Summary: This was such a cute read into the start of Rosie's newest series Magical Mysteries. Matilda 'Tildy' Sweets is a wildlife photographer who comes back to her New Zealand hometown, Plimmer Valley, after an altercation with a previous boss leaves her future in photography in the unknown. As if having to navigate her rocky relationship with her sisters wasn't tough enough, things take a turn when a death occurs and all fingers point to Tildy as the prime suspect. Throw in a gorgeous man who makes her insides tickle and a town where everyone has something to hide, Tildy Sweets realizes that solving the murder may have put her in over her head.
Pros: I immediately loved the parts when Tildy was in her photographer mode and it was detailed on what exactly she was snapping pictures of as it helped build us readers a picture of what the snapshot looked like. It was more family focus with hints of mystery and slight romance. When it came to the mystery, it gave a mix of the pros and cons of how I felt - merging the coming together with the family and diving into the mystery on whodunit.
Cons: Diving straight in, I would have loved to see a glossary at the beginning to help with specific words that appear right off the bat. Google had to become my friend and it was a tad exhausting having to look up everything. More than half the book was focused on the family aspect of coming back together with her sisters and Ingrid, which is a good thing don't get me wrong. It just wasn't what the book was about when looking into it. The mystery started past the halfway point.
Overall: It was a cute book and it did give me new insight about the indigenous Polynesian people living within a part of New Zealand. Would recommend to a few people. Just wasn't my cup of tea after reading and reviewing this.

This was actually a really cute read. Sweet, clean and quick. The synopsis had me at “Magical sweet shop” and I knew I had to read it. It has some of the quirkiest characters, a fruit bat familiar anyone, a new to me cozy setting in New Zealand and a well plotted out mystery. I will definitely read more in this series as they are published.
I really wanted to like this book more than I did. Who doesn't love witches and New Zealand? It was a cute paranormal cozy, I just never connected with the main character and was not really invested in the outcome of the murder. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC
