New York Raptors #5
What So Proudly We Hail
She’s chasing the truth. He’s blocking every shot… except the one to his heart.
I’m being sent to Washington, D.C. as a punishment.
Weeks of watching hockey. Reporting on sports when I usually chase criminals, corruption, and scandals is pure torture. Apparently, being too good at my job comes with consequences.
And NHL defenseman Baptiste Marchand is the embodiment of everything that’s making this assignment unbearable.
Privileged, confident, and annoyingly charming.
But when he walks in on me while I’m digging for dirt behind the NHL scenes—don’t tell my boss—I end up scoring an interview with him instead… and start seeing him in a very different light.
He ropes me into meeting his friends, attending charity galas, and wandering through summer festivals—all against my will—and suddenly, I’m questioning whether the loner life I’ve built so carefully is actually making me happy.
And when ghosts from my past resurface, threatening my future, Baptiste is right there, helping me uncover the truth. Slowly, all the walls I’ve built around my heart start to crumble, and I begin to wonder if he might be the one person I never even knew I was looking for.
But chasing the truth has consequences.
And I may have gone too far.
I just don’t know if he’ll ever forgive me for it.
What So Proudly We Hail is a hockey romcom with a side of mystery.
A must-read if you love found family, sharp banter, and unexpected second chances.
Celebrate America's 250th birthday with the Stars, Stripes and Hockey Nights series where the swooniest hockey all-stars take the ice in a festive exhibition tournament.
Each book is a closed door romcom and features a different hockey hero taking his shot at forever.

Y'all it's time for Baptiste Marchand's book!!!!! Woot Woot!!! If you've been reading this author's previous series about the Raptors then you're going to recognize who Baptiste is. I loved when she announced that he would be getting his own book. And I loved reading his story with Harper!
Right from the get go, these two do NOT get off on the right foot with each other. Hahaha! I seriously was laughing out loud and just shaking my head thinking how fun it was going to be to see when they finally had a moment that actually worked out and neither one of them are hangry or tired. *Smirks* Harper just needed a Salted Caramel Twix. Baptiste, take note of that!
These two were just delightful. I loved them coming to understand their misunderstandings better and as they came to know each other better. *Happy Sigh* I just adored them so much! I loved watching them open up and share about their pasts and their hopes for the future. And the slight aspects of suspense in this one kept me turning the pages wondering how it would all play out and if Harper was going to be safe!
The games were fun to "watch" and cheer for the hockey players right alongside Harper! I love how this author writes her sports games and makes me feel like I'm right there in the middle of the action. Keeps me turning pages and wishing I was right there watching a game for real!
The romance is sweet and swoony! You'll be cheering for these two as well as for the hockey players! They have some ups and downs and have to figure out how it might work for them after these three weeks of being in DC together. I loved it all!!!
And Baptiste...remember buy lots of Salted Caramel Twix bars! *Winks*
Content: Clean. Some sweet kisses and nothing further. Some mild suspense but nothing crazy or graphic.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

📝REVIEW:
The BANTER between the two main characters was amazing! His determination to convince her to love hockey and make friends, plus her determination to stay a hockey hater and true introvert, was the perfect start to such a good book.
I love how passionate he was about making sure she was included in his friend group. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a main character gain true love and true family.
I also liked the unexpected twist in the plot that gave me even more desire to keep turning the page. Let’s just say I love nothing more than a protective main male character. If you’re looking for a hockey romance that has banter and a more daring plot, then don’t hesitate to read “What So Proudly We Hail.”

“Hockey is a community. We show up for one another, and as we train and play together, we become like family–something I always craved.”
What So Proudly We Hail, part of the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series is like an iceberg–this 250 year hockey tournament celebration is the obvious focus of the story, but there are several deeper, lurking mysteries tangled up with Baptiste’s and Harper’s story that gave this one an incredibly entertaining angle.
The Raptors teammates are the found family that Baptiste has yearned for and I loved watching the bonding through the pages. A meet-cute in three stages, including one with salted caramel Twix, added Harper to the mix, and I delighted in every single banter-filled interaction. Because Harper is a journalist, and a good one at that, she relentlessly digs, which results in some interesting twists.
All in all, I adored everything about this book and fell head-over-heels with Baptiste and Harper. Marion De Re is a fantastic writer that never fails to captivate my heart and attention.

