book, it had me hooked from page 1 with this morally grey, unhinged MMC. He needed his revenge, but what he didn’t take into account was Madelyn. She was resilient and feisty, she had a lot of fight in her. And that caught his attention.
She didn’t want to be enjoying his attention…but she did! Jackson did not want to feel, he was fighting with himself…but he did indeed fall hard!!

🌟Unhinged MMC
🌟Both had their own demons
🌟He was fighting with his feelings for her
🌟She didn’t want to enjoy it
🌟She said it first, and he fell hard
🌟Touch her and Die….quite literally!

ARC received through BookSirens.

This book was completely unhinged in the best way.

Little Fire is fast-paced, dark, chaotic, and had me hooked almost immediately. Once I started, I genuinely did not want to put it down because the story moves so quickly and keeps throwing you deeper into Jackson and Madelyn’s wild, dangerous situation.

Jackson is an escaped convict out for revenge after being framed by his own brother for his parents’ murder. Madelyn is truly just in the wrong place at the wrong time when she hits him with her car, and from there, everything spirals. He takes her, and what follows is intense, messy, obsessive, and completely addictive.

This is definitely one of those books where you need to check your trigger warnings before jumping in. It is dark, twisted, and not for everyone, but if you enjoy unhinged characters, high stakes, revenge, obsession, and a story that does not slow down, this one is going to pull you in.

A wild ride from start to finish.

This book is not dark romance dipped in shadows. It is the kind of story that drags you into the abyss and makes you sit comfortably beside the monster while questioning why you are rooting for him in the first place.

Cora Young created a story that feels raw, violent, obsessive, and emotionally suffocating in the best way possible. From the very beginning, there is this overwhelming sense of revenge and rage pulsing through every page.

Jackson escapes prison carrying betrayal carved into his soul, fueled by vengeance and the need to reclaim everything stolen from him. Then Madelyn enters his path, and suddenly the danger shifts into something far more intimate and consuming.

What fascinated me most was that Jackson never felt softened for the reader’s comfort. He is possessive, unstable, brutal, and completely consumed by his need for control. When he takes Madelyn, you can feel that tension immediately.

She is supposed to be leverage, collateral damage in his war, but the obsession that grows between them becomes something terrifyingly intimate. There is this constant feeling that he is one bad moment away from burning the entire world down just to keep her close, and honestly, that intensity made this impossible to put down.

He does not love in healthy ways. He claims, protects, destroys, and devours, yet somewhere buried beneath all the violence is a man whose fractured soul still reaches for her.

And somehow, against all logic, it works.

I genuinely did not think Jackson was capable of love at first. I thought he was too far gone, too detached from humanity to feel anything beyond possession and rage. Cora Young did such an incredible job balancing that line because even when his emotions start surfacing, it never magically erases the monster inside him.

He still feels dangerous at every turn. He still feels like a man who could snap at any second. That is what made his connection with Madelyn so compelling. She does not fix him. She understands darkness because she has lived through her own version of it.

Madelyn absolutely shattered me. The things she endured left scars that could never simply disappear, and the story never pretends otherwise. There is this aching realism in the way trauma changes her, in the way innocence cannot survive after being broken apart by cruelty.

I loved that the book explored how pain reshapes people instead of trying to force healing into something pretty. Madelyn develops this edge to her, this acceptance of the darker parts of herself, and it made her feel so much stronger than just another captive heroine.

She fights him. Challenges him. Understands him in ways she probably should not. The chemistry between them is not sweet or safe. It is consuming, twisted, and emotionally destructive in the best possible way.

What also made this story stand out was the twin brother dynamic because if I thought Jackson was unhinged, his brother was something far worse lurking in the shadows. Jackson feels like the kind of monster forged through betrayal and violence, but his brother felt hollow in a way that genuinely unsettled me.

It created this terrifying contrast where Jackson, despite all his brutality, became the lesser evil. Sometimes it really does take one monster to protect someone from another, and this book leans fully into that concept without apology.

The writing itself was beautiful in such a brutal way. Every scene carried emotional weight, whether it was rage, fear, obsession, or desperation. The atmosphere felt suffocating at times, but intentionally so.

You are meant to feel trapped inside these damaged minds and impossible choices. The romance crawls through blood and ash instead of softness, yet there were moments between Jackson and Madelyn that felt strangely tender precisely because they were surrounded by so much darkness.

She reminds him there are pieces of himself not entirely dead yet, while he shows her that love is not always gentle and surviving can turn affection into something lethal.

This is absolutely not a book for everyone. Please check trigger warnings because this story goes deep into disturbing territory and never pulls away from the ugliness of it.

But if you love pitch black romance with obsessive devotion, morally shattered characters, violent protectiveness, and a love story that feels more like destruction wrapped in intimacy, Cora Young delivered perfectly. It fed every dark little corner of my heart and left me thinking about these characters long after I finished the final page.

