What a beautiful debut novel!! I was lucky to receive an ARC of this and had such a lovely time reading this book. I loved not only reading a book with Latine leads, but also in the city that I live in! It was fun reading about familiar places and other places in Texas that I’ve visited myself.
I don’t normally like books with roommates to lovers, but this was an exception!! I loved the way Jake and Ita slowly progressed from strangers to friends to lovers through movie nights and games of twenty questions. Their connection felt very nostalgic and reminiscent of my own memories of young, college love. It was honestly so sweet.
I knew early on that this book would make me emotional. From the beginning, we know that our mmc Jake is dealing with the very recent loss of his father. The author did such a good job at writing moments that brought me to tears and pulled at my heart strings when it came to Jake and his father.
Ita had a heart of gold. I liked how understanding and patient she was. She had her own grief and trauma that she was dealing with, but it was evident how strong it all made her. I’m so happy she found someone as amazing as Jake to care for her and who she could care for as well. They were perfect together (and so, so hot omg??)
Jake was a king amongst men!! I can’t count the amount of times I had heart in my eyes with his acts of service and the clear way that he cared for Ita. I mean, this man washed her hair for her and learned her curly hair routine!! King. Shit. Despite hurting and being in pain, he still loved so hard and I thought that spoke highly to the heart of his character. It was hard to watch him struggle through his grief and suffer alone, but I’m glad he was actively working through it. His journey through it was beautiful and brought me to tears more than once.
There is so much potential in this author’s writing. There were certain spots that I wished had been expanded on a bit and left me with questions, but overall though, I think the writing had something special about it that makes me excited for whatever else Kaila will write!

I’m literally obsessed with. Let’s get right into it. The writing, the pacing, world-building, well done and beautifully done. My heart hurt sooo badly for both Jake and Ita, for things I’m going to let you find out.
The pacing of the story was well done. The chemistry between them!! 👏🏽
She’s given me hope. Healed parts of my heart. And given me the courage. Because even though I have moved on, I haven’t moved forward. Everyone deserves to find their Jake.

Talk about the greenest flag book EVER (that I have read so far). I am dead serious! If you want cute and fluffy and spicy, this is the book to read. Also, it made me VERY happy to read main characters that are latine because of representation. Also, many queer characters which also is a nice highlight for representation.
So, Jake and Ita (now I wanna name my potential daughter Margarita JUST for that nickname XD) are two college bound adults that somehow fate decides to put them on each other’s path. They meet at the bank where Ita needs a signature for her mother and Jake happily obliges. And when Ita mentions she is looking for an apartment to rent, lo and behold, Jake has an apartment and is in need of a roommate. And with time, Ita reaches out to see if the room is still available, which it is. From there, we get this beautiful strangers to lovers path that flows so beautifully with two green flags main characters and I mean green flags!
Spice wise, I enjoyed it. There is a good bit of spice but what I enjoyed more is how the encounters between Ita and Jake weren’t always rushed or random, in a sense. There were moments that there was so much intimacy between them. It wasn’t just physical, but also emotional. And the check ins! The consent! The reassurances! And this could be considered a spoiler, but the fact that Jake and Ita don’t even rush into having hot fun immediately. They take their time, eventhough they want to go all the way, they don’t rush it.
Jake is such a green flag by the fact that even when there was mention of his one night stands, he is very considerate and understanding, and up front with what he wants. And he respects not just Ita, but everyone around him. We also get to see his grieving process because he had just lost his father when this book starts. And Ita as well is going through her own personal struggles but she is such a bright light throughout this read. And very understanding when she finds out about Jake’s loss. She is also a green flag because she also keeps Jake in mind and I enjoyed how she was an equal type person. Jake wanted to spoil her, and she would let it happen, but she also held on to her independence and if Jake bought food or groceries, she made sure that the next one would be on her.
But together, they were beautiful. No miscommunication, they were open with each other, and even when they spoke out their relationship to each other, they made sure they were both on the same page. And we even got to see how easily they both got along in each other’s circles, respectful of each other’s friends and families. And of course the latin cuisine that no lie, actually made me hungry while reading, and in my current state I don’t get hungry! I honestly couldn’t stop awwing at how sweet and adorable this book was. As someone who enjoys dark romance and a bit of drama in between the characters, this was such a breath of fresh air to read. I loved it, and I hope to see more stuff like this from Kaila.