What So Proudly We Hail
A Novel Written By Marion De Re’
Fiction - Romance
Published June 2026

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is more than a cute closed door hockey romance. This book also has drama, mystery, and revenge. Many characters from the author’s Raptors Hockey Series appear in this book. It was great catching up with them while the focus was on two new characters. This is a timely book that takes place in Washington DC during America’s 250th birthday celebration.
Harper Donnelly is an investigative reporter whose boss has sent her to the nation’s capital to cover a hockey tournament. Harper is not happy with this assignment. While traveling by car from New York City to Washington, Harper encounters Baptiste Marchand along the way. Baptiste is the newest member of the New York Raptors hockey team. The two don’t hit it off well.
It was fun reading how these two strangers who don’t like each other slowly fall in love. Two people who don’t have much success in dating.
“Thank you for all this, and for giving me a second chance. Even though what I did was unforgivable.”

Thank you to the author @MarionDeReWrites for the #gifted e-book.
🇺🇸📚 Continuing my countdown to America’s 250th birthday with another patriotic read, and this one was such a fun time! ❤️🤍💙
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 | What So Proudly We Hail by Marion De Re
I honestly don’t think Marion De Re can write a book I won’t love! Every installment in this series has been such a delight, and this one was no exception.
Set during a summer in Washington, D.C., this story delivers everything I love in a romance: hockey player charm, enemies-to-lovers tension, a slow-burn romance that keeps you turning the pages, and the sweetest “he falls first” energy. Add in a black cat × golden retriever dynamic, witty banter that doubles as flirting, a found family you’ll want to join, and even a touch of mystery, and you’ve got such an entertaining read!
The chemistry builds perfectly, the tension is delicious, and the characters completely won me over. If you’re looking for a romance filled with heart, humor, and patriotic summer vibes, definitely add this one to your TBR!

couldn’t put it down!
I loved this book! While it did have the tournament as part of the focus, I loved the second half of the story between Baptiste and Harper even more! I hope they show up in future books!

Review of advance copy received from Author
I received a voluntary early e-book. All thoughts are my own.
This has a little bit of everything-romance, hockey, mystery, and drama. The dynamic and chemistry between these two was so fun to explore. The communication between Harper and Baptiste felt real and honest.
I love how Harper finds her people and the interactions between all the side characters. I can’t wait to read all the other characters’ books.
The drama, suspense, and little bit of thriller storyline wasn’t for me. I’m not the biggest fan of those. However this was still well done. You might enjoy it more than I do.
This was a fun addition to the Stars, Stripes, & Hockey Nights series!
Recommended reading age (14 yrs+)
No spice (just kisses)
No explicit language use
PG violence/gore