3.5⭐️ rounded up because it is too good to be a 3⭐️

I originally requested the ARC (thank you again) because the plot hooked me immediately: escaped prisoner hero, heroine fleeing an abusive stepfather, and the possibility that absolutely everyone involved might make terrible decisions. Sign me up.

The hero was wrongly convicted, the heroine is escaping a horrific situation, and that opening chapter comes out SWINGING.

The smut? Excellent. The dirty talk? Hero absolutely understood the assignment. If you're looking for something dark, thrilling with a bit of humour, this is probably for you. It was a fun quick read with less than 300 pages.

There are several reassuring little insurance policies sprinkled throughout the story to make sure readers know our hero is not, in fact, a remorseless psychopath. By 60%, he's having heartfelt conversations with his business partner about accepting his feelings for the heroine.

Meanwhile, the heroine reveals her trauma fairly early on, and the hero quickly notices the phrases that trigger her freeze response. His reaction is, honestly just decent guy behavior? Which isn't a complaint, exactly, but it does make it difficult to buy his repeated claims that he's dangerous and might kill her. Sir, you just provided emotional support and respected boundaries. Be serious.

Because we get his POV, we always know exactly how he feels about her. Any uncertainty disappears pretty quickly. For me, the tension would have been stronger if there had been a little ambiguity about where things were headed. Not because I needed him to be more violent or evil, but because uncertainty creates suspense. Instead, I spent most of the book thinking, "That man is down catastrophically and everyone knows it."

I was also hoping for more of an on-the-run story. Instead, much of the book takes place in his friend's secret compound, which is admittedly safer but significantly less exciting than constantly evading capture. The actual villains get dealt with fairly quickly in the final stretch.

The book occasionally gestures toward the hero and heroine being morally questionable people, mostly through descriptions of revenge and violence. Thankfully, as someone who does not enjoy extended torture-porn scenes, the gore never overstays its welcome. We get the standard dark romance menu items, eye popping, severed appendages, creative disposal methods but they are discussed and swiftly moved on from.

ARC Review

This book was adventurous, chaotic, exciting, and completely hooked me from the very first page.
The story follows two deeply traumatized characters who are drawn to each other despite every reason they should stay apart. He is a morally black antihero driven by rage, revenge, and a relentless need for justice after being wrongfully accused. She is a morally gray heroine living in survival mode, desperately trying to escape the horrors of her past and the threat of her stepfather.

Their first meeting is anything but conventional—she literally hits him with a car before being kidnapped by him. Somehow, that becomes the foundation of one of the most twisted and compelling relationships I've read in a while.
The chemistry between these two is intense from the start. His presence is heavy, dangerous, and magnetic all at once. He is possessive, obsessive, and willing to destroy anyone who threatens her. Meanwhile, she finds herself feeling both safe and terrified around him, constantly fighting the pull between hatred and attraction. The more time they spend together, the more they realize they share the same goal, and their connection only grows stronger.

The banter was sharp, the pacing was fast, and the tension never let up. Watching them embrace their darkness together was both fascinating and addictive. Their relationship is definitely not healthy by any traditional standard, but if you enjoy dark romance with morally questionable characters, obsession, revenge, this one delivers.

That said, please check the trigger warnings before diving in. This book explores several very dark themes and kinks that won't be for every reader. While I personally found it thrilling and entertaining, some scenes may be difficult for others.

Overall, this was a wild ride filled with danger, obsession, revenge, and two broken people finding understanding in each other's darkness. If you enjoy fast-paced dark romance with morally gray and morally black characters, this book is worth checking out.

Body count by MeemsAngel82

This one was super unusual for me because what can I say, I was curious. I thought this might be unusual and I wasn't wrong. Prepare yourself because there isn't anything normal here other than two people connecting and wanting to stay together and revenge in it's extreme. In other words heed trigger warnings, they are there for a reason. Our author delivered on what she promised! The writing keeps you engaged and this definitely held my attention.

He had been framed by his brother and wanted revenge. He would use her and get rid of her once he was done. She had been abused and wanted revenge and unwillingly went with him, finding pleasure and someone who would always protect her despite what he promised at first.

