Harmony's Bytes is a rom-com style novel with threads of foodie goodness and musical throwbacks, leading to an enjoyable read.
While it took me about 25-30% in to really feel connected to the characters and the storyline, once I did, there was a solid groove. I do not always read an ooey-gooey rom-com, I typically enjoy my rom-coms with a dash of dark/broody MMC, which the MMC of this story, Scott, is most certainly not. That being said, the characters are authentic and raw.
What I enjoyed most about this story was the fun walk through a San Francisco I visited often. Many of my highlights while reading the ebook were places or people I remember and miss about the City by the Bay.

I went into Harmony's Bytes expecting a light, cozy foodie rom-com and ended up completely invested in these people.
Set in San Francisco in 2010, we follow Harmony Lewis after she quits her dead-end job to start a food blog — Harmony's Bytes — with her two best friends, Nikki and Katie. Their reviews take off, and suddenly that little "Approved by Harmony's Bytes" sticker is what every restaurant in the city wants. It's such a fun, specific time capsule — the early QR codes, the blogging boom, the cafe culture — Abramowitz nails the atmosphere.
Then Harmony meets Scott Kasten. He scans one of her QR codes at a cafe, sees her photo, and pursues her. He's a wordsmith, a fellow foodie, and genuinely a good man. I loved their banter. It has that classic When Harry Met Sally energy the book promises — witty, warm, and a little nervous.
What kept me reading past the romance was the friendship and the secret. Harmony is hiding something major that could blow up her brand, her friendships, and her relationship with Scott. And her friendships with Nikki and Katie aren't just background decoration — they feel lived-in. Loyal, messy, funny, the kind of friends who will call you out.
Abramowitz writes with multiple POVs and it works. You get Harmony, Scott, and the girls, so you really understand what's at stake for everyone. There are some heavier threads too — betrayal, health issues, what it means to rebuild — which gave the book more weight than I expected. It's sweet but not shallow.
It's a love story to food, to San Francisco, to female friendship, and to second chances. I finished it hungry and a little teary.
If you like contemporary romance with heart, strong women, and a lot of delicious food descriptions, pick this one up.

Very impressive debut from a first-time novelist. The book is infused with the author’s love of the food, music, people, and culture of San Francisco, which made the city feel like a character in its own right. I could easily picture the characters eating Jamaican food on the brightly colored patio at Cha Cha Cha or grabbing coffee at Philz.
I especially loved that the story was told from multiple perspectives, which added so much context and insight into the characters and their relationships. No one was perfect - they all had moments of weakness, jealousy, and selfishness, as we all do - and I enjoyed watching them grapple with those flaws in ways that felt true to life.
I was invested in the story from the very beginning through the excellent ending. And, as an added bonus, as a Bay Area local I now have a whole list of new restaurants and dishes to try!

Too often, contemporary romance novels relegate the protagonist's female friends to mere sounding boards flat characters whose only purpose is to nod along over mimosas while the heroine analyzes her love life. Abramowitz soundly rejects this lazy trope. In Harmony’s Bytes, the foundational trinity of Harmony, Katie, and Nikki forms the true emotional spine of the book.While the central engine is a wonderfully witty, When Harry Met Sally esque digital courtship between Harmony and Scott, the text shines brightest when exploring the cost of transparency. Harmony is managing a massive public identity while secretly battling high stakes personal and physical vulnerabilities. When her secrets threaten to implode her brand, her friends don't just offer platitudes; they actively step into the debris to help pick up the pieces while managing their own complicated lives, including a beautifully written LGBTQ+ side romance. It is a refreshing, honest depiction of sisterhood under pressure.
A Note on Discovery: It is a shame this brilliant gem isn't standard reading across social media book communities yet. A surprisingly enjoyable read
I enjoyed how Harmony’s Bytes brings together food, relationships, and some unexpected turns in life. One thing I liked was how the story gives the supporting characters their own personalities instead of making everything revolve around the main relationship. Eddie was a nice example of that, especially when he helps with the Asian-fusion dinner—it was a fun little part of the story.
I also liked the way the food experiences are worked into the characters' conversations and relationships. It makes the story feel lively without being just about restaurants.
There are some heavier moments too, which give the characters more depth and made me more invested in what they were going through.
Overall, this was a fun and heartfelt read with a good mix of relationships, food, humor, and more serious moments. I found myself enjoying the journey more than I expected.

Harmony turned her love of food and made into one neck of a business hence Harmony bytes. She has her two best friends by her side through it all. In comes Scott who is a delightful gentleman and he quickly catches feelings for Harmony. They have a beautiful relationship together based on honesty, good communication and a love formed by friendship first. When Harmony's secret returns she makes the choice to deal with it. Absolutely loved this story and the character growth and was so excited with the ending.