This enemies to lovers’ story is so fun. Love their bickering, teasing, them challenging each other and also her nicknames for him. And also the fact that he falls for her first. Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights has Marion De Re adding her voice to this collaborative series. Hockey stars from all over are coming together to play in a hockey tournament taking place in DC. This series focuses on certain players and them finding romance while celebrating the USA’s birthday. What So Proudly We Hail is book 3 in the series. Marion has written two MCs who are complex, layered, and full of surprises.
Baptiste loves hockey and it has provided a very good life for him. Yet, he is so much more than that, which most don’t see. Sparks fly for him when he meets Harper. When they first meet, he can tell she is keeping her distance, but he is determined to break down some of her barriers. He is super sweet to her throughout this book, but he knows their time together is going to come to an end. Beyond the romance Baptiste allows us a different perspective within the series. The found family these hockey players have quickly formed is wonderful to read about over and over again.
Harper is an investigative reporter who is being punished for being good at her job. Sent to DC to cover the celebratory hockey games taking place. She does hard hitting journalism, not sports. So yeah, she isn’t excited about watching a bunch of men skate around an ice rink. In her mind they are all spoiled and full of themselves. When she meets Baptiste, this is her first thought, but an interview begins to change her mind. The more time they spend together, the more she realizes her loner life isn’t everything she has thought it was. I loved watching her open up and soften towards Baptiste. I loved her drive, but was so happy to see her let love in.
Marion does a fantastic job writing these two characters. One is immediately enchanted, while the other is annoyed beyond belief. I melted as Baptiste showed Harper a different side of him that he doesn’t share with many people. My heart swelled each time Harper noted how much fun she was having with him. I am all for a hard working, girl boss FMC; yet I believe in a balance between work and love. A wonderful story that brings more emotion into this series.
As always, review any author notes before reading.

Review of advance copy received from Author
This is part of the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights multi author series. While each book focuses on the celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States, each book can be read as a standalone.
Harper and Baptiste didn't have the best first interaction, but soon the feelings and sparks are flying.
Harper, an investigative reporter, has been assigned to report on the hockey tournament. Baptiste, one of the hockey players for the Stripes, doesn't like to talk about his childhood. While clashing at first, they form a friendship - that of course becomes more. However, both of their pasts catch up to them.
I really liked the relationship dynamic between Harper and Baptiste. While he is more open, he doesn't give second chances. She is more of a loner and closed off because, due to her job and past experiences, she tends to see the shadier side of things. But she does start to soften and realizes how great it is to have a friend group.
We do get a 3rd act breakup because of some of Harper's decisions. I thought that Baptiste was quick to get angry, but I'm not sure how I would feel if I was in that situation. But of course, we do get a HEA!
I also like how this book had a mystery and a suspense aspect. Since this is a multi-author series that focuses on the same event, we all know the outcome of the hockey tournament. I loved how this book had them meet at the tournament, but the story followed them home to New York after the 3 week event. I also loved how there was character crossover from the New York Raptors series.
This is a fun series to celebrates America's 250 years and I look forward to reading the rest of the books!
I received an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quotes:

"As if I'd ever let you fall."

I received an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quotes:
"...people are full of surprises."
"As if I'd ever let you fall."
"...nothing is more important than family."
"We do crazy things for the people we love..."

What So Proudly We Hail by Marion de Ré is a book in the ongoing Stars, Stripes & Hockey Nights Series, a multi-author interconnected standalone hockey romance series. Each book has the same setting, a hockey tournament celebrating the 250th anniversary of the USA, while in each book a different couple are the main characters. And in each book you read, characters from the earlier books make an appearance, which I think is a job well done.
In this book reporter Harper feels like she is being punished by her boss as she is sent to the capital of the USA to cover a hockey tournament of all things. When traveling to Washington D.C. things are not going her way, but someone else’s, namely hockey Star Baptiste Marchand. Without doing anything himself, he gets in her way and that makes for some really funny situations and conversations. I can never again see a Twix Bar, without thinking about this story (read the book and you know what I mean).
I had a great time reading this book from the very first page. As the story progresses and Baptiste and Harper meet more often, a kind of relationship starts between them and that was so lovely to read about. Hadley does not know anything about hockey at all and that too made for hilarious moments.
Both Baptiste and Harper are wonderful characters, they have great chemistry, and both had a voice in this book as we have a dual POV. This is not a typical hockey romance story as Marion de Ré put something extra in it: a kind of danger and mystery. This way the story was more interesting and intriguing. The writing style is flowing, fast paced and I had a hard time putting the book down. And like the earlier books that I have read in this series, in this book there are also pranks. I cannot wait to find out who is behind all this!
If you love hockey romances, with a wonderful cast of characters, with a grumpy sunshine trope, a great writing style, do read this book. I know you will love it.