Okay what a lovely Romance book! I really enjoyed reading from both our FMC and MMC's perspectives and the letters from Jake to his dad? That is SO wholesome and healed a little of my own grief in reading them🥺
There are so many beautiful things about Craving You and it truly is a book about two people getting to know each other in the best of ways and carving space for each other in their lives without trying to force the other person to change. We meet Ita (Margarita) and see her experience in life, what shaped her and how she comes out of her stressful experiences in her past and builds her own future. Jake, on the other hand, has just had a loss in his life and we get to go through his journey of grief and how he copes with it.
I think the thing that captured my attention the most is the way both of the characters fitted SO well together and their relationship grew alongside their lives. Both of the MCs were so lovely and wanted the best for the other. It's the kind of love we spend a lifetime looking for and a few of us are lucky enough to find it.
Also, the food that Jake makes for Ita? The way Ita gives Jake space and time to process things? The way they take care of each other in the small and big things? May this love find us all and for those of us who have found it, may we experience a lifetime of it
Also, I loved how we get to see both MC's families, how they grew up in different cultures and how it shaped them. I love when we get books that have multiple languages as usually any mixed culture families will have that happening in reality (or if you're from so many, you'll have more than 2 languages that you grow up around but never fully speak) and it's a beautiful thing to read in Craving You! I think Kaila did this in a way that is a needed representation for a lot of us and I loved exploring it in the book

As someone who lost my dad almost 10 years ago… those moments didn’t just feel like part of the story, they felt personal. Like I was sitting in that grief with him for a second.
And I loved how Ita wasn’t just there for romance…she’s figuring herself out too and choosing herself.
Their relationship didn’t feel rushed or forced. It felt like comfort. Like timing. Like two people finding each other when they needed it most.
Also… let’s talk about how this man helped her AND her mom and then casually offered her a place to stay?🥹 giveeee me him🤗 I’m keeping him no take backs💀😂

Meet Jake and Ita. Jake recently lost his father before starting his first year at college and finds himself living alone in his 2 bedroom apartment after his best friend bails last minute. Ita is heading to college and needs to find housing. Jake meets Ita and offers his place to her and thus begins their friendship.
This was such a great story about family and grief and what it means to live life with loss.
I loved seeing the connection grow naturally over time between Jake and Ita. How they started off as friends first and I loved their tradition of doing Sunday movie nights. It was so nice seeing Jake heal through his grief and seek out support and love with going to therapy and connecting again with his best friend.

This story really pulled me in emotionally, especially with the dual POV, I loved getting inside both Jake and Ida’s heads and seeing how their feelings developed from both sides. Jake’s letters to his deceased father? Yeah… those hit. They added such a raw, vulnerable layer to his character that made his grief feel real and heavy in the best way.
What stood out the most for me was how deeply we got to explore both of their struggles. Jake dealing with loss and trying to move forward, and Ida navigating her own life transitions—it felt grounded and honest. Their connection didn’t feel rushed, it felt like two people finding comfort in each other when they needed it most.
This book was spicyyy, once they started being nasty. It’s like they had to do it everywhere, in the house in the car. They really couldn’t keep their hands off each other. Their connection was so strong.