They connected on a level, they were attracted. He needed her and she decided she wasn't getting a better outcome and did what she could. He started protecting her and gave her pleasure. She enjoyed parts of him and they were stuck with one another on a revenge trip and leaned on one another. He softened for her and she did too. In their messed up world, they found a connection. Apparently their enemies and acquaintances were an even more eyebrow raising bunch! One thing, I wish he wasn't doing what he did with someone at the prison before he met his h because I found it unnecessary. He was already going to get his girl in more ways than one so I would have appreciated him not being with another female even before her in these pages because the focus was on our couple. There was enough going on in the book, no matter that he didn't care for that woman. Regardless, this was entertaining but definitely different. There is thankfully an HEA and I'm glad the two found one another after all of this. Again, it's different so just be aware of what you are reading. What does it say about me that I love a bit of a deranged character in my stories? And Jackson fits that mould to a T. Jackson is in prison for a crime he didn't commit. He has thought of all the ways he can get his revenge on his twin, Jamieson, the actual perpetrator. When the opportunity arises for him to escape, he takes it, and while fleeing, he comes across Madelyn.

Madelyn will have to flee again to stay one step ahead of her stepfather. A man she trusted until the death of her mother; then he showed his true colours. Madelyn was his to own and use. But fleeing has brought her into contact with Jackson, another man who thinks he can take what he wants, no matter what she thinks or feels.

Jackson is so focused on what he wants- revenge- that he doesn't see how attached he becomes to his 'Little fire'. He thinks he can kill her once he has enough of her, when she no longer serves a purpose to him, but he severely underestimates how far she has burrowed under his skin.

Madelyn just wants her life back, one where she is in control, not a man. One where she is not constantly looking over her shoulder. Can Jackson be a means to an end? Can she tempt him to help her eliminate her biggest threat, and at the same time lessen the threat she poses to him?

The book had me from the start. The anger that Jackson feels, that's fuelling him. He thinks that he is damaged beyond repair and he needs no one. That he doesn't have a heart, but he has; it may just be a black one, though. Madelyn soon realises she craves Jackson; he may think he just takes, but he gives her what she needs. Can she show him that he doesn't have to end her life, that he can change, that there is something between them worth pursuing?

This book was dark, addictive and honestly so hard to put down. The story follows Madelyn, a girl hiding from her abusive past, whose life completely changes after meeting Jackson, an escaped convict with dangerous obsession vibes. What starts as fear slowly turns into a twisted emotional connection filled with tension, possessiveness and dark romance.
Jackson was literally the definition of a walking red flag and I still ate up every single scene with him 😭 The way he called her “Little Fire” had me giggling and kicking my feet while also being scared for her at the same time. Their chemistry was intense from the start and the tension never disappeared.
I really liked how emotional the story became underneath all the dark themes. Madelyn’s trauma and fear felt real, and Jackson slowly becoming protective over her made me so attached to them together. He was toxic, obsessive, and completely unhinged, but somehow still soft for her in his own messed up way. That contrast honestly made his character even more addictive to read about.
The writing kept me hooked the entire time, and the atmosphere felt so dark and haunting. Some scenes genuinely gave me chills, especially with how intense the tension felt throughout the story. I just wanted a little more depth in a few parts, which is why this was a 4 star instead of a full 5 for me.
Overall, this was such an addictive dark romance with intense chemistry, dangerous obsession, morally grey characters, and all the dark vibes I love 🖤

This book is definitely not for everyone. It’s only for the hardened. Only for those who truly love dark, dark heroes who couldn’t care less what you think or want. They pursue their single goal, even if it means leaving a trail of corpses and rivers of blood in their wake. And that’s exactly what Jackson is. Or at least he was, until he met Madelyn. Then, his dead heart began to beat again, slowly.

They aren’t an ordinary couple, and they don’t have an ordinary relationship. They crave each other and hate each other at the same time. But there’s only a very thin line between the two, and that line begins to blur. And it works perfectly for them. Their chemistry is explosive and intense, and it plays a huge role. They’re simply irresistible.

The villains are truly repulsive antagonists who perfectly serve their purpose in this book.

I don’t want to give too much away, because this deserves to be read and enjoyed as a decadent experience of pain, sex, blood, and suffering. From the very beginning, that wave engulfed me and wouldn’t let me surface.

Addictive. Very dark. Sinful and merciless. I’m putting this book on my top shelf because it was a fucking good and unforgettable experience.

If another book by this author becomes available in this vein, I’ll gladly use my sharp elbows to get my hands on it 🤭 thank you.

Little Fire by Cora Young is a dark romance that explores obsession, trauma and the fragile line between fear and desire.
From the beginning, the book establishes a heavy, anciety-driven tone that never fully lets up. There is a constant sense of unease, especially through Madelyns perspective. The story leans heavily into psychological strain and the feeling of being trapped in a dangerous situation with no way out.
The dynamic between the two main characters is central to the books atmosphere. Their relationship is built on fear, mistrust and shifting power, creating a volatile and unpredictable connection. At the same time there are gradual changes throughout the story that add complexity and emotional depth to the story.
What stands out most of the story is the psychology weight. The feeling of danger is almost constant and the emotional stakes remain high. This creates an immersive but often intense reading atmosphere that may not be suitable for readers who prefer light romance.