Stars Stripes and Hockey nights 250th yr USA celebrations.
Poor Baptiste, she’s pegged him all wrong as Harper and all she did was have a bad day made worse and poor man she did curse when it was all in the hands of the universe. You can’t blame her, really you can’t . She just wants to get to her first class hotel with all the mod cons only to get there and the suites are all gone. ..
A normal will have to suffice even when someone did offer a sacrifice. She doesn’t half curse this celebrity ,it’s a liberty! Yup Baptiste Marchand has got right under her skin and it gets worse before it gets better..Let’s dive in.
Isn’t that always the case though when all you’re feeling is low and full of regret, huh? She’s a crime reporter on punishment duty so instead of reporting something juicy, she’s having to report on hockey games! Sport! The shame.
She’s digging up dirt but what’s this ? She ends up flirting with the obnoxious fellow ,maybe he’s not so noxious and here’s her turning mellow. Interviewing and chewing the fat,how about that?
Before they know it they’re getting along and I think her heart might even be singing a song..Well she goes undercover, ends up with her story . Meets his friends and goes to charity galas and other places . Then she’s seeing not so friendly faces and things are taking a down turn fast, damn and blast . Marchand comes to her aid and the fireworks they have going off left right and centre ,a powder keg. Is it being lain to rest as she does confess she is in need of help…Yelp! Some edge of your seat suspense in this as well as the game and getting to know each other and all.
Banter and tension ,did I mention the banter cos there’s lots and this Harper ties up Baptistery in knots. Great entertainment from Marion De Re had a ball with tension and banter to be had between a lass and a lad. In keeping with USA’ 250th birthday celebrations there’s no room for ruminations and a hockey game to be won as well as this hon.

There are more than fireworks in this fantastic book. The sparks between Baptiste and Harper are enough to ignite a bonfire. Some of the sparks come from the fire shooting out of Harper's eyes as she sees a celebrity (as she calls him) get more perks and better treatment, even when you are talking about candy bars. I will never see Salted Caramel Twix bars again without thinking about this couple and this book.
NHL defenseman Baptiste Marchard is in town for the highly anticipated Stars and Stripes hockey game. Although he is a celebrity because of his professional hockey career, there is a whole lot more to this man than this first appears, contrary to what Harper wants to believe.
Harper has been banished (as she thinks of it) to Washington, D.C. to cover the star studded event for her newspaper. She is an investigative journalist, not a sports reporter. She hates sports and knows nothing about them, and has no desire to learn. So, when she encounters Baptiste, all of her fiery indignation is thrown his way. But good old Baptiste soon has her spending time with not only him, but his friends. He slowly cracks that brick exterior she has built around her heart.
This one was more emotional than the other books so far in this series, as there are some pretty serious moments, and a little dangerous mystery as well. But I loved every word of it. Of course, the pranks continue amongst the hockey team. I cannot wait to find out who is responsible for all of these awesome pranks. So, though this one had a serious tone at times, it still has the author's signature wit that will leave you smiling and laughing as well. As such, this is much more than just a standard hockey romance, and is a star studded winner well deserving of much more than five stars.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

WHAT SO PROUDLY WE HAIL is another great addition to the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series. It is full of hockey, laughs, and a bit of suspense all wrapped up in a delightful romance with characters I entirely enjoyed.
What I loved about this story is the layers to the characters. Harper is an investigative journalist who loves digging into her stories and sometimes her determination to get to the truth gets her in trouble. She pretty much sticks to herself, except for her grandma, and is dedicated to her work. Baptiste loves playing hockey and is happy with the life he is living, but there is so much more to him. He has scars from his childhood and thinks he has put it in the past. I felt for Harper when she first meets Baptiste because nothing is going her way and the appearance of his privileged life really irks her. But as she spends more time with Baptiste she begins to see him for who he really is ... just a really good guy she wants to spend time with. I loved how they were able to find what they needed and balanced each other out.
hockey romcom | black cat vs. golden retriever | protective MMC | investigative journalist FMC | he falls first | found family | side of mystery
My favorite things:
Baptiste’s patience, thoughtfulness, and protectiveness
Harper’s determination and drive
Calls him Mr. Celebrity
Their chemistry & banter
The fellow Raptors and their bets
Harper’s grandma and others at old folks home
Found family for both
My favorite quotes:
“Who is this girl? And why do I suddenly want to know everything about her?"
“There’s something infuriating about the way he refuses to take the bait. Most people either snap back or laugh a little too hard. But this guy, he just waits. Like he know I’ll cave first.”
“I had no idea I could care this much. Be so completely, terrifyingly in love.”
Happy reading!