Craving You was such a wholesome read. No messy drama, no breakup, no chaos—just two people navigating life, grief, and new beginnings together. It felt really grounded in that way, like watching two adults figure things out in real time.
I loved the dual POV—it gave you a deeper look into both of their emotions and growth. And for a college-age story, I really appreciated how it handled boundaries and consent in a thoughtful, realistic way.
It was cute, fluffy, and had just the right amount of spice.
Also, the representation? Queer + Latine characters? I love to see it 👏🏽

A chance encounter brings them together, and they end up learning so much about each other and themselves over several months as roommates, then friends, then lovers.
I loved that there was humor, spice, and a whole lot of emotion. I found myself crying several times. It made me sad. It brought me joy.
I loved the incorporation of Spanish words and dishes. Every time Jake or Ita made something, it made me hungry.
Overall, this was a wonderful debut and I hope to see more about Ita and Jake in the future.

Who knew sleeping with your roommate, whom you also randomly met at the bank, would turn into something beautiful. Jake & Ita go on this journey of building a relationship and I have to say Jake is the greenest green flag there is. Their chemistry could be felt on the pages, the understanding of one another was so refreshing and they both love eachother deeply that it makes you question how is this fiction?!
I loved Jake’s development after the loss of his dad. I sat in my car crying because why the fuck would you do that to me Kalia?! WHY😭 Best believe I messaged her about it!!!
I definitely recommend if you want to support a Latina Indie Author, are a fan of the one bed trope, close proximity, getting emotionally ruined and Spanish dirty talk then this is for you😘

I found myself crying a lot reading this beautiful story about love, grief, self discovery, and healing ❤️🩹. This was such a well written story that pulled at my heart strings. I found myself drawn to the chemistry shared between all characters and I can’t wait for you to read this book! You need to add this to your Tbr list if it isn’t already there! From the start I was HOOKED! I knew that I would’ve this book which made it harder for me to finish (didn’t want it to end 😭😂) guess you can consider that my toxic trait like oh this book is good let me stop reading it so I can prolong my time with the characters ✨😂 (girl math I don’t make up the rules)

I loved this book! As a bilingual reader, finding a story that blends English and Spanish so naturally was such a treat. It felt authentic and relatable.
The story of Ita and Jake is everything you want in a contemporary romance: it's sweet, steeped in strong family ties, and fresh; but also, incredibly passionate and intense.
The forced proximity trope (sharing a house, a room, and a bed!) was executed perfectly.
The tension between them builds until it’s absolute fire! You can feel every moment, from the tender family scenes to the steamiest, spicy chapters.
It’s a beautiful, high-heat romance that stays with you long after the final page.

This book pulled me out a very long slump! It was everything I need AND MORE. The chemistry between Jake and Ita is so natural and the tension is there from the beginning. I loved the natural progression between strangers to lovers. I really loved the representation in this!!!! This book made me really laugh so many times, even teared up a few times. Enjoyed every page and it kind of took me back to the begınning stages of my relationship when we first met back in college. 🤭🥹

75% spice, 25% wholesome family fun. I did like the discussion of grief and the rocky start to therapy. The side characters added to the story and made me laugh. Tropes are clearly stated with my least favorite quickly removed. My hesitation is that at time the pacing felt a bit abrupt. But it was a cute quick read.

You meet Jake and Ita who go from strangers to roommates to lovers. They are young and are very infatuated with each other. There are a lot of spicy scenes. Even though this book focuses a lot on the romance between Jake and Ita, it also focuses on some emotional topics like grief. Jake is dealing with the loss of his dad and is navigating his grief through therapy and journaling.

Roommates to friends to lovers in the sweetest way! Emotions were high, but so was that spice baby! 🌶 These two characters made each other feel safe, seen, and loved and it was beautiful to witness on the page 💚 Craving You is such an appropriate title!

I was very invested in the MCs story and really enjoyed their characters. However, there were certain aspects of the book that did not feel natural and like they were being forced and I just could get over it

I absolutely loved Ita and Jake and it was so cute how she thought a rule that nothing could happen between them could actually work. I had the privilege of reading this as it was being written so I had a lot of time to fall in love with the two of them and their friends and family.
