After a gang of thugs beat him up, Paul's parents decide they've had enough of Glasgow's tough streets and move the family to Winnipeg. Still healing from his injuries, Paul also has deep inner scars that will make his new high school, in this new country, even more of a battleground. New Blood is an edgy yet moving account of violence, bullying, recovery, and hope.

This book was very good. It is about a kid named Callum who moved to Canada from Scotland. Callum and his parents moved in with his brother Ewan and Ewan's wife Vickie. Callum had met two friends over the summer named Aiden and Tyler who helped him feel more comfortable there. On the first day of school Callum met a girl named Cindy and he had a crush on her. Later in the day Callum began having problems. A guy named Rick who was with his three friends was being mean to Cindy and Callum stepped in and told him to stop. One of Rick's friends rushed at Callum and Callum tripped him. Rick then threw Callum across the room. Those problems continued once Rick found out that Callum was hanging out with Cindy. One day on his way to school Rick caught Callum and beat him up again. Later in the book Cindy and Callum were walking home from the mall and Cindy's dad smacked Cindy and threw her inside when he caught her walking with Callum. Then Callum found out that Cindy's dad had been beating her and her mom. Callum and Cindy started secretly dating. One day Cindy called Callum and it ended abruptly when Callum heard Cindy's dad yelling at her. So Callum told his father and his brother and they all ran down to Cindy's house to stop Cindy's dad. Once they got there however, Cindy's mom told them that everything was fine so Callum, his dad, and his brother couldn't do anything. Rick saw Callum and thanked him for at least trying to stop Cindy's dad. That is when Callum realized the reason why Rick was bullying him. After that Rick and Callum didn't hate each other. One day Tyler who had a huge crush on Cindy caught Callum and Cindy together and he became more distant and hostile to Callum. One day on the way to school with Tyler and Aiden, Tyler became very aggressive taking out a knife and swinging it at Callum. Callum defended himself and got cut. Tyler fled after Aiden pushed Tyler away. Later on Rick and Callum worked together and told the school what was happening with Cindy and they found out that Cindy's father had been arrested that morning. Later in the book Cindy called Rick and Callum because they needed to talk. If you want to find out what happens then you should read this book. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 I enjoyed everything that happened in it.
New Blood By Peter McPhee Review The book New Blood was a excellent suspenseful book that will leave you on the edge of your seats. Paul the main character was someone people could relate to dealing with everyday bulling and having secrets that have to hid. At the beginning the book was a little slow and uninteresting but as the book progressed on it provided you with more of a interesting for the reader. Paul's past comes back to haunt in story which makes it interesting for the reader to learn about Paul and see him overcome the problems that used to haunt him and the new problems he must face starting at his new school. When Paul goes to his new school and has to deal with being the new kid I was able to relate to him. The book really showed the challenges the new kid goes through but it was a little to our of order with the story having characters mad then happy at each other. Then when his friend turned on him and stabbed him I was totally confused and felt bad for him. But in the friends defense Paul did steal the girl he has been in love with so it makes sense he would be angry. I just didn't expect it to go that far and for him to become friends with the bully. Even though they had the common goal as to protect the girl they both like from her evil father who constantly hurt her and her mother. I was so shocked when the book through that twist in there. I would have never thought they would have done that to her character especially when she already was struggling to be with two guys. The book went from one problem to the next to the next which made the book interesting even with the slow progression of the beginning. Its a great book for people to read even if they really aren't into the stories that involve kids there age the suspense will really make up for it. All readers will love this book cause it involves suspense, mystery, and love. Making it a great book for people in high school who can actually relate to Paul and all the other characters who make up the book.
I actually really liked this book. It was different from the books I usually read, I was getting a little tired of supernatural romances and all that and reading something this realistic was refreshing. It seemed like it could even be a true story. The main character I could imagine perfectly and most of the characters are easy to relate to. Though some of them I would have liked to be developed more, but in general it was good and a quick read.
I found thid book very interesting i couldn't put it down. It was such a page turner. You never know what's going to happen next. I really recomend it.