I love reading books from this author; she is definitely one of my go-to authors for a great story, closed door, with plenty of banter.
What So Proudly We Hail is part romance and part adventure story, so it ticks many of my boxes. Journalist Harper is sent to cover the Stars and Stripes hockey tournament in DC as a way of keeping her out of trouble, from digging too deeply into stories. She’s completely bored as she doesn’t really like hockey, and after a couple of run-ins with one of the players who keeps getting her upgrades, she’s not a huge fan of hockey players either.
However, she scores an interview with the aforementioned player, the New York Raptors star Baptiste Marchand, and they start to get to know each other a bit better. However, when they get back to New York after the tournament, the real drama begins, and just how far will Harper go and can Baptiste trust her?
I really loved this book. The author knows how to weave a good story with the romance aspect. Not that the romance isn’t good; it is REALLY good, and Harper and Baptiste are so much fun together. Whether it’s their banter over rental cars and hotel suites, or besting each other at carnival games, they work well together. Harper fits right in with the other hockey players and their WAGS, and she’s got herself a whole new family. Speaking of family, I loved Harper’s grandma as well; she was one feisty old lady and knew her own mind.
I also loved the mystery aspect to the book. It wasn’t anything elaborate or a big hidden mystery, no surprising twists, but it was good watching it all play out and interweave with the relationship developments.

Oh this turned out better than I had expected. I adore Marion De Re’s books and I was so excited to see some familiar faces again. What So Proudly We Hail is written by Marion De Re and it is the third book in the multi author series, Stars, Stripes and Hockey Nights series,
Harper was jaded and didn’t like celebrities. Baptiste was trying to enjoy life but also find his person. They were the perfect fit for each other. I love how Baptiste met Harper where she was at but also tried to push her out of her comfort zone. Harper was scared to let Baptiste in but when she did, she loved fiercely. She wanted him to be at peace and find his family.
Both of these characters had been hurt in the past, but they learned that some things were worth the risk. The story was so interesting and engaging. I was on the edge of my seat as Harper tried to uncover some of the mysteries that were before her. She definitely toed the line at times but she had a good heart. Baptiste was working so hard to woo Harper and it was definitely sweet to see.
The romance was cute! Baptiste definitely fell first but they both fell hard. I loved seeing the other hockey players again. I want to reread their books! (The One More Chapter series and the New York Raptors series are also worth the read). What So Proudly We Hail is a closed door romantic comedy. I would recommend it to those who like hints of mystery but mostly romance and fun.

I loved this story!
What So Proudly We Hail is book three in the Stars, Stripes and Hockey Nights multi-author series. I loved the tournament connection with all the other authors, the integration with the other NY Raptors stories from Marion, and the fun and captivating enemies-to-lovers storyline that is unique to this tale. I didn't expect the mystery and suspense, and that part of the story had me absolutely captivated.
Harper was quite the gal- snarky, tenacious and determined- just what one would expect from an investigative reporter. I loved that in order to stay out of trouble, she was assigned to cover the Stars and Stripes America 250 NHL tournament, and met Baptiste through a series of unfortunate events that worked out in his favor. I enjoyed how she and "Mr Celebrity" continued to clash until they realized they had an undeniable spark.
The real gem of the story is what happens after the tournament as Harper investigates some new leads, including Baptiste. The story continued to swell all the way to the exact ending I preferred. Marion also tackled a tough subject of an adult learning about their biological family, and having walked that road with someone intimate to me, I felt like those emotions she perfectly captured were a mirror of our experience. I truly do adore a romcom with a side of grit. It's my favorite!
I received a copy of this story as part of Marion's ARC team. All thoughts contained here are my own.

