Saffron Bryant is an Australian author with a passion for fantasy and science fiction. She began writing at a very early age and hasn’t stopped since.
She has a degree in Biomedical Science (with honours) and recently completed a PhD in chemistry at the University of Sydney.
Unfortunately her cupboard didn’t open onto Narnia, she didn’t get a letter from Hogwarts, and a strange man in a blue box hasn’t shown up… (here’s hoping for an old Wizard on my 50th!!)
So she spends her time writing stories and releasing them to the world.
~Happy Reading!~
Saffron is best known for her science-fiction action adventure The Nova Chronicles, which she describes as "Tomb Raider in Space".
George Lucas? Is that you? I mean come on... Pod Racing? Not ok. Also not needed for the story at all.
The author has no concept of physics, weightlessness, gravity, or even keeping a consistent description of a ship's controls. First the throttle is in the steering column, which begs the question how does one tilt the ship's nose up and down. Then the throttle is separate, with a control stick, which is how it would be on an aircraft. Then the steering is a wheel and the throttle is back on the column.
Other than the giant ball of HUH?! that is the racing scene, the book was alright. Not spectacular, but I'm interested to see where it's going.
The Nova stories are quick reads with quite a bit of action. This one was another example as the main character is hired to deal with creepy suck your blood type criminals. Add to that an exciting space race and there was enough action to keep the story moving along quickly. For some reason though, the stories always feel a little rushed and characters a bit underdeveloped for me to completely lose myself in the book. I have enjoyed each story but so far I don't feel overly invested. I will likely read the next in line as I still find a story with a lot of fun action to be enjoyable.
I won't be reading anymore of this series. There is just something about it that doesn't read right. Kimi t like the author leaves something out but includes non-important items which are described in to much detail. I don't recommend this book or the series.
Summary: Hectic. Space opera SF - well sort of, except its about vampires in all but name. Lots of action. The premise is very poor for this book, otherwise same ingredients as the first 2 books in the series
Plotline: Not well thought through and a bit silly at times, but plenty of action
