Retribution by Kathryn Le Veque is the newest in her Guard of Six series featuring the group of men who are the king’s personal guards. Edward has returned from his crusade and there are questions in the air as the Guard of Six was formed by his father, Henry. The leader of the group is Aidric as he has the most seniority. A former Executioner Knight known has Gerard has joined the group, making it seven. The Bishop of Cambridge has built his own kingdom and he is not happy about Edward’s return. In fact, he comes up with a plan to murder him. It involves his Pearl, one of seven beautiful courtesans brought together by Henry and dispersed to wealthy men. Despite the fact he is elderly and a priest, he has ownership of one of these women. Thankfully she has never had to share a bed with him but has been forced into some other pretty demeaning acts. She is his plan to murder Edward.

Aidric is approaching his middle years and has no women in his life. He as played false as a young man and he took the lesson he learned to heart. Cleodora (Cleo) was basically sold to the bishop by her father to support the drug habit he picked up in the Levant. She is a good person and hates her life, but sees no way out. Court intrigues are not for her but she is attracted to Aidric the moment she meets him, and he to her. Schemes and plans abound, on both sides. The story is complicated, but in the end it is a romance. A genre of which Kathryn Le Veque is a master. As this story unfolds the reader sees all her mastery put to good use. Different kind of storyline but the same in so many ways. Terrific book.

A Terrific Heartwarming Love Story
This maybe my favorite Guard of Six story so far.
Many emotional moments that kept me glued to the pages in this story of discovering true love for these intriguing characters.
Cleodora, one of the kings 7 jewels has a horrible life and when she and Aidric meet their lives with change for the better but, their road to happiness was filled with betrayals, assignation plots, the kings' protectors, seduction, building desire that had my pages smoking when they finally came together and filled their passionate desires.
The final scenes were completely breath taking which led to a very delightful, beautiful ending which grabbed at my heart.
An awesome story I highly enjoyed.

I love books by this author and this one is another great read. Cleodora is one of the seven jewels of London owned by the Archbishop of Cambridge a ambitious greedy man who resents the arrival of Edward the new king home to his Kingdom and is scheming of ways to remove him. Aidric is one of kings special guards who is tasked along with the rest of the guards to prevent this. This means Aidric has to meet Cleodora and when he does he finds himself falling in love and struggling with what she has been asked to do.
As usual lots of fighting and lots of romance with great characters

The storyline is well throughout and presented in a way that made it a joy to read. I loved both Aidric and Cleo and was glad to see their happy ending but before that happened there was a lot of turmoil and intrigue working in the background. The plot to kill the king plays a big part in this story. It was good to see characters from previous stories make appearances throughout. There were several surprises that I had not anticipated that added greatly to the story. It’s a great story, I loved it and would highly recommend it.

Another marvellous medieval romance from my favourite author. We are with the King's guards as they get used to the changes in their lives since Edward has inherited from Henry. Will he change them for his own pick of Knights ?
Our heroine is one of "The Jewels of London" the most beautiful ladies who have been specially trained.
Intrigue,danger, and a terrible father are at the heart of this story.
I will always read this authors work. I never even bother reading the blurb because I know I will thoroughly enjoy it. They are very hard to put down once you start.
I loved it.