Harper, an investigative journalist, is stuck covering a hockey tournament in DC. She is in her boss's bad graces and Harper is not happy with the assignment. She gets to the car rental agency after her flight lands, only to discover they overbooked cars and it will be at least an hour until a car for her arrives. Then a man, Baptiste, comes in and is immediately given a car. She is really mad about it. Next, she stops at a gas station to get some snacks only to find the same man there, taking the last Twix candy bar. To top it off, when she gets to the hotel, she discovers that her suite is no longer available because the hockey league took all the suites for the players, so she gets a regular room. Harper is none too happy.
I loved both Harper and Baptiste. She was a bit of a rhymes-with-witch at the beginning, being quite mean to him when really none of the issues the first few days were his fault. She's a loner. Baptiste is not a ladies' man and has never felt worthy of someone staying around for him. As always, the secondary characters, the team mates and their wives and girl friends, add so much to this story. This book is about a hockey tournament, but the hockey is not as prevalent in this book as with some. The real action takes place after the hockey tournament ends. The book is emotional, funny and a bit suspenseful with two separate subplots. It kept me reading late into the night.

I absolutely loved Baptiste and Harper’s story! From their not-so-cute meet cute, to their happily ever after, this story had me eager to see what would happen next.
From the get go, Harper has had a lot going on. “This day has lasted a full year already, and I’m ready to ring in the next one.” I loved seeing her opinions about Baptiste shift as she got to know him better. Mr. Celebrity turned into just “Baptiste” over time, and it was a lot of fun to watch her fall for him.
Baptiste has navigated a lot in his life and I loved seeing him figure out what he wanted and how to get it. He was so gone for Harper from the beginning - “Who is this girl? And why do I suddenly want to know everything about her?” I enjoyed watching him wait for her to come around to the same conclusions.
The mystery and suspense brought something so unique to this story. It was approached in a way that kept it more humorous and light, while also understanding the gravity of the situation.
The seniors at Golden Age were hilarious with their poker games and wagers on the most ridiculous things. The same could be said about the Raptors players and their bets. Overall, it brought such a fun layer of found family and team bonding to the story.
This is the 3rd of 13 books in the Stars, Stripes & Hockey Nights multi-author series about 2 all-star hockey teams playing a tournament in Washington DC to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the USA.

Black cat investigative reporter meets golden retriever hockey player. Yep. It's that good.
Harper Donnelly is in trouble with her boss for disobeying orders. Her punishment is to leave New York to cover a dumb hockey tournament in Washington DC. She’s not even allowed to dig up any scandals in the capital of politics, money, and corruption.
The meet cute isn’t pretty. Nor is the second meeting. Nor the third. As gorgeous as he is, Mr. Celebrity is clearly just out for himself. (Spoiler: She is wrong.)
As a player for the New York Raptors, Baptiste Marchand is playing on the East team in the Stars and Stripes tournament. When the beautiful and cranky woman he’s been running into shows up at a press conference mocking her role as a sports reporter, Baptiste is intrigued. If only she would stop calling him Mr. Celebrity.
We don’t get a lot of hockey plays in this book, but there is a lot of hockey player energy. What Do Proudly We Hail has a lot happening, and I was there for all of it—romance (of course), hockey, danger, senior citizens, teasing and banter, friends group, an elevator kiss, and a family secret. What is the hockey equivalent of knocking it out of the park? Because that's what Marion did with this book.
This summer, celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday with the swooniest hockey all-stars as they take the ice in a festive exhibition tournament.
Thank you to the author for an advance copy. All opinions are my own.