Overall Little Fire is a dark, atmospheric and emotionally charged story that focuses more on tension than comfort. It will especially appeal to readers who enjoy intense, morally complex dark romance.

This book was amazing it had me at the edge of my seat laughing at things I shouldn't have laughed at and the banter was good, the dark content was amazingly well done with a lot of detail.
The level of darkness and taboo around the MMC was good with how he was shaped by his actions and his past not fully letting himself succum to the darkness while still keeping to himself and his own twisted code of morality.
The FMC was well done with her own trauma and how she evolved to help her feel something and not be afraid of herself anymore or what people could be.
The level of spice through the book has been well written and done in a very thought out way to get a reaction from the reader and helps to set up the book.
The taboo and the level of drakness that came out of this book was well done the trigger warnings are deffinatly there to pay attention to as they confused me with a few and they did not dissapoint it the delevery of some of them.

Please don’t stop writing more fantastic books for me to read, Cora! Jackson is morally black, full of revenge, with a sick, twisted mind. Madelyn is dealing with her own personal monster and runs right into the devil, literally. Jackson’s carefully laid plans are completely derailed because of it and ends up bringing Madelyn directly into a world of torment and brutality by this completely unhinged psychopath who wants her both dead and alive, but broken by his own hands either way. They are both not what they seem on the outside, or what they are capable of, as they find hidden parts of themselves together. This story is truly a dark romance full of murder, many smoking sex scenes, and no apologies. I wanted to know how the story ended, yet I hoped it never ended at the same time. Thank you for this book!

Little Fire—BookSirens
Star Rating: 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pub Date: May 26, 2026
Genre: Dark Romance
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This was a quick fast paced read. Jackson escapes from prison first thing, and then we have Madelyn who is trying to get away from her stepdad and crashes her car into someone right as she leaves the cabin and that is Jackson. Jackson “kidnaps” her so she wouldn’t go to the cops and snitch on him. He won’t go back to prison he needs to get revenge on his brother. Madelyn and Jackson come to an agreement that he will help her get rid of her stepdad and she will help him stay out of prison. This is enemies to lovers and immediately it is kinda instalust and oh boy it’s spicy! All I’m gonna say is it’s very deep with triggers and just look up the triggers of this book before reading. I loved it a lot but I wanted more of love between the characters I feel like it happened too quickly? I did love the nickname he had for her too. “Little Fire”

This dark captive romance has themes and content that may be disturbing for some readers, so as always, read the trigger warnings carefully.

Reading this, I found that the MMC, Jackson, had some serious bad boy energy. The type of guy that you want, even if you know it's wrong. As this was also a forced proximity, I found that I didn't want to focus on anything other than Jackson and Madelyn. After a while, I found that their connection messed with my head in the best way, and it was an intense ride.

The spice was very present, but I felt the writing itself also had a beautiful poetic quality. The book's title was something that became more meaningful to me as the story progressed. This was the author's debut, and I look forward to more.

Thank you to Booksirens and the author for a free copy to review.

To all the girls who dreamed of taking on a murderous kidnapper. Don't worry. He falls in love with you." This is how this book starts. With this dedication. Obviously, I had to read the rest.

Jackson
He escapes prison, leaving bodies behind him. He wants to find the person responsible for putting him in jail so he can get his revenge.

Madelyn
She is trying to escape her step-dad when she hits someone with her car, Jackson. He kidnaps her, intending to kill her once he stops needing her.

This book is pretty unhinged. I liked it for the kind of book that it is. I would strongly recommend to check the trigger warnings before reading it though, because although Jackson is clearly a psychopath, his brother is a worse level of unhinged.

First, let me say that this book is not for the faint of heart—be sure to check the trigger warnings before diving in. That said, I could not get enough of it. The chemistry between the main characters is raw, intense, and completely believable, making every interaction feel authentic and emotionally charged.
The story pulled me in from the very beginning and refused to let go. The tension, emotion, and character development kept me turning pages always needing to know what would happen next. This is the kind of book that takes over your thoughts when you're not reading it and makes it nearly impossible to put down.
If you're prepared for the darker themes and emotional intensity, you're in for an unforgettable reading experience. A gripping, powerful, and thoroughly addictive read.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 (there are some taboo scenes, please check those CW/TWs)

If you want hate/love, banter, revenge and trauma bond that makes you a bit jealous… this is a good one. So this story is a wonderful rollercoaster. The scenes are spicy, the action is g0rey, and the hate you can feel in your bones.

If I had a person who would do revenge like the MMC… well not all superheroes wear capes. He’s the anti-hero we need. 🖤

I’m not sure if the author was going through something but at the same time it felt like she was using this to heal something.

Please please please check CW/TWs, there is a lot of things in this that could be triggering.