Let me start by saying I really enjoyed this book. It kept me on my toes and kept me invested. It was a great addition to the series.
By the end of the book, I didn’t even realize I was reading the same book. The hockey tournament and DC were such a small part of the book I didn’t understand at first. But I realized I actually enjoyed that. It was bigger than hockey. Being 12 books in the series you can only write about the same thing so many times without it being repetitive. This was a nice break from it being the main focus but still revolved around it. The hockey tournament is where Baptiste and Harper met. A golden retriever hockey player and a black cat reporter who’s on a mini timeout. Their romance evolves to their hometown NYC where they face challenges, secrets and things to pull them apart.
It was all clean closed-door romance, with a bit of mystery and suspense and a happily ever after. Of course it was more enjoyable with the coloring book to go along with it.

What So Proudly We Hail by Marion De Ré
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was the perfect summer escape! Filled with Fourth of July charm, small-town celebrations, roller rink dates, ice cream cones, and plenty of heart, this story felt like summer wrapped up in a book.
Harper and Baptiste’s grumpy/sunshine dynamic had me smiling from start to finish. Their witty banter, fiery chemistry, and slow journey from enemies to something more made them impossible not to root for. I especially loved how the hockey romance was balanced with a touch of mystery, adding just the right amount of intrigue to the story.
The found family elements, lovable cast of characters, and hilarious elderly antics brought so much warmth and humor to every page. Beneath the laughs and swoony moments is a heartwarming story about hope, forgiveness, and finding the courage to trust again.
If you love hockey romances, found family, small-town charm, and all the summer vibes, this standalone romance deserves a spot on your TBR. ☀️🇺🇸🏒🍦❤️

What happens when a librarian who knows nothing about hockey meets a professional hockey player in a bookstore?
Hadley and Bryce's story was such a sweet, feel-good read! Bryce is peak golden retriever hero energy—kind, thoughtful, funny, and completely gone for Hadley from the start. Watching him pursue her while respecting her carefully organized life was absolutely swoon-worthy.
One of my favorite things about this story was how the relationship was built on honesty, trust, and genuine connection. When Bryce's secret identity finally comes to light, I loved that it didn't become a drawn-out source of drama. Instead, Hadley embraced who Bryce was and the life that came with him, which made their relationship feel even stronger.
✨ Bookstore meet-cute
✨ Librarian × hockey player
✨ He falls first
✨ Golden retriever hero
✨ Found family
✨ Closed-door romance
✨ All the butterflies
If you're looking for a sweet hockey romance with plenty of heart and a hero you'll be cheering for, this one is worth adding to your TBR.

Baptisté is not interested in being hurt again and Harper is moody and angry, she isn’t into sports and definitely not hockey but she was assigned this story and has to make it work. They start off with a mutual annoyance with one another. Then his friends and their wives and girlfriends decide Harper is someone they want to keep around. I love the poking and razzing the players do with eachother. I didn’t ever fully connect with either of the main characters, they kinda annoyed me lots of times. But I love the circle of friends and their growth that happened with both Harper and Baptiste throughout this book. By the end of the book both Harper and Baptiste had grown on me. Harper has a hilarious Grandma, Glenda. She’s snarky, spunky and kinda moody too.
I received an advance copy of e-book from the author; Thank you for allowing me to read this early. I’m happy to recommend this book to help romance fans get in the mood for America’s 250th Birthday! These opinions are 100% own and I review all the books I read.

What So Proudly We Hail is the third book in the Star, Stripes and Hockey Nights multi author series and it reads entirely fine as a standalone. This was such a fun, fast and easy read. I loved all the crossover characters from The Raptors series (not necessary to have read prior but it was nice knowing their backgrounds). This was a little different than her usual books as there was this added mystery and I thought it was so much fun! Although it had this serious tone it also had Marion's signature humor, sweetness and romance. I enjoyed the blend of it all.
I loved both Baptiste & Harper and how they overcame their past traumas and learnt to get along. I enjoyed how their relationship evolved and grew. The romance developed nicely a little fast for my personal taste, but it still really worked. It was sweet and swoony even through their ups and downs. I just love the entire cast of characters and thought it was such a fun story.
Overall, this was a super fun and easy romcom that had me swooning and kicking my feet. The chemistry, the characters and the story were great.

What So Proudly We Hail by Marion De Ré is an absolute delight from beginning to end. Blending heartfelt romance, laugh-out-loud banter, and just the right touch of mystery, this story kept me hooked from the very first chapter. The chemistry between Harper and Baptiste feels genuine and develops naturally, making every interaction enjoyable and emotionally rewarding.
Marion De Ré’s writing is warm, witty, and easy to get lost in. The dialogue sparkles, the pacing is excellent, and the characters are wonderfully relatable. I found myself smiling, laughing, and cheering them on throughout the entire book.
If you enjoy closed-door romances with lovable characters, heartfelt moments, plenty of humor, and a satisfying happily-ever-after, What So Proudly We Hail is a must-read. I highly recommend it to fans of sweet sports romances and anyone looking for a feel-good story that leaves you with a smile. I rate this book 5 Stars!!!!

What So Proudly We Hail by Marion de Re is one of those reads that keeps surprising you at every turn — and I mean that in the best possible way. I went in without reading the blurb, which meant every twist landed exactly as it was meant to. Harper is an investigative journalist assigned to cover a hockey tournament against her will, and Baptiste is the NHL defenseman who is equal parts infuriating and impossible to ignore. Their first meeting is immediately fun, and the banter between them never really lets up. But underneath the romcom surface is a story with real emotional weight — Baptiste carries something heavy from his past, and Harper's investigative instincts pull her straight into the middle of something deeply personal to him in ways neither of them saw coming. The found family thread, the illegal crimes subplot, the chaos of a crazy ex — this one had layers I wasn't expecting and loved discovering. What I appreciated most was that the story never lost its warmth even when things got complicated. A really fun, twisty, surprisingly tender read.

This was such a fun mix of hockey romance and mystery. I really liked that it wasn't just about the romance—the mystery gave the story an extra layer that kept me interested.
The chemistry between Harper and Baptiste was enjoyable, especially because they started off on opposite sides. I loved watching Harper slowly realize there was more to Baptiste than his confident hockey player image. Their banter was fun, and the slow-burn romance felt natural.
I enjoyed the found family aspect. The friendships and team dynamics made the story feel warm and added a lot of heart. There were also some emotional moments as the heroine dealt with her past, which balanced the lighter rom-com scenes well.
The ending had higher stakes than I expected, and I appreciated that the mystery actually mattered to the relationship instead of feeling like an afterthought.
Overall, this is an entertaining read with romance, humor, mystery, and a lovable cast of characters. If you enjoy hockey romances with strong banter, found family, and a little suspense, this one is definitely worth picking up.

This is the only book I've read from the Stars, Stripes, and Hockey Nights series. I enjoyed it a lot. I would probably read more of them, if I had the time. This is a fun way to celebrate America's 250th birthday this year.
If I'm being honest, I didn't really like Harper in the first chapter or two of this book. She came across arrogant, jealous, mean...but she grew on me as the story went along. She's an investigative journalist, who has been forced to cover a sports competition that she doesn't know anything about. And doesn't want to learn anything about, but as she gets to know Baptiste, her outlook changes a little at a time.
Baptiste is a hockey player. He's part of a big game for America's 250th anniversary. I thought he seemed like a good guy, even though to Harper, it seemed like he was getting special treatment. I love that he loves the USA, even though he was born and raised in France. I love that he wants to look out for Harper when things seem like they're getting dangerous for her.
This book has a bit of everything. It's got romance, comedy, a bit of a mystery, danger. It's just a great read!
